Cant go to Julian without having some pie. Mom's seems to be one of the two well known places for pie. This was our second time visiting the area and it really makes a difference between weekday and weekend. The first visit was a saturday and it was so crowded. Took about 30 minutes to find parking and lines everywhere to get into the small businesses. 2nd visit was completely different. Not busy at all, found parking right away, and no lines. And this was on a friday at 1pm. Theres a variety of flavors to choose from. We had to go with apple caramel crumb and the chocolate pecan pie. Absolutely delicious and they warm it up for you. we opted not to get ice cream because we didnt want the extra diabetes haha. The place itself isnt that big but Theres a number of tables to sit inside but on busy days, it can get packed quickly. the staff here were nice both times. Definitely a must try if you are visiting. They also have another stand alone location about 15 minutes away, not sure how that looks but will probably check it out on our next yearly visit.
I've been coming here for many years and I've tried many different flavors of their pies. All of them are really good. I've also tried their chili, cider, hot chocolate, lattes etc. My favorite combo is getting a latte with pie and ice cream. The service is fast once you're at the front of the line and it feels cozy inside.
Gimme them dumplings dumplin'! How much is that pie that's in the window? Popped in to scoop up what I thought was a mini cherry pie in the window. It turns out that it wasn't cherry, and instead was apple razzle dazzle berry or something like that. There were so many different berries in that thing, even the staff member had to look at the menu to remember what they were. No biggie, I really appreciated they took the time to get it right rather than raffle off whatever they remembered from memory. I decided to pass on the whole apple brambleberry express, and instead went with the dome shaped delight known as the apple dumplin'. Who doesn't love a little dome and a little dumplin'. Ahhh I kid. But yeah, that thing had a beautiful cream cheese crust that was cooked to perfection. Inside was a thin caramel like sauce and a whole baked apple. Although I loved the crust and the sauce, the apple itself was tougher than I imagined. It ended up being kind of rubbery, like soft but not fork or spoon soft. It wasn't hard to chew, it just took what I thought would be a single utensil experience, to a full on knife and fork dealio. It was tasty, and I enjoyed it, but I just wish the apple had been softer inside. Friendly staff, quick and easy service, and plenty of pies to choose from. There's another pie shop that has the big name, but don't sleep on Mom's cuz, who doesn't love a good mom? Enjoy my friends.
Whenever we come to Julian I must get a pie from Mom's Pie House. I don't usually like apple pie but my husband let me take a bite out of his apple pie flaky crust and I loved it. I got back in line to order my own and tried the crumb crust and we both preferred that crust over the flaky. I have tried other pies such as Rhubarb Strawberry Crumb, Pumpkin (with whipped cream), and Pecan. A slice is $6.50. I enjoyed them all. I'm still in the works of persuading my husband to take a whole pie home to heat up. Street parking can be hard especially during the weekends. The line may be long but it moves. Every time I have come service has been patient and kind. There is seating inside. It has a country home kinda vibe. There is another location which I prefer because it has its own parking. A lot more indoor seating. They have outdoor seating which is pet friendly. The address to the other location: Mom's Wynola Garden 4510 Highway 78 Julian California 92036 I live in San Diego and they sell the other pie company (Julian Pie Company) in Von's, Ralphs, the commissary and other grocery stores. Mom's Pie House is not :( If we are in the area I definitely have to stop here to get the pie from Mom's Pie House.
First through the door at 8am... greeted warmly by staff and the intoxicating smell of fresh baked pies. We got a whole flakey crust apple pie as well as a slice of crumb top apple with caramel ice cream and a slice of pecan pie to go. Fantastic!! The flakey pie crust is some of the best I've tasted and I feel that the measure of a great pie is in the crust. The apple filling was fantastic and full of cinnamon-y goodness. They serve the slices warm and the ice cream had a luscious rich and creamy texture that complemented the pie so well! Wow!! They have plenty of seating inside if you want to enjoy your pie there (tables and booths) and it feels like you are in a little country home.
