I was in Ventura for work and needed a spot to take a beat and do some preparation. The coffee selection was great and the seats comfortable. Over a couple hours, I enjoyed an iced mocha with oat milk, avocado toast, and samosas. Each were delicious, especially the samosas. Even better than the food, though, was the service. I had mentioned that I was a little nervous about my work, and on the to-go box for the samosas, they included the note, "you've got this!" I found it incredibly thoughtful and encouraging. (And it turns out I did have it. :)) I hope the opportunity to go to Ventura arises again so I can go back to Kaapicat. read more

I love this place. Anytime I can drive here from Santa Barbara I do. I love the marine layer (like a London fog with rose I think ) and they have this small Indian Mexican fusion coffee shop menu. All the food has delicious flavor.The brunch was delicious. And now they started carrying vegan chia pudding from this company I love. I'm not vegan but love this pudding. read more

French press coffee is fabulous. I love their matcha... it isn't pre-sweetened so you can get it unsweetened which is hard to find in a coffee shop. We got the masala frittata and an almond croissant. Both were fabulous! The cafe is darling... modern and cozy. Love the couches. read more

Had a wonderful experience with my daughter today, talking with one of the owners and trying out several items for a mid-afternoon treat. The cardamom chai and "marine layer" tea were both delish, and the idli was a perfect savory snack with several amazing chutneys. Yum. My daughter also loved the pumpkin muffin, and after I mentioned how she liked samosas and we'd try next time, the owner brought over a samosa for her to try out. A really awesome fusion of Indian and Mexican ingredients -- a truly original and tasty samosa treat! Service was outstanding, and the owners were really kind and personable. Would recommend to anyone wanting to try a little something new! Definitely is now on our list of favorite places to hit up. The decor was airy and light and spacious and clean. My new favorite restaurant. It's hard to find the platonic ideal of a summer drink: an iced rose matcha latte. It's harder to find perfectly crisp dosas with a perfectly cooked and seasoned potato filling. It's hardest to find Mexican/Indian fusion, like their Masala chilaquiles, that tastes like it's supposed to be made that way. I wish I took photos but I ate too fast. Super cute and fun new coffee shop downtown! There were three of us that came in and we were the only ones, this afternoon, on a Friday. Ordered two ice lattes with different syrups. They have several iced latte flavors which was really unique! The coffees were delicious and the gentleman with us, who ordered an Americano, was very happy as well. The only reason why I gave them four stars is because the girl at the counter seemed to be pissed off that we were there. Other than that - I highly recommend this new little gem downtown! read more

My husband and I had an incredible experience at Kaapicat Cafe! We were walking down Main St. on our way to the Farmers Market and saw the cute storefront and a line of people being served from an outdoor griddle. We had to check it out! We ordered a lassi, a masala dosa and filtered coffees (Kaapi). Everything was absolutely delicious! Mina the chef is a delight to talk to and was so warm and welcoming to us! We were planning on just stopping by briefly, but ended up spending over an hour in the cafe and really enjoyed our time there. Me and my family returned from Long Beach on the way to Bay Area. We stopped to dine in at Kaapicat. We ordered Podi Dosa, Uthappam and Paniyaram. To our surprise all of them tasted how we make at our home. This is , after we have tried so many south Indian veg restaurants in Bay Area. The paniyaram had good consistency more importantly did not taste sour or ferment more as is the case in so many other restaurants. The Dosa was very good complemented by the Chutneys. Uthappam was soft as well and tasted good. I went back in to thank the chef/owner and he told about his family and where it all came from. I am not sure if people who r not originally from South India could find the difference, but for me it was like home food away from home. Came here for a quick Mother's Day breakfast before going for a Mother's Day surf, decided it wasn't too early for a chicken sandwich. holy Jesus. That chicken sandwich keeps me up at night. just knowing I will never eat something that good until I come back again. The spicy mango sauce that comes with the sandwich was so perfectly paired it blew my socks off. 10/10 best chicken sandwich of my life. Love this unique new coffee/tea/food spot, it has it all! My husband is Pakistani so he was especially excited to try the samosas and being married for the last 8 years I've gotten to experience a lot of authentic chai! So we stopped in last week, I ordered the cardamom chai, it was so delicious and tasted so similar to what my in laws serve, but better with extra cardamom flavor, served with milk and slightly sweetened it was delicious. My husband got the Kaapi, which is an Indian filter coffee, it was also served with milk and it was deliciously strong coffee, if I don't want chai I will for sure be ordering a Kaapi next time. Lastly we shared the samosas. They were made by hand right in front of us they were delicious and served with 3 chutneys that were all so fresh and yummy. The vibe was great, it's beautifully decorated and has plenty of room inside and out, including room to work on laptops and plug in. A great new addition to Ventura's Main Street. Different from anything else and town. We tried the samosa, masala dosa, and the shaksuka. All three were excellent, with the dosa being our favorite. The dishes were flavorful and nicely presented and just the right size for lunch. Light, but filling enough. We also ordered the cherry cheese danish, which was very tasty. My wife had the cold brew and it was excellent; as good as any of the area coffee shops. I had the cardamom chai and was impressed. Not a chai latte from a mix like at so many places, but a more traditional chai of tea, milk, and spices. Very personal, home-cooked food that's fresh, light, and flavorful. I had panner dosa when this place opened. It was soo good that I recommended it to my friends and went back. But the quality has kept deteriorating since then. On the second visit, I got the same item to go and got a frozen sambar and chutney. On the third visit, I got a mediocre dosa. When the person who made it asked me how the food was, I mentioned it was better than what I had before. He said that the batter hadn't set well. Shouldn't they remove it from the menu if that is the case? And today, it is so bad, as if they gave me yesterday's leftovers. Very disappointed. The worst part is that the guy who makes it knows that is the case, and it still does it.
