We came here to watch the world cup game and it was a good time. They were so sweet and accommodating. We had birria sliders, chips and guacamole and my absolute favorite a pitcher of damita margarita! Light, refreshing with hibiscus and mezcal. Not too sweet or too strong, it was perfect! This is our second time - sat at the bar - super nice bartender. He told us about the new entree and showed us a pic! I mean - I love a pic - which is why I love Yelp!!! We ordered the new Sonora - it was delicious! My mojito was also great! Chips and salsa are typical but good - and he offered salsa verde a bit spicier! We ended up ordering the Churros - and they are filled with something but hot and great! With caramel and chocolate sauce! My wife and I visited Juncal Mexican Grill for dinner. We loved it. Mariana was our waitress and was wonderful, very friendly and helped us with our order. I had Steak Fajita and we had three appetizers. The wings were the best I ever had, we loved the Calamari. We also had the empanadas. See photos. The Ambiance could use some improvements. I love eating in cultural restaurants that make me feel like I'm in that country. Decor, music and dress really makes a difference. However, I give this a 5 out of 5 rating. New restaurant in Cumberland. It's small but has a bar, high top tables and a small dining room with tables and chairs. Service was on the slow side but food was great! Margarita is on the smaller side and soda is served by the bottles. Chips and salsa were brought over once seated - the tortilla chips were thin, crunchy and flavorful. Had dinner and drinks here and will definitely be back. This has quickly topped many other R.I. Mexican spots. We had the regular margaritas which I love are made authentic instead of with a sour mix. Also had a burrito and quesadilla which had great flavor - real cheese and the Al pastor had an amazing flavor. Mariana was our waitress, she was so sweet and attentive. The decor was also very cute in here. I've seen reviews citing this place to be expensive but honestly I think the price is in line with where it should be for such authentic Mexican cuisine. We will be back, and I hope this restaurant does well now and in the future. What a gem for northern R.I. read more

This place is new, and they're working out kinks. I can give them grace for that, but it looks like other reviewers here aren't willing to. That surprises me, and it's a shame. We had trouble catching them open b/c they've had staffing problems, they said, which may account for the complaints of cold food. That's something that can be fixed. We finally made it in on Mother's Day and had a great meal. We moved here from Texas almost 3 years ago and have sorely, painfully missed good Mexican food, specifically Tex-Mex. We've tried it all, and it's all pretty bad. But this is the real thing. The food was fresh and tasty, prepared correctly. It was really good. The margarita was also fresh--not made with a mix but with fresh limes--as God intended. This is the way Mexican food is *supposed* to taste. What y'all have been eating up here is not. I imagine it's really hard to run a decent restaurant in Cumberland b/c there are so very few really good places that you're excited to go. In fact, I can only think of one other. That's awful. I want Juncal to succeed b/c it's close, it's the best Mexican food we've found north of Oklahoma and they are trying really hard. I hope people will give them a chance to work out their staffing issues and support them for the uniquely quality product they're trying to deliver. read more

We came in just for a drink. Sat at the bar and got their spicy margarita. The atmosphere is definitely more inviting than the previous establishment in this location. Not so dark and musky anymore. It was like a $13 margarita though, which I think is a little much for Cumberland. You do get free chips and salsa. The salsa is probably too spicy for most people. Last night I visited Juncal Mexican grill and bar. I have driven by this beautiful location many times and was not aware of it! It definitely is hidden. Everyone was very friendly. The bartender was very helpful in helping pick our delicious food. I am a guacamole fan and theirs did not disappoint! I am very simple and went with steak tacos. The meat was cooked perfectly. I asked for the spiciest salsa and was given a green salsa.... Amazing! Being Mexican myself I would definitely recommend this place. Will be going back! read more

Placed a to go order for tacos & guacamole on Saturday. I ordered one of every taco and they were great. Best by far was the birria taco. OMG you need to try them! The dipping sauce it comes with is so good. Chips were warm and fresh and the guacamole was homemade and delicious! They just opened a few days ago so they are still ironing out a few things (phone wasn't up and running yet so I had to place an order to go in person/wait time was a little long) but I'm sure that will get sorted. The owner was very nice and pleasant. Inside it has a nice date vibe to it as far as ambiance. There was plenty of people there eating and enjoying themselves! Lots of parking available as well. The other reviews on here are harsh and not forgiving for a brand new restaurant working out their kinks. The street tacos and salad were good, well priced and came out quickly and hot. The margaritas were well made, strong and the waitress (plus others including manager/owner) were all very attentive throughout the night. A friend of mine told me that I *had* to try this place, and she was not wrong. The food here is incredible - fresh, flavorful, and authentic. We went for Taco Tuesday and I got a chicken and chorizo. They were perfect, and the sauce that came with it was delicious. For me, the real star was the Mexican street corn. I don't know how it seemed cheesy and buttery but not greasy - it was some kind of culinary magic - and the flavor...oh...my...goodness. We finished the meal with the churros which were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the inside with an amazing caramel (and chocolate) sauce. We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted with warm chips and salsa. The bartender was attentive, but not overbearing. Whatever kinks they had in the first weeks are behind them, and the restaurant seems to function seamlessly. I would wholeheartedly recommend Juncal for a memorable, authentic Mexican meal. Menu is very small. No free refills on fountain soda which is a pet peeve for my husband. Sat at the bar and was ignored for 20 mins before being addressed and the place wasn't busy at all and there were plenty of employees. The ambiance is nice and I liked the plates that they used (wooden boards) although I am not sure how long they will last in a dishwasher. Margarita was ok but not great and small for the price. First off, I've never been a fan of the interior of this place. Sort of feels like someone's basement with the drywall and the drop ceiling. We were also sat in the back corner near the restroom, so it smelled like a urinal the whole dinner. Drinks took forever, calamari was garbage, and the food was dry as hell. I get that it's still early in this restaurant's life, but you can tell it's not going to last very long unless they get their stuff together. Waitress didn't know the menu, and the beers were flat. Very disappointing. The margaritas were small and expensive. I got the carnitas tacos, which were cold and dry. My son got steak tacos which I guess come with a $3 dollar up charge making them 7.50 a piece. The amount of steak in each taco was laughable.
