Review is for Juilian Pie Company frozen unbaked Apple Pie (bought locally at Gelson's). I seem to miss out of this gem as usually just stocked for the holidays. The pies go quick! Must be stocked for July 4th holiday? Finally grabbed one and so glad I did! The thawing and baking instructions were spot on. The pie turned out perfect and so delicious! It's been years since we have visited Julian, but after this pie, we are planning a trip! So glad Julian Pie company offers this frozen option!
Cant go to Julian without having some pie. Julian Pie Company is one of the two well known places for pie. This was our second time visiting the area and it really makes a difference between weekday and weekend. The first visit was a saturday and it was so crowded. Took about 30 minutes to find parking and lines everywhere to get into the small businesses. 2nd visit was completely different. Not busy at all, found parking right away, and no lines. And this was on a friday at 1pm. Theres a variety of flavors to choose from. We had to go with dutch apple caramel crumb and the pecan pie. Absolutely delicious and they warm it up for you. The inside area to order isnt that big but the line moves quickly. In the main store, theres a freezer section for unbaked pies to take home. Theres about 4 tables inside but theres plenty of seating outside. Cute swings as well. They also have a separate store across from the main store with a larger freezer but they also sell pies by the slice and baked pies. They also sell other things such as apple smelling candles cookbooks etc. there is a restroom here also (very clean but no baby changing area). the staff here were nice both times. Definitely a must try if you are visiting.
We're on a road trip headed out West and we were steered in the direction of Julian, CA specifically for this pie company! Thank heaven!! We ordered the peach apple and caramel apple pie, by the slices! She put whipped cream on top and threw in free vanilla and spice ice cream! This is the best pie you'll ever eat, for sure!! Make a day of it! Take Hwy 78 from Ramona and enjoy the wineries along the way! Plus, there are country stores that sell apple cider, local honey, and other wares!
We, of course, have to stop here when in Julian. I love love the apple pies here! I cannot go to Julian without stopping here. I don't care how long the lines are! I have to buy my pies. We ended up buying 6 pies to take home. They were for family and friends that we wanted to show our appreciation and love to. My favorite here is the Dutch apple pie. I love the crumb on the top. Omgosh to die for. He loves boysenberries, so we got one boysenberry apple crumb. Of course we both got a piece of their original apple pie with ice cream to eat before leaving. I will always go here when in Julian!
Now you can get an apple pie anywhere, but for the absolute best apple pie you head out to Julian California! Small mom and pop shop in the heart of Main Street Julian. Pumping out all sorts of pies and ciders all day long. The more popular items do sell out quickly but don't be alarmed, they have plenty of frozen pies on hand to take home and bake yourself. If pie is not your thing, they do have muffins and cider donuts available, hot teas, coco, etc. There is always a line out the door but worth the wait. Order at the counter and wait for your number to be called. They do their best to get orders out quickly. Limited seating inside but more than enough seating outside for you to enjoy your cider, coffee and slice of pie with a side of vanilla ice cream. Single stall bathroom onsite (always a line). If you are just looking to pick up a pie to go home and warm up, avoid the line and head over to their sister building in the same court yard. More than enough in the fridge to grab and go. The strawberry rhubarb pie changed my life. I'm not a huge pie person but oh my lord, this pie is so good. I have officially found my favorite pie flavor. I had gone here back in November and haven't stopped thinking about that pie. This is a cute little building, the employees are friendly, and they sell delicious baked goods. What's not to like? I also recommend the apple cider donut, it's really good.

