FOOD: DEE-LISH! very impressed! quite honestly, i wasnt expecting much of this place since its a very small to-go restaurant, with staff that seemed a little all over the place but somehow they made it work. We got the garlic naan, chicken makhani curry, and chicken kabobs. every single dish was delicious! I would say be cautious of spiciness though for those who cant handle spice..they naturally make every dish spicy. PRICE: SO HAPPYYYY, we spent $30 for a whoooole bunch of food, and the owner is very friendly, he threw in extra sauce, raita (a yogurt dressing), and chopped onions for free! Just beware to bring cash - it's not cash only but i believe there was a pretty high card minimum so if you're dining alone, definitely bring cash. ATMOSPHERE: like i said, hole in the wall spot, so find a cute place to go afterwards. we picked it up and headed back to the apartment to eat it over some netflix - perfect night in. WILL I BE BACK? Best beef seekh kabobs in NY, hands down. The simplicity the taste with Chatni sauce and the salad on the side with Naan; this place has a reputation that is second to none. A hole in a wall, no seating strictly take out. Did I mention coal fired grill and clay oven tandoor which makes the food taste so much better, yes! A real tandoor is indispensable to bake the most tasty breads as well as any 'tandoori' and most 'tikka' dishes, and of course "kabobs". There is just no other kitchen appliance that can provide the 500°F necessary to do the job. You can try all you want in an oven, the results will never taste nearly half as good. I've been coming here for many many years and they seem to be unparalleled when it comes to consistency. I love this place. So many good things to say about this place. Great service. First of all, this place is legit authentic. My friend claims it's like the spices are strong and absolutely worth the hole-in-the-wall feel. So maybe this is not the place for the first date, unless your date appreciates authentic delicious meals without the pretension. I would say this is great if you like tasty portions with some heat. The garlic naan has full pieces of garlic slivers in it baked right in and is so good. The salad was sprinkled with an unknown spice that had a nice aroma. I also ordered the chicken kebab roll. It was huge and so flavorful. I was sad when I ate it all. I sincerely felt that the kababs though were out of this world. My friend ordered the bihari chicken and claimed it burned so nice...just perfect were his exact words. They were a blend of heaven and spice and just all things great in the universe. FYI: there are literally 3 stools, so it's not a group place unless you taking all the good stuff to go. I would highly recommend this place. read more

It was our great restaurant before we went there last Sunday from westchester county for there kebabs. But it was down grade from kebabs no taste, naan was rock, and chicken baldi no taste at all. The service was extremely bad they forgot to take our order finally the waiter came took our order from his iPhone not written paper it was biggest joke. If I was the owner I would fire him immediately. Then finally I ask for the check they took my card and they forgot me again looking for my bill n the credit card. If you're looking for super spicy, or late night grub then Kababish is the place to go. They don't do their own delivery but you can get it from Uber Eats, which is great. We ordered a variety of different kebabs, chicken leg tandoori, chicken tikka masala, chicken chili, palak paneer, garlic naan. It was great flavors but just be warned nothing here is mild so you better like some spice in your mouth! read more

