This place has gone way downhill... First off, the food quality is not good. The prep and cooking is even worse. Their veggie sausages (gimme lean brand) are awful. The potatoes are terrible. A smashed patty: burned on the outside and undercooked on the inside. And the party of four that got seated before my party of two?... They weren't even around the entire 45 mins we waited for a table. The were treated like a royal family and it became obvious that they were friends with someone who worked there. Which is total bullsh*t. And finally, the awful sounding stereo/speaker setup: the sound was beyond shrill. When you bast your music to obviously entertain your staff (partially deaf, burnout hipster musician-by-night, S.I.-worker-by-day), and EQ the sound so that the high frequencies are boosted, you have a recipe for audio disaster. Or is it a plan to turn tables over faster? Is that why your "fiends" that got seated before us got to sit in the only hospitable booth (beneath your shitty sounding speakers where they are spared the offensive, awful sound)? I'm just speculating, but does the name "Juniors" mean small portions? Just sayin'. But it's all good - I find it satisfying to have breakfast and afterwards not feel stuffed and wanting to fall back into bed. And is Juniors the soul brother of Dot's Cafe? Meaning, the 1960's wall pattern and chain lights in both establishments are identical. :-) Service was the best part of our experience at Juniors - efficient, friendly and bubbly. We were seated after a very brief wait. JP ordered a Texas scramble. Next time we come here, I'm going to get that. Made with chorizo, cheese and garnished with sliced scallion, it was delicious! I ordered an egg and potato dish with whole wheat toast. I also requested a side of pork loin. The best part of my meal was the toast. Really really good. Kudos for the tasty blackberry jam. The toast seemed a lot like Strong's bread, which they serve (and hype!) at Cameo Cafe in Northeast. The potatoes had a nice blend of soft and crispy textures. But the paprika flavoring did not titillate me. JP and I each had a pear tart for dessert with a glass of milk. The spices and flavor were excellent, but I found the tart a tad dry. The space: Junior's is a small and awesome breakfast joint. It only has 8 booths and one two top window seat so there is usually a wait on weekends but it's totally worth it. Got here around 1 on a Saturday and there were 4 tables ahead of us - we were seated within about 40 min. What we got: I got the black pepper, Brie and honey omelet, add spinach with sourdough toast ($12). It was AMAZING. One of the best omelets I've ever had. Last visit here I ordered the country scramble ($10) and would highly recommend that as well. My vegan boyfriend got the vegan covered wagon, add tofu and wheat toast ($13.50). He loved it and was so full after he literally had to take a nap. The visit before he got the vegan French toast breakfast ($12) with tofu scramble and vegan sausage and it was delicious. We always get a slice of French toast or two to share - I cover it in their marion berry jam and syrup. It's bomb! They have a great drink menu as well - their spicy Bloody Mary is fantastic. Overall: Great food, large portions, good vibe. This is a great place to come if you are with a vegan diner but want traditional breakfast options for non vegans - they do both fantastically. read more

Fear not the "vegetarian" label fellow omnivores (bears, humans, bonobos); this place has meat too...and very tasty meat at that. I've been waiting to go back for a second opinion before I fired off a review for this place. The service I had the first time was very sub-par, while the food was pretty great. (French toast with a hearty mound of fresh fruit on it, so the vegetarian options are tasty too...they also have "vegan" French toast which I cannot comment on). Well, I went back and service was much improved while the food was still top-notch. I got the special which was a breakfast sandwich consisting of: Scrambled egg Bacon (which, btw, was some of the best bacon I've never had...nice and thick with lots of "red" and not a whole lot of "white") Cream cheese Jalapeños YEAH, with ingredients like these it's pretty much impossible to go wrong and this was a very very tasty sandwich. It set me back about $8.50 and came with some breakfast potatoes, not bad at all. Yet somehow my tab came out to be....$11.50?! What in the hell? After conversing with the waiter, turns out it was because of...COFFEE. This brings me to the two main negatives of this place: 1)The coffee is spendy. The waitress made an honest recovery effort by telling me it was "organic". I thought (assumed?) that almost all Portland roasters were organic but...I just care if it tastes good, I could give two craps if it carries some marginal government specification that's incredibly easy to loop-hole your way around if you have enough money. Ok, enough of that. 2)There is a 50 cent service charge for credit cards. I have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand I'm glad this place isn't cash only...or worse: cash only with no posted signs and a conveniently-placed gang-raping back-door/curb-side ATM. On the other, I'm pretty sure service charges are illegal per the Visa merchant agreement (sorry for being that guy/kid/tattle-tale)...and there was nothing posted anywhere to indicate getting dinged two quarters for using a credit card. It's not a service charge so you don't just buy a coffee and nothing else with a CC either...it's levied no matter what. read more

