LOVE THIS PLACE been to their North Raleigh and Hillsborough location many time. This review is solely for their Hillsborough location. Come here if you want to taste real GOOD coffee and not the brand that starts with "S". The price are really reasonable and the service is fantastic. Their bean comes from Counter Culture, which is based right in the heart of Durham. They also sell CC beans which are freshly roasted within days. My to go drink is their latte and cold brew coffee. Its strong with complex flavor and none of the weak watered down coffee other places serve. The atmosphere is very relaxing, often see people studying, reading or simply catching up. Parking can be tricky especially on the week days. PRO TIP: park at the NC State lot behind SUBWAY for free anytime after 5PM Monday to Friday and free on the weekend! tLDR; great coffee, good vibes, locally roasted coffee. read more

Definitely my favorite coffee place so far! I got an almond latte with oat milk and it was delicious. Not too sweet, just the right amount of flavor. I also got a chocolate chip cookie on the side which they warmed up for me, which I wasn't expecting! The cookie was also very big. The perfect pairing to my latte on this rainy day. I've been here before and have really enjoyed my food, however this time I had a bad experience. I ordered something from the menu, and it came out looking extremely different. I was a little hesitant to eat it, so I kindly asked the waitress if it was what I ordered. She asked the chef and since we were sitting by the kitchen, we could hear the whole conversation. The chef was being extremely rude, yelling, and giving us rude faces through the glass where we could clearly see her. I decided to try it anyways and it was definitely not what I ordered. I couldn't find someone to help me so I ended up wasting a lot of money on something that was absolutely not what I ordered. I wouldn't be that upset but the chef would not stop looking at me and my friends giving us the dirtiest looks. read more

When i was at school at NC State this was always my go-to coffee place. The staff are always super friendly and the coffee is usually very concentrated and bold which is my favorite. They always have drip coffees and teas of course. I usually always get their iced vanilla latte. It only comes in one size. Their presentation for dining in is really nice. You can seen into the kitchen as well so that's a neat aspect to the establishment. Their biscuits and jam are amazing! They're super sweet so they complement a strong coffee perfectly. The chairs can be a little uncomfortable but I've definitely camped out for a couple hours and been fine. Sitting outside when it's cold isn't a good idea. I don't think they have outdoor heaters but since they're as popular as they are, i hope they do it soon!! read more

Some of the other pastries that I want to try always seem to be sold out, so I would suggest ordering early. I'm a big fan of Jubala, I tend to go to their other location during the school year and head back on over to Hillsborough Street in the Summer when the students are gone. The service and quality is always consistent, my favorite drink is their almond lattes. So freaking tasty! What I really love though is those delicious sweet biscuits. Sooo good! My favorite is getting a biscuit with jam and bacon on the side. I can eat half with the bacon and half with the jam, salty and sweet! The egg sandwiches are delicious as well, just be aware they get messy since the yoke is usually runny. They taste delicious, just be sure to grab quite a few napkins. They have a large patio so when the weather is nice they have a ton of seating, inside it's a bit smaller so sometimes the seats come at a premium. Just a note don't go off of the seasonal drinks and options on the website since it seems like they don't update that often. read more

stopped in for a to-go breakfast because it was next to my hotel (Aloft). 5/5 staff: super friendly, efficient. 5/5 coffee: I can't tell you how happy I was to have their light roast drip coffee after trying the standard hotel coffee from desperation. Delicious. 4.8/5 Ham-Pimento-egg-biscuit: I branched out from my usual breakfast sandwich so that I could get something a bit local-different here. The Biscuit is crazy-good. Just a bit of crunch on the outside and then miles of pillowy crumb. The egg and pimento were both good. The ham was thin (fine, easier to bite off) but crispy (ok, texture, I guess). A couple of the bites were a bit too salty, but this was overall a solid sandwich. I was able to eat it by hand (they gave me a fork and knife - and with good reason), but I would not try to eat this while driving because of the dripping yolk and soft biscuit. 4.8/5 vibe: Menu design was good (simple structure to scan, enough good options). Inside seating had good bar seat and table options. I was able to grab a bar seat at 9:15 AM on a Tuesday, but just barely. It's not their fault that they're so popular(!), but it would have been a bummer to stand and wait for my sandwich. Might be a risk worth taking tomorrow. read more

