What's not to like? While Jules Maes no longer offers live music (a side effect of legislation requiring retrofit of fire suppression equipment, which would be too expensive to justify for the type of shows this venue once hosted), it now fills the former concert space (the back of the saloon, just keep walking past the restrooms) with ping pong, air hockey, a variety of pinball machines, and a pool table. The food is surprisingly excellent, I particularly enjoy the buffalo burger (with a side of piping hot tots, natch). Variety of entree salads, sandwiches, and full entrees (don't forget to flip the menu over). It's rarely packed to the rafters, even on a weekend night, but also rarely deserted. The crowd is fairly typical for Georgetown. A little older than Capitol Hill, and a fair amount more relaxed. I've always had good service here, either sitting at the bar or at a table/booth. I recently forgot my kind-of-expensive sunglasses at a table on a Monday evening. When I called on Thursday to ask about them, the person answering the phone remembered finding them (she was our server on Monday), and even asked what time I'd be coming by so that she could let her replacement know where to find the sunglasses. It's a little thing, but thoughtful. Regarding the drinks -- the bartenders squeeze fresh juice for mixed drinks, which are very good but not holy-crap-craft-cocktail good. If that's what you're looking for, the Zig Zag Cafe, Canon, and Tavern Law have your back. That said, I tend to stick to the super fresh Georgetown Brewing selections that are on tap. There is a free lot behind the building, but it does fill up. Parking usually isn't bad, I've never had to park more than a block away. There's a bus stop right in front if you're taking public transportation. Jules Maes is comfortable and fun, and isn't trying too hard, just hard enough. Who knew that this little pocket of Georgetown had so much flavor? We went there on a warm day in Seattle which made the inside *hot*. Be warmed that this old building does not have a/c. Other than that, the drinks were plenty and quick and the food was quite good for bar food. The portabello gorgonzola sandwich was great as were the fries and salad. The shrimp po'boy sandwich had too much bread but the filling was tasty. Other folks at the table loved the tots (don't put them in your pocket!) and the grilled cheese looked like greasy food goodness. I ended up dancing to 80's music at Mix a few doors down with our waitress so, hell, I like this place. read more

I love most of the places on Airport Way in Georgetown, but Jules Maes is one of the best. Feels like stepping back in time, and I keep thinking The Three Amigos are going to come walking in and play "Sweet Little Buttercup" on the old piano. This is a hot rod, motorcycle, rockabilly bar and it's just about the oldest bar in Seattle. Martha of Shorty's retromodeled it and did a fine job...it looks like an "Old Timey Saloon", which is what it is. I have to give one of my favorite Seattle bars a full fiver. I've had almost everything on the menu and it never disappoints. The servers are more than accommodating when test on meeting demands. The beer is great and the drinks usually keep you coming back for more. My favorite would be the Famous Flatliner (check the menu, add extra bacon!!!) with tot sauce and Bacon Burger. The wings go hard, the mac and cheese with pork wing blew my mind and the bacon wrapped shrimp sent me over the top. The naysayers are probably first timers on busy nights. Keep it simple and cool and the Jules staff will take care of you 100%. read more

We were here two nights ago and I ordered the loaded tots as my meal. The tots came out but didnt have the bacon on them. I flagged down our server and told her about the bacon and she went to the open kitchen to get it then dissapeared. I watched the bacon be put in the window then sit there for 20 mins until I flagged someone else down and asked her if that was my bacon sitting in the window. She grabbed and and said its cold now but they could throw it back on the grill to warm it up. SERIOUSLY?! I am a server and would never tell a customer that. I told her no just forget it and everything else was cold at that point too. Finally our server comes back inside and I ask her about the bacon because I knew she forgot. She say "Oh!" and went to go grab it which I told her dont bother I already did. She then sat down and told me that she gives "shitty service on slow days and it'd been slow all day" WHAT?! It being slow should be when you give the best service! Not to mention why in the world would you tell a customer that?! In the end no one offered to make anything right, no one cared that we had crappy service. Nothing. Very disappointing spending $50 for that. Hoping the owner will see this and redeem themselves because generally the food here is great. read more