First, I saw a long hair on carrot halwa while I was picking up my food then I came home expecting a good meal and guess what? I found nails in my food. 4 FINGER FUCKING NAILS! Are you serious? Naans were also not fully cooked. I specifically asked for well done with sesame seeds. I got my naan with no sesame seeds and not cooked properly. While I have been a customer for years, I've been very patient with staff for messing up almost every order in the last 6 months. Squealing like a little girl, he agitatedly got up from the metal stool and held up the thread he had just discovered in his Styrofoam plate. "I didn't expect this place to be very hygienic", said Boss-Man. "but, is this your way of sticking it to me?" "Relax. That thread is supposed to be there", as I explained the dish to him: 'Gola Kabab' is the softest (and perhaps most delicious) Kabab you can possibly have, with an absolute melt-in-the-mouth texture! (Since that day, Boss-man is also a big fan). The meat is minced (beaten into submission would be more like it), a plethora of fiery hot spices are added to it, it's put around the skewer and tied together with a string. Basically, the meat is so soft that it would fall off the skewer, if the string weren't holding it in place. You need to eat it hot off the skewer, otherwise the magic's gone. Kababish claims to be the first restaurant in North America to offer Gola Kabab, and I have no reason to dispute that assertion. This is (almost) a lost art with few practitioners remaining in India (Delhi) as most skilled 'Kababchi' (Kabab chef, much like a pizzaiolo) migrated to Pakistan at the time of India's independence from the Brits. The skilled kabab chef at Kababish is a humble, soft spoken, bearded gentleman from Karachi (Pakistan), who is respectfully addressed as 'Chacha' (Uncle) within the place. He is leagues ahead of other practitioners in the U.S. It's a skill that few fully appreciate. The Kababchi has to be both good at the proportion of spices used and knowing when to take the skewer out of the oven, to avoid it being over/under cooked. Chacha is simply brilliant. You can tell the difference between his work and that of the others, and so I don't advise anyone to come here on his day off (usually Thursday). Kababish is almost a catering kitchen (though by intent: a take-out restaurant) and sadly, there is no seating capacity like most 'street food' places in India and Pakistan. It has many claims of distinction, including the introduction of Haryali Kabab, and using charcoal to barbecue and bring out the smokiness in the meat. Other than Bihari Kabab (specialty of the nearby Kabab King Diner), they rule when it comes to Kababs. The food is consistently fresh, even for the curries that are on slow heat up front. Selection is limited to ensure rapid turnover. Some of these are greasy, but if you're in the mood for curry I do recommend the Chicken Achari, Karahi, Nihari, Brain Masala, and on the weekend: the Matka Gosht (slow cooked overnight for extra tenderness). Their desserts (Ras Malai and Carrot Halwa) are competent, though not the best around. But, you won't find Pakistani food in NYC as good as this. I was pleasantly surprised to see Jeff O's review as these guys don't hold back on heat. 5 stars to him for handling it, and appreciating the quality food, despite the obvious inconveniences (lack of : seating, wash room, table ware, etc. etc.). It's similar to kebab, but not quite. In that sense, it's Kabab-ish. Kabab-esque. Kabab-lite, maybe? Or pretty heavy as it turns out. For my second Queens food review, it's one of my worst food experiences in Queens. I have to say though, that I did all my least faves and mediocres in Brooklyn and Manhattan and it took ages... there were 40 or 50 in each borough. In Queens... there were *six* bad ones. That's it. And that's out of a total of more places I've tried in Queens than I've ever tried in Bklyn or Womanhattan. Wow. Queens is freaking awesome dude. And none of my Queens places get 1 star, either. So Kababish... I got the Gola Kebab that everyone recommended, and not only did it miss the gola, the ball went out of the stadium. It tasted like some sort of sludgy nastiness. I couldn't eat it. It was tied up with string, so I un-did the string and tried to eat it and wanted to puke. Maybe it's just not my thing. I'd give it a 3 because it's a family business, but it took a good 30 mins to wait for this kebab when they said 10 or 15, which meant I had to skip a bunch of other places I wanted to try. But everyone should try it and see if you hate it as much as I did. Ahh never mind. I don't have the heart to give them less than a 3. They were too nice. Be warned, though. The Gola Kabab is pure heaven. I have honestly never had any kabab (or really meat product) as insanely delicious as this. It's spicy, it's tangy, it's flavorful, it's ridiculously big (seriously, the skewer is 12" long and about 2" wide) and you will not need to eat meat for years. I tried this place in 2018-2019 couple of times and food was good but last 2-3 times in recent year 2021 this place has changed. Lack of hygiene, food can make you sick next day, improper food practices (will pack frozen biryani after microwaving) and rudeness at the billing counter. I would stay away in general. read more

