They are knowledgeable, and friendly. They helped me even though I was only a customer by proxy, buying a car that they previously worked on. They sent me the invoices, from them it appears their time estimates are conservative which is great, for instance they can replace a timing chain in 5 hours which is a hell of a lot faster than I can do it! It is my opinion the costs are hidden by the price of parts. The subframe on my Saab was replaced in April, the charge for the part which was used was 1,080 dollars. Here in the south I can get 5 for that price 1,080 dollars. The worst part however is for around 1,080 dollars you can actually buy a brand new OEM subframe. What about a PCV valve for 50 bucks!? The superseded part number to the one in the invoice, in other words the newer part number, costs 12 dollars. Keep in mind that Saab parts are not hard to get contrary to what you may hear, the factories are still pumping a lot of them out. Make of my review what you will, but I personally would not take my Saab to this mechanic. read more

My '87 244DL VOLVO needed a repair and the shop I had it at no longer had a tech that could do the repair I needed. K&N Automotive was able to not only get the part I needed in three days, they were able to inspect my Volvo only to discover that the repair that the original auto shop claimed I needed done (an over $800 repair) wasn't necessary at all. Everyone there was outstanding and helpful, they went above and beyond for the "Other" Swedish car visiting the Sabbs in the lot. They made many phone calls to the other shop to get clear details as to what was really going on and was excellent with contacting me with updates. I can't say enough good about K&N Automotive. I just recently bought a new 9000 CSE from them and it's a beauty!!! I had no issues trusting them to provide a great car and I am so happy that I did. They are not only honest and upfront but extremely reasonable (this is a Saab after all) price wise. I highly recommend them to any Saab owner out there whether you're an Swedish only Saab connoisseur or GM Saab person. I am pretty educated about my car and they take me seriously. If you own a Saab, you owe it to yourself (& your car) to get familiar with K&N. The guys at K&N have been taking care of Saabs for over 30 years. They are very knowledgable about the unique cars and their rates are very reasonable when compared to dealerships. On more than one occasion, K&N recommended repairs to parts on my car rather than a replacement with new parts that saved me hundred of dollars. I haven't been to a dealership in years that can actually repair a car. All they can do is replace parts until the problem goes away, which is often a very expensive fix to a problem. For example, Saab recommends the pulley be replaced when the surpentine belt is due to be changed. However, the pulley really just needs to be repacked with lube and is good to go for many more miles - which is exactly what K&N recommended. The only negatives I can note is that the hours aren't the most convenient - no weekend hours. Plus they don't have any arrangements for loaner cars. I worked around that by renting a car for the day from the local branch of one of the large national rental chains nearby. One of the sad things for me about recently selling my Saab 9-3 was that I would no longer have K&N to take my new car to for reliable and honest service. I highly recommend K&N to all Saab owners. read more

Honest, skilled, and reliable. That sums up my experience with K&N. I bought a used Saab anticipating that some work would need to be done. These guys have me a clear and accurate assessment of what I needed and why (e.g. for safety, comfort, etc..), they also are very clear about what services could be considered optional. Overall I found their skill and knowledge to be above average. I was particularly impressed with the description vs. reality of what I should expect after the repairs. The only downside is they don't have loaners or shuttles. However; that is pretty common for smaller shops and doesn't change the quality of their work. read more

If you drive a Saab, don't bother going to your dealership, because they often don't know what they're talking about. Bring you car here. We've had our 96 9000 in twice; once for a bad starter and once for ball joints and CV boots. Don and Kevin took care of us. It's on the pricey side as far as shop time goes, but I can't say enough about their knowledge or passion for quirky little Swedish cars like ours, and they do a lot of little "extras" - like when they replaced our dried out and leaky turbo hoses with new silicone ones, or when they re-hung our gas tank because it wasn't done properly when it was replaced, reset some gauges and status lights, so on, and so forth. These are the only ones we trust with our car, and they really do know everything. read more

Had my clutch replaced on my Saab 9.3, but a mistake was made in the process. K&N fixed the error and completed additional work on my brakes as a "make-up". They should be complimented on their honesty and customer service. I highly recommend K&N and will not take my Saab anywhere else. read more

Best car mechanic I've ever used. I have a Saab 9-3 with over 200k miles and when it suddenly died I took it to Huron Automotive first. They quoted me a new everything basically, totaling $2800. I decided to have my car towed to K&N after some research and it was the best decision I've ever made regarding my car. It was quickly discovered that the throttle body intake had simply disconnected. Total cost - $100. The only negative is that they are very busy and short staffed currently. I dropped my car off and was told it would be 2 weeks before they could have time to look at my car but would try and at least check it sooner. Luckily, only 3 days later I received a call with the diagnosis informing me that my car would be able to be picked up that day. I can confidently say that I will never use another repair shop for my Saab as long as K&N is in business. read more

I just want thank every single one of the amazing employees who work here!!!! It is very hard to find someone who can work on my Saab, when I found this place I felt very confident right when I walked in, Tiffany was very friendly and helpful!!!! After years (we have a 2005 Saab) of being unsatisfied with having the Detroit area Saab dealership service we tried K & N. What a difference!