With the variety of coffee shops on Hillsborough I'd say Jubala makes its niche as more of a cafe than a coffee shop. The place is always full and thus very cramped. It's very nice/modern, but I would not come here to lounge/study: 1/5 on the 'coziness' scale. They serve Counter Culture coffee here, which means that a pour-over here is going to be very good (and it was). For a novice like me, there's not much else to say about the coffee besides that it is priced comparably. The food here is a mixed bag. The sandwiches are reasonably priced (on Hillsborough too!), but not spectacular. I really liked my Turkey Avocado, but I had a bite of the Double Bruschetta and it wasn't great. Beware, on their online menu it mentions a "Grown Up Grilled Cheese" but that is only for their North Raleigh location. The sandwiches also come with a side of chips or arugula/balsamic salad. I hate the arugula/balsamic salad trend, and the chips are basically just bagged Lay's, though a lot of them. The biscuits make coming back here for coffee and a bite to eat worthwhile though. The biscuits are very good, better than you would expect for a cafe/coffee shop. Oh and they have Apple Butter too (!!!!!!). read more

The Deets: After passing by this location of Jubala Village Coffee multiple times, I got the opportunity not once but twice this past weekend to enjoy a breakfast break there. It's a simple but nice space (a bit on the hipster-esque) at the base of the Aloft hotel on Hillsborough St. They have a good amount of seating both inside and outside, and tried them both on my visits. A friend of mine told me they had great breakfast sandwiches/biscuits so I had that on my mind with a good latte when going there. I ordered the sausage/egg/cheese biscuit with a latte both my trips there and enjoyed them, great stuff. The biscuits have a bit of sweetness to them but definitely not enough to overwhelm the great taste of the biscuit itself. My ingredients inside my tasty biscuit were equally great. My latte was spot on. Chris M. got a small/personal pot of pour over coffee, La Golondrina Coffee by Counter Culture Coffee, and I sampled that...excellent as well. If I lived nearer to this place I'd be coming by as a frequent fan. Only thing I see that could get them closer to five stars with me is I was missing a bit of positive projection at the register and service with a smile...a smile during the conversation works wonders. I had heard really good things about Jubala and had even met one of the owners. Great guy and such a simplistic, chill vibe. Parking is my only complaint. They have a great selection of coffees and foods giving you a diversity of flavors and options. I had the Grownup Grilled Cheese. This was honestly one of the best grilled cheese I have ever had and I have made a ton of grilled cheese. The blends of cheese were spot on and the apple butter highlighted the saltiness. Salad of mixed greens was simple and fresh. I love trying new coffee concoctions so I picked the Coffee Lemonade. Before you wince, it was actually very refreshing. They make it with cold brew, freshly squeezed lemon juice, a lemon syrup and topped with tonic. The flavors were surprising but actually paired really well together. I had gone to the other Jubala location and had a great experience so tried this location since it's closer to me. As per my drinks, they were delicious, had the Chai latte which I would recommend and the loose tea is also great. The only complaints are parking and this place is Crowded (with a Capital C). I have been to this location twice, first time it was not that bad as I was still able to find a table and get work done however it was pretty full. Second visit, it was extremely crowded and no tables were available so I took bar seating and eventually that got full too. I ended up leaving an hour later since it was hard to get work done with the noise level and cramped space. Since it's winter time, didn't opt for the outdoor seating but in the summer time that would be a great option as its covered space. Parking can be a issue, there are some retail spaces available on the first floor of the parking lot that is shared with Aloft which is limited to two hours. During peak hours, I imagine it fills really fast. It's located behind the coffee shop with a few street parking spots available on that street. Being across from NC State this place is bound to be packed but the drinks are delicious so would still recommend the place. Also, they have ample outlets available for charging, will frequent this place more in the summer time when the college crowd simmers down. read more

It's a pretty cool place with shiny happy people who work there but I can't say the same about the coffee. The bulk of the problem is the temperature. It's just not hot enough. I had two sips before it became undrinkable in it's mildly lukewarm state. Another coffee issue I have is how sweet the lattes are. I love the taste of vanilla but it can be done without running it over with the taste of sugar. I have also tried the turkey (and avocado) sandwich which apparently does not come with avocado as the menu board states. Granted, it was still good but it was basically grilled cheese with some turkey. I did like the bit of kick they added with pepper though. It's not a terribly comfortable or cozy place with hard wood benches but it's in a convenient spot and they won't make you feel out of place. read more

I'm new to the area and I enjoy trying new coffee shops! I love coffee (check my previous reviews lol) I went in today for my usual Iced mocha. I arrived, was not greeted, walked to the counter, still not greeted, finally made eye contact and was asked: "how can I help you". I ordered and waited for my drink. What came out was NOT an iced mocha. It was very light and the taste was horrible. I couldn't even drink it. It tasted like staright milk. I took the drink back and told them I was missing the mocha. The barista and cashier looked confused and said: "we use dark chocolate so it may not taste as sweet". If it were dark chocolate I think it would've shown in the color of the drink. It had no mocha flavor at all. They made me another drink, vanilla latte. Again, it tastes like no coffee present. I left with a bad taste in my mouth (literally). The customer service could use some work as well as the espresso! read more