Usually crowded and the wait for food is seriously annoying but well worth it. The first time I went here, my order came out after 15 minutes but waiting to place it was a pain. The guy at the front seemed to have blinders on if you don't possess a Y chromosome. Anyway, 2nd visit, I messed up and came here during peak dinner hour + fast breaking time (Ramadan) so a normally 20 minute order stretched to about 46 minutes. But... the gola kabab was sooooo good it made my eyes water. E liked his chicken kabab even though it was still spicy (after I specifically told them to make it as mild as possible). A few things I'll share: - It's just a take out counter with 2 bar stools on the side so take-out is really the only option - Be assertive when you order. They're busy and It doesn't seem like they will engage with you first. - The Biryani dishes have bones/muscles/pits in them. Not complaining, just letting everyone know, you will have to pick out bones and such from your platter as you eat it. Just so there's no surprises, figured that was something people might care about. Overall, I liked it. My expectations were very high though after seeing this place on TV so it didn't quite reach there. This review is from my visit here in 2016 summer when I lived in NY. I've moved to NYC permanently now, and will visit them soon again. If you care more about ambiance and all the superficial stuff rather than flavor in a restaurant, then this isn't your place. This hole-in-the-wall joint is a purely takeout place with curt service. You'll get friendlier faces and smiles if you speak Urdu/Hindi. Food-wise, everything is extremely flavorful. I got the following: Chicken kebab- They give an entire skewer of chicken kebab for $2, and the meat and marination are great: can't beat that price! Gola kebab- their specialty. Spicy, fragrant, yet has a chargrilled aroma. Basically the best meat pate you'll ever have. Perfect to be scooped up with the naan I got on the side. read more

Okay yeah I wanted to eat here because of the Bizarre food episode. I live not horribly far away but I wouldn't casually come here but I went to the Bronx zoo and figured I'd check this place out after. I called and ordered the Beef nihari and yeah the tawa kata kat from the show. Keep in mind this stuff is supposed to be spicy so if that's not for you stick to stuff like the kebabs. So yeah nihari was very spicy, meat was like pot roast meat; tough but I shredded it apart and it was better. The kata kat was very tasty, not too spicy BUT it's very expensive. Maybe it always was or because of the TV show but the 2 dishes and two Naan cost be $68 dollars....so I love trying new things but if I wasn't wearing a mask they'd have seen my jaw drop when I was told the total...but heck it's a specialty dish and I'm probably not going back anytime soon. If so the hot bar had some really tasty looking food. read more

The Gola Kabab has become disappointingly much less spicy and bold in the past few years, and they increased the price as well; this is true. The Bihari and chicken kababs are still amazing. A year ago (after spice downgrade but before quality downgrade) or 2-3 years ago, I may have given this place 4-5 stars. This is still a great Kababish. However, their service has gotten worse (possible?) and the food less consistent as well. Cleanliness was never a strong suit but it makes itself more apparent when you are waiting 15 before the service even acknowledges you. This has happened to me when I was the only customer in the little place. Update 7/12/18: Years later, I can't justify a poor score for a place I can't help making a trek out to at least a few times every year. The service and general operations have gotten better as well. As a real "fan" of the place, how can I give it any fewer than 4 stars? One last friendly complaint: Why haven't they purchased a location at least 3 times the size (in the same vicinity), to easily increase their revenue 3-10x, in all this time? Definitely a great place to try out kababs. My family and I always resort to this whenever we don't have something cooked at home. The only issue is that the place doesn't have space to eat inside so we always have to order takeout (fyi for anyone going there for the first time). The tikka and biryani were awesome. we were craving desi food while in town and headed straight here. However, the second time my sister got biryani from here while on her way to Laguardia and caught real bad food poisoning, which is very disheartening because the biryani was awesome the first time we tried it. I will still give this place 3 stars because the seekh kababs and chicken tikka are pretty awesome. Call ahead for the chicken tikka as they make it fresh for you and it takes about 15 minutes to make. read more

awesome hole in the wall restaurant, dirty looking as all hell, but food was great! business here is ridiculous, the workers must be stressed out / tired, cause they definitely do not stop here. there are only two seats in this establishment, which is okay since most of the people here order take out anyway. had the tawa kata kat after seeing it on bizarre foods with andrew zimmern, and I was not disappointed. they used a variety of spices and herbs, the ginger on the dish was a great compliment to the flavor, although i was slightly disappointed that there was not enough lamb brain. be warned though the dish itself is enough to feed three people, so don't try to take it on yourself in one sitting. along with this i had the garlic naan, which was baked fresh on premise, the dishes I had were done hot and fresh here, and it really showed when i bit into the dishes they prepared. that being said, this place is on the dingy side and extremely small, also they had food that they prepared and left out buffet style which I'm not really a fan of, but definitely come here if you want to eat what the locals are eating and to get an authentic experience read more
