The broad scope of gluten free options is in large part what gets Jules a high score from me. The garlic bread was kind of disappointing-- wet and floppy on tiny triangles of uncooked gf white bread. HOWEVER, the waitress could tell I wasn't jazzed about it and she took it away and comped it. They also give complimentary treats to diners with no gf offering. It's a bummer that a big part of their dining experience is the gf element, but they only provide glutinous complimentary treats. It is sad to watch dining partners chow down while I watch. Overall a good experience though, nice pasta (I had the florentine) and good crème Brûlée! They were also very professional about my having a service dog. My only complaint is just how disappointing the gf bread was. We also went for breakfast a couple days later and I was less impressed with that. We both had eggs Benedict and asked for the potatoes to be crusty the waitress replied "they are already crisped" in other words they cooked as is. We had to sit outdoors because we are from out of town, and have our very well behaved dog with us. We were locked in the outdoor sitting area. The manager had to be found to lock and unlock the gate each time. There were a group sitting in from of this gate and had to be interrupted twice to accommodate us. Why lock us in or out? Unfortunately this restaurant has officially made big changes to its original menu and also has made a move that i feel has priced its loyal patrons out eating at its restaurant. Prices were always slightly on higher side but on occasion given the well rounded creative menu and pretty decent food it was a good dining option. Dinner for four. Four different entrees. We all had drinks. I struck out all the way around. I ordered a simple gin and tonic and received very little gin with a cucumber. First disappointment. Should have been told that bartender was being innovative. Lousy drink. I ordered fish and chips. Big mistake. Fish was as thick as a piece of cardboard but breading was three times thicker. I placed a take-out order yesterday. When I arrived to pick it up a woman handed me the check to sign, before handing me my food. She stated, "'Bonnie" took care of your order today. Please total and sign at the bottom.." while glaring right at me. It was CLEARLY OBVIOUS She was expecting me to tip. For what exactly? I do not appreciate this. I'm sure we can all relate. When did tipping for takeout become a regular thing? That's on the restaurant owners, don't depend on us patrons. Be better if your employees are depending on take-out tips to make a living. I come once or twice a year on special occasion and every time I am very unimpressed with the food. The service is okay but this past March I made a reservation for my dad's birthday, I wanted to take him to brunch and I showed up 5 minutes early (which in my mind is on time) so anyways, my dad and I check in with our reservations and the restaurant was dead and the hostess was so weird she was like "well you guys are early so I am gonna have you wait over here" and she pointed to the crappy chairs in the corner of the restaurant. So we reluctantly went and sat down and my dad and I both expressed how weird it was that she was making us wait when #1 we had reservations #2 the restaurant was dead and # 3 we were literally 5 minutes early. We walked in with personal coffee mugs. The hostess immediately turned us away, saying that they don't allow outside drinks, and that it was an allergen issue. There were no allergens in our coffees, but she wouldn't know that, because she didn't ask. We humored her and put our coffees back in the car. My friend had heard great things about this café, and we were eager to try it. She ordered a steak salad, and I ordered a veggie sandwich which was purported to have Portabella mushroom in it. When the sandwich arrived, there were quartered button mushrooms in a tomato-onion-red pepper mix inside. Not what I was expecting. I said I wanted to keep the sweet potato fries, but I really wanted a sandwich with portobello on it. The waitress seemed to understand. While we waited for my sandwich to be remade, my friend noticed several pieces of slimy lettuce in her salad. When my sandwich was returned to me, it was on the exact same bread used in the first sandwich, and had gotten completely soggy. The sweet potato fries were the same sweet potato fries, and they had not been warmed in the meantime, so they were now cold. I got Portabella mushroom on my sandwich, but it was thin slices, and only about five of them. It appeared the button mushroom were plucked out. It was not yummy. No apologies issued, no accommodations made on the check for the mistake. I will say that our young waitress, while a bit confused at times, did her best. I decided to go with a salad until I became more familiar with the restaurant - this indicates I was planning on returning. I was dining alone and had the opportunity to look over the whole