Opted for the Pad Woon Sen ($13) glass noodles with chicken. I told the server I wanted mild spice, but they gave me no spice. Didn't make a big deal out of it and just ate it. I appreciate that it's not that salty, but I think it could use a pinch more flavor. Probably would've enjoyed it more if it it had a bit of spice. Outstanding experience! This upmarket Thai restaurant is above the rest in a very competitive Uptown market. The pork dumplings were delicious and the dumpling sealed with an artful multi-layer twist. Was very excited to try this place and will have to say I'll be back again. We ordered some food Togo from the small but nice bar on a Sunday night and were happy with just about everything. We tried the appetizer sampler consisting of the wings, the dumplings, and the spring rolls. Everything was great, however, was not too impressed with the dumplings- but that might be because we took the food Togo. Besides that we were super impressed! We ordered the yellow curry fried rice and the pad woo sen both level 4 Spice. Both were served hot with fresh ingredients and great flavor. I would recommend level 4 spice for anyone who can take a strong kick. 5 might be too much for me, and I love a good spice. Will certainly be back to try some more! read more

In an almost secluded part of the Knox district, away from the bustle, but under a large apartment building, we found Ka Thai. It was much more busy inside than what it looked like from the street, which I can assume is because of just how delicious the food was. Me and my family ordered the summer rolls and Thai dumplings to start, shared the Massaman curry, Pad See Ew, and the E-San classic. Everything came with uniquely strong sauces that accentuated the dish's own flavor. Whenever I go to a Thai restaurant I always get the Massaman, and this place certainly got it right. The curry was rich and the vegetables were soft but still had their own texture. One thing that also stood out, was the dumplings. All positioned around a sweet sauce, they were rolled into a bite sized sphere with the meat(of your choice) inside. Oh, it was good! Chewy, but not too much. The sauce was sweet, but had a little kick at the end, that went well with the dumpling. When we were done, I saw a sign saying that they were moving. We asked the servers about it and she told us that they had been around, and had enough business to move into a bigger place down the road. I was happy for them because it did get a little it backed in that small place, and it would be nice to sit in a patio the next time we came. I've eaten at just about every Thai restaurant in Dallas. This is one of the better versions in town right now. Everything we tried was delicious; a little step up from other Thai bistros. Slightly more expensive... high-rent district, right next to La Duni in the new Knox Heights building. Upscale casual, 6 bar seats, 12-14 tables... this place will likely get very busy soon. One quibble: my Pad Kee Mao noodles were are little on the on the overcooked side, but the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Spice level 4 was appropriately spiced. Medium spice (level 3) may be on the lighter side, but YMMV. When busy, service can be lacking, but this is understandable. Happily, I have an update: Ka Thai is once again allowing BYOB. This is from the owner/chef who was made aware of TABC official policy. Thanks for allowing BYOB! For other restaurants who server wine & beer: It is INCORRECT to tell patrons that the law no longer allows you to accept BYOB patrons once you have beer/wine license. The TABC states this clearly on their website : this is an optional choice in all cases, except when your restaurant has a mixed drinks permit. The ambience of this restaurant is great for a date night. Each table has a controllable light which allows you to set the intimacy for the meal. We had the red curry and yellow curry and it was spicy enough to enjoy however, not too spicy to sweat. Our server was very attentive, and our drinks, whiskey mixes, were always filled and tasted great. I went here with a friend early Saturday morning, it wasn't too busy but by the end of our meal, more people were starting to seat. We parked in the garage so entered through the back. We were kindly greeted and the service was excellent! Very attentive and made sure that we were tended but also let us enjoy our meal and our conversation. I got the pad Thai and it was very flavorful! Nothing too special but just when you think the portions are small because of how they plate it and it's such a large plate, don't be fooled! I was able to bring a portion home with me. We also tried the Thai tea and it was super tasty! Very well brewed and just the right amount of flavor. My friend and I