When we flag him down and ask for something he say I will be with you shortly. It was a good 10 to 15 minutes. Maybe they were short staffed. Lots of bussers but they were just walking around. We had so many dishes stacked up by the end....but the kids wanted desert. We were sat with the tables with toddlers while our kids are almost 13 and 15 and very well behaved. We can here for a nice new years dinner and they were doing a 4 course price fixed menu. The first course was a grilled octopus with goat cheese and I will say it was the best octopus I have ever had, great flavor and texture. The second was the foie Gras. I had never had this before but I really enjoyed it and will get it again. The main was a nice rare cooked steak with caviar topping which was beautifully cooked and paired well with the caviar. The dessert was a sort of chocolate moose with peppermint candies which was good. I know it was new years eve but it was still a little more expensive than I thought it should have been. But the food was all great and so was the experience. They also have a good cocktail menu but we're lacking a more budget friendly wine bottle selection (the average price of wine was easily over 150) I would go back again though. read more

We had Christmas Eve dinner here and had a great experience. To begin with we were seated at a lovely ocean front patio table. We were seated promptly at our reserved time and were quickly greated with water, friendly service and had our cocktail order taken. The person assigned to our table gave excellent descriptions and explanations for the menu layout and how to order. We started by sharing the chilled grilled octopus which was served on greens with aspargus and a mild, creamy goat cheese. We also shared the Kona clams served with ulu (breadfruit with a potato like taste), radish and chorizo. Both were excellent and while they had rich components we had room for entrees too. I tried a Big Eye dish which was light and seared perfectly. My husband tried the shrimp risotto and declared it the best he had had. I came here twice for brunch and once for dinner in the course of 24 hours haha. The brunch is a good value I think of $49 per person for the buffet (they do not offer menu service). This is because the food is seemingly very very good quality. They have a juice bar with some delicious healthy juices. The price also includes unlimited soft beverages (including espresso drinks with all alternative milks). My favorites were the waffles and breakfast sliders. There is an omelette bar, however, the wait was sooo long for an omelette that I had to ask the waitress to cancel the order. You can go here for breakfast without a reservation with no problem. The dinner: not as good but pretty decent. My friend got the chicken and waffles and LOVED it. I got the Maui fresh catch and it was good but got boring before the end of it. This was my first time on Maui with my wife. We were on Kihei enjoying the food around there, but we wanted some fine dining, so you headed towards Wailea to Ka'ana Kitchen. Make sure to make a reservation prior to going. We went with no expectations, and was delightfully surprised that the it was part of a resort hotel, the Andaz Maui. I saw some reviews and it was supposed to be farm-to-table, so it peaked my interest in getting some local, fresh ingredients on my plate. We started off with some cocktails, a pina colada and a mai tai on an outside table. If you are doing dinner service, get there prior to the sunset, so you and your significant other can enjoy a romantic view of the ocean from your table. There was also a live band covering soft adult contemporary songs. As for service, the staff was well trained and made sure we were checked on periodically in case we needed anything. As for the food, the menu is not big. We ordered this seafood fritter dish that was a special that day. For the main entrees, we got the wild mushroom risotto and the catch of the day (bigeye ahi). All the food was fresh and delicious. The risotto though was a touch too salty, but it's ok. The ambiance took care of that little detail for the dinner service. The hype is correct. It's goooooood! You've heard it all so here are some Pro tips:: walk ins are available nearly everyday. 2ce we went in between 4-5 and got a 7pm (prime time) bar or table reservation for later that day. Those times for a table are booked 6 months out so if you stop by in person, you can generally get something. The 2 bars are lovely to sit at, full menu, and you get to see all the action. Order the guava martini (I swapped gin for tequila and it was magical!) Everything else on the menu was delicious and 5 star, so we sucked it up on the price tag and had a great time! read more

