Juicy Brew is a hidden gem, vegan/plant based coffee shop and brunch restaurant. There is nothing quite like juicy brew, it is 100% plant-based and offers many gluten-free options. There is easily something for everyone. Before coming to Honolulu, I had looked for any vegan/gluten-free restaurants and this one stood out, not only because of the many glowing reviews, but also because of their unique take on common and or local foods. Needless to say, I was extremely excited and had high expectations. I went in one morning around 9:30am, hoping to get something for breakfast. They had a myriad of burritos and sandwiches (vegan, but not gluten-free), as well as other dishes including Asian noodles, bento boxes, faux Mac and cheese, and other meals. After looking for a minute, I decided on a tofu musubi (vegan, no added gluten) and a mint chocolate cookie (vegan, no added gluten). Disclaimer, I've never had real musubi before so I can't accurately compare it, but it was in my opinion delicious! The flavors were all evident but blended seamlessly. The cookie was amazing as well, it blew my mind that it was vegan AND gluten-free. Un-freakin-believable. Naturally, I made time to come again during my stay. The second time, I tried a local kalo black sesame mochi and to no surprise, it was out of this world. Last, I came by and actually got a cup of coffee. I ordered an 8oz almond milk cappuccino which cost $3.75 (very cheap compared to other coffee shops nearby). The foam wasn't as tight as I normally like and the espresso tasted bitter. The staff was friendly and I'm sure would have been very informative had I needed to know anything, however like I said, I researched this place extensively before coming. This review is based solely on service. I walked into Juicy Brew as a friend had told me it was very good. I wanted to order a coffee to go. The bell rang as I walked in to notify staff in the back a customer was there. I waited several minutes and no one came to the front. After several minutes a staff member came from the back walked towards with me never asking if I had been helped and started arranging muffins and stocking things. After a few minutes of me standing there patiently to order, a couple walked in after me and immediately were greeted by the staff member. She walked behind the counter to assist them. I decided to leave never receiving a greeting or anyone taking my order. I left quite confused as to what had just happened. Not sure if I'll try them out again. There's a ton of other great coffee spots in the Kaimuki area that don't make you feel invisible. read more

Came here on a weekend and got the Carrot Cake waffle. Simply divine! I've never heard of a carrot cake waffle before. I had to get it. I love Juicy Brew!! The vegan brunch on the weekends is a Kaimuki staple! Every employee is extra friendly & you can tell they're really passionate about vegan food. I absolutely LOVE the grad & go options as it's incredibly difficult to find a quick on the go vegan meal in Honolulu. If you're a student, or just have a busy work schedule, juicy brew is there for you when you want a quick meal. The only complaint I have is because they don't open until 10 AM. I live right down the block & often crave juicy brew in the mornings on my way to UH, however, I suppose it makes sense considering The Curb is a block away. But I would prefer to give my coffee & muffin money to a vegan restaurant! Some of my favorite items on their menu include the vegan breakfast burrito with salsa, their vegan pad thai noodles, and their brunch available pancakes. Ate here for a big healthy breakfast after my morning workout and before a Koko head hike. Acai bowl wasn't going to cut it, I wanted heaping portions and savory taste. I love supporting local chefs and a strong business with women who are inspiring, upbeat and so helpful! There are definitely some faves and some stuff that is a little too out there for me. I love the vegan breakfast sandwiches, the flavor and texture is pretty good and you don't miss the meat or egg. All of their desserts are amazing especially their ulu cinnamon rolls, golden milk tapioca and every cookie ever. (I just had a mint chocolate chip and it was transcendent)! If you're into mochi those are always great too. Their muffins are a bit hit or miss for me texturally speaking, but flavor always spot on. I love their pastas, salads, oatmeal, and burritos too. If it were a little more in my everyday price range I would be here every week. But this tells me 3 things. They care about what they are feeding us, this makes it a celebration when I do make it in, and they have inspired me to be better to myself, to try harder to do what I can in my kitchen. read more

Had been meaning to stop by here whenever I walk by and finally did today after working out this morning. Gotta grab what's in the prepared section and they will heat up for you. Grab your own utensils and napkins and bring to the table. they will bring you water and your food once it's heated up. We got a breakfast burrito, a sandwich and an iced coffee $21 before tip. It's extra for milk, so just remember to ask for it when your order but they were kind enough to provide some for me gratis even though I asked later. I really do support places that use local ingredients. It was empty and there were plenty of seats at 10am on a weekday. I am not a vegetarian or vegan; I like to eat healthy. But I think maybe I should stop going to vegan restaurants. I tend to find the food not unctuous enough and don't enjoy the massive amounts of beans later on in the day. My burrito had kale, corn and beans - mostly beans. Wish it had more kale and corn. The "sausage" melt sandwich was a little sauce heavy and salty. The bread was nice. My iced americano was delicious especially with the oatmeal (?) milk they provided. I will bring visitors here if they are vegan. Glad to have options. read more

I love this place, the food is always flavorful, like really flavorful, plenty umami, before COVID you could eat inside and basically see into the back in the kitchen, which always looked clean. The lattes and baked goods are extra bomb on a rainy day. I like to eat lunch here and hike afterwards, because this food will give you energy rather than slow you down. My husband and I are always looking for healthy options to eat when out and about. Juicy Brew is a wonderful discovery! It is located right past the Ace Hardware heading into Kaimuki. RJ greeted us with a nice welcome, explained the food choices and told us about their support for the local produce. The vegetarian choices are varied and so good! But you do not need to be vegan to enjoy these great dishes. We had the jackfruit 'tuna' with cheese and the kalo butternut stew. Both were so delicious!! I would recommend this place for a quick stop to eat, but also to pick up healthy and delicious meals. So nice to find this little wonderful place. We will return and pass the word! read more

