Kabob Cafe is a great restaurant. The food is consistently fresh and delicious. I've had both the kabob joojeh which is big chunks of marinated boneless chicken, very good. I've also had the kabob barg which is grilled marinated steak, my favorite of the two. I ask for the steak medium well, unless you like a well done steak which is how they normally cook it. The kabob platters come with basmati rice and a side. I've tried the shurazi salad and the cauliflower salad, both were tangy and fresh, which complimented the kabob platters well. The desserts are very rich and decadent, the young lady at the counter said they are homemade. For the price point I would've liked to get two sides which is why I didn't give them 4 stars. First of all, I know Persian food. I am Persian and I have eaten at dozens of Persian restaurants from California to D.C. and from Toronto to London, not to mention at the homes of family and friends. I cook these same foods for my own family at home, when I have the time and energy to do so. Kabab Cafe in Wayne serves excellent, mouth-watering Persian kabobs, at a very reasonable price, in a fast-casual atmosphere in the Philadelphia suburbs. I have tried three things here so far: the beef kubideh kabob, the filet mignon (barg) kabob, and the chicken (joojeh) kabob. The kubideh kabob ($12) is very tasty. The barg ($14) is incredibly delicious - one of the best barg kabobs I've had. These are select cuts of filet mignon sliced thin, skewered and grilled to perfection. No Iranian kabob house will ever ask you "how would you like your steak cooked." Iranians do not cook meats "rare" or "medium" - everything is medium-well to well-done, but still juicy and full of flavor. The chicken kabob, which they call joojeh, was tasty as well, though it must be said that "true" joojeh kabob is typically made with cornish hens, bone-in, not boneless breast meat. The restaurant offers combo platters so you can sample multiple kabobs. The soltani platter includes kubideh and barg and costs $16. They also have a variety of side dishes. My personal favorite is mast-o-kheyar, which is yogurt with cucumber. Most places also include dried mint, but here you must ask for it separately. Overall, Kabab Cafe is as good as it gets in the Philadelphia area. It is superior to many kabob places I have been to in areas with heavy Iranian populations like Toronto, D.C. or Los Angeles. The kubideh here is better than Moby Dick in D.C., and I speak as someone who had Moby Dick in Virginia on Monday and just ate here again today (Wednesday). It needs to be said that falafel and hummus are not Persian food items and I would imagine you'll find a more accurate rendition at an actual Lebanese or Palestinian restaurant. I have never ordered these things (nor would I ever eat a falafel when kabob is available close at hand) so I cannot speak for those menu items. If I wanted a gyro, I would go to a greek place, and I would go to a lebanese place for falafel or hummus. When dining at Kabab Cafe, you should really order the kabobs because that is what this place is about. read more

It's a great, little Persian eatery . They feature classic Persian dishes like Doner (otherwise, known as Gyro) and Koobideh (which is my favorite). Koobideh is basically a marinated hamburger grilled as a kabab, but done well, it is delicious. They serve it with white rice and a baked tomato. They also have family dinner packs featuring various types of kabab dishes with bread and salad for $59. I usually get my Persian fix at my friend's (who is a Persian) or at the Persian Grill Restaurant in Lafayette Hill, but this little eatery is a quite satisfactory proxy. read more

So I would probably rate this place 4 stars, however, the service received there and how nice the lady behind the counter was pushed it over to a 5. I tried this place yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. First, when we came in, she greeted us and made us feel very comfortable, she asked if it was our first time there. It was both me and a friend's first time. She then proceeded to explain the entire dinner menu to us, giving us recommendations along the way on which she really liked. Immediately after, she brought out two small sample cups of rice and some of the meat. Spectacular service. She was extremely friendly throughout our whole experience there and was very accommodating. The food was very delicious, very fresh and all tasted great. We ordered a family dinner (says for 6 on the menu) however our party of 5 was easily able to finish the entire meal. Went here after going to Trader Joe's down the road. Excellent food. We got the #3 platter, which is beef and chicken kebab, along with a side of hummus and lentil-spinach soup. The hummus is very good, as were the kebabs (my wife didn't care for the chicken that much, she thought it was a touch dry, but I didn't think so). The customer service was excellent. There were some food allergy concerns, but those were easily checked into. The prices are a little high, but the portions are generous. My wife and I split one platter (plus the hummus) and left pleasantly full. My only complaint pertains to the dishes. Cheap to-go dishes for a dine in restaurant make me feel like not dining in. But I am also not inclined to take out food. So if I'm going to eat somewhere, I'd like to have a pleasant experience at the restaurant itself so that the food is fresh and hot -- and eating off of cheap styrofoam with plastic utensils isn't that pleasant. read more

I love Iranian food and I used to like this place, but I will not return to Kabob Cafe. I used to bring my Iranian friends here for lunch if they were in town and my husband and I would come if we wanted fast food Persian for dinner. I do enjoy the food at KC so that is not the reason that I will not be returning . I will not return because the girl at the counter really infuriated me. My husband and I went to KC for dinner and my husband ordered the Koobideh, what came out was Joojeh kabob (more expensive). When my husband went to the counter to point out that the order was wrong, the girl argued "You said, Joojeh Kabob, and I even read the order back to you!" This was flat out lie, I speak fluent Farsi, I have made and eaten Persian food for over 10 years, I clearly understand the names and differences between entrees. I was there, I heard what my husband ordered and she did not repeat our order to us or any of the customers who came after us. My husband has a very slight accent and I can understand that people make mistakes and misunderstandings happen, but she lied right to our face and didn't even offer to make the correct the problem she just argued without an apology. We ate the food that we didn't order, and left. I found this to be exceptionally poor customer service and we will not be returning. I hope they work this problem out, but I have no interest in a place where the people try to manipulate customers after they make a mistakes on your order. read more

