My friend and I stopped into Flower Child on a Friday evening around 8 PM. This place just has a bright atmosphere to it. We placed our order at the register counter and then was given a number for our order. Seating is self served. I like how everything you need is out on the floor and you can take what you need (I.e. silverware, napkins, to-go containers, condiments, etc). I ordered the avocado Caesar salad and added steak to it. My friend ordered an entree which comes with your pick of a protein and two sides. I ordered the Chicken Yakisoba, and my husband got the Chicken Enchilada...and we also shared 2 sides, Broccoli and Mac 'n Cheese. Well, everything was every bit as good as I had anticipated. Truly SO fresh!! All the veggies looked sparkling new, ripe, and freshly cut! I even loved this drink, Watermelon flavored Sangria (?). There were actually quite a few tempting items on the menu...and I found it hard to choose! I would have preferred ordering at the table, but this is a casual eatery where you stand in line, and order at the counter. However, I came knowing that. The thing I found extremely annoying was their food delivery system. We had to walk back to the counter twice to ask about our items! (?!?) They didn't deliver the drinks in a timely manner...and totally forgot the sides! Normally, I would dock a star or two for something like that. I ordered a falafel wrap that was made oddly; the falafel was at the top third, the greens were in the middle third, and the sauce was at the bottom rather than having the ingredients all mixed together. Flower Child has gone downhill fast. I used to love this spot for the vegan/vegetarian options, but lately it's been nothing but disappointing. The last few times I've eaten here I've gotten sick, been shorted on protein, and honestly treated poorly by staff. The Bowl is such a great location, and the Flower Child space itself is cute, but the quality just isn't there anymore. On top of that, the restaurant doesn't even feel clean half the time -- floors dirty, tables sticky, and just an overall unkept vibe. We used to eat here every Friday night, and now I'm not sure we'll be back. Every time I order tofu it's like 4 tiny pieces, and the to-go bowls keep getting skimpier. Either serve a real portion or get smaller bowls, because right now it feels like we're paying for air. Last night sealed it. The food came out burning hot (which I thought was fine at first), but I got sick right after eating it. It honestly tasted like they just tossed everything on a pan with way too much salt and old fries. And the service? For a place that already closes earlier than everywhere else at The Bowl, they sure let you know. One time staff was sweeping under our feet before we were done, and last night they cleared our bowls before I even had my purse on. At 9:05??? Ridiculous. I really wanted to keep loving Flower Child, but between the dirty restaurant, the bad food, and the crappy service, they've got to step it up. read more

It has a beautiful airy dining area, a great patio and menu with delicious, healthy options. Of course, service was very friendly and attentive, as you'd expect from a new restaurant that has only been open for two weeks. Both my wife and I went with the chicken and two sides. My sweet potato fries arrived first. However, they were burnt. They happily replaced them. The substitute was just okay. The other sides cauliflower risotto, asparagus salad and broccoli were all outstanding. The biggest problem was the chicken, which was lukewarm (at best) and very dry. Last but not least, the gluten-free cashew chocolate chip cookies were da bomb. I'd return just for those. I'm excited about this new Ballantyne option and hope to return, but they still have a way to go. Based on my experience, I think 3 stars is a stretch, but we hope to return. We ordered: sweet potato soup, Mediterranean chicken kabobs with a yogurt sauce over quinoa and veges, a steak wrap, a steak bowl with broccoli and calabrian cauliflower sides and a turkey avocado cobb salad. Although portion size was good and attractive, none of us really enjoyed what we had. Most of the side sauces were too spicy and vinegar based for us. After 3 sauce types we finally got a ranch type of dressing that was okay. My broccoli and cauliflower were very crunchy; it seemed like they were thrown on the grill for a quick char. I must say my steak was tender and that was the only thing I really enjoyed.
