My husband and I ate here last night with friends, as it was on their short list of places to try. I am so glad they suggested it! It's located right in Gaslight Village, between Kilwin's and Jose Babushka's. The space isn't large, but there are still plenty of tables, and it sounds like there is a large customer base that just does takeout. The space is clean and welcoming, we got waters right away when we selected our table, and you just order and pay up at the counter. Between the four of us we ordered: Chicken vindaloo Mango chicken (which was a current special) Garlic naan Lamb rogan josh Vegetable samosas Nawabi chicken (though I think I actually received chicken seekh kebab) My husband also ordered a Malaysia(?) lemonade I didn't try it, but the chicken vindaloo was apparently super good, and also pretty spicy. It also came with rice. I did try the mango chicken, and it was super good! It also came with rice. The sauce is on the sweeter side, but not overly so. I didn't try the garlic naan since I can't have garlic, but everyone else liked it. I also don't eat lamb, so I didn't try my husband's dish, but he really liked it and is looking forward to the leftovers! We all also really enjoyed my chicken, even though I'm pretty sure I got the wrong dish. When I looked up nawabi chicken it describes a rich, creamy, curry sauce. The chicken I received was definitely kebabs, as it had no sauce and had the holes from the skewers. My dish was the only one that didn't come with rice, as it had no sauce. The chicken was cooked amazingly, the flavors used were delightful, and it wasn't dry at all. I've never had anything cooked in a tandoor before, so I wonder if that's what makes it so tasty. I also loved the veggie samosas - I ate both of them, but shared a bite with my husband. They come with two sauces - one is like a mint cilantro sauce and the other is a tamarind sauce. Both were great, but I preferred the green sauce. There was only one server working, and she was super sweet, and came to refill our waters plenty of times. The owner also came over to chat with us for awhile, which was really nice! I would not have guessed they had only been open for 4 months (though apparently she did have a takeout only restaurant that was pretty well-known in EGR). I'm so glad we tried them out! If you've been lucky enough to know Jyoti's Kitchen from their in-home takeout days, the good news is--they've officially grown up and moved into a beautiful downtown Gaslight location in East Grand Rapids. Had lunch today and ordered the Lamb Rogan Josh, Tandoori Chicken, garlic naan, and vegetable pakora--and honestly, I'm still thinking about that Rogan Josh. Rich, flavorful, perfectly spiced... absolutely the star of the show. I usually avoid tandoori chicken because too often it arrives looking beautiful and tasting like edible drywall. Not here. Tender, juicy, flavorful, and generously portioned--finally, tandoori chicken that deserves respect. The garlic naan was hot and perfect for scooping up every last bite, and the vegetable pakora arrived crisp, hot, and exactly what you want them to be. Recommend the mint chutney to go with the pakora. Service was fast, food came out hot, and the spice level was spot on. The menu is broad without being chaotic. Some Indian restaurants hand you a novel and leave you wondering if they're having an identity crisis. Not here--it feels intentional, confident, and delicious. Very happy they made the move from home kitchen to downtown. Gaslight needed this. read more

We stopped by Jyoti's Kitchen for lunch while walking around Gaslight Village, and I'm so glad we did! The food was spectacular, and the portion sizes made up for the value of the meal--even the lunch portions! We tried the vegetable samosas for our appetizer, and the butter chicken with garlic naan for our main. Everything came out very tasty. We even got to speak with the owner for a little bit, which made the experience extra special. I'm looking forward to trying it again soon! read more

So, so good. I love a good vindaloo, and I was not disappointed with my first visit to this new Gaslight Village establishment. I was a bit hesitant to place a takeaway lunch order around the same time that the nearby high school was on lunch break at their open campus, but I was promptly greeted and walked away with my well packaged food expeditiously. By the time I got home, everything was still hot and fresh. I loved every bite, and there was nothing left when I finished. Even the packaging was compostable and found a good home in the end. I will definitely be eating here more in the future, maybe next time to dine inside their tidy dining room. read more

Great food, quick service, great spice, huge portions. They are very light on the rice servings but tons of curry. The 3 naan we ordered were perfectly cooked. Very small inside, I think there were only 4 or 5 tables so not ideal for a large group. Ordered at the counter and ate in. The staff was super helpful with ordering, Indian food is my favorite food but my biggest complaint is always spice inconsistencies and I have a hard time deciding what level of spice to order. The staff was spot on with helping on decide on spice and the spice was perfect. I love spicy and so I ordered an 8 and it was exactly what I wanted. My husband doesn't love spice as much and is still learning to tolerate spice and he ordered a 6 which was much higher than what he usually gets but he said it was the perfect amount of spice. So far this has been my favorite Indian spot in GR. read more

4.2 out of 5 Small restaurant with a small menu. But thats not necessarily a bad thing. The short of it, its the best Indian food I've had in GR and its not really close. Ambiance was decent, semi open kitchen, with seating for maybe 20, its tight. 1 knock I had was not the friendliest lady at the counter, I assumed it was the owner. I tried 2 classics butter chicken and chicken tikka masala, plus naan Usually butter chicken is my go to, the butter chicken was delicious, a little sweet but I also got it much milder then I usually do, butter chicken was slightly to watery/loss for me but thats my only tick. The chicken tikka was top 3 I've had. A true gravy, full on spices in the gravy, i got it Spicer then I did the butter chicken and I would have went Spicer for sure. The chicken in both the dishes was well seasoned, moist and juicy. The naan was sadly forgettable, definitely the weak link in the food. A little tougher then im use too, my wife described it as a little leathery but I personally wouldn't go that far, but it wasnt soft and it was quite dry. Next time I go (which will be very soon) ill be trying some of the other breads they have. The rice was better then average, not the best but not the worst by any means. They do skimp on the rice a bit, which is odd bc its the cheapest part of the meal. If you are someone that doesnt use a lot of naan to eat your meal (like I do) then you might find the lack of rice to be disappointing. Definitely give them a try, way better Indian food then the names that are often thrown out as the 'go-to' in GR. Also this is my experience going once and getting it for takeout. read more

I couldn't wait to arrive home this evening to write my very first review of an Indian restaurant. Walking along Wealthy Street we by chance came across Jyotti's Kitchen and made a quick decision to check it out. Being vegetarian, we saw that they offered a variety of options in appetizer, tandoor bread, and entrees, and we sat down at an outdoor table with my dog, who would have enjoyed a seat there as well. I can't say one item was better than the other. We ordered Aloo Tikki, Paneer Kulcha, Saag Paneer and Channa Masala.They were all standouts and their tastes complemented and balanced one another very well. The proprietor introduced herself early on in the meal and checked on us to be sure we were doing okay. It truly was service with a smile.
