It was awesome. Clearly freshly made. Streaming hot filling, nice light crust. * Camarones Borrachos - Sauteed shrimp with brandy and spices, served with a side of sliced baguette. It was just ok. This dish lacked the intense flavors and punch I was expecting. * Pollo a Mojo de Ajo - Roasted chicken thigh with an herb citrus garlic sauce, and a side of Cuban rice & beans. This one hit it out of the park. Chicken thigh was deboned and sliced, perfectly grilled with crispy skin, awesome flavors... all for $17... great value. * Pisto Manchego - Grilled veggies with manchego & topped with Sunnyside up fried egg. This was a good veggie share plate reminiscent of a French Ratatouille. Service was friendly & attentive. Simply decorated interior dining space. This place is a cute intimate restaurant that was suggested by our uber driver. The service was so good that the chefs wife gave us a glass of wine in the house. The food was fantastic and I have to say it was the first time we ever ordered something twice because we couldn't get enough of it. The paella was delicious but the spanish oxtail was out of this world, so tender and mouthwatering. I still think about that oxtail from time to time. If you do visit, you need to try the oxtail for sure. read more

If I could give Junction 10 stars out of 5, I would. The vegetarian paella was perfection, the parrillada was rich and flavorful, and the mussels in saffron broth were absolutely divine. Then came the chimichurri -- the best I've ever had in my life, and we've had a lot of it over the years on expertly cooked meats. Bright, tangy, fresh and perfectly balanced. We were in Spain recently so the bar was high for the paella and I must say they did a pretty good job! The portions are a bit small for the price (paella says 2 servings but I'd argue it's one hearty serving). Junction Tapas hit it out of the park. We began with the mushroom Gruyère empanadas followed by the Octopus Duo which so very tender, the Shrimp Borraches and the Seafood Paella. For dessert we ordered the Tarta de Limon. The Sangria was absolutely wonderful. Took us back to our visit to Barcelona! This hidden gem is a MUST visit. My husband and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night while we were visiting Paso Robles for Mother's Day weekend. I'd made a reservation not long before we came, at most, one week before our reservation date. We came to the restaurant a little earlier than our reservation time and were seated immediately. It was 5 pm on a Saturday night, and we were one of the few groups that wanted to dine so early, all the others were senior citizens. We only ordered three dishes to share between us. Did you know that Junction Paso at the Train Station has BRUNCH on weekends? A dear friend of mine and I went this Saturday to celebrate our June Birthdays and we were treated with such SPECIAL care. Nick and Ingrid (owners) gave us a fabulous Huevos Rancheros (me) and the amazing flat iron steak sandwich ... plus we toasted with a Sangria Sparkling Brut with yummy fruit floating...and then... a birthday dessert! When the politeness of the hostess is the highlight of the evening there is definitely something to wrong with the business model. Promising authentic Spanish tapas but delivering anything but. While pintxos are purposefully small, they tend to be affordable as well. Here we received 4 pieces of mediocre bread -- probably the most authentic thing about the meal, with the inedible parts of mushrooms as a build it yourself style Pintxo. The empanadas were so greasy they were barely edible, the vegetables with manchego and a fried egg is basically ratatouille and was lukewarm. And the seafood paella was EXTREMELY small for $56 with very SMALL shrimp and muscles, a very fishy piece of fish and a few calamari rings. The paella was mushy and not crisp on the bottom as is traditional. I could have eaten the entire paella myself along with the appetizers and not felt full. The paella serves ONE at best. Not two. The decor is ok, nothing special. The service was fine. But, I don't want to pay $185 for a mediocre meal and leave hungry. Won't be going back not worthy of photos. read more

