We went for a recent iftar buffet and was shocked how unorganized this place is. We called before and they told us they will have chicken karahi, different kabobs, rice, spinach and chickpeas. When we went there it was only chicken Tikka, very oily chicken karahi/curry and other items as mentioned. Even though advertised as buffet but it was more like served on the plate by request, the problem is there is one person serving, more than 20 people needed to be served and barely enough food and chicken Tikka to serve few people. We had to wait a long time to get our food and even that was just little bit of everything on a flimsy foam plate with 1 chicken Tikka. No date or anything available to break fast. There was no fork. No plastic or silverware fork at all in a restaurant which is unbelievable. Had to wait long for water and a long time for tea. They should have list it as a served by plate instead of a buffet. Asked for a ln extra Naan ( after getting 2 Naan for 6 people) but that never came. We just lost our appetite later blamed ourselves for going there. I feel bad for them as the person working in kitchen seems to be hard working folks but the people in front just don't have any clue or management skill on how to serve or how to deal with rush of customers. No anticipation at all. If you want to eat there, plan to go at an odd time and make sure not you are no more than 2 people and may be bring your own plasticwares and water. My dad went to pick up naan that he ordered and we chose not to tip because no one served us, we just picked up the order so didn't feel the need to tip but the woman who brought out the naan got mad that we didn't tip her. Like we didn't sit there and eat, no one waited on us or served us. We just went to pick up an order. We tip generously when we dine out but didn't see a reason to give a tip. Richmond needs more places like this. Really good authentic ethnic food. The lamb, beef sheekh, and chicken tikka are full of flavor. The meat is also juicy and tender. The side of chickpeas was slightly spicy but delicious. The combos are very filling and could feed two people. They give you naan bread with your order which is humongous. It's about 12in in diameter. You get good value for your money. I looked at their website and saw they had online ordering available so I decided to give it a try. The online ordering option allows you to enter a pick up time. I had a dental appointment at 12pm so decided to set the pick up time at 1:15. When I got to the restaurant they were just putting together my order. More restaurants should have this online ordering option as it is very convenient. Great, authentic food! I highly recommend boneless chicken karahi (serves 2 people) and haleem (usually available on weekends). Kabob place makes great food and has good intentions, but definitely needs someone more experienced in US customer service to greet the customers and take the orders. The guy that usually takes the orders speaks English poorly. Please invest in someone that is young, US educated, and comfortable with customers from all backgrounds to take care of the front desk! Just to prevent any misunderstanding, I'm Middle Eastern and speak English as second language myself. This is a well-meaning suggestion that others might be too hesitant to voice. Looks can and are definitely deceiving. The interior to be honest insists the prettiest & the dinning area is just long tables placed at random. Usually busy with pick up orders and large dine in groups so expect to take a seat . All kabobs are made to order so expect your food hot ( usually takes 10-15 min. They do offer other things like curry but I stick to the chicken boneless kabobs. The lamb is ok but it's not my go to order. I prefer the boneless chicken just because it's soooo juicy and flavorful with seasoning that ignited the senses. I personally am not familiar with the spices they use but something about the spices got me hooked.They have all the meat places in the cooler to view with the days options . You can order 1 skewer or 2 skewers but even just the 1 is a lot of food . It honestly just depend on how much meat you want. When you get a meal it comes with one side, salad, rice, and fresh bread. The bread is The size of two to go boxes put together. It's best to eat it fresh and does not keep well the next day . The yogurt sauce that comes with the kabobs are a hit or miss for me . Sometimes too watery but when it's done right it's good ! If you've never had kabobs before this is the place to pop that cherry . Solid Afghan/Paki restaurant with dine-in and takeout features. I had the boneless chicken platter which came with rice, chickpeas, and large roti/pita. My partner had a similar platter but with minced chicken meat. As others have stated, the roti/pita is massive, very filling, and has a nice fluffy texture. My chicken had a nice grilled almost barbecue flavor but the meat itself was cooked a bit long and dry inside. The minced meat on the other hand was stellar and had a sultry mix of spice and zest. If you get a chance to dine in, you can enjoy Native Afghani artwork painted on the walls and meet some locals. Yes the service can be a bit slow but I think it's worth it. read more

On January 16th, I ordered 6 pieces chicken shish kabob over the phone for pick up. The owner wasn't there when I came to pick up the food, the employee (a guy) gave me the food. When I arrived to the restaurant, the employee was still cooking my order in front of me and I waited a few mins for him to finish. When I got home I opened the container & realized that 3 of the kabobs were fine but the other 3 were expired meat and had an awful smell to it (you could tell the meat was not fresh and old) Later, I called the owner and addressed the problem to her in details, she told me to go to the restaurant and that they will take care of it. When I asked the owner why this happened in the first place she said it's because I ordered the food on the phone and picked up the food LATE (although I didn't, the employee told her that and lied to her) but in reality he actually COOKED the food in front of me and I was waiting for him to finish cooking in person. After I told this to her, she did not apologize or tell me that she would address the problem with him, it seemed like she didn't really care. I have been giving this restaurant a lot of business ever since they opened but recently their food quality and customer service has gone downhill. read more

I was skeptical at first regarding this place, but it exceeded all my expectations. As a Pakistani, it's very hard to find food that tastes genuinely fresh and spicy at the same time - I've asked them to put more spices. Most Pakistani restaurants around Richmond have lost the "genuine" touch and moved more Eurocentric in regards to taste; this meaning, less spice, authenticity etc. for the general population. Family ordered the Seekh Kebab and Chapli Kebab - all beef - and were very satisfied with the portions and the extremely rare (big) Naan that tastes just like what you would get from a South Asian country. The only con. may be service in regards to not being checked on, but you can grab complementary tea, or water yourself. Think of the service more like a fast food restaurant, in a sense that you will have to get the napkins, forks, drink etc. I would without a doubt recommend this place to anyone - 5 Stars, easy. read more

We really like this place. It is obviously owned by a couple and still somewhat new. The wife seems to do all of the front of the house stuff: take orders, run the register, get orders together. I believe the husband does the cooking. All the meat is freshly prepared so you may have to be patient depending on what your order (ie: lamb will take longer than chicken). The food is excellent but there is a bit of a learning curve with the menu if you aren't familiar with Afghan/ Pakistani food. The menu on the website explains things better than the one in the rerestaurant. We usually go for one of the combos. The combo includes a skewer of meat, rice, salad and a choice of spinach or chickpeas. read more

The boneless chicken meal is enough to feed two! Ask for an extra side of chick peas, they are spicy and delicious! The meal also comes with bread...light, fluffy and warm. Great comfort food.
