Food is amazing here. Fresh and delish. It was nice weather outside on an early Sunday so there is plenty of outside seating. Service here is fairly quick, food comes out promptly. You pay at the counter and they bring you your order. Today I tried the special Bang Bang steak. Lots of great ingredients and a little spicy. Really good. We also got a Mother Earth and a steak wrap with a side of vegan Mac and cheese. My only request is they have a Flower Child in the Concord/Lake Norman area. I would eat here more often. read more

Such a crowd pleaser. This restaurant really has something for everyone. My friend and I stopped into Flower Child on a Friday evening around 8 PM. This place just has a bright atmosphere to it. We placed our order at the register counter and then was given a number for our order. Seating is self served. I like how everything you need is out on the floor and you can take what you need (I.e. silverware, napkins, to-go containers, condiments, etc). I ordered the avocado Caesar salad and added steak to it. My friend ordered an entree which comes with your pick of a protein and two sides. Their menu offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options as well. The food was tasty and the ambiance of the restaurant was nice too. We love flower child!!! Easily located in the Bowl with plenty of seating both inside and out. You go up to the counter to order, get a number and they bring it out to you, so you don't have someone waiting on you but everyone was really nice and helpful and I noticed they cleaned tables quickly to get more people seated. This place is SUCH an lovely spot that I'm so glad I got to go to during dinner. It's one of those places where you go and order at the counter, the food will be brought to your table. At first I was hesitant to try a restaurant with a Healty food concept out of fear the food would be bland, flavorless and lacking a decent portion size BUT this was no the case! I ordered the FLYING AVOCADO it consisted of roasted turkey, gouda, romaine, tomato, and avocado hummus. The ingredients tasted fresh and flavorful and the portion size was not disappointing. I really enjoyed the generous portion of avocado hummus it was very good on this wrap Lol. It came with mixed greens tossed it a lemon flavored something but it was a subtle flavor the greens looked and tasted very fresh. I felt the selection of side dishes that accompanied the sandwiches and wraps lacked variety and all other side choices were priced separately. I decided to add a side of roasted sweet potato fries to share and luckily they were good and had some crispness to them. Their menu had a lot that I wanted to try, but here is what we got: *Watermelon Sangria - didn't really taste the watermelon, but I think it added a little sweetness and toned down the spice. It was closer to a fall sangria than a summer one. *Mediterranean Chicken Kabob Bowl - this had so much more flavor than I was expecting. It was so good that I could not stop eating. The only thing I did not like is that it contained cucumbers which was not listed on the menu, but luckily they were on the side rather than thrown into the bowl. *Flying Avacado Wrap - my husband got this and liked his wrap, but we both agreed after having bites of my dish, this was a little bland, and we were left wanting more flavor like my dish had. I had chicken enchiladas which was an excellent choice. The myriad of flavors and colors created a beautiful and deliciously fresh bite. No flavor or texture overpowered the dish. Even the poblano cream sauce and jalapeños were a perfect balance of spiciness and flavor. The ambiance is casual and comfortable with seating both inside as well as an outside patio. It was a hot humid day, so I sat inside. What stood out most was how the employees were won top of everything, cleaning tables and even mopping the floor when needed. We checked out this 2nd location of Flower Child at this new strip, "The Bowl'" in Ballantyne, Charlotte...quite bustling already! We got there super early for dinner (5:30 pmish?), and there was already a line...busy-busy!! We chose to sit outside on their patio...which turned out to be quite nice. I ordered the Chicken Yakisoba, and my husband got the Chicken Enchilada...and we also shared 2 sides, Broccoli and Mac 'n Cheese. Well, everything was every bit as good as I had anticipated. Truly SO fresh!! All the veggies looked sparkling new, ripe, and freshly cut! I even loved this drink, Watermelon flavored Sangria (?). There were actually quite a few tempting items on the menu...and I found it hard to choose! I would have preferred ordering at the table, but this is a casual eatery where you stand in line, and order at the counter. However, I came knowing that. The thing I found extremely annoying was their food delivery system. We had to walk back to the counter twice to ask about our items! (?!?) They didn't deliver the drinks in a timely manner...and totally forgot the sides! Normally, I would dock a star or two for something like that. I ordered a falafel wrap that was made oddly; the falafel was at the top third, the greens were in the middle third, and the sauce was at the bottom rather than having the ingredients all mixed together. Flower Child has gone downhill fast. I used to love this spot for the vegan/vegetarian options, but lately it's been nothing but disappointing. The last few times I've eaten here I've gotten sick, been shorted on protein, and honestly treated poorly by staff. The Bowl is such a great location, and the Flower Child space itself is cute, but the quality just isn't there anymore. On top