I had already got quotes from Firestone and Pepboys - both averaging about over $600, and going by a dealership would probably be more than that so I was hoping that Jumbo Automotive wouldn't drain my pockets. I spoke to a friendly gentleman, Patrick, who was nice enough to find me three different brand tires for my vehicle, prices range from $400-$590. That includes price of tires, installation, balance, and alignment. No appointment was necessary. Once I make a small down payment; the tires will be ordered and when they arrive in a few days, I can bring in the vehicle to get the service done and pay the balance. Sounds reasonable. I had a battery installed somewhere else and immediately afterwards no AC and then other issues which made me think something was disconnected during install. I was referred to this place through Jacob's Garage, which in the past has done excellent mechanical work for my car; however, being an electromechanical problem, they recommended that I take the vehicle to Jumbo Automotive. I realized some connection because the owner, Hiam, appears to be from the same country as in Jacob's Garage. Jumbo's Automotive is a clean garage and certainly looks to have been in business for a long time. Unfortunately, I was treated by Miguel, who originally quoted me for approximately 5 hours of work, and later, the invoice came at $1,400 in labor. My only complaint is that they should have been more transparent with the # of hours and the approximate price; this was a shocker of a bill and unexpected. We were quoted $275 for the labor & alignment, which was $125 less than the big Truck Performance shop we went to prior so we decided to give Jumbo our business (my son has been saving for months). When the bill came that $275 jumped to nearly $400 with no explanation of why. Only after expressing our frustration were we given a $35 discount (still $80 more than expected. Way to take advantage of a kid who just got his first car. Also this "same day" repair took 3 days because the technician, Henry, had to leave for a personal emergency (understandable) & apparently nobody else could finish the job (?). I brought my car in for my battery to be checked, an oil change, & wheel alignment. I knew I needed new brake pads and as they looked at my car they called to confirm the need for brakes. I agreed to the verbal quote. When I pick up my car I was handed a bill for $200 dollars above the quote. I was given all sorts of stories and would not leave until they presented me with the bill they quoted me. I literally had to negotiate back to the original quote and then when asked where the 10% AAA discount was on the invoice I was told I did better with the "discount" I just negotiated. I insisted on understanding what he meant by that and after another story and simple math Diego went back to his computer to give me my 4th revised invoice. I will never use this shop again. From there they fixed the problem with the fuel system and also recommended a few other repairs. My truck is running better than new! When to get my van repaired, was told by another mechanic that it needed a new starter wire but when I took it in to jump they told me the wire was fine and needed a new starter and battery, which I replaced less than a year ago. But went ahead and paid $700 and had them both replaced. Not even a day later the van died while driving it down the road. And is puttering when I'm at a stop light and had the check engine light flashing at me. So I brought it back and they are saying it might be the fuel pump, which was also replace 6 months ago.