I can see why they've been voted most innovative menu for a few yrs. the cinnamon roll pancakes are light, fluffy and so tasty without being overly sweet. Served with Mac nuts, pineapple pieces and maple syrup, it was a creative and scrumptious dish. The poached eggs with sweet potato cake (purple Molokai yams) was also amazing. Served with some mashed avocado and watercress salad, the flavours blended very well. The service is very friendly and prompt. The outside ocean view is a bonus too at this restaurant. Amazing. This was one of our favorite meals in Maui. We got (in rough order of preference): - Ahi tataki - Black sesame noodles - Grilled octopus - Fried chicken - Coconut sundae - Green ceviche I almost feel bad putting the ahi at the top, since putting ahi next to burrata and tomatoes is almost cheating, but it was awesome. The black sesame noodles were probably the most original item we got, and were outstanding as well. This was such a disappointing dinner. Service was super slow with multiple mistakes, including missing dishes and drinks. Every single fish dish was grossly over cooked - a mistake for this type of restaurant caliber is ridiculous. The salad was inconsistent - we had multiple ahi Caesar salad with different ingredients (some w no croutons, some w no capers, even sauces tasted different). This was probably the most underwhelming meal I had on my trip to Maui. It was grossly overpriced and they served what tasted like hotel tourist food. We ordered the mini tasting menu where you can pick an appetizer, entree, and dessert. The menu only has a few items on it while usually is a good thing but here was the exception. We tried the kona kamachi crudo, and ahi tataki. Both pretty average. These dishes are simple so need to be executed perfectly. Didnt happen here. For our mains we had the wagyu sirloin and maui fish of the day. The maui fish of the day did not taste like it was caught that day. Maybe they didnt prepare it right but it was not up to par with the other seafood we had in Maui. The food also takes a while so get cozy when you come. For dessert we had the cheesecake and lime tart. They tasted like they came off the hotel buffet dessert counter. Not the best. Save your money and go somewhere else. When im home on Maui i always have to go to Ka'ana kitchen my favorite dish( that i hope they never get rid of is the grilled octopus salad) comes with mix, greens goat cheese, grilled octopus topped with a vinaigrette. Kaana kitchen has an outside seating area which is perfect if you want to watch the sunset. It over looks the pool/beach of the andaz hotel. But if you are coming at a later time i would suggest sitting inside where you can watch them cook everything. We've officially learned our lesson. Unjustified expensive NYE prefixed dinner. For $275 a person, the food was mediocre at best and atmosphere was average (no NYE decor or anything). If you're looking to for an upscale dinner, I wouldn't waste money here. Far better options at other resorts where the quality actually meets the price tag. The black sesame noodles and fried chicken were my favourites out of what we ordered and our server was also very helpful with suggesting dishes that would pair well with what we had decided. They also have an extensive wine list and based off the awards placed outside the restaurant, they're well-known for their cocktails and wines! The restaurant provides validation for valet parking at Andaz, so be sure to present your ticket to the server at the end. The restaurant is also located down the stairs from the resort lobby. Though we didn't opt for it, they also offer a Chef's Tasting 6 course experience where you need to book in advance, as well as a"mini-Chef's tasting" where you choose an app, entree and dessert for a set price ($85 omnivore, $65 vegetarian). The selection includes freshly made omelettes (there's a station where you tell the chef what toppings you want in your omelette.) In addition, there's scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, fried rice, chocolate chip pancakes, Belgium style waffles, lillakoi (passionfruit) crepes, French toast along with whipped butter and syrups. There's a whole area of fresh fruits, oatmeal, parfaits, soft cheese, and peach cobbler. The dessert station included Nutella brioche bread, banana nut bread, and other various pastries. They also give you a variety of fresh fruit juices including coconut water and orange juice. (I would advise to sit inside during the morning as sitting outside there are roaming birds that can come near your plate of food.) We loved the buffet so much that we came about 2x during our week stay! For dinner, we came here for desserts and I had coconut ice cream with hot fudge syrup. It was delish. We enjoyed eating our breakfast at Ka'ana daily for our entire 5 days. Each day they changed up the local item, which ranged from fried rice, local beef & hash, Hawaiian ham, and other new items. They had a different islands with various foods from fruits, eggs, bacon, sausage, Portuguese sausage, cheeses, cold meats, hot pastries, and a full juice bar with plenty of fresh squeezed juice choices. They also have a chef making eggs to order that you place with your server. I would say my least favorite was the coffee, all 5 days it tasted bitter and I found myself missing coffee and having to go out to get a good cup to drink. The service is really good, they keeps things fresh and always looking to make your breakfast enjoyable. Your cannot beat the view of the ocean while you eat on the balcony area. She's a striCT no meat person so finding a place that could accommodate this and still have a great tasting meal was kind of a challenge all week. We were living in a Kihei side so not so many options for dinner. However this place was great. We had some amazing food options. The highlights were definitely the flavors in the appetizers and the desert. 