Great healthy option in Julian! The coffee was great and there was a small kids area for my daughter to play while we ate.

Welcoming spot with delicious food coffee drinks, pastry. The tartines are a standout and I loved the Mexican mocha. (Tartine here is an open faced sandwich on house made focaccia.) Delicious!

Enjoyed their beautiful outdoor seating while enjoying our drinks. Here on a camping trip in Julian, we really enjoyed checking out this beautiful spot and treating ourselves to something we didn't make ourselves! The staff took a while to greet us when we walked in, and we didn't receive a buzzer to tell us when our drinks are ready so we had to go in and check ourselves. We ordered the blueberry pea matcha, the Purple Owl (blueberry pea lemonade), an iced Smores latte, a tropical smoothie, and some kind of brown sugar & cinnamon latte. Everything was delicious, and we really enjoyed enjoying the sun and our drinks with our pup!

Everything went well, it is farm to table so it takes a little extra time & so worth it. My husband had banana bread french toast with fresh ripe blueberries & strawberries! I had savory crepe with stir fried spinach & onions topped with black olives, the real kind, enjoyed it all.

Great tasting food. Vegan and gluten free options. Quiet cafe in the country with ample parking. I ordered the Papas and loved it.

I had saved Purple Owl Cafe in my collections for my first trip to Julian, and I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere and food were both impressive. I loved their interior decor; although there has been certain comments on it not giving "purple owl" vibes, I think everything looks well put together with several purple colored and owl decorations that respond to the name. There could always be more, but that seems like a nice fit to me, lol. Anyway, I loved my Fun Guy tartine with potatoes, and my matcha tasted just how I like it. Vegan whipped cream was on the menu, but they did not have it, so that was a bummer, but I'll call it blessing in disguise to avoid more calories. My friend and I wanted to try the Beyond Papas, but they were all out of beyond meat. She ended up ordering the Luca tartine and said it was okay but has had better. She loved her Purple Owl drink though! They had a clean restroom outside, which was a plus! I even returned to use it again before I hit the road back home because the porta potty lines were seriously unfavorable, and I'd rather go here (clean restroom over a porta potty) anytime I'm back in Julian.

I stopped by with my friends after apple picking to get a coffee beverage. Staff was nice and wait wasn't long at all even for how busy it was. I ordered a cinnamon honey latte. They ran out of oat milk so I got coconut milk instead and it was delicious. The vibe was comfort meets cute. This is a place to go to for slow mornings or to get work done! I loved the pitched roof wooden paneled ceiling and decorations, very cute. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I also like how they have their own parking lot. I'll definitely be coming back again to try their breakfast food! It's also great that they have vegan options.

extremely cute and well decorated cafe!! Loved the vibe of the place I got the Julian (apple pie latte) and it was pretty good! Tasted like what you expect it to taste like--cinnamons and apples. The wait was a bit long with the line to the door, so prepare for that if you're coming at peak times Would definitely return to try some of their food options!

This was our first stop in Julian, so we could start our day of exploring with a solid breakfast. There was plenty of parking available and it's close to the main street. When we went in there was a bit of a line, but it went by quite fast. Mostly because we were perusing the drink and food menus for the most of it. The cashier was sweet and efficient. There was plenty of seating inside and there were tables outside if you wanted to enjoy the greenery and the soft breeze. We picked up our food pretty quickly, especially when you saw the long line starting to form. I ordered the iced butterfly pea latte and the pooh bear crepes. It was my first time trying butterfly pea and although the color was vibrant and dreamy, the drink didn't have much taste to it. The pooh bear crepes tasted decent. I personally like floral flavors like lavender and the

Always a must stop place while in Julian . My husband thinks the coffee is alittle lacking in strength and flavor but I love the mazapan hot coffee and the apple pie coffee .