This adorable store front has plenty of outdoor seating for people to enjoy the beautiful scenery and what is arguably the best pie in Julian; and that is no easy feat, with many amazing local pie shops just within walking distance. Make sure to check out their gift shop, which has a variety of frozen pies to take back home and cool apparel as well! We definitely stocked up on Peach Apple Crumb, Strawberry Rhubarb and Apple Mountain Berry pie to share with our family when we get back home!
Finally made my way to Julian for this famous Julian Apple pie! Came on a random Tuesday to avoid the crazy crowd and there were no lines at all. It is everything I dreamed of. The Dutch Crumble Apple is heavenly. The apples had the perfect tartness. The crust is buttery and crumbly. They are very generous with the scoop of ice cream and I recommend getting 1 order on the side. It's enough to split between 3 people. This paired with the warm pie was so worth the drive. Lots of outdoor seating and a few cute booths inside.
After living in SD for a few years, we finally made the drive to Julian and tried these famous pies! I have to say it was worth the wait to come here AND the wait in line. I'm not a big pie person, but I enjoyed the two slices that we tried. We had the original apple pie with vanilla ice cream and the pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Both of these were incredible - it makes me want to go back thinking about the fresh warm pie and the cold ice cream. We also tried the hot cider but it honestly wasn't for me. Although there was a long line, it moved pretty quickly and our orders came out in just a few minutes after ordering from the counter. I was also pleased that there's quite a few tables and chairs outside. It was full when we got in line but because people are coming in and out all day, we were able to find a table easily. We really enjoyed our time here and would recommend people to try it at least once.
Always a delicious time at the Julian pie company. Every item I have tried has always been exceptional and kept me as a loyal fan. I am happy that all over San Diego county is a plethora of Julian pies that taste just as good as the ones from the OG location. I recently tried the pecan pie as of 11/23/25 and it was surprisingly the best pecan pie I've had in San Diego. I have seen a recipe recently online where the bottom half of the pecan pie was made into like an egg custard type of pie with a pecan pie topping and wondered if any places did that in San Diego. Lo and behold I find out Julian pie company's pecan pies are simply that. If you grew up eating filipino desserts, egg pie (egg custard pie) could have been something you would see on a 90's dessert table. Pecan pie tarts were also huge back then and usually spotted at Filipino parties and gatherings. I miss 90s Filipino dessert tables because it was only a table holding traditional handcrafted desserts that had recipes passed down by generations. Quality over aesthetics for sure. Now dessert tables are about themes and aesthetics, sometimes cultural fusion desserts. But I digress.. I love that there's areas to eat and share pies with your guests. Service is nice.
Do you like pie? Do you like it fresh with ice cream then run don't walk if you haven't tried this pie shop. It is worth the drive. They have more options than if you purchase it at the market. This time we had the apple rhubarb pie with cinnamon ice cream. I wish I knew how to re-create the cinnamon ice cream. It always completes the flavor. Service is quick and easy. Walk up and order your pie. Plenty of options to eat there and take one home. If you're not a local, you can have it shipped to you. This is a great casual spot to stop on your way to Julian and walk around the town or visit old Gold mines.
Came on a Saturday noon, and the wait wasn't too bad! The pies are freshly baked and paired perfectly with the crumb top!! The cinnamon ice cream was also delicious with the pie and wasn't overly sweet. Can definitely see why this is a must try when you're in Julian! The apple cider donut was mediocre, as it was not fresh and nothing that stood out. Definitely would return to try the other pies flavors!

