Customer service was great and each bowl is made right in front of you so you can add or eliminate any of the ingredients you don't want. Their bowls always hit the spot and leave me full, satisfied, and feeling good. The service is always great and the staff is very welcoming. I will also note that I have never had a problem with my order here, they always get it correct. The menu allows you to order one of their bowls or curate your own. You can also add or take away certain ingredients to one of their bowls as well. Some of my favorite bowls are the Balboa, the Mayweather, and the Tamari. The bowls are super filling and packed with all the ingredients. Their chicken is also really good, not dry, and seasoned well. If you are in the area and want a healthy, filling meal, check Roots out! I am dying for them to open a location in Gainesville!!

I have lived in Blacksburg my whole life and ODB has been a go-to bakery for most locals for a while. Serving a variety of pastries, cakes, breads, and offering lunch, brunch, and dinners. They have a lovely variety of options for customers to enjoy. The bakery primarily serves French pastries and caters to French cuisine at their meals. Although they offer more than just French inspired food. In the past, my family and I have enjoyed grabbing their cakes for celebrations and individual pastries from their pastries case. But recently, they have not been up to par and have left us very unsatisfied. The cakes have been dry and do not taste fresh at all. On my latest visit I tried a couple of things, all of which were cold, with dry, crumbly textures. It was evident to me that these pastries were not made day-of and had clearly sat in a fridge for at least one night (if not more). I found this to be extremely disappointing as ODB used to have a reputation of serving FRESH baked goods and pastries. I cannot attest for the hot food they serve during meal times, but the pastries and cakes have gone down hill. Over the winter break, I had their NY cheesecake bar (which I've gotten in the past and it was phenomenal) and it fell so short of what I remembered. It was lacking flavor and the crust at the bottom was dry. This past visit, I tried a Napoleon (also have had this before and really enjoyed it), a specialty cake, a scone, and a couple macarons and macaroons. The Napoleon was so cold and the puff pastry was super stale, it practically fell apart the second I tried to eat it. The specialty individual cake slice was also very cold and the cake wasn't moist at all. Again, indicating it was not fresh or made day-of. The scone was also a disappointment as it was dry and lacked any moisture. I thought the macrons and macaroons were fine though. While most of this was disappointing, the price didn't help either. Nothing was inexpensive and the quality was completely missing. So disappointing to leave this review as I used to enjoy coming here for sweet treats. It's sad to see that ODB is unfortunately not what it used to be. I will note that the service is very friendly and they do their best dealing with customers. Could have been more efficient, but I did go during a busier time. I hope they can turn things around, but until then I do not think I will be retuning soon.

The Cellar Restaurant - Greek Gyro

The Cellar is one of those restaurants where you might wonder, "Do they have ...?" And the answer…read morewill probably be, "Yes, they do have that on the menu." They have gyros, meatball subs, pizza, burgers, crab cakes, kabobs, chicken parmesan and lots more. I get a little squinky when I see a multiple-page menu with lots of random foods on it. But I visited with a group, and so I was locked into this place, whether I liked it or not. A quick internet and Yelp search told me that the things to get at The Cellar are the Greek gyro and the pizzas. I didn't want a whole pie just for myself, so I ordered the gyro. The Greek gyro was really good! It is lamb and beef in a pita, topped with tzatziki, lettuce, onion and tomato. All of the veggies were super fresh, and the pita was warm and pillowy. It's served with chips and a pickle. They actually have quite a few Greek or Mediterranean-adjacent items on the menu. One of the people in my group ordered the Black & Blue Salad, which is basically a salad with steak and bleu cheese on it, plus lots of vegetables. It was huge! She ate a lot of it, and it looked like she barely made a dent. When she put the leftovers in the to-go container, she almost needed two containers! It became a running joke that day and for a couple of days afterward about whether or not she actually finished that salad. This is also the location for the 6Pak Bottle Shop, which is basically a liquor store but intensely curated. They have a nice selection of craft beers and wine. There is also a bar downstairs, which I didn't have the pleasure of visiting. Another great thing about The Cellar is that they are open late! Sometimes until midnight, and sometimes until 2 a.m. I guess that makes sense, as they are located basically right across the street from Virginia Tech.

