I have been looking for a replacement middle eastern style kabob place for a while since Wahib's Middle Eastern in Alhambra closed their doors. Due to the yelp reviews I decided to give this place a shot, and I was not disappointed. Food The food at this location is an A-, just not quite at the 5 level, but close. Hummus Tasty, but on a 15 dollar plate I expect a larger quantity of the tasty side. The traditional pita bread was good, but I only received one slice of bread with the meal, just not enough to go with the complete meal. Improvements would be 2 slices on pita and more hummus. Salad The low point of the meal, fresh, but the salad dressing was unusual to be kind. I will be skipping the salad next time, and paying for a double side of hummus over the salad. Rice Traditional rice, a little bland, needing a bit more flavor, but perfectly eatable with the meat in the dish. Kabobs I ordered 3 kabobs with this plate, two lamb, and one kafta (ground beef). The kabobs overall were excellent, tasty, and had very good flavor. Missing was the vegetables common in lamb kabobs and that was a bit of a disappointment overall. The finish was medium well, not burned (well done), but a little over done. Environment Crummy would be a word that was a little good for the tables and layout of the location. The tables were dirty, and I felt a little scummy in the location. I nearly took the food to go, but I decided to stay in the end. For future visits I will be taking my food to go. Overall the food was an A-, but the other factors lowered the review score down a notch. This place was recommended to me by my insurance guy in the same shopping center and just like he said it was amazing. It was my first time having Mediterranean food and it was not a let down. The chicken is so flavor full tasty and the sides are nothing short of great. The rice is so delicious I could eat a whole bowl on its own. I ordered the shawarma plate and it came with chicken shawarma rice hummus a small salad with a dressing and a pita bread. Was definitely a lot a food enough for two meals for me. Each combo came with rice, salad, and hummus in addition to the meat. Typical Mediterranean place, nothing crazy fancy but the food was good. So yummy! One of my favorite Mediterranean spots. I am Vegan so I always feel limited when going out to eat. They have a Veggie kabob plate and a Falafel plate that is not only filling but so so so good. The Baklava is out of this world delicious and its family recipe. I tried to get the recipe from the owner but no luck there. haha The Falafel sandwich is the perfect small meal! I don't leave feeling bloated or uncomfortable after eating. I love the environment and the family is so sweet. For people who are not accustomed to ordering or eating Mediterranean food the menu is easy to understand. I recommend this place for family events or parties. They have large platter options. I crave this place quite a lot so even if your just eating lunch there is a nice area outside to eat or sit inside and watch some Tv while enjoying your meal or even taking it to go for dinner its great and they have grubhub to order and pickup. Quality seems to have gone downhill since my last review. I've been here a couple more times since then and I feel like each time it's gotten progressively worse. Salad. I asked for dressing on the side for my salad. Salad came drenched in dressing. A lot of brown lettuce pieces too. Baklava. I usually love the baklava here. The last batch I got, they probably should've thrown out. The oil was getting white, it smelled and tasted stale. Threw it out. Chicken kabob, it was OK. I've had better. I wanted to try something new. Got the grape leaves. What? Do you enjoy cold mushy rice soaked in vinegar wrapped in a bitter leaf? This is the dish for you. Threw it out. Ordered lamb kabob plate and the mixed shawarma plate. Chef was very polite and had no problem swapping out the rice for extra salad for me. Both plates were excellent and very satisfying. The flavors here are on the bolder side, which I'm a huge fan of. I particularly enjoyed the hummus, which had some red chili and other mixins that kicked up the flavors a notch, and the juicy lamb kabobs with their delectable gaminess. The shawarma has a strong herbal backnote that's almost over the top but nevertheless delicous. I was craving some decent Mediterranean food and I was not disappointed. I left feeling very satisfied. I am Middle Eastern, and this is by far the best Middle Eastern food I've ever had. The skewers combo plate was the best kabob we've had in this area. The portion size was generous and everything was fresh and hot. My main compliments are for the seasoning - the humus, salad everything tasted yummy - I was literally saying "mmm" for the first 10 minutes. I was starving but even so, I had to remind myself to stop eating when I was getting full. My main peeve when eating out is food that is overly salty or sugary. That was not the case with Kabob House. The lamb and beef were tenderized and cooked to perfection, not burnt like in other kabob restaurants I've tried in the area. I can't remember a better meal out for such an affordable price. We needed a good meal after a long day visiting with family at the hospital right across the street and it is unbelievable that they weren't busier! It's an easy walk or short drive.