Let's start out with the good stuff, the food. It was fresh and delicious and once you order the wait time is minimal for a small breakfast joint. My sister and I both had the Wrangling Roys which I would recommend. The gluten free toast was ok as long as you dont eat the crust. The crust leaves an odd and unpleasant taste in your mouth. Thankfully the jam was delicious and covered it up, for the most part. Second, the decor was cute and odd in a comforting sort of way. Now, to the not so good stuff...when my sister and I walked up and put our name on the list, there were two people ahead of us, both two tops. There were two tables and then a third that had not been cleared off yet and lay empty. So, I thought, no biggy, wont be a long wait at all. Yeah, I was wrong. I know this is a small place with only two wait staff, but clear the tables and at least sit people so they can feel like they are welcome. One table sat empty for about 40 minutes, the whole time we were waiting to be sat. Made me extremely frustrated. Then, when the waitress finally calls our name, she asks if we would mind being sat with another patron that we do not know. Now, family style seating, fine, I get it, but making us wait 40 minutes then telling us we had to sit with some stranger when no one else had to deal with that. No, just not cool. The waitress that sat us was not super pleasant and sat down a few times to chat with I can only imagine were friends of hers. All the while the other waitress was serving and busing. Overall, the food was good, but due to the way they dealt with the seating of people, I wont go back nor will I recommend this place to any of my friends. Juniors is a great place to get a fantastic breakfast meal. Your mug is always brimming with their delicious coffee. And they have fun sauces like Aardvark Hot Sauce, made and bottled right in Portland. Ordered the special of the day: Kick Ash French toast, gluten free, with two eggs over easy. Kick Ash, a take on their Kick Ass French toast, has Nutella with bananas and crumbled bacon. The addition of maple syrup makes this an ultimate breakfast dessert meal. Hey, I got to eggs to even out the carb/sugar shock! And yes, it was so decadent I couldn't finish it. Junior's is quite a cute little place. I was quite surprised. It has a 50's diner feel to it and I'm surprised I had never sought out this place sooner. It was a Sunday morning and Sue took me out for breakfast. We thought about going to a place on Division, but she didn't know the name of the place and couldn't seem to find it on an IPhone search. She mentioned Junior's and I was game as I had never been. Your usual scrambles, breakfast sandwiches and omelet's dominate the breakfast menu here. Some interesting combinations on the regular menu, but I decided to go with the special of the day which was a spinach - shelled omelete with portobello mushrooms, garlic, herbs, asparagus and swiss ($9.50). If you see this as a special, get it. I'm not a vegetarian at all, but I sometimes feel like I don't need to eat meat at every meal. That was a big reason why I went with this dish. I also love me some asparagus, so seeing that in this omelet didn't hurt. This was very nice breakfast. Felt clean to me. Good way to start the day. Service was very friendly. Service was great. Food was good. But what really ruined it for me was the infestation of fruit flies. I was excited to come here but when we were sat, the slimy, slippery floors were the first red flag. The type of slimy when grease has built up and is mixed with water. Once we sat I noticed the constant buzzing of fruit flies and then noticed the probably hundreds of flies stuck on the wallpaper. By the time I received my food I had lost my appetite and had to be careful that I wasn't eating flies with each bite of food. It's a shame and I'm surprised they haven't been reported to the people that inspect restaurants for cleanliness yet. Early for check-in to my Air BnB, I let out a huge sigh of relief to see Juniors up the road. Not only was it starting to rain, I was in need of a bathroom. And soon after, as the rain continued to fall, I took my first bite of Portlandia in a casual, 50's-inspired diner (if those walls could talk!) with a confidence that said "we don't need to be the flashiest fit-out to know we bring the goods to the table." Perhaps it was the lack of sleep (about 24 hours worth) after travelling from Brisbane, but the coffee I needed was not the coffee I got at Juniors. Lost in translation, I discovered this was diner coffee. It was fine, but not outstanding. But coffee is hardly what you'd visit Juniors for. You visit Juniors for great food and cocktails. The B&B Burger (brie and bacon on a brioche bun) was light yet filling and cooked perfectly. It was the home-style cooking I needed. And as much as I cannot yet come at the idea of crisps with my lunch, I relished the side salad after a flight diet severely lacking that option. read more