1. the dragon fruit salad, which wasn't really dragon fruit but Dragonfruit infused salad dressing over greens. It was amazing. The other highlight app wise was the black sesame Sauced soba noodles. These were amazing as well. I wasn't as impressed with the roast eggplant dish, it seem like it was searching for particular flavor. I also had the Ahi belly (I'm not vegan LOL) but it came out fairly lukewarm but due to the wait I just ate it. Though we were hoping they would've intervened right at the start :( We came to Ka'ana kitchen to celebrate my cousin's engagement. After seeing all the positive Yelp reviews, I was sold this would be the perfect place for the occasion. Sadly this was not the case at all. The food was decent, but overpriced (though what's not in Maui, right?). The Wagyu Rib Cap was actually surprisingly good - tender and perfectly seasoned. Fried chicken was also impressive. The two things that completely ruined it for us are the following: 1) The service was ridiculously slow. Took about 20min to get 3 non-alcoholic drink orders. It took another 10-15 min for the waiter to get our food orders, so we only started eating probably an hour after sitting down. 2) The worst part was this. There was a 10-people table that sat 15 ft away from us, being extremely loud, obnoxious and saying curse words left and right. We have kids in our party and the staff did absolutely nothing. On one occasion, they even fueled the behavior by partaking in the chaos. We were absolutely livid. We asked for the restaurant manager to complain and no one came. We thought this was a restaurant with a classy atmosphere, but was completely opposite of that. It overshadowed our joyous occasion. Head Chef Chance Savell created the most magical combination of what seemed like for me, new experimental flavors I didn't know existed before. The watermelon salad, baby romaine salad and grilled octopus salad... not one sliver of a complaint, just stars in my eyes and mouth; Perfect string trio harmony as I heard the angels sing. Then the ribs, risotto and stew... you know the feeling where you feel overwhelmed with gratitude & satisfaction and the responsible thing is to put your fork down? Our experience at Ka'ana Kitchen was fantastic. We did the chef's tasting menu and the wine pairings to match. This was one of the best meals we had on our honeymoon. We were sat right next to the open kitchen which my husband loved watching all the food being prepared. The server was very attentive and informative when explaining each dish the chef sent out and the wine director brought us each tasting of wine explained where it came from and the flavors we should notice while tasting our wine and our food. Everything is right on point! We have 6 ppl so we almost ordered everything on the menu. For appetizers, the Ahi takati (pretty sure I spell it wrong) is fantastic. Pork belly and octopus are also very good. For main course, I really like the Maui fresh caught. It is so fresh! It's not fishy at all and the texture of the meat is exactly what I am looking for. The scallop risotto is good but not that outstanding. The scallop on top is super fresh tho. The Wagyu steak is good and worth a try. Service is fantastic. Our servers pay attention to our table tho it is in the far corner. She also wrote congratulations on my dessert plate once she knew it's my graduating travel. Dinner only review. Ka'ana is selected as Maui Eaters Essentials and features Hawaiian local farm to table cuisine. I had high hope for this fancy Andaz resort restaurant with ocean and infinity pool view, unfortunately was quite disappointed. First the receptionists were surprisingly cold for a high end Hawaiian resort, and made us wait past our reservation time for a table that was empty the whole time we waited, one right next to the high traffic main staircases for the whole hotel. The selection was very limited, with the "land" section featuring mostly steak (no chicken, duck, pork, lamb or other more interesting cut of beef). The mahi mahi catch of the day was prepared in an unpleasing vinegary broth, and there were at least two unopened not fresh clams served in bland tasting curry broth. The ahi appetizer had the smallest tuna pieces comically featured on top of big pieces of tomatoes. To be fair, the food overall wasn't terrible, it was just pretentious without delivering flavor and and variety of the touted farm to table concept, and the overall experience does not deserve even half of the price it was charging. Monkeypod is a much better alternative to those seeking fresh local ingredients cooked in blend of Italian and Hawaiian styles. read more

