    Uni Nigiri

The staff is the best part about this place. The chefs were pleasant and helpful. This place is not connected to that Bluefin place on Broadway. I sat at the bar and they had a TV above it, which was nice to watch the Blazers game. There was as a strange smell that I couldn't identify, but I got over it. I ordered some edamame, miso soup, some nigiri, and a roll. The edamame were not great. The miso was just okay. I was most disappointed in the nigiri. The fish seemed cut a little sloppy and not very well put together. They were just okay. The roll was nothing to rave about either. I was offered some sea urchin/uni nigiri being told it was very fresh. It was still not that great. Overall, it could be better. The prices were not bad. It is more affordable than other spots in the city.

Consistent, delicious, and right next to Hollywood MAX. Wonderful. Also, who doesn't love a loyalty card!?

Amazing sushi restaurant and hidden gem in Portland. While the restaurant is small, the quality of the food is one of the highest I've seen in any restaurant. The quality of the fish was amazing, the presentation of the food was artistic, and the food was prepared to perfection. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend when visiting Portland and I was not disappointed at all. The entire staff is very professional and makes customer satisfaction a priority. The owners of the restaurant are a very kind family who maintain high standards for their food as well as prioritize great customer experiences. Don't let this small and low-key restaurant fool you as they serve some of the best sushi in the city and will be one of your favorite restaurants to keep coming back to.

Wanting to try a new sushi spot and was in the area and found this spot. There's actually another bluefin that I originally wanted to try, and it's on Broadway as well, but Google Maps took us to the closest one. So if you are looking, make sure you are going to the right one. Anyways even though it wasn't the one I wanted to try out it actually ended up being really good. They had a lot of items that other sushi bars don't really offer. It's a quiet and small spot. Server was really nice. They do have a special baord so check it out. We got a variety of things and we got a couple of the tuna specials. My husband really like the monkfish liver, he says not a lot of sushi places offer that. We really enjoyed everything we ordered.

I came here last week with my 2 girls and thought we would grab some quick lunch before heading over to Trader Joe's. It's cute and the service was attentive. They have an upstairs room for groups but the prices seemed a lil too high. We had 2 spicy scallop hand rolls that were about $8.95 each and 2 rolls for $16.95a piece! So the food in my photos cost us about $65 with tip. I'm not opposed to expensive sushi...I get this isn't a conveyor belt place but my other Sushi place is less expensive, high quality and the presentation is gorgeous. So it's hard to live to their standards. To be fair...it tasted ok. But way overpriced. In comparison, I spend about $45 at my other spot on SE Clinton and they blow this place out of the water. (I have left them a review with numerous photos on my Yelp).

Better than what we've experienced with the conveyor belt sushi craze here in Portland, however Not a go-to sushi spot either. Adamantly resent mayo anywhere near fish.

I ordered food to go and sat in the lobby to drink a "large" $11 nigori sake while I waited during lunch time! The place was empty except for one guy at the bar at about 1:30 PM on a Wednesday. The lady working was really nice and polite. I got a nigiri lunch box and the food was excellent, though the portions were smaller than typical bentos; the fish was fresh and firm, the salad had thin carrot strings, cucumbers (with the rind cut off) and romaine. The dressing was delicious. The rice was perfect. The agedashi tofu was pretty basic and nothing special, but the ponzu was tasty. I'm looking forward to going back again! It's nice and close.

I have not been here in a bit and wow - they completely remodeled. It looks so much better than it did. They even have new rolls on their menu which look amazing. My husband and I were blown away even more but their new presentation and such. Their quality is still impeccable. This really continues to be one of my favorite places to eat in Portland. **WC** I actually was afraid to come here because I had not been back and did not know they remodeled. The restaurant was much less open and it would have been a challenge to get in with my chair but WOW...I was delighted to wheel in so easily in such an open floor plan on their new carpet. What a great experience!