I've been stopping by Jubala on Hillsborough a couple times a week since June, due to a job nearby. Here's the good, the bad, and the ugly of my visits: The espresso drinks are really smooth. However they are ALWAYS served lukewarm. It is so consistent that this lower temp must be their procedure as my drinks have been made by a multitude of different baristas. The cute little crema & milk foam heart on every drink make me happy. But you know what would make me happier? Hot drinks. The breakfast biscuits are yummy. The strawberry jam seems home made or small batch vendor. Add bacon and you are good till dinner. Those biscuits are huge! However, only once that I've ever ordered a biscuit with jam to go, have I received a plastic knife in my bag. While I dont mind licking jam off my finger, there's probably a few odd looks coming my way. I tried the biscuit with sausage once. Not something I would order again. It wasnt bad or good. Just meh. And I love sausage, so that was unexpected. Sausage is usually so savory delicious greasy or dry sage-y yucky depending on the brand. Not like plain boring mediocre sausage. Weird when all their other ingredients seem of better quality. Also my sausage had cheese on it. Not that it comes that way. More like cheese stuck on the grill is now on my order. The BLT is amazing, with extra Duke's Mayonaisse the only way to order it. Freshly sliced tomatoes and hydroponic bibb lettuce on grilled sourdough. Served with chips and/or arugula side salad with balsamic reduction. Highly recommend. They DONT serve dark roast anything. DONT ask them or you will be told, as I was. I love their Stay & Take registers concept. However they rarely use them properly so I guess this is just a gimmic or idea they had at first that fell away. If I'm in line for a to go drink, I dont want to stand behind people taking forever to make hipster chat about their coffee choices on their day off, just lounging around Hillsborough St. with their laptops. And the baristas here are never in a hurry. Never. Chat with each other. Walk around with someone's drink. Chat with each other. Answer a customers question about where to put their dirty dishes. Chat with each other. Realize there's a line forming. Walk slowly. Chat with each other. Start a drink order. Kind of makes you wonder why they designed their concept that way. Do you remember the espresso cafe on Friends? The one where they never really seemed to be working too hard? Gunther just leered at Jennifer Aniston the whole 10 seasons? One of the owners reminds me of Gunther. If I was lucky enough to own this place, I wouldnt use it as my own private cafe to sit & sip. I would run around making sure service was smooth & efficient. It's convenient for me while I work nearby for a couple more months. But after that, I won't have a desire to come here. read more

So I'm not huge on iced coffee or lattes because 1) I just think the hot drink is way more rich and 2) I despise watered down drinks and the ice can take away from the taste. BUT Jubala made the cut!!! Seriously the best iced coffee I've had in the East coast so far (I might be biased since I haven't been to EACH and EVERY coffee shop but point is it was delicious). I got the iced vanilla latte and asked for it lightly iced and it was so refreshing. I really wanted to take home the glass cup they served it in but that would be stealing this place opened up after I graduated but seriously I love it. The Hillsborough location is also a particularly convenient walk from the Cameron Village shopping center after a Flywheel class. Jubala is the neatest place. The people of Jubala really thought out how they would make their brand unique and unlike any other coffee shop. Besides their brand, their biscuits could be top-rated in Raleigh. They are sweet, warm, and absolutely delicious. I ordered the OG bacon, egg and cheese biscuit. I promise I'll be back for more. Besides the bomb coffee and food, the employees are kind and helpful. There was a lady working who didn't allow any dirty plates to sit at a table for too long and checked on us several times. One of my favorite parts about the coffee shop is that you are the closest sitting restaurant to the famous NC State bell tower. Jubala is drawing in future students and their parents as well as locals who appreciate good coffee and even better food. After all of the positive reviews of Jubala, I do have to say that they're WiFi is very poor. We came here for breakfast. The service was quick, friendly and had a place to sit outside so dogs are welcome. It had a limited menu, if one is trying to stay away from red meat. We ordered the egg cheese biscuit and Bruchetta sandwich with Turkey. The biscuit was different from the typical ones because it had a sweet flavor to it. We liked it and did not feel too heavy. The sandwich was good with a the bread well toasted, whole grain and filling. The sides were limited and could be a few more than kettle chips and arugula salad. They were very accommodating, served us the sandwich from the lunch menu 30 mins prior to lunch hour. Overall a good experience and will be coming back again. read more

Jubala Village is thoughtfully designed and makes the most of a small space while keeping an open concept. I had the honey latte and he had the cappuccino. Drinks were perfectly made. The latte was sweet but not overwhelmingly so. We also ordered a biscuit and oatmeal. Food was overpriced for what it was but it was good.
