Enjoyed brunch at Juicy Brew today - ulu cinnamon roll and the flatbread (which had all types of tasty toppings and salad on top). Everything was delicious - flavors you can't get anywhere else on the island - lots of vegan options. I bought some green curry and hummus to go. I recommend getting here right when they open on the weekend if you want to dine-in. I can't wait to go back and try more! Been here a few times and I think my conclusion is that I wouldn't go out of my way to come here unless I'm nearby and in a pinch. The sisters who own this business proudly proclaim they're self-trained chefs. I'm sorry to say that it's very obvious in the food: plating, design, and taste all make me feel like I'm eating something someone made at home to bring to a potluck. It's not bad per se, but it's not very good. I can cook better food myself at home, with better ingredients. Pros: -Some emphasis on local farms, organic produce, and vegan foods in a city with very few vegan or even vegetarian options. I appreciate what they're doing. (However, they are not completely local, organic, vegan or even vegetarian, which is confusing. I also noticed that they use a lot of processed ingredients like bouillon cubes in their soups and things like Earth Balance in their baked goods. I personally don't believe these items are healthy and do not use them in my home cooking.) -2/3 times I've been here, the cashier/server was very sweet and friendly -I bought an egg frittata to go that was very good. The dill and feta in it complimented each other well, and the frittata wasn't dry or overcooked, yay. Cons: -Other than the frittata, nothing I tried was worth it. I think I have high standards because of NYC where the best of the best is everywhere and very easily accessible, so I'm sorry if this sounds very harsh.. just giving my honest opinion. I would say in Hawaii this type of food stands out because it's different from mostly everything else but I would never patronize a "healthy" cafe in NY or LA that used things like Earth Balance and bouillon cubes and with so much emphasis on processed ingredients like tofu. -The food also tastes... interesting. Again, I would describe it as potluck food. The combinations are strange.. for example, I really don't see how pepitas compliment loco moco. Things are often oversalted. I most recently tried a dish with mushroom bacon bits and the mushroom bits were burnt to a crisp and oversalted + the food that it topped was also oversalted.. blah. I got it to go and promptly threw it in the trash after a few bites. I also got some of their luau to go from Whole Foods on a separate occasion.. omg.. it was sour in a bad way (who puts vinegar in luau?) and SO SALTY.. and with a strange smokey flavor. I would struggle to call that luau. It was absolutely inedible and also went in the trash. -Coffee was probably the worst coffee I've ever had -Front door is very heavy + AC is very weak -One of the stools by the door was extremely rickety and made me feel like it was going to break any moment -They advertise not using plastic straws but every other to go utensil is made of plastic. Meh. -Last time I was here the cashier was very unfriendly and rude Would give 3 stars because of the effort and the 2/3 times I received great service, but taste is important and I can't say I was impressed or even satisfied, so 2 stars. I much prefer Vegan Hills because they are consistently good, 100% vegan and the food quality is much more refined. read more

I can't believe it's taken me so long to write a review. I frequent here all the time. The food is delicious but what I also love is that this place has heart and conscience. I love that the chefs utilize local products and support Oahu's farms. I love that they make healthy dishes that nourish their community. I love that they and their staff are just good people. But let's talk about the food... I really love the variety and that I never know what I'm going to find in their deli case but that I know I'll always find something healthy and delicious. My favorites are 'ulu chowder, luau stew and curry, vegan burritos, soba bentos and their immunity broth (I don't really want to tell anyone about the immunity broth because it is SO GOOD and I don't want to share). I also love their 'ulu cinnamon rolls, various mochi and sweet treats. They also do brunch on the weekends which one day I will definitely check out and always drool over when I see their menus pop up on social media. Where has this place been all my life?! It's nutritionist recommended and taste bud approved. My favorites are the black bean soup and beet hummus, mainly because I was too full after eating ALL the hummus and not sharing one bite with anyone to try anything else. Omg food was AMAZING!!! We decided to have an impromptu Mother's Day lunch at Juicy Brew and oh what a treat!! The restaurant accommodated us immediately and and the service was excellent. We had our 1.5 and 3 year old boys with us who LOVED the food. My husband is a big meat eater but was blown away by how delicious the meal was. We all left more than satisfied - all of the beautiful dishes were freshly made from locally sourced vegetables and ingredients and the dishes were all so tasty. I've eaten at a lot of vegetarian and vegan places but this one is by far my favorite. Oftentimes the flavors, textures, etc can be redundant at vegan restaurants but that was definitely not the case with our lunch. Thank you Kiki for an awesome meal!!! A little hefty for a small burrito but for quality it is one of the best vegan items on the menu. They have a brunch menu which switches around daily. As for now, the price is a bit high for something small. Quality better than quantity read more

Their food is 5 stars and the service has always been great despite limited seating. I wish they would open up a larger restaurant that was open throughout the week. Hence the four stars. The grab and go case is winnahs!! Plenty of options, some vegan, some vegetarian and small kine meat selections too. Today's lunch included tofu poke, ulu curry, vegetarian chili and ulu hummus. We were doing family style so various things were sampled. The ulu hummus was great, nicely seasoned and lotsa garlic. The chili was too sweet for my liking; somewhat similar to a barbecue sauce being made and then ingredients added in. The curry and poke were solid. The curry had the usual warmth radiating from the seasonings and the added cauliflower was delicious. Poke had tofu, sea asparagus and I think daikon with onions. Nicely done JB!! In future days I'll 86 the chili and order double curry. Also, I'm not sure, but I think the ulu in the curry and chili could have cooked longer as they were harder than I'm used to texture-wise. But, food that has nutritional value that's decently priced is always welcome. There were even leftovers for today's brekky. Oh my days!! I'm gluten free and love veggie-heavy foods, while my boyfriend definitely isn't, so the fact that this place was amazing for both of us really says something! We had their pumpkin tacos and the chickpea pasta bake, and they were both so satisfying in that sorta stick to your ribs way while also being friendly to my annoying stomach and so (!!!) delicious. It's an order at the counter place, but the girl at the counter was very nice, and we got our food and coffee really quickly. My only criticism is that the tortillas, while super yummy, were lacking in structural integrity and the tacos did kind of fall apart in my hands which like isn't a huge deal but ain't too cute.