split the chicken satay as well, nothing too special. I thought the chicken was kind of thinly sliced that it was kind of drying. We tried to order a different appetizer but somehow they were out of something on the menu. The server had to check a couple times with the kitchen to see what else was not available. Very solid Thai place in the Knox/Henderson area. Most of the Thai places in the area have either a very limited menu or are far from what I would call Thai in regards to taste. Most of the food taste the way expect that food to taste, prices are decent and one big plus is they are five minutes away from where I live. The one thing that really boggles my mind is, how many bad Thai places I have experienced in Dallas proper. Having lived, besides Thailand for two years, in San Francisco, DC and NYC, I have never had so many bad experiences with Thai food (how can they screw the food up so badly) than here. This is somehow similar as well for almost all Asian cuisines in Dallas proper. Once you venture out of Dallas proper (e.g. Plano, Frisco) there are a lot of very good Asian restaurants (most of them hole in the wall kind of places). read more

I live in Houston and drove to Dallas to meet a friend from India. He is a veg guy, so no bbq or TexMex for him - I yelped and found this place and we were both happy we did. Since it was my first time here, I asked the waiter for recommendations - he said "I don't know. Today is my second day ". I asked him if he'd eaten anything yet and he said "they gave me pad kee mao and It was delicious, so i said" I'll have that ". He brought the owner over to talk to us in case we had questions. She was very friendly, as was the whole staff. The food was awesome - I know in Thailand pad kee mao is the most basic street food there is, but its one of my favorites in Bangkok and now in Dallas. Cute little new restaurant nestled under an apartment complex right off Knox. We had the 'sampler' ($12) that includes any 3 choices of appetizers, with the exception of the miso glazed fish. We chose fried spring rolls, chicken satay, and dumplings! Their peanut sauce that comes with the chicken satay is some of the best I've ever had (i ate a couple bites just of the sauce...). For dinner i had the chicken pad Thai spicy L3, which was pretty light on spice during my experience. Their drink selection is good, with relatively inexpensive wine ($8 a glass on avg.) and beer ($5). Their wait staff was very friendly, but a little spotty on service - either SUPER attentive, or wouldn't be visited for 15 minutes. The only reason why they got 1 star is for the sake of posting the review. First and last visit to Ka Thai was yesterday. My friends and I ordered our food to go. The bag comes stapled shut. When we got home, a bug (picture below) crawled out of the bag. I called the restaurant immediately and I told them a black bug, like a small cockroach, crawled out of the bag. The woman on the phone insulted me by asking if it was a fruit fly. After being on hold for over 10 minutes, I was informed I would be refunded. Their apology didn't seem sincere. This place is super cute! I am pretty particular about my Thai food after visiting Thailand (what can I say, I'm a snob now) and Ka Thai didn't disappoint. My friend and I were on the hunt for Khao Soi, a dish native to northern Thailand, that you don't find on many Thair menus in Dallas. We called before going and they confirmed it's on the menu. Our waitress was from Northern Thailand and was so sweet and chatted with us about our experience and her hometown of Chiang Rai. The portion was HUGE (because, America) but delicious. We loved our meal at Ka Thai! Between the creative menu, cute décor, and delicious flavors, we can't wait to return again and again. I love that they offer a large variety of traditional dishes as well as some more creative/modern options, and they execute both styles so well. I definitely recommend starting off with their sampler option, which allows you to choose 3 apps. I HIGHLY recommend the Thai jerkey - it's not at all what I was expecting (i.e. I was anticipating dried pieces of meat and this was incredibly tender, cooked pieces of meat) and it was SO flavorful, with an amazing sauce on the side. Sauces must be their forte, because our other favorite app (the dumplings) had the most amazing vinegar-y sauce with them as well. For entrees we got the Pineapple Curry and Pad See Ew, and just like our apps, both dishes were full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Drink-wise I definitely recommend their Thai Iced Tea and Thai Iced Coffee - usually places tend to make their Thai tea too sweet, but this had the perfect amount of sweetness and the Thai coffee had such a rich, unique flavor! read more