Must visit! When you visit Julian, you definitely need to make this your first or last stop! Julian Pie Company has so many different things to offer, you will definitely find something you absolutely need! We already got our pie fix at Mom's, but made this our last stop before heading out. It was so cold out, a super chilly day, there's nothing more perfect than to grab a hot cup of steaming Apple Cider! It hit the spot! I couldn't stop just standing there sipping my hot cider while waiting for our to go items to be prepared. We got two apple cider donuts, one cinnamon sugar and one chocolate dipped. Long ago, I tried these tiny heart shaped pie crust cookies covered in cinnamon and sugar - Apple Memories! These are crisp tiny bites of love that you want to take home every single time! There are actually two buildings. One where you can grab a bite to eat, the other has all the merchandise, and both have whole frozen pies to grab to go! The building where you can dine has a small inside dining area, it can get cozy in there, but on a chilly day, that is exactly what you want! Just outside there is plenty of room outdoors to enjoy the scenery. In the merchandise building I couldn't help myself... we took home a whole gallon of apple cider, and also bought a jar of Cinnamon Apple Honey Spread and a jar of Apple butter... absolute yum! The hubs also decided to try the apple cinnamon chapstick! Yes, you can grab one of these famous pies at many different establishments throughout San Diego. To make name a few, Iowa Farms, Spring Valley Market, Siesel's and even at Vons! Place is rather very small inside. Probably at least 10-12 seats, very very small booth spaces. Tons of seating outdoors, which is great when it's not cold. Had the Dutch Apple pie, because I wanted something sweeter. It was very good, and served slightly warm. The crumbles on top added the bit of crunch with the soft gooeyness of the apple pie filling, The small scoop of ice cream covered it all, but I had to scoop the ice cream off to eat the pie. read more
March 226 We learned our lesson last year: never leave Julian with just one slice of pie! We stopped by during a trip from Palm Springs to San Diego to show my mom what the fuss was about. Last time, we only got one piece and regretted it the whole week--this time, we did it right. The Dutch Apple with Caramel is honestly one of the best pies I've ever had. It's the perfect treat after dinner. My mom also discovered the pie crust pieces with cinnamon sugar (the Cinnamon Crisps) that they sell in bags. She absolutely loved them! I want to begin by pointing out wow, WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES, this place totally RE-DID its outside areas!!! We noticed this right upon our approach. We knew that this year we would be having our slices of pie outside. It was so, so nice for us and the other people there. NO MORE UNEVEN WOODEN PLATFORMS!!! I'm somewhat disabled and this came as a pleasant surprise. We enter through the same doorway, which leads into a much more open service area THANKS TO THE NEW PATIO AREA. I spoke with JOURNEY, who is one of the FOUR GRANDDAUGHTERS, of the original founder. She explained how they decided to expand, and use cement to make it VERY SAFE, especially for DISABLED PERSONS!!! She explained how that would have been important for her GRANDMOTHER, the original baker of THE PIES. We left with 4 BAKED PIES, and a SIGNATURE MUG. We also enjoyed 2 Pies while we were up THERE, a Pecan à la MODE and a Boysenberry Pie, along with 2 APPLE CIDERS. We enjoyed them on the NEW outside patio. JOB WELL DONE, Julian Pie Company!!! Our visit to Julian took place during Julian Apple Days, which meant big crowds, long lines, and difficult parking. Even so, Julian Pie Company stood out with what we felt were the best apple pies we had ever eaten. The line was long but seemed to advance pretty quickly (pro tip, there's a much shorter line off to the side for whole pie orders only) and the cashiers greeted us with big cheerful smiles. We chose a slice of the natural apple pie, sweetened only with apple cider, as well as a slice of boysenberry apple crumb pie, along with a scoop of ice cream on the side. Caramel dutch apple is top notch. Our eyes widened at the first bite. Now, I don't think I can eat a plain apple pie anywhere else. The pumpkin apple was good, but really tasted more like a pumpkin-only slice. Lines are always long because it's the most popular pie shop. It moves fairly quickly though. Only downside is that the menu is reduced for certain baked goods based on if you visit during the weekday vs weekend. read more
Apple pie from the Julian Pie Company was always a treat and was well worth the drive to the quaint town in San Diego County. Now we live in another state , and although there are many places that make homemade pies, there are none like Julian's. Julian's pies are unsurpassable. Fortunately, they offer overnight delivery, so we ordered two pies. They arrived on time, were very well packed, and are as good as ever. Kudos to Julian Pie Company! read more

