Best apple pie ever. Came back here twice on my weekend trip to Julian. The apples are fresh and the pie is loaded with great flavor. It is perfectly sweetened and not overly sugary. I took home an apple cherry pie and that was even better. Also tried their scones which were very fresh and tasty. The employees are all so very nice. The place itslef is really cute, clean and well-maintained.
01/25/26 Tried the pie after it had been in the freezer since July of last year because our friend brought it back pitstopping after a camping trip. We heated it up and served it with some ice cream and it still tasted pretty good. Normally I'm pretty picky about my pies too! I can't speak to the service or ambiance since I did not physically go to the store.
Best pie in Julian. Period. Oh, you need to know more? Julian is famous for apple pie, and you can't go wrong with any of the pie shops. But if you're looking for the best one, this is it. They're also less crowded since they don't have "Julian" in their name. Not only is their pie perfect, the people here are so welcoming, and the vibe is so cozy and clean.
I've now tried 3 pie shops in Julian. California mountain bakery is by far the best IMO! We opted for the boysenberry crumble. The apple and boysenberry came through so well without being overly sweet and sugary. The crumble was such a nice texture. Overall 10/10. We also had breakfast sandwiches and iced coffee there. There is a lunch menu if you need a quick place to eat as well.
Amazing Bakery we found our favorite bakery here. We shared 2 slices only because we just have lunch 20 mins ago. So it was Cinnamon Ice Cream on top and hot apple pie. Gee if I wasn't full I could of enjoy a big slice it's that good!! It's very clean inside, and so friendly too. We will be back soon for more delicious pie and sandwiches But what we like to try is their Poblano Chicken Pot Pie!! It was sold out so next time I'm making sure we try that first. Visited 4/12/2025 Today I was thinking I'd tell you about a place that most never have heard of. It's not real noticeable from the Hwy if your not looking for it but it's sure worth stopping by for some satisfying munchies. This place has some of the best Pies and Breads in the Julian area. It's like combining Julian Pie Company and Dudley's Bakery all in one only with extras not available at the other two. This place not only has excellent Apple and other hand made Pie and Amazing Fresh Baked Breads, Pastries, Croissants, Biscuits and much more. They also serve Breakfast Sandwiches served on just baked Buttery and Flaky Croissants or Fresh out of the oven Plump Biscuits. Hash Browns are also available . This is what I was in the mood for today. I ordered a Bacon Egg and Cheese Croissant then A Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Croissant and A Plain large Croissant to have with breakfast tomorrow. Also Ham an Eggs is another Choice. Both sandwiches were very tasty and made nice and fresh. There is a nice table area decorated very cool Service was Friendly with a smile. I'm not putting down Dudley's or The Julian Pie Co as they both have very respectable menus. Just saying C M Bakery has it all. For me I like this place better for my taste. On your next trip up to Julian this place is worth a visit. Just Saying
The best apple blueberry pie I have ever had! Let me start by saying, I don't like apple pie because I am not a fan of cinnamon; however, I decided to have a bite of the slice of apple blueberry pie we ordered and it was heavenly, like to the point, I would've (and should've) bought a whole pie. The blueberries were a bit tart and a bit sweet and there was no cinnamon flavor to be found. The crust was crumbly and delicious. The gentleman at the register was friendly and helpful. We also ordered a sandwich that was stacked tall with meat and cheese and all the fixings. The best sandwich we had while visiting. The inside has plenty of seating and there is an outdoor area as well.
This is not for this location, but it is the California Mountain Bakery Pie that is freshly delivered (especially to the Barons Market in Menifee), instead of pointing fingers at the delivery driver or barons market, I thought this should be brought up to your attention. I had bought a mango apple pie at Barons on 6/7, the pie had a "sold by date of 6/8." I went home immediately to eat the pie, half way through my family and I found mold. I want to believe that eating it fresh at the actual location or buying it frozen may be the safest bet to consume this pie. From the time it leaves your bakery, I really don't know how it's handled or if the place that is storing it is properly ventilated/cooled to keep it from spoiling. Again, it isn't about this location but about your fresh pies being delivered to nearby stores. And since it's your name on the box, you are def getting the photos and review as well.
We live in Arizona now and don't get to Julian as often as we used to. We came to Gillian today specifically to go to California mountain bakery. We love this family run business and everything is absolutely delicious! Great people! We vacillate between the cinnamon roll and the sticky bun, but we think the sticky bun edges put the cinnamon roll just a tad for us. We also got the blueberry cream cheese danish. Excellent! We always start with a breakfast croissant sandwich so the sweets have a buffer zone before they hit! Ha! We'll be back in the spring!
California moutian Bakery is one of the best Bakerys I ever been to there biscuits are so amazing and fluffy . Very delicious and make the best biscuits and gravy. If you never been you should try them . The Ladies and Gentlemen staff go above and beyond. They are professional and polite. Thank you for all you do. And I highly recommend this bakery. I will be back. Nice thing is I live close by so I can enjoy the biscuits more.
Come here if you want the best apple pie in Julian! I sometimes dream about their apple pie with crumbles.. the crumble is crunchy and so different from other places around. I literally go to Julian just for their pie! So far I've tried the peach apple, mango apple, strawberry rhubarb, boysenberry apple and summer berry apple. All are amazing. Perfect balance of sweetness and tartness!
My review is for their Apple crumbled pie i purchased at Dons Market while waiting to charge my EV . I decided to surprise my girls for dessert while we camped at La Jolla Indian Reservation campsite . They all liked their dessert, pie tasted great and not overly sweet . I found my favorite pie shop. I heard that California Mountain Bakery is the best pie shop in California so me and one other person had to put it to the test. We made the drive out to grab one of their pies to bring back and try. I was impressed they had 8 different types of pies the day we came. The staff was really nice and answered all our questions. We ended up getting their Summerberry Apple pie which was an apple pie with all sorts of berries in it. It was absolutely insanely delicious. It was perfectly sweeten, had the perfect filling to crust ratio, and the crumble on top was heavenly. It was a hit with our friends back home and highly addicting. I recommend it. Besides their popular pies they also had cinnamon buns, cookies, sweet and savory pastries. I did also get a blueberry scone which was alright but I probably wouldn't get again. California Mountain Bakery also has a full food menu which carries items like sandwiches. The restaurant is pretty large. You order at the register and they'll call you when its ready. There's a whole dining area inside and out. I would most definitely be back and highly recommend them. read more