of that, the restaurant doesn't even feel clean half the time -- floors dirty, tables sticky, and just an overall unkept vibe. We used to eat here every Friday night, and now I'm not sure we'll be back. Every time I order tofu it's like 4 tiny pieces, and the to-go bowls keep getting skimpier. Either serve a real portion or get smaller bowls, because right now it feels like we're paying for air. Last night sealed it. The food came out burning hot (which I thought was fine at first), but I got sick right after eating it. It honestly tasted like they just tossed everything on a pan with way too much salt and old fries. And the service? For a place that already closes earlier than everywhere else at The Bowl, they sure let you know. One time staff was sweeping under our feet before we were done, and last night they cleared our bowls before I even had my purse on. At 9:05??? Ridiculous. I really wanted to keep loving Flower Child, but between the dirty restaurant, the bad food, and the crappy service, they've got to step it up. read more

Let me start by stating that while Ive not been to this particular venue, I have dined at Flower Child before, in S. End and the quality of the food was exceptional. THAT however is not my biggest complaint with this location, no.....that, would fall under whats called disparate treatment--treating customers differently based on race or other protected characteristics-- which is illegal. My sister (who had driven in from DC), my fiance and I, were having a quiet meal at this particular location. Again, the food left a lot to be desired (rubbery steak, chewy broccoli and cold sweet potato fries) and we were nearing the end of our dining (my sister was still working on her soup) and quietly talking and catching up with her when the manager came over and informed us it was well past their closing hours, thanked us and asked us to leave. If we were the only ones there, I would not have an issue. However, we were not. There was a couple who came in behind us and yes they happened to be Caucasian. She didnt say a single word to them. And whats so funny is, my fiance who happens to be white just sat there a bit stunned as she watched it all unfold. I was going to say something but I refused to let that ruin what, for the most part, was a decent evening, even with the underwhelming quality of the food. My sister left to bring the car around while we waited (Im medically disabled and on O² and she had parked a good ways out). When she pulled up it had been roughly between five to seven minutes. I'll give you a guess who was still sitting in their seats as we were driving off. They were talking just as casually with take out boxes on the table. Needless to say, we won't be returning to this location and will indeed recommend anywhere else to friends and family. I decided to go with the chicken entree paired with the broccoli and sweet potato fries! The broccoli here is top notch! Between the lemon zest and Parmesan it makes for a perfect pairing. It has a beautiful airy dining area, a great patio and menu with delicious, healthy options. Of course, service was very friendly and attentive, as you'd expect from a new restaurant that has only been open for two weeks. Both my wife and I went with the chicken and two sides. My sweet potato fries arrived first. However, they were burnt. They happily replaced them. The substitute was just okay. The other sides cauliflower risotto, asparagus salad and broccoli were all outstanding. The biggest problem was the chicken, which was lukewarm (at best) and very dry. Last but not least, the gluten-free cashew chocolate chip cookies were da bomb. I'd return just for those. I'm excited about this new Ballantyne option and hope to return, but they still have a way to go. Based on my experience, I think 3 stars is a stretch, but we hope to return. Although mostly vegetarian, one can get a steak , chicken tofu, salmon or shrimp entrees with sides. We ordered: sweet potato soup, Mediterranean chicken kabobs with a yogurt sauce over quinoa and veges, a steak wrap, a steak bowl with broccoli and calabrian cauliflower sides and a turkey avocado cobb salad. Although portion size was good and attractive, none of us really enjoyed what we had. Most of the side sauces were too spicy and vinegar based for us. After 3 sauce types we finally got a ranch type of dressing that was okay. My broccoli and cauliflower were very crunchy; it seemed like they were thrown on the grill for a quick char. I must say my steak was tender and that was the only thing I really enjoyed. We got a carry out at 5:45pm Sunday night in July and ordered 3 meals, = a Bowl, An Entree and a Salad. The Ginger crunch salad was not worth $10.75 as it was 3/4 quantity of chopped Romain lettuce with maybe 3/4 cup spiraled cucumber, carrot shavings and red bell peppers with a tiny contain of dressing. Not worth the money and was tasteless.. The Chicken Yakisoba Noodles used NO WHITE CHICKEN MEAT, only bland thigh meat, the noodles were dry like cooked and put in a container from the day before, the pea POD, meaning ONE PEA POD was hilarious. The Tofu Plate had sides of Mac and cheese and spiced cooked sweet potatoes. One of the sweet potatoes bites was not cooked. The problem here is consistency. They make an effort to have NEW items that are Special but So Special that even though they are well liked are short lived on the menu.. Prices, they are going up regularly. The $2.50 cookie is now @2.95. They do have a coupon for $5 every so often if you use their App to order online. All these things together make us decide to go elsewhere. read more
