The food was really good. We've been to this restaurant several times over the years. The service was so bad it was laughable. Not rude. Just lack of. We had to find napkins and chopsticks, we had to ask for drinks, when we ordered she just nodded. Dropped off the food at the table and never came back. No how is it? Do you want more? My family is always down to have Japanese food for dinner and that's exactly what we did after one hot Friday afternoon. The place is pretty dead around 5:30pm and we were seated right away. Aside from a couple of tables, there were the sushi chef's already looking busy. The take out counter is happening! Our party of 3 ordered a variety of dishes from rolls, udon, sashimi and hamachi Kama. The sashimi were fresh and came with miso and salad if you get the combo. My friend and I stopped in this afternoon for lunch and were not super hungry. We spotted some great sounding appetizers on the menu and ordered from it. My friend loved her Tempura- I tried it and liked the light crisp batter very much. I had the Miso Fried Tofu and really enjoyed it. I was pleasantly surprised the appetizer portions were quite adequate in size and prices were reasonable. The service was decent- not outstanding but not poor. As someone who is a foodie and has had sushi everywhere in the world, including Japan several times and other great places, this place had to be the worst sushi I've ever had. so much so that I felt sick once I came home. they were rude. They couldn't care less. I went in between lunch and dinner time on a Sunday. Empty restaurant -- I was seated right away and my sushi came out quickly enough. Idk why everyone's so bent out of shape about the service. My waiters were efficient and polite, not overly friendly but honestly...who cares? I got my food? I got to hang out and work on my phone and eat sushi undisturbed? I don't mind if my waiter isn't chatty. I actually prefer it as a solo diner. Anyway, I just want to combat some of these complaints because I had zero problems with this place and my food was pretty good. My only gripe is that it was kind of expensive but no more so than the rest of Petaluma. Also, very good iced tea. read more

There are 10 generously filled pieces to a roll, & each order comes with its own ginger, wasabi, soy sauce & chopsticks. The ingredients looked & tasted fresh. Came here for an early dinner and immediately felt like the staff was irritated that they had to seat us or serve us. The food used to be pretty decent but it was too covered in too much sauce on the rolls and it seemed like smaller portions. Happy hour: I dined at 4pm Sunday. This is during Happy Hour which involves a 15% discount on everything. Very clean, professional staff, efficient, real sushi chefs, nice tables. I ordered a combo. I ordered Crab Rolls and Spicy Tuna Sushi. The combo came with soup (Miso) and salad. All very good and enjoyable. There were two available parking spots very near to pick from and no meters and two hour free parking. Since this is a fine Japanese restaurant it was nice to get a discount on nicer dining! Chicken overcooked and dry, and the curry sauce was in a little bowl and nearly as thin as soy sauce and hardly any flavor. Was it a mistake? No pickles as is customary with chicken curry, but they mysteriously added an orange slice. Awful meal - it looks this this restaurant is phoning it in at this point. Felt like the staff hated their jobs when I walked in. They were speaking Mandarin. In my experience, that's generally not a good sign for a Japanese restaurant. I should have just left, but was hankering for nigiri. I ordered maguro, hamachi, ikura and toro. The fish was warm and mushy. The sushi rice was also too soft. I ordered via Door Dash and had the Golden California Roll, side salad, miso soup, edamame, and the gyoza. The Golden California Roll was beyond fantastic!! The side salad and miso soup were on the small side but they were delicious! Gyoza was a little burnt on the bottom, and the edamame was good but nothing special. I will definitely be back for the Golden Cal Roll. Overall really good food. I also ordered on 7/4, so I'm sure they were busy. Overall I was happy and satisfied! read more

