The Food was Amazing Service is always good, my fav Authentic Chinese restaurant in Dallas

Cute bag I received with my to go order.

I ordered shrimp lo mein to go. It was a big portion and it had an amazing medley of flavors with just the right amount of spice. My order was hot and ready when I arrived to pick it up and the staff was very friendly. Definitely want to dine in soon!

First time try, our best was Walnut Shrimp! Shrimp are coated and fried right. something you want to try. everything else was good Our server was great!

Food was delivered for lunch, so I'm basing my opinion solely on the food, not the atmosphere or service. I got the Chicken Kung Pao. The portion was small. I just feel like it is very overpriced for average Chinese food.

Fantastic Service from the moment you walk into this place. We were greeted and seated immediately and our server was with us within 2 minutes of being seated. The ambiance is pretty neat. It is kind of dark, but dimly lit with ambient lighting. For appetizers we ordered the Crab Rangoons. They were perfectly crispy and the inside crab mixture was fantastic. For my main course I ordered Moo Su Chicken and it was absolutely delicious! Probably the best Chinese food I have had in years! Great experience, I cannot wait to come back again! It was a Wokstar performance!!!

DELICIOUS!!! This place is well decorated and is my new favorite chinese spot! The food is a great proportion if you come with a big appetite. Some plates are big enough for two to share. Their drink menu is also very tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive. Will definitely come back and tell my friends to try as well! 10/10

I came to this restaurant and I got the general tso but shrimp not chicken. Number one this is probably going to be my repeat meal from the moving forward because it was delicious number two. Everything came out very quick and warm and three of the ambience and decor is so fun. I love reading the fortune cookies and how they incorporate the word wok into them. I cannot wait to come back. The bartender as well as the manager were extremely accommodating and friendly, and they made the visit very seamless and smooth.

Ordered delivery on Uber Eats because they were having a buy one get one free promo on a lot of the dishes (got the orange chicken, and beef broccoli - sub beef for tofu). As I was eating my food, I thought it was pretty good... but then lo and behold, as I almost finished my dish, this large bug was hiding in my food. I couldn't even finish it, I was so disgusted. Please work on quality control in your kitchen. I will not be getting any food from here ever again.

This is a freer place to have dinner with friends as the plates are family size. I shared orange chicken and Mongolian beef and they were both delicious. The beef was a bit spicy but very tasty! The chicken was tender and not too sweet. The plates came with steamed rice and it was very well cooked. The service was very friendly and the restaurant was very clean. I definitely recommend for dinner or drinks as they have a bar area.

I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. We came here because the restaurant next door was packed and we didn't want to wait. I'm so glad we came. Service was amazing!! Our waitress gave us recommendations and answered our questions to help us make our final decisions. All our food was fresh and hot. We started with 3 appetizers. Wontons, beef egg rolls, and dumplings with chili sauce. Our favorite was the wontons, but we ate all of them, and they were easy to share. I got hot tea and sake, but they also have a bar and fun cocktails. For our meals, we got green beans with pork, pepper steak, orange chicken, and chicken fried rice. What we didn't know was all the entrees were big enough for 2 people so we had a lot of food and had to take it to go but our leftovers did not go to waste...it was all so good. Then the manager Jia heard it was our first time there and brought us their chocolate boa buns. Can I tell you these were such a treat!! The bun was steamed to perfection, and when you made it to the chocolate, it oozed out!! I can't wait to come again. Don't sleep on this gem!!

Ask the Community - WokStar Chinese

    Does it have free wifi?

No why would it have wifi.

    Do they have happy hour?

I think our server told us that it was from three until six if I remember correctly.

Do they have a lunch menu?

    Yes it's a restaurant.

Is there typically a wait above an hour during the week, also what would you recommend- I look forward to coming here!?

Recommend making a reservation if you can, but I've been able to grab a same day reservation for lunch mid-week. If you are asking about dinner, not sure on the wait and would say try to get a reservation via OpenTable.

Do they offer gluten free options made with tamarin as opposed to soy sauce?