My family dined here on 4th of July! Because of that, parking and crowd was probably different than other days since there was a 4th of July parade starting before we arrived. There was no wait to order and plenty of tables indoor and outdoor. There is a small parking lot shared with the Sheriff's Dept and a pet clinic. The restaurant has plenty of menus when you walk in. Order at the register, receive a pager, and grab your goodies when it rings. I ordered the cream cheese dill-ight tartine and it was absolutely delicious! All the different flavors together were perfect! The whole dish kept me nice and full for a day of exploring Julian! My snickers iced latte was also tasty! My husband, our baby and our dog dined outside. I really like their outdoor seating area because it's super spacious and open (no gates or fences), tables (only a few) are very spaced out, and there was so much shade from the trees! There are restrooms available outside of the actual restaurant. Purple Owl Cafe was such a nice breakfast spot. We fully enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend!

Super cute spot right off the Main Street of madness in downtown Julian. Only thing I've had was a brown sugar + cinnamon latte but it was bomb! When I was waiting for my coffee I did see a few food dishes come out and they did look pretty good. I would definitely come back to give this cute little spot another try!

We already got our pie fix at Mom's, but made this our last stop before heading out. It was so cold out, a super chilly day, there's nothing more perfect than to grab a hot cup of steaming Apple Cider! It hit the spot! I couldn't stop just standing there sipping my hot cider while waiting for our to go items to be prepared. We got two apple cider donuts, one cinnamon sugar and one chocolate dipped. Long ago, I tried these tiny heart shaped pie crust cookies covered in cinnamon and sugar - Apple Memories! These are crisp tiny bites of love that you want to take home every single time! There are actually two buildings. One where you can grab a bite to eat, the other has all the merchandise, and both have whole frozen pies to grab to go! The building where you can dine has a small inside dining area, it can get cozy in there, but on a chilly day, that is exactly what you want! Just outside there is plenty of room outdoors to enjoy the scenery. In the merchandise building I couldn't help myself... we took home a whole gallon of apple cider, and also bought a jar of Cinnamon Apple Honey Spread and a jar of Apple butter... absolute yum! The hubs also decided to try the apple cinnamon chapstick! Yes, you can grab one of these famous pies at many different establishments throughout San Diego. To make name a few, Iowa Farms, Spring Valley Market, Siesel's and even at Vons! But if you're in Julian, don't forget to try a pie, grab some Apple Memories, and don't forget to bring a hot thermos to take that hot Apple cider to go! Enjoy!!! Simply the Best! Had the Dutch Apple pie, because I wanted something sweeter. It was very good, and served slightly warm. The crumbles on top added the bit of crunch with the soft gooeyness of the apple pie filling, The small scoop of ice cream covered it all, but I had to scoop the ice cream off to eat the pie.

That said, I do want to clarify that, from what I observed, we were not the last table to be seated. I understand it was a busy Fourth of July, and I know everyone can make mistakes. My disappointment wasn't because of the wait alone--it was because my order was incorrect multiple times, and I was eventually asked again what I had ordered even though it was just biscuits and gravy. By the time my food finally arrived, the experience had already been affected. I don't expect perfection, especially on a busy holiday. I simply shared my honest experience and hope it helps improve service for future guests. -------------------- We ordered our food and my friend received her meal, but my order of biscuits and gravy didn't come out correctly. The server acknowledged the mistake, saying it was her fault and that she would get it fixed right away. Unfortunately, the wrong order was brought out, and the staff had to come back and ask what I had originally ordered. It was a simple order--just biscuits and gravy--so it was frustrating that it was difficult to get right. When the correct food finally arrived, the experience had already been delayed and a bit discouraging. At that point, I was honestly just over it, especially when I was asked if I wanted a box, as if we were finished. Overall, the food was fine once it arrived, but the service experience that day was disorganized and left a negative impression.

Maggie misses the fresh baked fruit bars and were soft and full of sweet fruit flavor.  Cashier told us they are only baked on Saturday now.  We touched the fruit bars and they were all hard from sitting around half the week.  It's sad as we loved stopping here after a trip to Julian for fresh baked treats and Doc Brown's Root Beer.  Looks like we will have to buy all our baked treats at one of the Julian bakeries like Apple Alley that bakes their pies every morning.  https://www.hungryones.com/2021/10/apple-alley-bakery/ Staff was nice and efficient.