I can't even begin to tell the horrific experience I had , I've been here before so I had High hopes I waited fifteen minutes SERIOUSLY for someone to walk over and when I finally gave up I walk up to the EMPTY bar where the bartender and waitress were and asked if there was anyone serving tonight one of the girls then replied in the meanest way possible "well you were looking at your phone so I didn't know" like WHAT!?! Then the bartender chips in and says "what do you want" at that point I looked at both of them and walked out I honestly couldn't believe it I am a server and have been in the industry for years and never have I ever seen such horrible service! Very. Favorite. Bar. Ever. Oh, how I miss you, Jules Mae! Now that I don't live in Georgetown anymore, I can't be a daily fixture at the bar. But that doesn't mean that I don't THINK of you every day! Yummy food, great beers, BEST fruit/vodka beverages ever! (juicy juice squeezed fresh by those loving bartender hands!) But my very very very favorite thing about Jules Mae is the servers. Especially that BALD CHICK. She rocks, and there's not a bartender in town that compares to her. I agree with all those that say how quintessentially Georgetown it is, how the sassy-smart staff will give you shit (but not shitty service) until they're your favorite in the city. Stopped in to get a drink with my girlfriend and wish I hadn't. We sat down to order at the bar and had to wait for a bit while the bartender chatted up some patrons all while half ass taking their order somewhat one by one. When we ordered and had to listen to her complain about how full the bar had gotten. "You wish customers would come in all day and then when they do, it's packed, can't there be a happy medium?" The bar was not packed, we were the only ones trying to order and others were sitting quietly at their tables on a Sunday evening. We took our drinks to sit at one of the empty tables and had some leftover piroshki. The waitress walked by in a bit and sure noticed us then saying, "Oh OUTSIDE FOOD, that's a big no-no." I looked at her for a second wondering if she was serious. She was. Who the hell says "no-no" when seriously scolding a patron? I get that they have a grill, but we were just snacking on a leftover piroshki. We took off shortly after and won't be coming back. read more

Now this is my kinda place! Great music, cheap-ish pool table, pinball machines and 1 skee-ball table. You can chill at the bar to grab some grub out front, or check out a band in the back. Jules Maes is Seattle's oldest still operating saloon. That alone makes it worth the visit. You can picture the blue collar factory workers getting off from the old Rainier (the true original) brewery, and strolling over after a hard day to drink the beer they spent all day making. The food here is excellent. Being from the south, my favorite is the country fried steak. It's the best I have had in Washington. This place is the perfect spot if you are looking for a laid back evening with some brews and some wonderfully delicious greasy food. It's an awesome sort of dive with cool old decor and an array of tables as well as booths. I had the whiskey burger with tots and my boyfriend had the cheese steak. Both were amazing! I've never hung out in Georgetown before, but I eat out a lot and have explored most all the neighborhoods in Seattle except for Georgetown. Upon the recommendation of a friend of mine we went to Jules Mae Saloon. I wasn't disappointed! Very cool atmosphere. I felt like I was truly in an old saloon, but not in the bustling city of Seattle but in a small town in Montana or Wyoming. It was really cool. I thought the service was good, although understaffed, so the waitress had trouble keeping up. Not her fault of course. The food was good too. I had a savory portabello mushroom sandwich. A bunch of us went here after a friends art showing at the SAM to get the party started. I have been here before to see live music, it's a cool place with a definite saloon vibe, hence the name. This time was for FOOOOOOOOODDDDD!!!! We started with a few Flatliners, awesomeness on a plate y'all! If you don't know what it is just order one and smile with glee as you taste nirvana. Basically it is a large plate of tater tots with 2 melted cheeses, green peppers, onions, bacon and sour cream. Sort of like nachos but tots instead of chips. For my main dish I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and it slayed me. It was big, juicy, full of flavor and perfectly done. The bacon was the thick crispy stuff, not that fatty shriveled up crap you get from lesser joints. I can't remember what everyone else ordered thanks to the steady stream of Rogers Pilsner that flowed easily from glass to mouth but everyone was happy with the food. Our server/bartender was the shit as well. She was super friendly and had some of that east coast flair that I miss. I have read other reviews talking about bad service, maybe it gets a bit more surly when it's crowded on weekends but we experienced top notch friendly service all the way around. The food was great, but the cleanliness of the saloon was awful. There were literally 2 inches of dust on everything, and the ceiling fans were CAKED with crud. There were plenty of cobwebs to be seen as well. The restaurant was also very dark inside. Great service, good food, but the place is filthy. read more

My running group finished up there today. What a disaster. We were singing some Christmas songs and had spent about $500 on beer/food. One of the bartenders came into the back room where we were and stared yelling at us. He actually took my bag of running gear and threw it 13 feet across the room as he told us to "get the fuck out". I sat at the perfect table, looking out at a double rainbow while drinking a 9lb porter. What else do you want? Great venue with plenty of room. It is possible that "Kings Hardware" bar copied and pasted this bar, considering it's paint by numbers, trophy animals, and skee ball. It was like Deejay Vu.