Mom's Pie House was 100% worth waiting 30 minutes in line!! My husband and I went to Julian, CA last Sunday. We heard about Mom's so we had to check it out! They have so many pies that I'm not going to list them out. We got the apple crumble pie and it was sweet and sugary with lots of apples. It was an experience of a lifetime like I have no words. We bought an entire pie and a small jug of apple cider for $25. Between the two of us the pie lasted all week. There are instructions for reheating the pie inside the box. The staff worked quickly for the people who had pies at the shop and for the people who took the pies to go. Sadly they were out of the pumpkin pie but we also stood in line around 3:30pm so keep that in mind. DELICIOUS PIE!!!
Bumbleberry Pie (blueberry, raspberry, blackberry): Highly recommend. This reminds me of boysenberry at Knotts. It's not that sweet, but very lightly tart. Rhubarb Strawberry: Tart and lightly sweet. I like sour things but probably not for my dessert. Parking: side street parking or there's a parking lot at the far back behind california wolf center. Wait time: Get's busy after noon. About 10 min wait if you get there before noon.
If happiness had a smell, it would be walking into Mom's Pies in Julian . I swear the aroma alone deserves five stars. I went straight for the apple berry crumb slice (with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, because... duh). It's like the perfect marriage of tart, sweet, and buttery crumb topping--basically, fall wrapped in a forkful. Then I couldn't resist the chocolate pecan slice. Rich, nutty, gooey, and again, yes, with vanilla ice cream. Pro tip: don't skip the ice cream--it's the glue holding together the meaning of life. The staff makes the experience even better. Everyone was so friendly, and I have to give a special shoutout to Richard B.--he was super helpful, patient with all my indecision (so many pies, so little time), and just genuinely kind. If you're in Julian and don't stop here, you're doing life wrong.
I can't tell you how pleased I was to find that Mom's has delicious, gluten free options! Who would have thought in the tiny town of Julian? I had the strawberry rhubarb and it was delightful! Even more options are available in their display case. Will definitely be returning. The next day I came back and we had the GF cinnamon apple muffin and pecan pie with vanilla ice cream (no -GF). My daughter said the pecan pie was to die for and the muffin was a delightful treat. Not overwhelmingly sweet, just right. Even better is their sustainable packaging which I VERY much appreciate. Cute little pie shop with a great selection! So many options to choose from, and everything looked fresh and homemade. The pie we tried was good nice flavor and texture, especially the crumb topping. Not the absolute best we've had in Julian, but still definitely worth trying if you're in the area. The space is cozy and a bit small, but it adds to that local charm. Mom's Pie House has my hubs heart! He wanted to try every single pie you have in here without thinking twice! Sweet treats are the way to my guys heart! We came in here and he wanted a slice of everything! I'm not a super sweets fan, and definitely not a pie person. Something about baked fruit, I'm not a fan of. My eyes widened and limited him to two slices and some cookies! We got two slices of pie, Strawberry Rhubarb and Bumbleberry (Blackberry, Blueberry and Raspberry) the trifecta of berries! We also grabbed a couple of small cookie packages, Snickerdoodles and Ginger snaps. Pie slices are $6.50, add $2 if you want to add a scoop of ice cream (olds school Thrifty Ice Cream! Yum!) The cookies are $3 each. That evening after we got home, for dessert, we tried the pies... hubs gave me side eye. I just wanted to try a tiny bite of each. They weren't bad. I liked the flavor of the Bumbleberry. Most of all I liked the crumble topping of both! Just give me baked sugar crumble topping any day for dessert and I'll be happy lol! Hubs can have the actual pie (and filling). Walking in, a line forms immediately in front of where the pies are displayed to be served. Then you move up to the front as you choose your sweet treats. The pie here is some of the best I've ever had! I wish I had taken a picture of my apple pie but we ding in right away. My husband also had a slice that included berries and both were delicious. If you love pie especially apple pie please check this spot out when in Julian. read more