Our server explained that they encourage sharing and for a party of 3 she would recommend us ordering 4-6 dishes. The flower next to the dish indicates a bigger portion. The three of us decided on the black sesame noodles and the watermelon salad for our appetizers and the fish, fried chicken, and abalone risotto for our shared entrees. I felt the portions were just right because we didn't leave a bite and left full. My standouts were the black sesame noodles and the fish! I also really enjoyed the compressed watermelon and the fried chicken and butter mochi. We didn't even have room for dessert! Even when our server talked about the guava chiffon cake and made it sound amazing! But the butter mochi that accompanied the fried chicken was so yummy, I wanted that to be the last thing I remembered in my meal. Lastly, the portion for the menu items is small (even for the ones marked as main dishes / entrees). If you're a lighter eater (or on a calorie watch program), you may find their entree's size appropriate; but if you're very hungry, you will need multiple appetizers. Breakfast at Ka'ana Kitchen is AMAZING, and it's honestly been one of the highlights of our trip! There's both outdoor and indoor seating, and the food selection at the buffet is impeccable. There's everything from mochi waffles (slightly sweet and gluten free!), french toast, and Nutella crepe-like pancakes to an omelette station, pastry spread, and all the classic breakfast options like fruit, oatmeal, bagels, bacon, and sausage. There are 4+ fresh squeezed juices, and my husband has loved the rotating Asian-inspired dishes. Who doesn't want to eat noodles or fried rice for breakfast? And I honestly don't know what I'm going to do when I go home and can't eat waffles with whipped cream and berries every morning. Service has been a little hit or mess. Sometimes we're stuck waiting for the check for 30+ minutes. Sometimes they put it down when we haven't even returned with our first plate from the buffet. One time they flipped our tables for the next guests while we were up getting more food. But the food is worth the slight troubles, and they've gone above and beyond with accommodating gluten free (offering to make me fresh waffles to avoid cross contamination and pan fry gluten free toast). This place thrills my inner foodie! Amazzzzing food! I recommend getting a few appetizers and mains for the table to share. My favorite starters: the wagyu, grilled octopus and anything with Ulu (Hawaiian bread fruit) My favorite main courses: risotto and fried chicken (it comes with a French toast-like type bread underneath that tastes so good with the chicken). The menu is small, but the food was tasty and the service was great. Worth going and pretty views. The set up of the hotel for dinner was off though. The exit and entrance for the luau goes right through the center of where many of the tables are set up. So during dinner you get a sea of people walking through and by your table. FOOD yummy points for the dinner watermelon salad, which is a rectangle slab of watermelon with lettuce and jam sauce on the plate with other goodies that combine well for a party in your mouth. Risotto as an entree was good too! Pork belly appetizer was good too. For dessert I was in love with their chocolate cake topped with ice cream and poured the hot chocolate all over with the side of macadamia nuts that come with it. * drool * Breakfast buffet was wow overwhelming and good too. I wish I had a second stomach to eat everything. Definitely get something at the juice bar even though the guy manning it didn't seem so happy. SERVICE you can tell the staff are highly well trained and I learned they all were screened to have personable personalities. So no complaints about the service. VENUE wow for a great view either during the day or during sunset when you sit outside on the patio. Writing this review as someone who was looking for vegan/vegetarian options. The staff were extremely accommodating to our dietary preferences & restrictions, which was especially a breath of fresh air for Maui considering there aren't many vegan/vegetarian options on the island. Our server was quick to offer us alternatives and ideas. The (non-vegan) coconut ice cream sundae was wonderful. I would have come back again and again for it if they weren't so booked. Tip: Make reservations in advanced. When we initially called, they were booked up for the next week. Asked to be placed on the waitlist and you might be able to get a spot. Also, the menu on Yelp is outdated. They switch up the menu often to fit with the season's offerings. read more
