The Well Animal Institute did a no anesthesia dental cleaning day at Buster's in Conifer, my local pet store, so I signed up my dog to get his teeth cleaned. WOW!! What a great system! What a perfectly genius concept. It turns out there is no more reason to drug your dog for a basic teeth cleaning that there is a need to drug a child. Properly trained staff, with a smart system for working with the animals did the trick very well. It took about 45 minutes. My dog laid there happy to be getting pets and loving attention. He barely squirmed until the very end. I will never again put my dog through the unnecessary risk of getting knocked out for a basic teeth cleaning. I notice in another review that a person was put off by there being a tip jar in the room... I was pleased. I sat and watched this woman being very tender and sweet with my dog, I felt I had been charged a fair price (less than teeth cleaning at the vet, once you factor in the bloodwork and anesthesia). So in my mind maybe I was tipping her for the way she cuddled my boy, while I felt the fee covered teeth cleaning, she went above and beyond. read more

Awesome!!!! Dog teeth cleaning without anesthesia!!! I hate risking my dogs to anesthesia for anything, and because it is recommended to have your dog's teeth cleaned annually, that would mean them going under general anesthesia every year. Thank you Well Animal Institute for saving my dogs from general anesthesia! I have had all my dogs teeth cleaned with Well Animal Institute for years. All the staff are wonderful with the dogs, even dogs that aren't always fully cooperative, like one of mine. They have been gentle and patient with calming him down and making him feel safe and comfortable so that he can relax while he gets his teeth cleaned. And they do an excellent job. They're teeth always end up clean and white. I also greatly appreciate that they let me know if they see a problem, such as the two fractured teeth that they found with one of my dogs, so that I can follow up on that to make sure that my dogs teeth are properly taken care of. I have a FEW borzoi and am easily maintaining their teeth for a reasonable price. Reading some of the negative reviews I wonder how many dogs that Lauren O. and Kim N. have had in the past? Of course her vet told her to spend $600 instead of $200. This doesn't fix drastic problems but it does a lot of good if you maintain their teeth. Use common sense, check and brush their teeth, smell their breath, notice what is going on with the dog. I had several done at a fund raiser where they kept them behind a tented area. I took one down to the Training Center in Colorado Springs and was in the room and observed the techs. They didn't NEED to wrap her like a burrito (she's trained). She was on her back and was perfectly comfortable with the techs holding and working on her. Great service for the $200 spent. Go every other year. Become familiar with your own dogs mouth. I would highly recommend K-9 Smiles! We've been hesitant to get teeth cleaning for our pup because we didn't want to put her under anesthesia. I called in and it turned out they had an opening today in my local area, which was so fantastic. I didn't realize they were mobile, so it's covenient that they travel around CO! I brought her a few hours later, it was really easy to check in and then cleaning only took about 30 minutes. The dental clinicians aren't super talkative, but they know what they're doing and they do it extremely well. They are very gentle and kind with the pups. The clinician swaddled mine up and I was scared my pup would be anxious, but she looked so calm and relaxed. I was SOOO impressed when I saw my pup's teeth after. My husband and I can't stop talking about how clean it is! We will definitely be back! read more

Kind, caring, thorough. And at the end of the visit my 6 little senior Chihuahuas immediately stood up and were happy, wagging their tails, ready for a treat & a walk. They are always completely unstressed & actually love the special attention they get as each one is held on the technician's lap, snuggled in a blanket, through the whole process. I've been having Well Animal Institute clean my little guys teeth for years now in between periodic anesthesia cleanings at my regular vet, just because Chihuahuas with their tiny teeth & tiny jaws, can build up a lot of tartar & loose bone & teeth quickly. They do an AMAZING job, we've been 4 or 5 times over the past several years. My border collie's teeth are a disaster (something about the breed, they don't produce enough saliva?) The tarter that builds up in just 6months is insane. and the smell... My dog does not do well with other dogs and is kind of a spaz. But when they turn the dog on their backs in the tech's laps, somehow he just chills out, even with other dogs nearby. And his teeth are gorgeous afterward. When we rescued the dog we'd been told that a vet recommended he have a few teeth extracted, but after just one cleaning we found that would have been totally unnecc. I only suggest K-9 Smiles, after I researched Vet after Vet to make an appt for my dog. 1. Cost from every Vet was 3 times more than K-9. 2, Vets did not want to clean teeth without anesthesia. I had this little abused dog adopted and she is very scared of strangers and I knew her teeth needed to be cleaned but where was the question? Then Chuck and Don's, where I buy her food told me that K-9 will be in their store and I made immediately an appointment. This was the best decision I could do for my little Schatzi. She was not scared and did not cry and the teeth are white and healthy again. read more

I made an appointment at CSU oncology for the next day. It was Cancer. Detected in its very early stages. Hank had surgery for cancer and lived six more healthy wonderful years. This is a great alternative to expensive teeth cleaning through your vet. They thoroughly evaluate your pet's dental status and if there are any problems noticed. I have 4 dogs and spending upwards of $500 per dog each year is not something I want to do unless there are serious dental needs like extractions. If your dog is fairly easy to allow their mouth to be fiddled with this is definitely the way to go. It's especially great for older dogs who should not be put under anesthesia unless it's an emergency. read more

My elderly miniature fox terrier is diabetic and blind. It was very worrisome to take him in to the vet where they would give him anesthesia to clean his teeth. I have used the Well Animal Institute to clean his teeth for the past two years and love it. Walker (dog) comes away with clean teeth and nice breath. His vet is amazed how well his teeth look! Appear to do a thorough job and cleaning. I agree that it may not be the depth of clean you might expect when your dog is under anesthesia but less stress on dog in my opinion. Not inexpensive but necessary for dog's health. I was surprised when I was asked if I wanted to give the technicians a gratuity on top of fee. I felt this was inappropriate given that I would never think of paying my Veterinarian a "tip" on top of professional fee. If they hadn't asked for that I might have rated them higher. read more

Well Animal Institute does an outstanding job taking care of my dog's teeth and giving me updates on her oral health. I have a high strung hunting dog who is very sweet but can't hold still for long for anyone. They do an excellent job keeping her happy and calm and get her teeth clean. I far prefer this for annual teeth cleanings because I don't like the idea of having to sedate her. They also are very convenient coming to my local Hero's Pets store for regular clinics. I have had all three of my cats teeth cleaned and the techs always do an excellent job. I am so glad their team is finally educating people on how important it is to brush a cats teeth and keep up with regular dental cleanings. I have had a really good experience with K-9 smiles. I have two older dogs that I don't want to be put under due to health concerns. They cleaned their teeth well and did an exam that was documented. This to me is very similar to what I have done at my dentist. A good alternative to putting them under at half the cost. The dogs did great! I was reassured by having a vet look at their teeth and mouth and gums in case there was something going on that needed medical attention. read more

We took Denali (The world's greatest dog ) here to get her teeth cleaned. She's a rotty who is 13 and 1/2 years old. So we didn't want to use anesthesia. They were so so caring with her, took their time with her. They let my husband stay with her since she was uncertain. A wonderful experience. I tell everyone about you. I found the Well Animal Institute at a clinic held in Highlands Ranch at Wag N Wash. The people were great, kind and very considerate to my pet. I had a cat who was surrounded by dogs having their teeth done but everyone was calm. My pet got a report card informing me of what was going on with my pet's teeth.
