Stopped in for Sunday brunch. We both had Shrimp and Grits. The portion size was good, the food temp. was excellent. They use extra large Shrimp (med. would be better for bite size). The Grits were a huge mound in the middle of the bowl. They were very dense and cheesy, would prefer them creamier. They dish needed more sauce and it was lacking in flavor. The biscuits were massive. They had a crunch on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle. If I go back I will pass on the Shrimp and Grits. It was very busy, aboutb20min wait. Based our decision to try Julep on the positive reviews. However, we must have chosen an off day for the kitchen and staff. We ordered the pulled pork plate with red potato salad and cole slaw as well as the burnt end plate with yams. The pulled pork was extremely dry and tasteless. Just a lot of salt. The burnt end plate consisted of dried out stringy chewy bites of meat on top of paste like mashed potatoes that tasted like they were made from instant potatoes. The yams were mushy and probably canned. The service lacked checking in to refill beverages. Overall it was visit that failed and we won't return. read more

I have dined here several times and have never had a bad experience. The fried ribs are excellent, cream of crab and corn chowder is amazing with lots of crab and no shells. My daughter loves the meatloaf and pulled chicken entrees . Their sauces are also amazing. I wish they had a bigger menu but what they do have is always served fresh with reasonable wait time. I wanted a light meal so I ordered the fried green tomatoe and shrimp appetizer. My friend ordered the same thing. What a tiny appetizer it was. 3 small slices of tomatoes and 2 fried shrimp. This is a hidden gem This is the second time I've been there. The service was impeccable. I had a server named Tony very attentive. I ordered a cup of chili if you want the best chili in the world this is a place not over a spice not a lot of chili powder, but the meat in it every spoonful, I believe they were burning hamburger sausage everything. I think I had only five beans in the whole bowl it's a must try. I thought the soda was a little flat. I told the hostess the service came over and said they checked the lines. It looks. My visit to Julep was great! Very good food. The biscuits were great (and big, so one per person is enough even for hungry full-sized humans). They came with delicious honey butter and with pepper jelly. I was skeptical of the pepper jelly when we got it, but it turned out to balance some sweetness with a little bit of heat pretty well. I got the chicken fried steak, a favorite dish of mine. It was among the better I've had. The meat was juicy and tender... not the flavorless, overcooked steak you sometimes get with the dish. The breading was crisp and tasty. The gravy was great, and flavorful but not overbearingly salty. I decided to get a julep at julep. It was solid. The other two people in my party were very happy with their food, too. Our server, who I believe was also a bartender (we were there towards closing), was great. She was very personable. Attentive but not overbearing. She picked up that we were in the area for a fun time and fed into that with jokes and a bit of casual honesty while staying very professional. She couldn't have been better. I don't know when I'll next need a meal in the neighborhood, but I definitely want to go back to Julep whenever I do. read more

My Husband was looking for a place to celebrate his Birthday and he found this place on Yelp. This place was previously Bettucci's Restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant a smoky aroma hits your nose, it smells so good. They were busy but we were seated right away. Our Server Dominique W. came over and greeted us, he was very pleasant. We drank Sweet Tea and ordered several food dishes, see pics. We didn't care for the Biscuits, plain and semi hard, the honey butter and jelly was good. The Smokey Old Bay Wings were tasty nice sweet smoky taste. I got Shrimp & Grits that was delicious and Hubby got Jambalaya he liked it but the sauce wasn't thick enough for his liking. We shared Bread Pudding it was good. Our Server Dominique checked on us often and was very friendly, he has great Customer skills. Found Julep via Yelp when looking for a place after the Renn Faire and it hit the spot after festival food. We were seated right away, not too crowded on a Sunday night. Terrific service by Patrick who made great suggestions on the menu. The Waffle Pig was crazy good but a lot of food that was great to take home. The place smells amazing with the aroma of smoky pork. Definitely a 5 star restaurant for food and service. It's a Southern Kitchen and you definitely get the hospitality you would like from the South. It's spacious and has a nice outside area. I drove about 45 minutes to check it out and it was sooooo worth it. I will return and bring friends. Met the Owner who is super kind and down to earth. But even if he was a jerk; I would come back for the biscuits but he wasn't and the food spoke volumes of his dedication to his craft. They have outdoor seating, but I chose to sit inside because it seems like they allow dogs at the outside seating. Service - GREAT!!! Our waitress name was "Cass." She was so sweet and gave us recommendations on the dishes to order. We had her to ourselves until a large party came and we had to share . Overall, she was just great! Food - Our appetizer was the homemade biscuits with the pepper jelly and honey butter; along with the wings where we got half blackberry chipotle and baked (pictured). Our entrees were the fried fish and chips but I subbed my chips with macaroni and cheese, greens and Brussel sprouts (not pictured). The fish was friend to perfection, the macaroni was cheesy and pretty good and the greens were good as well. The Brussel sprouts weren't as great as I expected, so I wouldn't order that again if I went. My friend ordered the chicken a lot. With the yams and macaroni and cheese, however she did not like the yams and subbed for the potato salad but she didn't like that either. Tip trickery! Food, service and cocktails were nice. But, after a cursory review of my check, I was presented with an electronic device showing a tip option for 20%. I'm a good tipper, so of course I pressed it. Later, a closer look showed that I'd already been charged an 18% tip! Should I have looked more closely? Yes. But the included tip should have been brought to my attention. Hard not to feel like the omission was deliberate. Unfortunately, this colors my view of the establishment. I won't return. read more

