Tried this place for lunch today. It was a bit on the pricey side but the food was high quality. There were a few good vegan options. I ordered the falafel platter. Great flavors, very fresh, everything was quite good. It doesn't come with any salad or sauces though. Just falafel, hummus, lavash, feta and mint leaves. When he first set it down I was worried it would be too plain but everything was seasoned very well and didn't really need any added sauces. As an entree I think it leaves just a little bit out. Probably perfect as an appetizer. I ordered a side salad to go with it and I'm glad I did. Although it was extremely filling I was glad to have a bit more variety and veggies to round it out. Next time I think I will order a wrap with all the fixings or one of the kabob plates. I kept seeing plates of that stuff go by and it looked really good with generous portions of rice and salad to go with. My friend ordered the french fries and I tried some. They were very good. Above average french fries for sure. So to summarize the food was very good. Just a little bit pricey but not too bad as it was quality. The service was good. The ambiance is fairly nice inside even though it's in a tiny strip mall. Am definitely going to try it again. read more

Shared the chicken and beef kabob combo along with the salad. The flavor and juiciness of the chicken in both dishes was wonderful. 5 star to me but one of us did get one piece of chicken which wasn't up to par. The beef was good but not nearly as flavorful. In terms of sides, the hummus and tzaziki were both very good. Rice was pretty boring. Salad had a very lemony dressing which I loved but could be too much for some. I moved to San Rafael over a year ago and have been wanting to eat here since week 1. A friend of mine took me to a restaurant just a few doors down when I noticed Kababbq. I love the name and am a huge fan of Mediterranean food. It wasn't until yesterday that I finally made it in and I'm slapping myself for not having gone sooner! I'm only giving this place 4 stars because although it was busy, it took quite a while to get our appetizers and food. The patient wait aside, WOW. I had the lamb kabobs while my friend had the traditional beef kabobs and both were spectacular. The saffron basmati rice was killer and their traditional salad-well, let's just say I could eat it all day, every day. Our server (I cannot remember his name for the life of me!) was AWESOME. He answered every question we had, made suggestions, was very attentive and just downright nice. The entire experience was wonderful and I cannot wait to go back and try everything else on the menu! Yummy food with quick service! It's tucked away in a hidden strip mall by a bunch of car dealerships, don't pass it by!

We were quite disappointed in our meal recently; it was dinner and we are a group of chefs that were eager to eat quality Persian food. Unfortunately this was our first (and last) time visiting this restaurant. We ordered the falafel appetizer plates with hummus, shirazi salads, joojeh chicken breast kabob plates with rice. The order of falafel comes with 3 pieces of falafel with the equivalent of 3 tablespoons of hummus for $8.50; and unfortunately the falafel and hummus were not well prepared and seasonless. The shirazi salads were not fresh, it was obvious that they were prepared earlier in the day or even the prior day. The joojeh kabobs were as hard as a rock. More importantly, the rice DID NOT have any saffron as there was no hint of saffron flavor, but was yellow which makes us assume it had some alternative yellow coloring (not even turmeric as an alternative - which are really the only spices that are yellow when cooked). Food coloring maybe? Also, generally in Persian restaurants the plates are full with rice, here they serve you very small amount??? The kitchen was a nightmare as we passed by to use the restroom, which was equally awful. Overall a very big disappointment and we were super letdown. read more

We've heard great things about this restaurant from a friend and so decided to check it out. The space is small and basic - no frills or decorations - which is fine. However, the food reflected the environment, no frills, just basic. I felt like I was eating imitation Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food. There was an abundance of bland jasmine rice, with a "burnt" tomato on the side (I know the tomato is supposed to be mildly cooked/burned, but mine was burnt, as in black!), and a chicken kabab, which I had to keep button lemon juice on it because it was dry. I've had my share of Mediterranean restaurant foods, and my in-laws are from that region, so I know good Mediterranean/ME food when I taste it, but this was a disappointment. Another Groupon Home Run. Although off the beaten path, not hard to find if you know where you're going. I like the location, being near the water & boats. Easy Parking. Light, clean, comfortable interior. Greeted right away by our server who turned out to be one of the partners. Really obvious they care about what they are doing & take great pride. We had one of the combo platters, & hummus. My husband loved the complimentary feta cheese with basil & bread they brought & they gladly bought more when he asked. We read multiple reviews that praised this place for their kababs and met up with 4 other friends for lunch. We were not disappointed. Based on previous reviews we went for the family pack and had a combination of lamb, chicken, shish (steak), shrimp and vegetable kabobs. All were delicious and seasoned well. The service was excellent and extremely friendly. Our appetizers (hummus, yogurt and tomato/cucumbers) were also superb. Since this was a location that was central to our group (about an hour away for two couples) this was a great find and a place we all agreed would be worth returning to. We had Kababbq take-out tonight - first time - and it was great. Will definitely go back. The Mix Beef skewers were moist and excellent in the pita with the generous condiments of tomato salad and hummus. The vegetarian Ali's Special falafel wrap was big enough for two, very fresh tasting, and a great meal in itself. The cucumber and yogurt could have had more cucumber but was a nice accompaniment. And I wouldn't expect to find a pickle in the pack, but a pickle it was; it wasn't dill, but a unique and tasty pickle nonetheless. The owner couldn't have been nicer or more helpful and, wtih the easy on/off from the freeway on the way home from work, next time the cook (me) takes the night off, we'll be back. read more

This place is a hidden gem that has consistently good food and is very reasonably priced. I have been 3 times, and two of those included bringing my 2-year old. My boyfriend and I have pretty much made this place a weekly thing. The portions are huge, the prices are pretty spot on for what you're getting (especially considering Marin's laughably high food prices), but the best part is that it is absolutely delicious....all of it....everything. We usually order the combo plate with the koobideh and the chicken. Both are melt in your mouth insane. Whatever they marinade the chicken in is straight up food crack. And the koobideh is super flavorful and moist. The combos come with two generously portioned sides. The rice is good and I love the almost overly lemony flavor of their hummus. We usually do take out but decided to eat in the restaurant this last time and the service was great. It's just two guys and the chef in the back, but they were attentive and personable, and gave us tips on what to order next time. Everything is super fresh and the meat is top quality. Its not masked over by tons of spices or char. Everything is simple and delicious. Definitely do yourself a favor and try this place :) read more

The food hear tastes very healthy and flavorful and I especially recommend the lamb. The side dishes are nothing special but the entries are really good. The decor is nice and the service is very good--very friendly staff. There's a small area for eating outside as well. Not a whole lot of parking during busy times. The food was not bad, just not what I expected and i certainly was not full when I left.