The Cellar has a basement bar. We snagged a few bar seats. The bar server was great. He provided us waters. He quickly took our cocktail orders and made some very delicious cocktails. My sour apple martini was so good that that a second one was in front of me quickly. One of us ordered a full sandwich meal and that sandwich looked humongous and full of meat. We also ordered sides of curly fries. These were fried fresh. It's somewhat of a dark speakeasy vibe. The crowd was tame compared to some of the other bars down the street. We hope to try the full restaurant in our next visit.

We were seated immediately and helped to some menus (love the menu sooooo much)! The TV was playing White Chicks and later played Madea's Big Happy Family. Very nice selection. We got our orders taken quickly and it didn't take long for the food to come out! I got the Fish and Chips with Garlic Parmesan Fries! Both items were so nice and crispy! But be aware that the garlic Parmesan is actually a sauce and not like Garlic powder and Parmesan cheese- so it's more of a wet (but still crispy) fry. The Ginger & Mint Tea was also very yummy and refreshing- barely tasted the tea and almost tasted fizzy but nevertheless very refreshing to wash everything down. Just overall such good food and good vibes! Will be coming again and again!

***3 1/2 stars***…read more This was kind of all over the place, and a prescient reminder that sometimes you get what you pay for. My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality (down the street!) and I stopped here for a much-needed recharge after she led a comprehensive campus tour in 90-degree heat. There weren't a ton of eating options - graduation was apparently last week, and the offseason for the campus town has officially commenced - but this one looked fairly decent for what it was. The menu was also intriguing, with both sushi and Mediterranean-style cuisine. In my experience, jamming a bunch of random types of food onto a menu can be very hit or miss, but I wouldn't say that was really an issue here. We both had sticker shock or lack thereof when we looked at the cocktail menu. Margaritas are about $6, and "top shelf" ones are $8? Incredible stuff. I went with the top shelf frozen berries margaritas, and specifically requested Don Julio. That said - and maybe this is a reflection of my having a more adult palate than the college student target demo, or maybe I'm just officially a degenerate at this point - it wasn't a strong marg at all, and both of us ended up getting extra shots of Don Julio to make it taste better. So the additional tequila brought the total marg prices to $10, which is still incredible in my opinion, given what we're dealing with in the NYC metro area. Since we were on a pretty naughty vacation, I tried to tread water a bit and went with the salmon teriyaki bowl (about $20 I think). Honestly really hit the spot. The salmon was fresh/flavorful, and as you can see from the attached, a ridiculously generous portion. I wasn't in the mood for the accompanying side salad (again, I was on vacation), but the rice and salmon were a distant memory quickly enough. I was also kind of obsessed with the plate that it came on - I'm not really sure how to describe it other than that it looked like dishware you'd find in the Flintstones' house. It sort of looked like a sculpture of a piece of bent tree bark? I know, I'm not giving this justice. We also split the bang bang shrimp app, which was very good as well - maybe a TOUCH over-fried, but I think that's part of the package with the naughty appetizer section of a menu. Would get both of those items again in a heartbeat. The service was honestly pretty mediocre, and a big reason this ultimately was just an okay experience. A shame, given that we both legitimately liked the food. Our waiter was definitely confused by my chum's drink order (which, to be fair, WAS a little off the beaten path - she requested one of their non-alcoholic mango lychee lemonade, plus a separate shot of Don Julio), and our drinks ultimately showed up at the same time as our food. He also came back to our table after about 15 minutes to reconfirm her drink order. Not great, and a reminder that there's no harm in bringing a pen and a pad with you to the table. This wasn't terrible by any means, but was an uneven experience. Frankly, I think expectations should be a little tempered in a college town, where the average diner is probably in their early 20s and pretty low maintenance when it comes to their food and drink preferences. But if they figured out the service here, they'd really have something.