Highly recommend stopping here when coming to Julian. The Apple cider Donuts are very delicious and pairs great with a coffee. The only negative is while the outside seating is nice, there are so many wasps! One actually flew into the store and almost stung a little boy. Do I really need to review Julian Pie Company? I mean their reputation is legendary in San Diego County. But since we recently visited them, for maybe the 100th time. How about some pointers instead? Tis the season right now. Apples are ripe and being picked, if you want apple pie, NOW is the time to go. Their culinary offerings are a staple on San Diego families tables and they are delicious. If you are in Julian, and you see a LONG LONG line, chances are you will have two choices. The long line you see is for their full service store front. If you are looking for a slice of pie, or one of their many other offerings, you are in the right line. If however, you just want to pick up some whole pies and maybe some Apple Cider, if you look to your right, you will see another store front. This one is a quick service counter. Usually the line there is short and very quick. In this alternate store front you will find a gift shop. It's worth checking out, they have some really cool items, including premade mixes that you can take home and cook. You will also find frozen pies here, that you can take home and bake. Giving you that very fresh pie experience, right in your own home. read more

The Julian pie Company is the best Julian pie shop in all of Julian! If you ask me, please do yourself a favor go there and get the fresh baked pie. Get a slice or two and Add the vanilla on the top. You will not be disappointed. It is literally so good ..toddler approved as well ! Every time I've been here, I've had great efficient service. Please also note on the weekends might be very busy as this is a very popular place. Don't be deterred. If there's a long line, it is worth the wait ! and don't forget to grab a whole pie to go those are generally frozen stick it in your oven and it is so delicious read more

"A Must-Visit in Julian!" I haven't been back to Julian in about 15 years, and let me tell you--this place did not disappoint! The pie was even better than I remembered. If you're in the area, do not pass up on this spot! We ordered one slice of apple pie with vanilla ice cream and another with cinnamon ice cream, and both were absolutely amazing. The cinnamon ice cream was a surprisingly delicious twist! We also grabbed a frozen pie to go, and I was impressed. It baked up perfectly at home and held up really well. If you're a pie lover (or even if you're not), Julian Pie Company is a must-stop! read more
This place is a favorite of mine every fall. They've upgraded through the years and really made it nice. Would recommend coming in the morning before the big afternoon rush. The inside is small where you order but there is plenty of seating outside on the patio. The pie is the most amazing with a scoop of ice cream. I am not a pie person LOL but I love their Dutch apple pie! The crumble top is perfection and I haven't found a pie that comes close to it! Even amongst their other pie flavors, I just keep landing back on the Dutch apple so at this point I'm not looking at any of the others lol I always get it with a scoop vanilla ice cream. I've tried it with their other option, cinnamon ice cream, but for me the vanilla is the perfect complement. Also get yourself a bag of apple memories - basically pie pastry cookies shaped in cute apples and hearts and covered in cinnamon sugar! Def want to try their cider donuts and cinnamon rolls next time - they look amazing! read more
It's very good but not incredibly amazing like people make it out to be. One slice is $8 which I thought was a little pricey. It's a tourist thing I guess; I get it. Overall, it's fresh, hot, good quality, excellent flavor. Inside was clean, all the workers were friendly. read more
We started our day in Julian here to beat the line and who doesn't love pie for breakfast. I would say be prepared to wait no matter what time you arrive and during fall expect to search for parking and walk due to large crowds. The pricing was great, lots of outdoor seating and pet friendly! Everything tasted fresh and definitely recommend grabbing a scoop of ice cream on the side to contrast the warm pie. read more

Another staple of Julian! A must try even if you don't like pie, come get you a slice. Even better, get you a scoop of ice cream on top!! We wanted to eat and try it all, but opt for a slice of apple pie with, you guessed it, vanilla ice cream. it is a smaller shop, so holding the door open for the people behind you, its polite and everyone here was polite. The line does move quickly and the staff here are all about getting you rang up, paid and moving on to the next customer. There are soooo many choices, best to pick and choose while you are waiting in line. There is a bathroom but it is a tight fit once inside and sitting down. There are tables and chairs outside, but on a nice sunny day and a weekend - Goodluck!! While you can buy their pie in stores, nothing compares to eating it fresh! read more