dining area. I thought it was very plain and uninviting. By the time the salad arrived, my derrière was not comfortable on the wooden seat chair. I knew I didn't want to sit through an entire dinner regardless of how great the food or service was. The dining area is rectangular with two rows of tables running the length of the room. There were minimal decorations lending to the lack of ambience. The salad was fine. The service was fine. The food is pretty good. We really like the salads......BUT we mostly do take out and I can say I'd Rather go to the dentist than call to place an order. It's so bad, I won't call anymore, and we probably would get food there 3x more if it was easier. We mostly order the same thing most times, and my wife has to fight with them to get her salmon well done. (It's not how the chef prefers to make it....and if it's over done, they won't take it back. . ). Then we can't just tell them what we want, they have to read a list and ask about allergies, etc. and when she asks to add blue cheese, they interject that there's a fee, which we know from the menu, then when wife my said I'd be picking it up, they scolded her and said it will be under her name. A review of the bakery, not the restaurant... I wanted to order 24 cupcakes for a kids birthday. I was trying to accommodate a peanut allergy and this was the only nut free bakery I could find. I called to order and at first was shocked to learn that 24 vanilla cupcakes with pink vanilla frosting was going to be $108. But I wanted to outsource that so I was willing to pay it, hoping they would at least be good. Sadly, the cupcakes were mediocre at best. The frosting was fine, but the cupcakes themselves were the same density as a muffin. They were very bready and not very sweet at all. I have never had a cake like that in my entire life. The only upside was that I didn't want to eat any more cupcakes-usually I can't control myself around cake but I was more than done after just one. Picture this: a place that talked big about mountain views and delicious eats but was more like a sitcom with owners who thought they were running a circus. Working there was like being in a reality show called "Micromanagement Madness." The owners hovered over you like you were a rare artifact in a museum. You'd make one mistake, and they'd look at you like you just blew up the kitchen... Its gross. The turnover rate for servers is insane. They have had one server there for the last 10 years, everyone else 1-4 month terms.. yikes. They'd shuffle servers in and out so fast, it was like they were playing musical chairs with aprons. It was a server rollercoaster - in, out, next! Whoever can handle every move of theres scrutinized wins! Make sure to be extra greatful for the 15 minute break they give you - only if you work a double.. and absolutely no free food. The discount is a joke too. And the owners? They were like the bosses in a video game, leveling up in profits while paying servers like they were handing out Monopoly money. They lived the high life while servers were left scrabbling for tips. They won't let servers go for the night even if theres just one table. They rather have you scrub the bathroom floor for $6 an hour. This place was beyond disappointing; it was stomach-turning. All teen girls running the kitchen and 1 head chef in the back that were all sad and hating their job. As well, one bakery lady whos been their for 10 years, like that one women whos been serving for 10 years.. I feel bad for them. While all the women servers and back of house were treated poorly, a lone college boy got praised for his frown. It was a stark display of favoritism and inequality that made the whole atmosphere downright sickening. Definitely misogynistic. But not to their daughter who they named the restaraunt after who can do no wrong. Their food? Let's just say their menu was fiction at its finest. They promised "American Rustic cuisine & Italian delights" but lets be real. If a customer disliked the food it was an insult to their ancestors. Criticize their microwaved fries or prices and they'd give you a look like you just kicked their dog. In summary, this place was the poster child for broken promises and a circus run by clowns who thought they were CEOs. From bland dishes to toxic vibes, it was a comedy of errors. These people are delusional. The staff thinks they run a Michelin Star restaurant. I live in Essex and have been to this establishment a number of times with my family. It's amazing to me how they belittle you about trying to eat there. It seems they don't like walk-ins and are trying to push people to make reservations only. You can't call them in though, just only for same day. You have to use their website which lets you know 24-48 hours if they can accommodate you. Then when asking who I can assume is the manager or even the owner, he's always there. He gives you grief, explains his "office" won't let him make reservations for next