They have gluten free soy sauce you can ask to substitute to. Also most wok entrees that you can ask for no soy sauce

Between the four of us we ordered the roti canai -- with an extra piece of roti, since the base only comes with two, roti murtabak, two orders of the pork belly baos, chili crisp cucumbers, nasi lemak, beef haw fun, and bò tái chanh -- Vietnamese rare beef salad. Overall, the food was outstanding. I feel like the restaurant took all the greatest hits from every Asian culture and put them together on the menu. My favorite dish of the night was a toss up between the rare beef salad, the roti, and the pork belly baos. I loved how crispy and flaky the roti was and the curry dipping sauce that it was paired with was super aromatic, nutty, and rich. The pork belly in the baos was incredibly tender, well-marinated, and had a nice balance between lean and fatty parts. If you enjoy sour dishes, you will love the rare beef salad: there is enough lime in the dish to make you pucker. Every bite is a concentrated punch of flavors, and there is a nice variety of texture between the chopped peanuts, thinly sliced onions, rare beef, and crispy rice cracker. If you're in this part of town looking for a dinner spot, I would not hesitate to recommend Hawkers Asian Street Food. In addition to the solid food menu, the service and drinks were equally spectacular.

We were greeted right away and the restaurant is welcoming with an assortment of booths and some large round tables. The server was friendly and she provided great service throughout our meal. We had the Beef Chow Fun which tasted great and was less oily than versions we have had elsewhere. We also had the combination crispy noodles which were well prepared with tender beef and some great shrimp. We capped it off with the General Tso which was delicious. Yes, completely inauthentic but so tasty!! This restaurant is absolutely one of the best Chinese spots in the DFW area. Highly Reccommended!

But the reviews were suspiciously glowing, so curiosity (and hunger) won. We pulled up and I took one look at the building: older, unremarkable, zero curb appeal. Classic "meh." Inside, several large round tables with lazy Susans, red tablecloths, and Chinese lanterns. They first sat us in a booth but I requested later on to be moved to a large round table since we ordered A LOT. But back to when we first sat in the booth - As a Chinese woman, the second I spotted the older seats with ripped upholstery, it hit me like a culinary prophecy: this place was going to serve me some incredible, authentic Chinese food. I don't know what it is, but there's an inverse law of Chinese restaurants: the less fancy the exterior (and the more the booth looks like it's survived several natural disasters), the better the food. Apparently they skip Instagram-worthy renovations and put the budget where it belongs--on the plate! This is now hands down in my top 3 favorite Chinese restaurant in North Dallas - I can even say it's on the very top. I haven't forgotten about the staff. They deserve 10 stars. Super nice!

The people are the exact same. It was truly a feeling of nostalgia that's hard to describe. My favorite dish has always been, and still is, the bamboo shoots with pork. It is so fragrant, umami, and simply delicious. The west lake soup is also a classic done so well - pro tip to add white pepper to give it a little kick. The steamed pork belly was okay - sauce is flavorful (a touch salty) along with the preserved greens but the pork wasn't as tender as I had remembered it. The fish filets are fried to perfection, full of salt/pepper flavor, and pairs well with the jalapeños. If you don't like fish, you can get the same flavor with the pork version of this dish, which I also really like. The service can be a little slow because it's just 1 chef and 1 waitress who own the restaurant - same people that have run the show since I first came here probably almost 30 years ago! Incredible to see them still working so hard and serving delicious food. They'll never know how much their restaurant and food means to me!

Great flavor and the pork didn't have that weird pork taste some Asian places have. The crispy smoked duck pancake was awesome and worth the steeper price. First, I ordered the Chinese Fried Chicken (half), which is supposed to be brined in soy and hoisin, then deep fried in a light batter. This chicken was no more brined than a rock in the desert, and it was just as dry, even the dark meat pieces. The steamed rice was fine, as was the beautiful bok choy. The dish, overall was a huge disappointment. The chicken lo mein was also a letdown, as it had an underlying sweetness that I've never experienced with this dish. Two bites were taken and it (along with the chicken) ended up in the hotel trash can. A couple of positives: I enjoyed the hot & sour soup, and the egg rolls tasted as if they were rolled in-house, which is a rarity these days. I live a few hundred miles down the road and don't get to downtown Dallas very often, so the odds of me patronizing this place again is already slim. But, in the event I find myself here in the future, I will avoid this restaurant.