I absolutely love tapas places. And when I read that this was family owned and run...I knew we had to check it out. I had called the day before to request being seated indoors even though I had reserved outdoors because of the weather (extreme heat warning - and it was 93° at 7pm the night before). But when we arrived, the hostess (and owner - Ingrid) showed us our choices so we could pick where to sit. We chose outside. The inside was full, and felt very loud. The outside has a view of the train tracks and we could hear nearby live music -- the weather was a lovely 73°. Ok, on to the food. Sangria was a bit too sweet. Tasty- but one is plenty unless you want a sugar high! Ground beef empanadas -- loved that the shell was not super doughy. The ground beef was well seasoned and the sauce seemed to be like a chipotle aioli which went well. When I asked them what the sauce was- they said it was brava sauce but I didn't get any other information about what was in it. The lamb lollipops were flawlessly cooked. Tender, juicy and well seasoned. The arugula salad seemed not to go as well with it. It had big chunks of tomato and while I love me a good arugula, I think if this had had shaved parmesan and something less citrusy as a dressing it would have served better. The pisto manchego was the star of the meal for us...we wanted to eat the sauce with a spoon. The vegetables were perfectly cooked with the right amount of bite (what's al dente for veges?) - we wished this had come with some grilled baguette slices - which we saw was an accompaniment to some other dishes -- it was a shame not to be able to mop every last bit of this sauce up. The Presa Ibérica was impressive. I'm not sure I've ever eaten medium rare pork. It's not usually a meat eaten any other way but fully cooked - but they know their pork and they know how to cook it to perfection. The salad of beets, apples, and arugula was delicious and complimented the meat well. This dish was supposed to come with a chimichurri aioli -- sadly ours didn't come with any and we didn't realize it till later. Service was a little off. The server took our order -- we started out well- but then midway through they couldn't seem to find our table and what we'd ordered in their handheld devices - so she had to rely on us to repeat back what we ordered so she could charge us correctly for it. At one point when we asked for some info on the wine, she said she didn't know much about wine because she didn't drink any-- so when I asked her if she could send someone who did know about wine she just offered to get us a sample of the wine we were asking about- luckily for her it was tasty and we settled for a full glass. As she gave us the check - she says 'you guys did really well- normally people spend a lot more money.' Umm-- not sure what to make of that. All in all a delicious meal. This is a cute little spot in an old train station in Paso. We stopped there on the way home, hoping to get some tapas. Since it was lunchtime, they do not serve tapas. But the upside is we still got very delicious food for lunch. The service was great, we had our puppy and they brought water out for her without us asking. We ordered the paella, the Junction special, we were warned that it would take about 30 minutes so it was a wait. We were served in good fashion and attentive service. The ambiance feels like dining in your living room, since we were seated on a sofa. We did not try any wine since we were driving back home. The "paella"......more like chicken and rice with vegetables. Burned rice, was missing the required saffron, greasy. Chicken burned and needed salt. Sorry but we did not like it. A wonderful Spanish tapas spot! Felt like a homey-small town environment with friendly staff. Food was amazing, here's the ratings. Presa Iberico (4/5): highly flavorful and well cooked pork. I loved the arugula salad and fig--it added so much depth to the dish. Camarones Borrachos (3/5): perfectly cooked shrimp at the ideal consistency. I just wish the gravy had more flavor. Venison Kebabs (5/5): I didn't expect venison to be this tender and juicy, but it was impressively cooked. Taste and spices were great, complemented with the rich mashed potatoes. Lamb Meatballs (5/5): delightfully tender and bursting with flavor. I'm still thinking about how good these were. Chocolate Olive Oil Cake (4/5): I have never liked chocolate cake, so it's completely unexpected that I would rate this so high. It was the most moist chocolate cake I've had. Paired with the ice cream it was a lovely end to our dinner. Highly recommend stopping here if in Paso Robles! And especially a fantastic spot if you wanted to eat a lighter meal since it's tapas style. 5th Star for the service and attention provided by Owners and staff- Here is my story. We flew 2500+ miles and drove 300 miles for my girlfriend's annual birthday weekend getaway. She chose Paso Robles and Junction Restaurant became our first complete meal in the city of Paso Robles. First the food- excellent Spanish flair. Of the many dishes we ordered, the Empanada comes to mind. The wrapping was flawless (a bit too thick for me) but flawless none the less. It is baked, not deep fried. The stuffing tasted good on both the chicken and the beef. Second- the location is not on the main drag, somewhat off the path or removed from the downtown Paso action BUT it was not hard to find and the facility is clean. Third is wine selection as we were lucky to try a great bottle of wine for a simply economical price; only to learn the liquor purveyor informed the Proprietors the price will be going up because of its popularity.... go figure Definite repeat if I'm in the area read more

We ordered the jamon, spanish cheese (Mahon (3month), Manchego, Valdeon), duo de pulpo, and the iberican pork dish which i can't seem to find the name of. * jamon: good overall, dry and salty and flavorful * the cheese: the manchego was by far our favorite, the valdeon was very salty but paired with the honey and hazelnuts was good. the mahon with the dried apricots wasn't bad but wasn't also amazing. * duo de pulpo: flavorful, tender, not over cooked and just what i was looking for from an iberican tapas octopus * the iberican pork dish: super tender, protein forward, delicious, not overly salty. the grilled fig was a pleasant surprise and the arugula was also very good. this was dinner #1 of my 10 yr anniversary with my wife and it knocked it out of the park. Disappointed by the Paella -- A Missed Opportunity I've been looking forward to Junction's paella--especially after reading about the chef's dedication to cooking it to order with saffron stock and carefully simmered ingredients. Sadly, my recent visit fell short of those expectations. The chicken was burned, and the rice was overcooked and greasy. Even the green beans and red pepper tasted bland, missing a simple seasoning of salt. On a positive note, the ambiance was inviting and I appreciated the charm of the train depot setting. Other reviews highlight delicious vegetarian paella and friendly service which makes this misstep feel all the more disappointing. I hope this was an anomaly and not the norm. Stumbled upon this place while in town and it was a GEM! Everything was excellent. My boyfriend and I ordered the Cubano empanadas, octopus trio, steamed clams, and pasta paella and it was all delicious! The empanadas were baked to perfection and served with an aioli made of pickles or relish? CHEF'S KISS. The octopus was good, although I was not too much of a fan of the potato and pulpo. The grilled bit was cooked just right (not overdone) and the "ceviche" had a very refreshing tang to it. The steamed clams were a bit on the salty side but still enjoyable. And the pasta paella was a heaven send! All the flavor of a traditional paella but with a light pasta?? Sign me up! My bf and I split the meat and cheese board ($27), lamb lollipops ($25), camarones borrachos ($18), albóndigas en pimentón ($15), and the Moroccan chicken empanadas ($15). My favorite was the lamb lollipops! These were so tender, juicy, and flavorful! My second favorite was the Moroccan chicken empanadas. The inside had a unique blend of spices. What a wonderful find! A welcoming and comfortable wine bar atmosphere with options for bar or table seating. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful and a very generous portion. The chicken empanadas were amazing-- four good-sized empanadas (took two home). The orange olive oil cake was the perfect finish! You can tell this restaurant cares about good ingredients and fresh, well-prepared food that pairs well with wine. The owner was friendly and fun to chat with, the local wine list is well-curated, and the overall experience was just lovely. Probably one of the best meals I've had in Paso after coming here 2-3 times per year for the last few years. We had the pan con tomate with jamon, the empanadas, the octopus two ways, and the iberico pork. Everything was delicious and well cooked, I only wish the pan con tomate had more tomate.
