Cheesecake. Brooklyn-born and raised here, so it has been ingrained in my mind that Junior's is the original NY Cheesecake, and for good reason. While it probably will clog your arteries and make you die of betes eventually, it's worth it while the dense caloric dessert lasts. Junior's Cheesecake is a gem from the time before we fell prey to the gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, flavour-free trends, but oh well, that just means shorter lines for me. We came here on a warm Friday winter evening and surprisingly were seated immediately for two groups of 10. The place really gives you that NY/NJ diner feel with all of the old-school memorabilia, but at the same time, I felt like the booths were crusted with half a decade's worth of crusted fountain soda. Our party had two steak burgers, a bunch of shakes and something terrifying sweet called the "cookie monster", and a slice of the original Cheesecake. The consensus from the group was that the food was meh, but the cheesecake was the bomb diggity. Was the experience worth $16 for a mediocre burger? Probably not. Would we come back for the vanilla shakes? Fat chance. Did I enjoy my chesecake? Hell yeah. I think the secret to Junior's is to stay for the cake, but avoid any of the tourist-trappings of actually consuming food here. read more

This landmark has had such a decline in quality of food & service that it may not be around 5-8 years from now. That would be unfortunate as I'm sure many shared memorable meals here. Owners must act ASAP or places closer to Barclay's Center like Shake Shack will be what this area is known for & not Junior's. As is, if you've already been here in the past skip this. 1. Owner/Manager running this diner decided to close onsite bakery where their delicious cheesecakes were made fresh daily. So now, guests get desserts baked in NJ. SMH on this! 2. They raised prices of their cheesecakes to amounts more expensive then supermarkets ($8.50 per single slice or single mini for $6). 3. They removed their delicious cornbread from the menu. This was an unsung staple that they offered complimentary. Now they give you roll of bread, canned beets & a miserable slaw. 4. No Host/Manager to greet & welcome you in at least when we went last night after going to Barclay's Center for Disney on Ice. 5. The burgers we ordered well done came out hard as ever & did not taste fresh as though patties were premade & refrigerated days prior. To add to insult they charged $17 for a kids burger with nothing on it. If you're craving a burger do yourself a favor & go to Shake Shack, McDonalds, Burger King or Wendy's in the area - they all make better burgers. read more

I've been eating at juniors all my life but I recently had the most pleasant experience with the manager! Dom is absolutely amazing and was sooo helpful. I ordered on uber eats and there was a problem with my delivery. I ordered carrot cheese cake and received a regular carrot cake. I called to ask if there was a mistake or if maybe the cheesecake was out. Dom was so helpful he assisted with my full refund on uber eats and also told me to call back on the day he was in and he would make sure I got my right order. He did not disappoint! Days later I called back when making another order on ubereats and he made sure I got my right order and an extra slice of cheese cake! Went here for the cheesecake and ended up with a full meal. This is an old school diner with a full all day menu and old school vibe. The disco fries were our app and the gravy on them was awesome. The meal comes with bread, coleslaw, pickles and an awesome pickled beet salad. We ended up full on the fries so took our BBQ rib entree and corn beef hash with poached egg entrees back to the hotel. We didn't end up with photos of those but the ribs were nothing but bones when hubby finished them. They came with steak fries that we didn't eat. The corn beef hash was pretty standard- but a solid breakfast item. Both entrees are pictured in yelp and ours looked just like the prior pics. Of you want a good solid diner with INCREDIBLE cheesecake then this is a really good option. Really had a good time here. Julie was a doll of a server with playful banter and prompt attention with multiple check ins throughout the meal. The French onion soup was a bowl full of liquid love. My god I loved it. Also did the combination pastrami and corned beef Reuben which was delectable and a respectable size. Tasted the red velvet cake and strawberry cheesecake (their claim to fame apparently) and both were very good. It's full of glitzy kitschy flashing lights outside, and an old school diner experience from the mid century period on the inside. Very much would like to check this place out for breakfast. The only odd thing was that the food came out as it was prepared and some people in our party were served much earlier than others based on what they ordered. Right side filled with whole pie with each level divided into different size and price inside the glass refrigerator. While on the left side, the glass refrigerator filled with single slide package in plastic boxes. It is like a cheesecake heaven. If you wanted try something famous here in NYC then Junior's cheesecake is definitely a stop before going back. One located in Manhattan, Time Square(New) and another one at Brooklyn, Fort Greene. This is definitely a tourist trap, nothing else is good except for their cheesecake. The food was decent compare to other America restaurants so do not come here for the food. The services here was also not so great. Overall, do not waste your money here and go somewhere else for a better meal. If you are here, then definitely get a slice or the whole cheesecake to share. Their single slice is pretty big but they are not cheap either. A plain cheesecake costs around $8 with taxes and a strawberry cheesecake will be around $9 and that is definitely not a good price. The cheesecake had a good flavor and texture which is different from others. Once again, I am not sure how I've yet to review the original Junior's! Five stars for yet another classic Brooklyn restaurant. First off, this review is for the bakery only- I have never eaten food from the restaurant side and probably never will- that is not what one goes to Junior's for. Junior's has the best NY style cheesecake for sure! It's pricey but so worth it. They have a variety of flavors and I've never been disappointed by it. My favorite is the apple crumb cheesecake and the seasonal key lime and lemon meringue ones! However, the classic strawberry, red velvet, devil's food, carrot cake and raspberry swirl are all top notch as well. Great local place for traditional American diner food and FABULOUS cheesecake. Come here to experience local Brooklyn! I love the traditional 70's style burnt orange and mustard yellow colors; they have maintained and kept in shape their original diner furniture and it's like a ballast to the past. The restaurant size is huge especially for New York real estate, allowing them to serve many customers. Service is quick and friendly, making it a joy to visit. Prices for food is extremely reasonable. We got the chicken tenders appetizer which was probably about a pound and a half of fresh fried chicken breast for about $15! I loved the Mazzeo ball soup too: great on a rainy, gloomy day. Known for their cheesecake, there are over a dozen types to choose from. I can't say I've had cheesecake quite like it before. It was cool to say we came! The atmosphere was cool and laid back. Our server was nice. I ordered the cried chicken dinner. He ordered a 50/50 pastrami & cornbeef sandwich. Took the food 20mins to arrive due to the chicken, which was cool. I sipped a drink while I waited. When my chicken arrived it was fresh, but it was bland too. I dumped salt all over it. I nibbled on his sandwich it was good & fresh too. When we finished we ordered dessert up front, there was a crazy line up there and nobody was assisting patrons. Cheesecake was good but far from revolutionary. Service was quick, friendly and coffee flowed freely, every time your cup was half full(or half empty) coffee was poured into your mug. The pastrami omelette was borderline inedible by NYC standards, and while I didn't send it back and I didn't eat a vast majority of my food. The corned beef ash was better but not great, yI don't waste any extra bites on NYC food tours so a lot of food was left over. Tomatoes and potatoes accompanying both dishes were average at best. Junior's, as we all know, is an institution. You come here almost out of obligation or nostalgia. Desserts are the lure, and they always deliver, and the food does just enough to satisfy. Until this past month, I had never even noticed the bar; knew it was there, but just never paid attention to it. I'm happy to report that I'm now hooked. That bar represents THE VERY BEST about "old-skool" Brooklyn. It's here where you can learn a bit from your elders, especially when it comes to honoring true bar culture. I'm telling you the laughter abounds, and the love and respect overwhelms, because we've simply adapted to places where this doesn't exist. If you go when Lina is working, you'll be delighted. I've been eating with Juniors for over 13 years. This review is for the takeout service (not dine in which I rarely do). There have been a few misses like when the forgot to put the salad dressing container in my entree salad and/or didn't follow instructions regarding modifications) but overwhelmingly I would give them five stars. Their food is consistent. (Highly recommend the Cobb Salad!) Their pricing is on the higher side but the portions are large and you're supporting a family business and neighborhood staple (one that refused to cave to real estate interests!). Both versions of their chocolate fudge cake to go are worth every penny. Rainbow cookies also A++. I don't even like cheesecake but will eat theirs. I would recommend Juniors 100%! read more