day. I can call a corporate box chain who has a much larger office than him, and they can put me down for weeks out. When I tried to explain that he wasn't being friendly and it was frustrating to me, he didn't care; shrugged me off, which I told him you lost a customer, still didn't care, just said "ok", and ended the call. How does he expect to do business this way? If he did have an office I'm sure they'd love to hear he's turning away business. What a pompous ass. Not to mention the food. Mediocre at best. They aren't changing the game by any means. Sure they use local sources, and they offer breakfast which in Essex that's hard to find. This time I got the fish and chips for pickup. Unfortunately when I went to go eat my fish and chips, and looked at the French fries under the fish .... I'd give the food and cleanliness a 5. I have traveled to many places and have eaten at many establishments. This was the first time I've experienced being stressed and overwhelmed by a hostess. I read online, reservation were encouraged. When I called I was told, they couldn't guarantee a table. When we arrived plenty of tables. Immediately we were told about the baby rules, keeping aisles clear, allergies, laws about touching certain items and how to check out. Scolled for not making it clear we had separate checks. Giving this place a two because their food is decent and they do a good job of accommodating food allergies. Those two factors aside, the staff are rude and combative and their emphasis on reservations is ridiculous. There have been multiple times my family and I have gone in as a three or a four top and been greeted with "do you have a reservation?" when the restaurant is less than half full and then been asked to wait. In addition, they only take same day reservations and require you to go to their website and make a "reservation request" which then auto generates a message stating you will be notified within 24-48 hours as to whether your reservation request can be accepted. This process is both frustrating and inconsiderate to those who are trying to plan ahead... hence the concept of making a reservation in advance. When I called to speak to someone about this process, it was the manager who answered-- once again combative and rude. While I was trying to explain how inconvenient their reservation request process is for people who are looking to make a reservation for the next day he actually cut me off and hung up on me. Came in on Tuesday for a quick lunch while apartment hunting. Our server greeted us warmly and explained that any dish could be made per dietary restrictions (that's a huge plus). My dad got the Veggie Sandwich, which was "Portobello mushrooms, roasted red peppers, tomato, red onion and goat cheese." He said it was very good. My mom ordered the BBQ Chicken Salad Bowl "made with Mixed Greens, chickpeas, tomato, chicken, corn & zesty BBQ Sauce." I chose the Grilled Chicken Sandwich with cheddar cheese. Our sandwiches came with nice and crispy fries. My mom's salad was large and she said it was delicious. The dessert case was full of delectable treats and the neighboring tables had ordered some amazing looking breakfast-type treats. The JULES's Dutch Baby, described as "a beautiful cavernous pancake baked in a cast iron skillet and served topped with fresh fruit, powdered sugar and warm local Vermont maple syrup" and is made to order, sounds like something to share on a cold winter morning. I loved the warm colors of the dark wood, brightly painted walls and windows everywhere. Dinner is overpriced for pasta with small portions and mushy pasta. The male owner is always accommodating, friendly, personable and professional. Two waitresses are professional. Talker dark haired woman (30's?) at cash register and dessert case...... SNOTTY. Not friendly even after going there at least 10 times for breakfast. Desserts to go: Servers use knives straight out of disinfecting agent, wet, without wiping solution off of the knife/server. I have mentioned this at least three times as well as touching food with fingers to push into containers. I no longer order desserts to go. Overpriced desserts and not worth the price. Jules on the Green is the cleanest brightest cafes I have eaten at. I love the fact you can get a soup for breakfast, or even a burger if you wanted to. Everything we ordered was fantastic. The prices might be slighter higher but I felt it was worth it. T Coffee is fantastic, including the cold brew. During our recent stay in Vermont we visited this restaurant often. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner here during our (4) days in Vermont. Amber our waitress was has a great personality and delivered top-notch service. We will be back to this restaurant next time we are in Vermont and will ask for Amber! The last day we came in for breakfast and the owner came over to say hello and introduce herself. Just go there and try breakfast, lunch or dinner I think you will like it. How I wish I could have tomatoes, the Bloody Mary's looked amazing. our family went there as a group 2 years ago and everything was amazing. Based on that experience, we all gathered on Saturday. May 11th. Way different experience. 