Excellent food, very clean, knowledgeable staff that greets everyone, nice vegetarian option. Prices are good and match the portion size. You won't leave here hungry. The platters are a rice and meat dish, the rice is Basmati and the meat is chicken, beef, or lamb that has been marinated. The Gyros are delicious. They do a steady lunch crowd and night time is take out. They have a BBQ chicken and Buffalo chicken platters and gyros if you are looking for something familiar. Try the Shirazi, it diced vegetables in oil and vinegar. They are very good about samples fi you're not sure about something. The food is very authentic and is frequented by people who used to live in Iran, Turkey, and India. Always a good sign when the locals eat at a restaurant. read more

Very good food + good value + great service = 5 stars. My familiy loves the Persian food - especially the Jujeh (Chicken) Kabab and the Koobideh (Ground Beef) Kabobs. We love the side dishes that come with the main dishes - salad shirazi and mastokhichar (Yogurt with mint and cucumber). We recently had Kabab Cafe cater our daughter's wedding - we ordered 6 different Persian foods as main dishes (chicken and beef kabobs, eggplant stew (badam Joon), vegetable stew (ghormeh sabzi), pomegranate and walnut stew (fesenjoon), Rice with berries and pistachio (Zhorezk pollo). The food was excellent and all the guests raved about it. The owner provided plenty of food - we had more than enough for the guests. The hor'dorves were also excellent - we had our choice of many varieties and it was prepared in an elegant manner for our guests. The service for the wedding from Kabab Cafe's owner was beyond our expectation - he was extremely polite and helpful in every way and offered suggestions for the wedding reception that were very helpful. We are always game for middle-eastern food of all varieties, and Kabab fit right in with our taste. The eggplant/onion/tomato salad is enough (with bread) for a meal of it's own, but I added a side of Falafel just to see how they do it. Flatter than most, but crispy on the outside without being dried out on the inside, would definitely eat them again. Hubby got the lamb kebab wrap which he claimed was outstanding other than the gristle in the first bite. Reasonable prices, would come again when we are in the area. read more

Met a friend for lunch. The place is very clean, bright, and cheery. It was not crowded when we arrived but was packed by the time we left. They have a variety of middle-eastern \ Persian dishes and sandwiches. I had the felafel sandwich and my friend had the Doner. Each sandwich comes with a side which you can pick from their cold display case. They have quite a wide selection of sides from a regular salad to middle-eastern creations - about 7 or 8 choices. We found a table outside. Our sandwiches were made to order and brought to our table. My felafel arrived still warm in grilled flat bread with lettuce, onion, a tomato chutney, and with a yogurt sauce on the side. I had also had an eastern vegetable pasta salad as my side. The felafels were perfectly cooked and spiced - delicious. I am looking forward to going back and trying it again. read more

First, I don't really know Persian food at all. I was looking for Lebanese, and this was the closest I could find in the area. To give an idea of what we're looking at, this really is a cafe, not a restaurant--there is no table service. Which is fine; just know what you're going for. I found the service extremely friendly and inviting. Menu items were lucidly explained and suggestions were helpful. We went at lunchtime, so my wife got the lunch sandwich special ($4.99), and I the platter special ($7.99). Mine was the doner platter (which was, to my tongue, gyro meat served over rice) My meal was good. It didn't transport me like I was looking for (when I was hoping for Lebanese), but then I don't have much of a frame of reference for this cuisine. I wouldn't tell my friends "you HAVE to try this place", but I would recommend it. It satisfied me for lunch--and the leftovers for dinner. read more

Went there last night with my daughter. Very friendly staff, and appears to be family run. Decor was nice enough, very clean, but nothing special. Had the chicken breast platter. Have tried a few kebab places on the East Coast in the past few years, and this is by far, the best. Comparable to my favorite place in Los Angeles. The platter comes with the chicken, rice, roasted tomatoe and a choice of 1 side. I had the pasta salad, which was decent and my daughter had the olives, which she really liked. It also comes with some very good, and hot, bread. Very, very good overall. Had great flavor and high quality ingredients. I will definitely be going back. Not the cheapest place to eat, but I think it is pretty fairly priced for what you get. We went for an early dinner, and the place wasn't that full. Our wait time was not that long at all. read more

Let me start by saying that the food is wonderful, and the woman who is usually working at the register is very helpful and friendly. I've never had a bad meal. So, why 2 stars? 1. plastic/paper plates and utensils 2. (and this is the main reason) We have recently noticed that the tables smell like the bathroom floor! We were noticing that the restaurant has started smelling like a public bathroom, when we finally figured out that it's the tables! I thought that maybe they were mopping the unisex bathroom floor with the same mop that they used for the eating area, but then, we stuck our noses into the table. Voila! Smells like old urine. We absolutely love this place, but after realizing that we were eating off of a table that was washed with a rag that must have been used to clean the bathroom, we are not anxious to return. We'll give it some time, return, and see if the problem has been remedied. I do have a sensitive nose, but the 3 other people at the table agreed with me. I would do take-out from there, but if they are that unsanitary with the tables, can we trust what goes on in the kitchen? On a good note, I did see the woman behind the counter, wash her hands after sneezing. Kudos to her. I recommend a disinfectant spray and paper towels for the tables! No old rags! read more

My company occasionally orders catering from this place and it's always popular. I stopped in for lunch today and was mildly excited to see they had some cheap lunch specials. Unfortunately, the cheap ones weren't appealing to me so I got the doner platter instead. It was a little over $12 after tax but had enough food for almost two people! I ate around half of it -- and I am a 225 lb guy who loves to eat -- so now I have leftovers for dinner. Service was quick and friendly, and the cashier gave a helpful recommendation.