Had a bento box and rounded it out with a salmon skin hand roll and 2 pieces of tuna toro. The bento included 4 pieces of saba sashimi. They were all sliced different thicknesses and one piece was mostly skin. Still, it was reasonably fresh. The negi hamachi was solid. The toto was some of the toughest I ever had. If one is going for a fatty piece of sushi rather than the clean miners flavor of pure muscle, it ought to do that. So I felt the toro, at $10 was very poor quality and value. For excellent quality I wouldn't have minded the price. The salmon skin in the handroll was deep fried. That made it crispy, but changed the texture and flavor of what traditionally is broiled. This was a 3.25 star place and I feel bad rounding it down because I've given some conveyor belt places 3 stars and this was certainly better. But there you have it. If you live in the neighborhood it would be worth frequenting on occasion. Certainly not a destination place.

Mediocre, acceptable, you will live, not terrible and unfortunately overpriced are all acceptable comments from other reviewers. When we arrived there were no people sitting in the restaurant. The chef and waitress both know English and were overly attentive. Hii, welcome, you could sit anywhere, Ooooo thats a good place, yes you could put your gym bags in the corner. Let me tell you about the menu; This is veeerrrry good and.... Geez, Mary, mother of .... allow me to read the menu! Ivan and I ordered edamame to start while still reviewing the menu. It was salted well and warm. I ordered one of the specials - Monk fish liver - it was delicious. Ivan ordered a roll and I ordered the Tuna Festival roll. I took photos. It was average at best. The tuna festival comes with a cut tuna roll which is mostly rice and with four average size nigiri pieces; one of the three was very good, the rest were thawed out and placed over glutinous rice. The sliced ginger is not dyed pink so I'm grateful. if you are just hungry, not very discriminating and would still like to eat here, then I recommend ordering the daily specials only. Also, the chef at the bar was talking with us in English and the waitress was adding to his opinions. Ivan and I were hoping they would just give us time to read the menu and relax. I think they got the idea when they started speaking Chinese with each other in front of us. Very comical . Do not have the hot tea! this is just a teabag with water. Normally, good sushi restaurants serve whole leaf or some sort of delicious aromatic hot tea. Not here ! I explained I did not like it and the waitress said " sorry" twice and charged me for it. Hahahaha The Pearl area on 10th has magnificent sushi restaurants that are pricy because the quality of the fish deserves it. Not this place.

It would be easily missed if you were just walking by. Inside there were a couple of small tables adjacent to the kitchen. The ceiling was adorned with tons of cherry tree blossoms. For just a little over $100 per person, the chef's initial courses followed by unlimited omakase, were an absolute delight. Our server verbalized in great detail, what regions of Japan all the different selections of fish came from. Even with the 2 hour limit, pacing felt very even and not rushed. Every single roll and dish was so fresh, delicate, and unique. Some of the fish items just melted in your mouth. At the end of the meal, the owner was so down to earth, took the time to talk to us, and offered to take a group photo. Overall it was a very beautiful experience. Quality was top notch and the pricing for what we got was very reasonable. Would definitely come again and recommend the restaurant to others.

We were able to make a reservation last minute so a colleague and I decided to check it out. She was warm, answered all of our questions and we ended up ordering all of her recommendations. In short, we are happy we did. For appetizers, we got the miso black cod and the oysters which were dressed with a tasty Yuzu sauce. For the entree, we shared three rolls: Pacific NW, Salmon Aburi and Old Town. My order was placed thru GrubHub and arrived on time in a secure stapled paper bag. I ordered miso soup, sunomono, avocado roll, natto roll, ume shiso roll and garden roll. The ume shiso roll was not in my bag. Since the bag was stapled shut, one can only assume that the restaurant did not put it inside. The rolls I did receive were very tiny rolls. Even the garden roll, which is $17 looked like a miniature version. The sunomono was ok but did not seem fresh. Perhaps the itamae called out this day or maybe it was just a one off. Unfortunately you get one chance to make a good first impression. So I probably would not order from Kaizen again.

We sat at the bar so we could interact with the sushi chefs. We did talk with a chef, but his advice wasn't very specific. So...despite plenty of suggestions from the server, and some advice from the chef, and a long time perusing and discussing the extensive menu, we still weren't sure what to order. We finally went with a combo and were disappointed to see it served in a boat! That just seemed like a gimmicky, touristy thing, we would have preferred a plate. The fish actually was very good, and so were the salads. A shrimp nigiri was the only misstep, as the shrimp was overcooked.