Best pie in Julian, no long line either! Service went above and beyond the girl with glasses was so nice and even filled our water bottles! Brownie with walnut was fire as well and massive for the price! read more

Come here if you want the best apple pie in Julian! I sometimes dream about their apple pie with crumbles.. the crumble is crunchy and so different from other places around. I literally go to Julian just for their pie! So far I've tried the peach apple, mango apple, strawberry rhubarb, boysenberry apple and summer berry apple. All are amazing. A friend recommended this place for pies in Julian, over the other two well-known shops there. So we grabbed two slices to-go. The flavors we got: Apple rhubarb and Summerberry Apple Both were delicious! I especially enjoyed the buttery and crunchy crumble crust. Honestly, I can't remember how the other two places tasted to compare, but I like this one a lot and will be coming back! Space: plenty of seating in a woodsy-bear-cabin style. Service: excellent. We were served quickly and everything was labeled neatly. read more

The best apple crumble pie I've ever had! We had it with cinnamon ice cream, which was mild and delicious. Can you have pie any other way than a la mode?! The kale and cheese pastry was delicious too. The bakery is small and quaint with a nice parking lot and enough seating. Friendly staff. Wish they hadn't sold out of so many things but hey, that's how you know they're good! read more

Heard that Julian pie was overrated and that this place had the better ranked pies so of course had to check that out. Hands down the summer berry pie was better than Julian's. Wow. Super tasty and the crumble was delicious. The pumpkin pie was good. It was more on the cinnamon-y side which I'm a fan of. Some people I was with liked Julien's better but I'm a cinnamon gal. So I disagree. The ice cream on it was def homemade and we loved that! We got some of their focaccia too. It was good as we added it to our pasta dinner later but next time will try and get their French roll as that supposedly slaps. Everyone was very friendly and service was fast. Plenty of seating inside and in the front. There is a parking lot in front that was super convenient. All in all will def return! read more
We came here after strawberry picking at Julian orchard since we were craving pie. The staff at the farm mentioned this place was close by so we decided to stop in. We ended up getting lunch here as well and got their deli sandwich along with the chicken pot pie. The chicken pot pie was flaky and not too creamy or heavy, which was really nice. I loved how buttery the crust was! The sandwich was also really good Since they ran out of chips, they also let us choose cookies to go with the sandwich. I really enjoyed the chocolate coconut one that they had. We ended up sharing a slice of the cherry apple pie with ice cream and it was one of the best pies I've had. The fruits are fresh and the crumble on top was perfect. Staff here is super friendly and the pies are phenomenal! I'll definitely swing by again to grab a slice (or whole pie!). read more

My husband and I stopped here on our way to hike in Julian for some breakfast sandwiches and were very happy with that decision. He got a sausage egg and cheese on a biscuit and I got an egg and cheese on a croissant. They had a few small tables outside so we could eat with our dog. Food was great and hit the spot, we will definitely be back! Staff was friendly as well. read more

For each visit to Julian I always look forward to walking thru the doors of this wonderful bakery. I envision being like Yogi bear or his side kick Boo Boo bear (Hanna-Barbera cartoon) picking up the wonderful aromas wafting from this bakery and being drawn to it like a lightening bolt. This visit I ordered two brownies and saved one for later. Somehow I just knew I'd love their brownies. Which is saying a lot for me as I've not ordered a bakery brownie in literally decades because it always seemed to disappoint. Their brownie is a symphony of baking love. Every nuance is just right. The delicate top layer has a slight perfect crunch, middle layer (includes tiny pieces of walnut) is cake consistency with moist chocolate flavor, sides have a slight amount of chewiness. In my book this is the perfect brownie. read more

SO delicious!! got here around 12:30 pm on a saturday afternoon and managed to snag the last chicken pot pie, a slice of the apple crumble pie, and a couple of coffees. service was very quick and we did not have to wait long for either our orders to be taken or for our food and drinks to come out. very charming and cozy spot that started off our trip to julian very strong! read more