6 of us had breakfast and all of us were very disappointed. A steak knife was needed to cut the crepes and pancakes. Unbelievable. The greeter was rude and the entrance was not even handicapped accessible. I was using a walker and had to lift it to enter. All in all, the service was great. I've wanted to dine at Jules on the Green ever since they opened. I thought the restaurant looked nice from the outside and it was conveniently located near my family in Essex. We.finally set.aside time and our party of four agreed to rendezvous at the restaurant at noon. From the moment I walked inside I knew I made a mistake. Rather than being greeted by the traditional Vermont warmth I found myself in a cold and uninviting dining hall. My friend and I were told to wait in the "waiting area" ( two chairs by the bathroom) until the remainder of.our party arrived. We weren't allowed to sit a table even though two were immediately available. It was a cold morning and a cup of.hot coffee would have been more welcome than the toilet bouquet that eminated from the restrooms. After 15 mins our family arrived and we were told our table would be ready momentarily. However apparently standing near the desert counter is unacceptable as we were shooed away by the pretenious blonde "sheepherder" who herded us back to the toilet waiting area. I checked the menu and a snotty attitude wasn't listed so I only assume it was it was included with your meal. To be fair, the food was fair but the entire experience left a bad taste in my mouth. If you find yourself near Jules On Green, keep driving and head to another restaurant in the immediate area. I was looking for a coffee shop shortly after moving back to Vermont, and someone suggested Jules On The Green. While it is not exactly my idea of a coffee shop, It definitely fits the trend of fancy cafe meets quiet restaurant that seems to be prevalent in the state of Vermont. Though they have very few coffee and tea options, they do have a full breakfast / lunch / dinner meal menu and list of brews and wine- much of which seems locally sourced. The meals range from quesadillas to burgers. You can get sweets like cakes, cannolis, and muffins from the case at the front. They offer up healthy vegan, gluten free, and vegetarian options. The prices are a little high, but thats to be expected with the fancy vibe they seem to be going for. The decor feels more fancy then cozy, although I assume that the outdoor patio seating for the summer months is a little more cozy. They play that quiet jazzy music that a lot of similar restaurants play. There is not much about this restaurant that sticks out to me as far as its individual personality, but if in the area I would go here again because the food and service is pretty decent. read more

Frozen food, poorly reheated... expensive for similar items from such famous chefs as Stouffer, Marie Callender, and his Grace, Boyardee. Service is ok. It's clean... and "hip." It seems to have invested in the location, layout, and marketing. Not quality, portion and price. We will pay more if it's good, local (when it can be,) and cared about... the food seems like it was a last thought to a bigger picture... maybe it should've been first... or second at least... hell after a 100 bone dinner for two... Reading the reviews, I agree with so many of them. Food was mediocre, the rules they have about different things are so different then what I have seen in other restaurants. Make sure if you are splitting a check to tell the waitress before and not after and they prefer cash because of the rising cost of credit fees. The desert though was really tasty! read more

During the pandemic we have been purchasing takeout from the local restaurants in our area for in Essex. Jules has a wide selection of gluten-free items on their menu. The only problem I have is that they are the only restaurant we have ordered takeout over the past year to charge an additional charge for takeout. I ordered their "fresh mixed berry fruit bowl" for $7.50 and instead received their berry crepe (after making clear that I am on a sugar-free diet) and asking the waitress if there was anything else besides berries in this, which she assured me was not the case. When I told the staff about this, I thought they would simply replace the order with fresh berries. Instead they brought me a tiny cup (about 15 berries total) of the same berries, scraped off of the crepes and still covered in sugar.After I pointed this out, they again took back and brought me the same berries, partially washed off, still with sugar on them and water at the bottom of the cup. At this point I didn't even bother asking for a replacement again. I will not be returning. read more