We went earlier in the year and ordered the burrito and loco moco vegetarian style plates. The quality was high, quantity good, and taste was very delicious. You can tell the Japanese-style where there was detail and variety with the ingredients. Not slapped together like other vegetarian restaurants with little taste. The cashier was very nice and gave us recommendations. We got the food in 10 minutes or so. There a couple sidewalk tables, which we used. If your are looking for a quick cup of coffee this is defiantly not the place ...but that's what I loved about it! Kaimuki is filled with coffee shops but this has got to be one of the best ones. It's a very small space but there are tables and high tops so plenty of room. The line was a little irritating at first but I think the friendly service made up for it. The drinks are about $5-$6 and come in mason jars. I loved that they don't waste plastic. The menu is filled with vegan, healthy options. The drinks are different than a normal coffee shop which makes the price worth it. It's nice to know your insta-worthy latte is actually filled with healthy ingredients ! Ha! My only suggestion would be more quick baked goods in the glass. There were some yummy looking cookies and sandwiches but not to much of a variety of quick bites. They do however have a menu of made to order yummy eats that looked delicious . If you are in the Kaimuki are and are looking for a good latte above the rest check this place out . Having seen "Cheap Eats" review on 02-15-21 or 2-16-21 with Guy Hagi, I ordered the bento "sweet & sour tempe" and the "Kanak attack". Noted that the "tempe" bento was cold, refrigerated perhaps? My spouse tried it on 2-18-21 for dinner. Her review was too sweet, that overpowered the whole meal. Late last night, the ingested food decided to exit itself from her body via the same way it was consumed. Not pretty. Went in today with three lovely ladies for the vegan brunch! This was my first time here despite having drooled over their Instagram for moooonths! We got four different dishes and split them all- the red velvet waffle, stir fried brunch polenta, curry plate, and loco moco. Omg... soooo good. Loved it all. The little sides that came along (I think mostly with the curry plate) like pickled jicama, okra, and daikon, and delicious chutney, were beautiful palate cleansers. We loved it all and are stoked on our leftovers-- which you probably will have because the portions are large and filling! The service and atmosphere were excellent as well. Just tried this spot for the first time and left very satisfied. My boyfriend and I split the portobello and veggie burger sandwich, the tempeh piccata and the 'ulu cinnamon roll. Everything tasted amazing and filled us up! The way the food was prepared was crispy yet soft in all the right places. I was looking for a place in Kaimuku to have coffee to go and I ran into this coffee shop. I ordered a double espresso and a cappuccino to go. After I had got my coffee I left. I should have tasted coffee before I left. It was the most horrible cappuccino in my life. Very bad. My boyfriend couldn't drink his espresso either. We just threw cups full of coffee away. I wanted to go back but we were far from there. I really hoped that I'd like this place and come back for a lunch. But after this bad experience I won't go back for sure.... read more

The chefs take great care in selecting locally sourced food, and you can tell that they put so much love into every detail. You can tell by the flavor and the way you feel after that the food is good quality, fresh, and nutritious. The menu changes every week. Who does that?! They do. Because they care A LOT. And you should too. I tried this at the recommendation of a friend and it was delicious! I am not a vegan by any means but the options were definitely there. I had the vegan macaroni and "cheese". I wish I'd taken a picture but before I knew it, it was gone! I also had the ginger chai "ale". It was a bit too strong for me, however, I cut it with water to my personal palate. Juicy Brew sounds like the name of a coffee shop. Yes, they have coffee but would you believe that this place offers some awesome vegan cuisine? I had seen articles and write-ups on Juicy Brew and it sounded great! My curiosity was piqued and the next time I was in Kaimuki, I turned into a parking space. I walked into the store and, wow....so many things! And again, yes they had coffee but also kombucha. On the counter by the register, ulu walnut mochi, and energy mix and Asian Banana Passionfruit Bread. On the side, Banana Nut Cherry Butter mochi. And then the glass case in front, chock full of goodies...glass noodle salad bento, summer corn & heirloom tomato soup, local fruit cup (pitaya, papaya, walnut hemp, coconut, lime), vegan southwestern grain salad with creamy avocado dressing, pad thai with caramelized miso eggplant, vegan pad thai, orzo pasta with sunchoke, organic broccollini, pumpkin seeds, herbs,...and more! So many choices and they all sounded yummy! One of the owners came out to help me and she was so nice. She explained what some of the dishes were and what kinds of ingredients were in it. I finally selected a creamy cheezy pasta with local tomatoes and basil. She informed me that it used vegan cheese made out of cashews. Okay...got to try it once, right? And I also ordered an organic cold brew coffee. How as it? Well, if you eat it expecting it to taste like conventional mac and cheese, you are going to be disappointed. To me, it was a totally different taste from regular cheese but still very creamy with the tomatoes and basil. I liked it. The coffee was good too...very smooth. I follow their Instagram account now and I see all of their daily specials. Their menu changes according to what kinds of ingredients they can get. If you like vegetarian or vegan food, you should check them out and follow them on Instagram so you can see all of the fabulous dishes coming out each day. Sundays usually have brunch dishes. Parking can be tight as there are only a few stalls right in front on the street. I know they can get busy as I pass by often and all of the stalls are filled. I love that they have so many vegan options and globally inspired dishes! All of their drinks I've had are delicious. However... I have tried a few of their food items and for being plant based, their dishes feel very heavy, starchy, and not fresh. I was always so excited to try something different there and every time I was disappointed. I have had their Vegan Burrito, Vegan Sandwich, and a couple different of their sweet bread puddings. When I think of their meals I just think of pure starch! For example the sandwich was two thick pieces of cobaya bread, a thick piece of some sort of vegan protein, tofu scramble, and a couple slivers of bell pepper.