Service was okay, food was good, but I am concerned. When I went to the women's restroom I checked the mirror to make sure it is not double sided because my paranoia always gets the best of me. My fingers touching the mirror and the reflection did not have a gap, meaning that it is double sided. As I was anxious about this, I figured the next best idea would be to turn off the lights and take a flash photo. What ended up showing was a greenish/blueish light appearing to come from behind the mirror. I will attach the picture below but I'm incredibly concerned. Takeout here makes me want to go back on most of my sushi reviews and lower their ratings. The fish is nice, fresh and cut perfectly. The chefs choice nigiri is actually diverse. Apart from cozy atmosphere and relatively good looking menu. The staff are where OK, but the,"server" not so much . The same server who decided to blow his nose into a napkin and placed it on the counter sushi bar counter and decided that hand sanitizing was good enough and left the soiled napkin on the sushi bar counter. Once confronted about it in a very polite manner, I felt, He told me to leave obviously. OSHA obviously needs to revisit this establishment to reinforce handwashing hygiene and personal hygiene. Such a shame since they were really slow and the server decided to make a scene out of the whole situation. I regret to say that I do hope that you as the manager and owner of said, establishment, revisit and reestablish boundaries within your employees structure or else how else are you supposed to survive with dwindling clientele? On the other note, I never mentioned nor confronted this to said "server" but he also sneezed into another customers credit card sleeve and handed it to him. Not sure if that's a courtesy, from where ever he's hails... But again, who am I just a Yelp reviewer? Side note; this is a younger male with medium length dyed blonde hair, who obviously doesn't like to be confronted about his downfalls. I should've had a clue about the mediocrity of this restaurant because it's open all day without a break between lunch and dinner. Quality Japanese restaurants always close around 2:00 or 2:30 until dinner but it was 3 o'clock and I gave it a try. I was struck by the two Sushi chefs who did not even acknowledge my presence, even though I sat at the sushi bar in front of them and was the only customer in the entire restaurant. Supporting local restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic has become a mission. Today's choice was sushi from Kabuki in Petaluma. Reading the reviews indicate bad service, however, this isn't a problem when takeout is the only option. The size of the rolls were manageable and didn't require unhinging the jaw to eat. The fish was fresh and the presentation was great considering it was in plastic containers. I will definitely give this restaurant another go and update my review to include the service. Honestly this is my fav sushi spot in petaluma. They are not fancy at all but the food is high quality and consistent everytime. I love the staff also, they know my order bc I always get the same thing lmao! My order is a kabuki handroll add sprouts, spicy tuna roll add tobiko and negihama add jalepeno. So yummy, I eat here like once a week I havent had anything I didnt like, the pricing is also just right compared to the other sushi places here in town. We have been loyal to this restaurant for almost a year, until my partner and I got violently ill, and three days later have yet to be healthy again. We had 101-102 fevers after eating this sushi. Our neighbor had breakfast, lunch and dinner with us, but she opted out of eating sushi. She was the only one not violently ill. I even had to cancel a business trip because I was too faint and feverish to fly. Please contact the Sonoma County Environmental Health board or your district manager or supervisor if you become ill after eating here. We will never go back. The Environmental Health Specialist let us know that there are not appropriate cleaning stations at this restaurant. I now have to make assumptions as to how we have gotten so ill, since the county cannot make that conclusion. The two hand-washing stations for sushi preparers were clogged and had no soap or cleaning supplies. Meaning that the only area for the people working here to clean their hands after handling raw meat and serving ppl was in a back station. This is most likely how we got to be so violently ill. The idea of this makes me want to throw up all over again, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to eat solid food since Saturday and it is now Tuesday as I am writing this review. I'm sure they will try to clean up their act since they were visited by the health board, and i drove by today and saw that they are hiring a new sushi chef, but this is so unacceptable to run a business in this way. We are both young and healthy, but if we weren't, this could have hospitalized both of us. Please choose another restaurant, one that never cuts corners on sanitation when delivering raw fish to people. The first time, my daughter was sick and I stopped by to get her favorite meal here....the young woman working was extremely rude and unprofessional. She snapped that they are closing and abruptly walked off. Second time, we ordered for take out. I went to pick it up the young female working was again rude. Her behavior is as though you are interrupting her and she has no time for you. (There was only two customers) No smile, no thank you, no nothing. She set the food down, then went to process my credit card, set it down and walked off. Absolutely ZERO personality and has a bad attitude. I was a waitress many years ago and respect the hard work. This girl needs to work on her social skills. In the meantime, until you can treat customers with respect, i'll be taking my business elsewhere. I gave 2 stars because the food is good. Randomly stumbled in here on an early evening Sunday, not much of a crowd. We sat down after we saw some vegan options on the menu. They have a veggie roll, veggie tempura and some fried tofu, which we ordered. Nothing was crazy good, really, just good. The fried tofu was pretty sad. Stopped by this restaurant for lunch because I wanted to visit a boutique down the street. We were the first customers and the lady told us to sit anywhere we like. We chose to sit at the end of a booth and began reviewing the menu. The lady came back and apologized to us profusely but let us know she had a regular coming in that preferred to sit in the spot we were in and told us we could sit anywhere else we wanted besides that spot. My boyfriend and I didn't mind this, because I have worked customer service before and definitely have had my share of regulars, so we picked another spot and sat there. The workers kept apologizing to us and even offered us free edamame as a "We apologize but thank you for understanding" gesture which was so kind and thoughtful of them because we were not at all bothered by their ask! I ordered the Sake roll and it was SO GOOD! I wish the rolls were thicker so it could be a little more filling but nonetheless it was really good. read more

I really wanted to like this restaurant, but there were some major communication breakdowns happening between staff. We ordered a LOT of food to split, and instead of putting a roll out one at a time, they overloaded us with about seven plates at once. My boyfriend can't have cucumber, and expressly told this to the waitress who confirmed it, but there was still cucumber on every roll that had cucumber as an ingredient. I also asked for the sauce on the side, and that didn't happen either (less of a big deal). We had to wait while they remade those rolls without cucumber, and it tasted like they reused some of the ingredients from the original roll (because the salmon skin was totally burnt). The final straw was the piece of hair in my wasabi. It put a bad taste in my mouth and had me concerned about their food handling practices. The waitress gave us 10% off the bill because of the hair when she finally showed up again. I hate to be such a whiner but this is not how restaurants should be managed.