This is another household pie spot in Julian. The inside has plenty of seating. You order at the counter and find a spot to sit. Service was quick and friendly. I however thought the crust was way too dough like for my liking. But, cannot knock that this place serves quality pies. read more

Mom's Pie House NEVER misses. Always the go to spot when coming through Julian. Warm, perfect buttery crumble slice with ice cream you cant go wrong. Pretty fast service for the line they get too. Definitely worth trying this staple. read more

Their pie is amazing but all we wanted this day was a warm coffee. The service is always friendly and quick. The coffee was delicious and kept us warm. The inside is very cute and I appreciate their bathrooms always being clean. read more
My boyfriend and I went to the Mom's Pie House spot on Main Street and that line was absolutely horrendous we waited around 45 minutes just to be inside the establishment Upon entering this establishment, a few things caught my eye: the cleanliness, attentive staff, fresh flakey pies, and constant movement all around. The staff has a very get it, got it, done attitude which was perfect for such a busy place. Despite the high traffic, everyone remained friendly, respectful, and focused. As for the pie itself, I ordered the flakey bumble berry pie and the flakey pumpkin pie. Both were absolutely delicious. Even after returning to them hours later they remained as delicious as ever. Presentation-wise, the pumpkin pie looked basically perfect while the bumble berry looked a little crazy. The slice was large though so I promise you I'm not complaining here. The only thing that depresses me about my order is that I didn't order a complete pie. They were incredibly tasty. I believe it to be worth the wait :) overall, 10/10 experience. read more

Mom's is a cozy spot along Julian's main street. We came during a March weekday and walked right up to the counter and found a spot to sit down -- that's the time to visit! We shared a slice of strawberry-rhubarb pie with a crumble top (They give you a choice of two topping styles) and had a hot drink each. I was disappointed that even though we dined in, we were given a paper carton to hold the pie with plastic utensils and paper cups. So much waste and not the 'experience' I would have preferred. Still, the pie was delicious. At $6.50+tax a slice, we shared. The restaurant is on the small side with un-cushioned wooden booth benches for seating. (Slightly uncomfortable!) They had samples of pie just inside the door in Dixie cups with a toothpick. Have you ever tried eating pie with a toothpick? Not he easiest! Nice sentiment though. Single stall restrooms. Well, who doesn't love a good apple pie? There are a few options in this town for Apple pie. I've tried the other one now It was time to give this one a whirl. I usually get Str8 apple pie, but this time I opted for the caramel apple pie, which was good, but I felt like the caramel changed the flavor a little bit. Next time I will definitely stick to the more traditional apple pie, but it was not bad. Taking off one star because the flavor was a little different and the pie felt a little doughy on top but on all good apple pie with a nice chunk ice cream. read more

First time in Julian, glad we stopped at moms. We had the apple dumpling with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Asked for the dumpling to be warmed. It was good, we enjoyed it. read more
Still the best in the game! Better than the other pies in Julian- quality ingredients and core pie flavors. They work so fast to get the line through (which is a long wait but worth it) ! I loveeeee their chicken pot pie- that alone is worth the line. Strawberry and rhubarb pie is so yummy and flavorful but we always fight for the last piece of apple crumble! Can't go wrong here. Seating inside is limited but somehow it always works out where a family is leaving as you're done ordering. read more

If you're heading up to Julian, stopping at Mom's Pie House is an absolute must. Hands down some of the best pie you'll find in San Diego County. We ordered the traditional apple pie with crumble, topped with a scoop of ice cream, and it was perfect -- warm, flavorful apples with just the right balance of sweetness and spice, and that crumble topping takes it to another level. Pairing it with hot apple cider made it even better, especially on a cool Julian day. Everything we tried was delicious and clearly made with care. There's usually a long line, but don't let that discourage you -- it moves pretty fast and is well organized. The only downside is the seating. It's a small space with only about six tables, so it can feel a bit tight. Still, the pie is absolutely worth it. Overall, one of the best spots in San Diego to enjoy a classic apple pie experience. Definitely a place we'll keep coming back to. read more
We went on a weekday so the line wasn't terrible. It was nice and cold in Julian and this place totally hit the spot. We got an apple berry slice and an apple cherry slice and they were both wonderful to help ward off the cold air. Despite being cold, it's imperative to get it à la mode and with their homemade delicious whipped cream. We also got a hot apple cider, which was very delicious and piping hot. Totally recommended on cold days there. The only downside here would be that their pies sell out fast because they're so good so make sure you keep an eye on the overhead menu board because things will literally sell out while you're in line. This place is great if you're in Julian, make sure you try it out. read more

