So Juniors for NYers is a staple. It's an iconic diner that all rave about. The vibe is vintage but still clean, we got seated pretty quickly as it was not overly full. We were a large party. Now if your looking for a quick cheap mean eeeh it's gonna be a bit hard to find that here unless you stick to a basic salad or deli sandwich. It will run you about 30-50 a person here. I had the something different which was a brisket sandwich on potato pancakes. It was humungous and I definitely had food for 2 meals after that. They give you some pickles and pickles beats I think for the table. Some people got the max and cheese it was lack luster. The table shared some French toast which were good. If there ever is an instance where a restaurant, top to bottom, is overrated, look no further. Junior's in Downtown Brooklyn is the poster child for said restaurants. Essentially, it is an overpriced diner that happens to make exceptional dessert, all by robbing you of your dignity and personal restraint in the process. As for the food items, maybe the breakfast menu is what you are supposed to get here. I ordered the pastrami and corned beef combo, and neither one totally impressed me. The corned beef is too dry, and the pastrami is too wet and salty. They serve complementary pickles, beets, and coleslaw, but the complementary coleslaw is too vinegary to really enjoy. There is also deli mustard you can put on your food, and it is good. However, there is a rule concerning sauces and condiments in relation to food. I have said this before and I will say it again. Good food should taste good on its own merit, it should never taste good because of a sauce. As for the desserts, this is where Junior's shines. The cheesecake is terrific and plentiful and the milkshake I got is creamy, original, and like the cheesecake, plentiful. Good thing I ordered both. Take your time with these because if you rush it, you will be spending more time in the bathroom than at your own table. While it is a short walk from Dekalb Ave on the B/Q/R trains, walk this off to avoid a food coma sitting in once you are done. Next time I will shoot for a breakfast and call it a day. read more

We came here after a Nets game. The place was packed but also very spacious. We were able to get seated right away. But unfortunately, that was the only thing that was fast that evening. It took a while for someone to place our order. I ordered their pastrami sandwich, and once it was served, no one ever came back to check up on or or refill our water. The pastrami sandwich wasn't great either. The pastrami tasted old. It was hard and had no flavor. We wanted to order their New Yorker Cake Shake and felt like leaving, but I'll be honest I wasn't going anywhere without trying it out. This was actually a little better and a decent way to end the evening. I just wish they could have given us plates so we could put the cheesecake on a plate and split it that way. A must see attraction when visiting Brooklyn! I heard about this spot forever and I finally firsthand walked through the doors for myself. The restaurant has a prime spot and located on the corner. I strictly came for a pice of the famous cheese. The variety in selection did not disappoint. I opted for the more traditional strawberry cheesecake. The portion was worth the $9.75 price. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. I would have preferred a denser crust over the dense custard. Also the strawberry glaze was a little too much and overpowering for my liking. I came here after 9am today, on a Saturday, and was served by Julia. I came to see what the hype was about in this 1950s- diner style restaurant. I see their cheesecake in just about every supermarket I shop , and I was informed by Brooklyn-reared Yelpers like Lawrence C that the flavor changes during shipment. Julia told me that the strawberry cheesecake is a customer favorite. So I ordered it. It was good, but it was made with a light graham cracker crust. I prefer cheesecakes made with a darker and denser graham cracker crust, like the one that The Chowder Bar in Bay Shore uses for their insanely delicious Key Lime pie. I also ordered a cup of cheese grits. Julia said that it was made with milk, but it tasted bland and soupy, so she took it off my check. The turkey bacon was good. The Bloody Mary was okay, but I have had better. The cost of my meal was $24.44. Not bad! I recommend all New Yorkers try this landmark at least once, just to see what it is all about. read more