Absolute must if you're in Julian! I am not a fan of apple pie but the natural apple pie (naturally sweetened with cider and no additional sugar added) is perfect for those who have a sweet tooth but don't like things that are too sweet. I add on the whipped cream and dang... it's heaven. They sell frozen pies and cider jugs to take home too! read more

Of course we had to get some pie while we were in Julian and where else than the Julian Pie Company! We ordered at the counter and our number was called within a minute or two, so even if there is a big line, I would still recommend. We sat outside on their large patio, but they do have a small area indoors with seating. It is a cute little shop to grab a sweet treat! We ordered a slice of the boysenberry apple and the caramel Dutch apple and both were delicious, but I preferred the apple. We got the vanilla ice cream on the side and also a cider donut! read more

I love coming here to the cute little town of Julian. Such a beautiful town. It's so peaceful here. One of my favorite places to come to for some delicious apple pie. The strawberry mountain berry crumb slice with cinnamon ice cream was so delicious. The crunchy crumb part makes it taste so good with all the fruits. It goes so well with the added cinnamon ice cream. The boysenberry apple pie was so fresh, you can taste the boysenberry and apples in every slice. The vanilla ice cream tastes home made. Hack to stop by here while his passing through Julian after hearing that they are famous for their apple pies. I can totally see the hype! A very cute place on the outside and quick service as well. Really love the portion size of all the pies here and pretty much everything that was there on the menu. There was a display of the items that they had available for the day and everything looked really appetizing. The cookies were really large and those cinnamon rolls were unbelievable! I saw someone who ordered the cinnamon rolls and it actually looked so soft and fluffy and delicious! We got the all-natural apple pie to try a version without sugar added. And it was honestly a little tart for some reason. I thought they would have maybe put some monk fruit or others alternative sweeteners but maybe they're just avoided any sweetener. Or maybe the pie was meant to be tart, I'm not too sure about that. Also tried the Dutch Apple Pie and this was phenomenal! That crumb topping on top really seals the deal! A properly nice sweet pie with a flaky crust and that perfect crunchy topping on top. Definitely recommend! Sister-in-law also tried the hot chocolate and she finished it really quick so I'm guessing it was good! read more

These pies are worth the hype, so delicious omg. Personally, my favorite pie was the peach apple one. The whip cream add on is heavenly, you must order that. There is limited indoor seating so designate a person in your group to wait in line and another to hunt for seats LOL. We shared 3 slices in a group of 4 people and it was the perfect amount. read more
The line was long but it was worth the wait! We tried the apple cider donut holes, apple pie with whipped cream, apple pie a la mode, and strawberry rhubarb pie. The whipped cream was a generous portion and the ice cream was rich and delightful. We enjoyed a seat outside in the share during a hot summer afternoon. Very busy lil Pie shop! All of the staff was super friendly! Helpful with my questions. The patio area was very clean, with many tables and chairs for enjoying your warm fresh baked pies! We will definitely be back! read more

The uncooked pies are horrible. Such a stupid idea. 1-1/2 baking and full of water. Not a good idea. Buy the store brand and stay away from the cold pies read more

There is no way to do this unfortunately which is why the line is so long

They are around $20 for a whole pie. Around $5 for a slice. Get a whole pie and enjoy it! Sooo good!!!

3 months they were selling slices. I wish I could go back and get another slice right now!
Can I order a natural apple pie and 6 apple nut loaf? I'm here in LA county. I will pick them up around 2-3 pm.
Check their hours first, they only sell whole pies now not slices, also you can check their website because they have those pies for sales at your local stores like Vons or Albertsons so you don't have to drive all the way to Julian

I would expect Julian Pie Co to be open on Memorial Day - and for it to be very busy - go early and plan on waiting in line for a while,