Mom's Pie Shop is a beloved institution at Julian's Main Street. Line is typically out the door, and on weekends during Fall Apple season, the line can take close to 45-60 mins. There is a wide variety to choose from, ranging from apple, apple berry, apple cherry, bumbleberry, rhubarb strawberry, chocolate pecan and apple caramel crumb. Most come in flakey or crumb versions. You can take whole pies to go or just order a slice. Ala mode (scoop of ice cream) can be added for $2 more. Whole pies are $23.95-25.95 (as of October 2025). The pies are heavenly and "tastes like Fall"! Only complaints are the limited seating inside and long bathroom lines. read more
We come here to have our Brambleberry pie and ice cream and coffee and we usually buy a pie or two here and the service is good and the ambience is really nice and cool. It's about 69° in here which is very refreshing so come on in have a bite of pie and a coffee and enjoy relaxing and Julian on Main Street. read more
We have been coming here for years and years. They have the best pies around second to none. The service is always great and they are very accommodating even when it's extremely busy. The ambiance is perfect for what you get and gives you the small town mountain feel. read more

Long line and wait but definitely worth it! They have a large variety of pies which you can get by the slice or an entire pie. Seating is a bit hard as it is super busy but if you're willing to wait a bit something will open up. You can also get the pie to go and reheat at home. read more
Wow. The best pie can be found here! I waited about 30 minutes in line on a snowy day. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely!! The line moved slowly, but surely. I ordered 2 slices; apple berry crumble and apple crumble pie. Along with a blueberry muffin and a cup of real whipped cream. Everything was soooo good. I don't even like pastries or sweets like that -- but yo... Mom's Pie House knows what they're doing! I love how the pie is not overly sweet. It's naturally sweet. The crust is tasty too. I'd definitely come back for another slice or whole pie! The employees were busy, but delivered great customer service. I loved being greeted and personally handed my order after waiting. There's also fresh honey and other pastries available to order. There's a lot of seating inside which is nice. 10 out of 10 recommend Mom's Pie House. read more
This place never fails to deliver the best pie ever with a cute, quaint space to enjoy it in. The staff is always so friendly and greet you with a smile on their face. My favorite pie ever (that I even dream of sometimes) is the caramel apple crumb. Not only did I get a slice I ended up getting a whole pie of it too. My boyfriend got the strawberry rhubarb that was so fresh and a unique flavor plus he opted for cinnamon ice cream which was a great touch! This is definitely my favorite pie spot in julian. read more

Great pies right in the heart of downtown! Prepare yourself for challenging parking and a long line out the door at the pie shop (30-40min) on the weekend. But it's sure worth the wait! Seating can also be a little challenging inside since the seating is somewhat limited, especially on the weekends. Had the Apple Caramel Crumble topped with vanilla ice cream and loved every bite! read more

We went to Mom's Pie House on Main Street on our last day in Julian to have an apple dumpling each. To our disappointment they were already sold out. The cashier suggested that we try their other store in Wynola, just 6 minutes down the road. She even offered to call them to see if they still had some (great customer service!) Success! We hurried down to get them. We were so happy to still be able to get them. They were as delicious as we remembered. Dumplings $7.95 each. Ice Cream $2.00. Yum!!! read more

Are there pies that are safe for people with nut allergies?
Most of our pies do not contain nuts. All of the pies are made in the same kitchen, but we have practices in place to avoid cross contamination.
How does it feel to bake the best pies in Julian?

Yes! We open at 9am and will be open until 5pm or we sell out!
Which four would you recommend?
They are all delicious. If you like a sweeter pie, I would recommend the crumb crust over the flakey crust. The Bumbleberry is all berries if you want to take a break from apple or apple mixed with another fruit.
How do you cook one of their frozen pot pies?
The directions are printed inside the box for our big pot pies and should be on a sticker on the inside of the top of the box for a cutie size.…
Will thig place and other places open today(black Friday)?
They are most likely open on Black Friday. Best to call them or check their website. We went there on Thanksgiving Day a few years ago and surprisingly they were open. They did close early and only had one or two people working the cash register.