My dietary guidelines have changed, so for the next 6 months I will be eating a low-oil, vegan diet for health reasons. As for how this will impact my Yelping, it means my weekly Sunday breakfast with my son will no longer feature hot chocolate with whipped cream and lots of high fat but delicious breakfast foods. Hence the visit to Juniors Cafe, which had been on my list to try, anyway, but moved to the top for this visit. Since I wouldn't want my son to be forced to follow my dietary guidelines, we mostly won't be splitting 2 dishes. I ordered the Vegan French Toast and he had a scramble. He seemed to like what he had...he said the eggs were creamy and very good. As for the Vegan French Toast, it was made with whole grain bread, sliced thinly enough that it soaked up the egg-like mixture, and it was very good. My son tried it, too, and pronounced it 'really good'. The server was prompt, full of good info and ideas, and all-around great. The surroundings were very diner-like (old school) and comfortable. Not junky at all. The GPS in the car had trouble picking it out and we had to backtrack a couple of blocks. The outside markings must have been too subtle for us. My husband found his ham and caramelized onion omelette, to which he added goat cheese, absolutely delicious. He also had a Rococo Cocoa... a mixed cocoa/liqueur drink that was a fun eye-opener. The windows up front are covered in a nice film of grease as well, which was not the case several months ago. After a quick breakfast, our clothes reeked even after a windows-down blast up the interstate. The service was friendly, a bit of a wait as expected but the food came fast and correct. Maybe they make it smokey so people don't linger long? Maybe the owner doesnt realize there's something wrong with the air system. Whatever the case, think twice about juniors if you have respiratory problems or issue with smoke. My sweetheart and I tried the vegan French Toast here for the first time this morning and it was delicious. Very close to the real thing. Served with some surprisingly tasty tofu, colored yellow to imitate eggs, and a fake sausage patty. The portion size was somewhat small for this type of establishment, but luckily we got a side of "spuds" as well and shared it all. Just the right amount of food for 2 when you have to ride bikes back across the bridge to downtown after. Highly recommend this breakfast spot to any vegan or anyone else for that matter. read more

Good food, cute place, and not a very long wait. This little restaurant is located in a super cute neighborhood. Everyone at the table got something different and the Mimosa and Bloody Mary's came in a great size, a filled Ball Jar. They have egg scrambles, some classic favorites, and specials of the day. Each plate is about $10.00. I really like the seasonings and parings they use. For example, the gravy on my biscuits and gravy had a little maple sweetness to it instead of just a standard pork or sausage gravy. read more

The Food was just Okay. Honestly, I feel like I could have made a better meal at home. I ordered the 'The Vegan' and it felt like someone just piled food on top of food with no attention to the flavor of each item. The Twice baked potatoes were tough to cut in half and they weren't small so that was annoying. I had a taste of my Husband's French toast and I couldn't finish the second bite because the Toast was burnt to a crisp underneath. Ultimately I doused my meal in Hot sauce for flavor and still didn't finish. Side Note: The waitress we had when we were first seated lacked any type of customer service. We have been to Junior's for breakfast a few times. We're always trying to find places to feed our veggie visitors. This isn't a bad one.They do lots of vegan/vegetarian pretty well. ( although my veggie brother got more happy over at Jam). It does get crowded. There is challenging parking. Don't take a large group, it will be harder to get seated. The coffee is good. The toast is fine. I like the scrambles and potatoes. The jam made kiddo happy. I think it's a little bit full of itself, at least they seem to think they're more awesome than we actually found them to be, if that made any sense. Some of my favorite places don't know they're awesome ( like Tosis, for example). I guess I don't particularly want breakfast to be fancy, just filling and comforting with copious amounts of caffeine. That said, lots of people like this place, maybe you will too. read more

Pretty disappointing today! This is one of my favourite brunch spots in Portland but I recently moved to the north side of town so haven't been able to frequent it as often as i like. So i decided to treat myself today to an old time favourite! Unfortunately i didn't even get to enjoy it after making the trek across town. I walked in at 1:52pm, only to be told they were closed for the day? The establishment closes at 3pm and it wasn't even 2 yet and i watched them turn down my fiancé and i and another party that had just arrived. We weren't even offered a reason. The door was wide open, other guests were dining and they just didn't want to serve new guests apparently. Beyond disappointed, and now feeling unsure to ever return. :( read more

First time here and I am very pleased with the food and the service. Their house made bloody Mary's are spicy and flavorful. The gluten free bread tastes like real bread and their specials are current with the times. For example they have a special for Super Bowl week wend with a Denver omelet or Seattle scramble. I saw an oatmeal expertly crafted with fruit on top to make the face of a bird. Not a lot of seating so if you want quick service and not to wait come around 8am. Like many of the other reviewers stated it does get loud in here and it is COLD, so being a sweatshirt or jacket. Happy. Cup coffee is served here which is nice and smooth. read more