This is the quintessential New York restaurant. I love love love it. We had an amazing assortment of everything. We stopped in for light snack of coffee and shared cheesecake. I heard that the prices were ridiculous but upon going in I realized that they were decent. I ordered the chicken and 3 shrimps and potato wedges and Cole slaw. However my waitress ordered the ribs instead and made a mistake, she corrected it about 8 min after. My partner also complained that the food was mediocre at best, the shrimp was possibly the best thing on the menu. The turkey was nothing special. The complimentary cole slaw, pickled beets and half-sour pickles for the table were very good; the waiter brought us extra cole slaw after we finished the first bowl. The kids had hot dogs, which turned out to be "foot-long" wieners on a decent roll. The accompanying steak fries were very good--tender on the inside and crispy on the outside, and not over-salted. The potato pancakes were dense and a little dry. We needed the sour cream and applesauce to make them good. I ordered a pineapple cheesecake online & shipped to CA. It arrived warm and didn't taste good. I called customer service and requested a refund. They said funds should return in 3-5 business days. I love traditions and Junior's never disappoints. Same 50s music that was playing since the 80's, when I first ate here. They don't pander to the masses. They stay true and original. I love all types of music, rap, pop, rock, jazz, Latin, etc but when "Good Golly Miss Molly came on my feet started tapping away under the table. It wasn't exactly a "Glee" experience, but I noticed other diners singing along too. I felt relaxed and safe. My server kept her distance but seemed to always appear out of nowhere when I needed a refill and when I dropped my napkin. White glove service all the way. I had an appointment nearby and when I was finished I noticed Junior's across the street. I stood outside Juniors for a few minutes debating whether I should go in. Junior's is in institution located at the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb Avenues in Brooklyn since 1950. Junior's is also a stone's throw away from the Hotel Indigo, where I usually stay when in downtown Brooklyn. Junior's is famous for their cheesecake but last Friday I had lunch there with my brother in law, who works very close by. The restaurant is spacious and clean and has that old school deli/diner type of feel. I almost expect to watch the Brooklyn Dodgers on the TV. The menu is huge and the portions are also large. On my brother in law's suggestion, I ordered the lunch combination for $14.95. This includes a drink, a soup or salad and 1/2 sandwich on a plain roll. I chose the corned beef sandwich and a salad. I was a little leery of a plain roll instead of the traditional rye bread but my sandwich was excellent all the same. My salad was just OK but Junior's provided pickles and a really good breadbasket. The only part I regret was I was so stuffed I didn't have room for their cheese cake on this trip. I can't even imagine trying to eat a whole sandwich. I have had Junior's cheese cake before and it was quite good. Junior's is a great place to experience a slice of New York Americana and there is something on their menu for everyone. This legendary hallmark in Brooklyn, New York has gone down significantly. Service is significantly slower than ever before. There's just not enough wait staff.
