I had a dr appointment down the road and i wanted to try to stop in for lunch prior. While the lunch special is on the expensive side it is quite delicious. The service was very quick and i was able to get in and out within 20 minutes. I wish I would have been able to eat more ( but my time wasn't on my side), this wasn't their fault). Everyone was amazing. The ambiance was lovely (not to formal, but not to laid back either)). The egg drop soup was delicious! I wish they were on my side of town. It reminds me of the old hunan wok before the owner sold. My entrée was pork with garlic sauce. It does say spicy, but I partake in spicy foods, so for me I didn't find it spicy at all. Really fun menu. Dumplings sampler comes out in a fun Steamer and comes with a lovely little dipping sauce and tongs. Very cute. I have tried everything in the veggie section and none disappoints. Kung Pao chicken and Moo Shu pork are also a good choice, but my absolute favorite? The enormous noodles in the chicken dan dan mean and the even larger portions. Service unfortunately is hit or miss. But other than that I enjoy to get it to go order drop in for a quick bite and sit at the bar at lunch as I work sometimes in the area. Fantastic Service from the moment you walk into this place. We were greeted and seated immediately and our server was with us within 2 minutes of being seated. The ambiance is pretty neat. This was my first time to eat at WokStar Chinese restaurant. The restaurant did have a good crowd today for a Sunday, but the restaurant didn't have the staff, very slow service. Not sure if it's like this all the time but today was slow. I had the orange chicken with white rice, I think I get orange chicken everywhere I go when I go to a Chinese restaurant, love it. But, I got my lunch and hate to say that the chicken pieces to the orange chicken was dry and a bit tough to chew like it's been cooked and setting for a while. Very disappointing but the orange sauce on the chicken was delicious, no problem with that. Again, like I said at the beginning the service was slow, I didn't get a refill of tea until more than half way through lunch and my next refill after that is when they brought me my check. Really not sure I would go back to WokStar, there are to many other Chinese restaurants that have better food. Plus, it was a little pricey here. Just my two cents for today. I came to this restaurant and I got the general tso but shrimp not chicken. Number one this is probably going to be my repeat meal from the moving forward because it was delicious number two. Everything came out very quick and warm and three of the ambience and decor is so fun. I love reading the fortune cookies and how they incorporate the word wok into them. I cannot wait to come back. This is a freer place to have dinner with friends as the plates are family size. I shared orange chicken and Mongolian beef and they were both delicious. The beef was a bit spicy but very tasty! Our waitress gave us recommendations and answered our questions to help us make our final decisions. All our food was fresh and hot. We started with 3 appetizers. Wontons, beef egg rolls, and dumplings with chili sauce. Our favorite was the wontons, but we ate all of them, and they were easy to share. I got hot tea and sake, but they also have a bar and fun cocktails. For our meals, we got green beans with pork, pepper steak, orange chicken, and chicken fried rice. What we didn't know was all the entrees were big enough for 2 people so we had a lot of food and had to take it to go but our leftovers did not go to waste...it was all so good. Can't count how many times something has been missing from my to go order. I would guess it is in the 65-70% range. Basically more than half the time something is missing. This time my wife went ballistic and made me go back to pick up what was missing after I had started to spoon my order onto my plate. By the time I got back, my food was, of course cold. I just threw the whole thing in the trash, let her eat hers by herself and left the house to go find a hot meal. The biggest problem is that they staple the F out of your to go bag so you can't look in to make sure everything is there without shredding the paper bag. This has happened over and over and over. If it wasn't 90 degrees at 9pm in Dallas we would have definitely gotten some soup dumplings. But alas. Texas. I gave them another try just because it was convenient. I got the egg drop soup, and it was gross. I barely opened the lid, and a stench hit me. It was a neon yellow and very gelatinous. Also the wonton chips were stale. I really wanted this soup, but all I got was disappointment. I got it to go. It was super loud, but I was greeted quickly. That's the only plus. However with that being said my experience today has been negative - having a customer wait an additional 45 minutes after the promised pick up time for take out is unacceptable. If you are running behind, that's fine, but do not say the food will be ready at 3pm and now it's 3:40pm and I'm still here waiting. Yes things happen and today is a holiday but apparently this has happened to other patrons in years prior and they still haven't fixed their processes. This is not your traditional Chinese restaurant of the 60s and 70s. Started off with a few appetizers, shared with wife. Spring rolls were nicely wrapped and perfectly crispy, lacking that over fried look. I ordered egg drop soup small bowl. Tasted just as good as I had before, so I'm certain that consistency is no issue. For my main dish I ordered the General Tso's chicken. Also crispy and comes with a tangy sauce with a slight burn. On my week long vacay for July 4th in Big D this was one of my top dining experiences. I found them on Yelp and bookmarked them, they were only 8 min from my hotel, and I have to say I was more than surprised at the quality and taste of the food we got here. I would definitely be a weekly customer here if I was a local. I stopped in here at the last minute, they were closing in 30 min, but they welcomed me with open arms - along with another large family who was dining in. I opted to go. Reading the reviews it seems like the best sellers are the Spicy Dry Beef dish, Firecracker Shrimp appetizer, Soup Dumplings, and the Crispy Spicy Shrimp. The Chicken Fried Rice is popular too but that would of been too much for us to handle. I ran those options by the bartender and a server - they all agreed. He also said the flat noodles were awesome too but I stuck with those four dishes and got them to go. They also have an array of sauces to choose from - awesome - their chili oil is superb btw - you gotta get that. All of those dishes were phenomenal, I was so impressed with the taste and quality. I'd say the Spicy Dry Crispy Beef and the Crispy Spicy Shrimp were tops, and close 2nd were the soup dumplings and Firecracker Shrimp. Everything tasted so good, I was like we have to get these guys to come to Austin (call me!). I think they'd go nuts for this cuisine! Service was so great here. Very friendly, no one rushing you out the door even though it was closing soon, and sometimes if you order really late the food is meh - but in this case everything was just so damn good. This place is actually worth a weekend drive for me to head up there and eat my ass off. I was really pleased with everything here, they met all the hype I read about, unique dishes and recipes, excellent service, awesome chili oil, and I was craving to go back there a few days after I got home to Austin.