This place is as old-school NYC as it gets. Their cheesecake is just as good now as it was since they opened this spot in 1950. I love the old school retro-vibe from the outside neon signage to the inside booths and tables, to the pictures of famous people and sports stars who have visited this cheesecake institution. The times we have dropped in were just to satisfy our sweet tooth with some delicious cheesecake and hot coffee. It comes on a sponge cake base, that sponge cake supremely soft and light texture pairing very well with the cheesecake batter that seems to have been whipped and aerated until its a cloud of cream-cheese, sugar, and cream. It started as a joke by me repeatedly telling my son "Daddy loves peanut butter cheesecake", something I've never had before. He told my wife and for Fathers Day she ended up mail ordering this cheesecake from Juniors since she thought I would want something considered to be the best. It came in 2 day shipping, you can tell they have a lot of business because everything was "juniors" branded from the shipping box to the ice pack and styrofoam tray. I do prefer my traditional graham cracker crust and wasn't blown away with the first bite. But I kept eating it and thinking how soft it was. Nostalgia from the days I used to stop in for breakfast when I picked my mom up from her overnight shift. It's been over 30 years since I have been in here. The strawberry cheesecake is still da bomb (no picture as I inhaled it after lunch) and the food was good. My mom wanted fish and chips and it was really crispy, not oily. I wanted matzoh ball soup as I'm the ultimate Brooklyn girl who loves having Jewish penicillin. Overall, the place still has the same vibes it did way back when and it didn't disappoint. Visited NYC for the holiday, and Junior's was our Thanksgiving dinner. They did have a special Thanksgiving menu complete with turkey, stuffing, potatoes, and greens, but we opted for burgers. Haha Burger is THICK. My guess is 3/4 pounds of meat. First impression: tasty! Second impression: The bun is way too thin for this massive burger. It falls apart. I've been ordering from Juniors on Uber eats for quite a while, and made the hike over with my daughter to try dining in for the first time on a cold Sunday after playing in fort Greene park. I have to say, I wish I'd just stuck to ordering delivery. The hostesses were super nice, but that was the end of the positive vibe once we were seated. My waiter acted like I was putting him out for ordering food. He was wearing a mask and it was busy so I had a hard time hearing him. He had a really bad attitude from the start and it really sucked because I just wanted to have a nice dad daughter lunch date and we are super easy. I ordered fries and a cup of soup to start, and everything came almost instantly. I then asked if I could order lunch items to go, it had just turned 11am and I only had a breakfast menu, so when I asked he looked at his watch and up at the clock and said maybe. I said forget it, we'll just order from the counter on our way out. I didn't want to tip him for everything given how crappy his service was. No water refills, didn't bring over the lunch menu when I wanted to order $60 more food. I was done with dealing with him so just requested the check and went to the counter to order. When I went to the counter, I found out on weekends the menu changes and the value items like 1/2 soup and sandwich were not available. I ended up getting full sandwiches and soups, asked for coleslaw and Russian dressings (which I paid extra for) to be added and was assured they'd be in the bag. They weren't. Had to turn around and ask again. Everyone just seemed like they were mad I was there and ordering food. It was a crap experience and I spent over $75 total. The food is all below average (matzo balls seemed old, corned beef sandwich portions small, fries undercooked buffalo wings sauce is strange) and everyone's bad attitudes just made for a bad Sunday lunch. I won't be dining in again. Really disappointing because I was hoping to be able to come here with the whole fam. read more

Since I was already in Brooklyn and some odd minutes away from here, I couldn't head up home without visiting Junior's on Flatbush Ave. I mean... I couldn't have. I've always been a dedicated fan of Junior's devilishly good Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake because they pull out all the stops with the super cocoaey and light-as-air chocolate mousse filling. And whenever I was in the city, I'd always made it a point to head to Junior's at the Grand Central Terminal and bring a Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake slice home for it's because delectable and superior taste. But that was ages ago- as that Junior's location closed in '16. This place comes with a story- which I'm not getting into but there's a myriad of cheesecake flavors to pick from. Take out area here has 2 counters facing each other with rows of whole cheesecakes, prepackaged slices and an overhead food menu. And if you want to enjoy your bites, counter sitting and dining room are open during COVID. Regardless of the average rating, Junior's has always taken Cheesecake by storm! All I wanted was that chocolate mousse cheesecake the way I remember it but they were all gone- so picked out a Chocolate Cake+ Cheesecake. Slice size hasn't changed but price obviously has and taste of the cheesecake was a bit off- but the chocolate cake and thick ganachey filling was definitely rich and super moist. Recently l intended to order takeout. I stood and waited for over 15 minutes for someone to assist me. There were no other customers waiting to be served besides me. I was totally ignored. A guy who works at the takeout section saw me standing there, but he was too busy chatting with another worker to assist me. Finally another worker took my order. Had been to Juniors 15 years ago. Went with the extended family for a big dinner. Wasn't as busy as expected for a Saturday night and they had our table for 13. Kris, our waitress, was phenomenal. 35 years ago the Brisket and Pastrami were our go-to deli sandwiches. I can't review that as we only came by for a nostalgic piece of strawberry cheesecake after a Nets game. Just like I remembered...not as light and fluffy as a Cheesecake Factory cheesecake but still as good as I remembered.