This was our visit after wanting to try it for quite some time. Sarah was our server and she was so patient and pleasant. I adored her. We ordered crabby fries and old bay wings. Entrees we ordered brisket, chicken biscuit and fish and chips. The crab fries and wings were delicious. My brisket could have used a little more flavor, but the texture was beautiful. I wasn't a fan of the Mac and cheese, but we loved the collards. Tender and perfectly seasoned. My kid didn't like the sandwich, but she was satisfied with the appetizers. I was going to home depot and saw the sign for southern kitchen......i thought to myself - why not????? So.....we went in and decided to try a few items on the menu : fried catfish, chicken biscuit, crab fries, kids hot dog/fries, black berry chipotle glazed chicken thighs, and hushpuppies. I felt like the hostess wasn't as nice as I would have like but not rude. The waiter was pleasant and accommadating. The service wasn't in tune with the ambiance, I wanted a vibe...but I still tipped because it wasn't horrible, just didn't meet my expectations is all (I obviously was waaay too excited). Ordered the biscuit basket as an appetizer and thought this was the best bite of the meal. Table entrees included the ribs, brisket sandwich, sampler platter, chicken thighs, beet salad, and jambalaya. I tried all the bbq meats and the chicken thighs were best- super tender and juicy. All of the other meats were solid, just not standout. The brisket sandwich looked delicious, but unfortunately, I did not get to try that and didn't get pictures of everything. Cajun fries were yummy too. Mac and cheese is super cheesy; collared greens good. Got apple crisp and bread pudding desserts to go; both fine but nothing I would necessarily go back for. Chanced upon this place, while driving to visit Terrapin national park. This place is big. Good thing it's away from the touristy part of Annapolis. They had the second best biscuits I've ever had. My fav is still the ones I had in Myrtle Beach last year! The biscuits are homemade and came with a side of sweet butter. Big , soft and warm! My little one ordered the kid's cheeseburger and polished it off in minutes. My older one had the chicken pot pie and it was her first time and loved it. Thick buttery flaky crust and the inside was goey with lots of chicken and vegetables . I had the Texas chilli, it was a hearty soup and filled me up ( well I'm also trying to eat a little less these days! ). My hubby got the cream of crab soup ... it was yumm. We wanted to finish off with the dessert sampler ( you get to pick 4) . I wanted the pecan pie coz I saw a few others diners have it and it looked delicious, but my kids wanted the brownie sundae and that's was we got ( remember I'm trying to cut back) so the pecan pie will have to wait for another day ! My wife and I were excited to finally be able to try this restaurant out. We went on an early Friday afternoon to avoid the crowds. We started with a gingerbread old fashioned , which to our surprise was pretty much just whiskey in a glass and not even an old fashioned. We then had the crabby fries for an appetizer. They were absolutely delicious! We both ordered the Smokey Fried Chicken for our entrees and were both a little disappointed. The Fried Chicken was not your typical Southern Style Fried Chicken. The Fried Chicken had a rub on it and then was fried. I feel like the rub took away from the juiciness of it and made it very dry. I have never had to pour sauce on my fried chicken, but the chicken was so dry I had to use the sauces on the table to make it less dry. The chicken comes with 2 side orders. I had mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy. The mac and cheese was pretty good and the mashed potatoes and gravy was just ok. For dessert my wife and I split the brownie sunday. It was really good and was the perfect size for 2 people to share. The service was ok, wasn't great, but wasn't bad. Overall the experience was just ok, nothing to write home about. read more

This is our third or fourth visit during COVID-19 and the very best, by far. Consistency: great food and friendly waiters. I tried the The Waffle Pig today and it is massive! I don't typically order pulled pork, but the stuffing waffle drew me in. I DO NOT regret my selection at all. Mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and gravy are great together. My husband stuck with their fried chicken and you'll never go wrong with that. Glows: Our prior concerns were about the hostesses, in the past. Each time we went, the hostesses acted as of our business didn't matter by nonchalantly acknowledging us. Gabby was the opposite. She was polite, attentive and acknowledged us as soon as we arrived.
