Came in right before the first night of Chanukah for some sufganiyot. I've had better, I've had worse. It was 3pm so I bet they were fresher earlier in the day. I tried a traditional one, a cream filled one, and a caramel one. Liked the cream one the most. The caramel one was rather tasteless. Presentation is great and they have lots of different flavors. You can mix and match your own box, or purchase prepackaged ones. Coffee tastes like salt. Skip it. read more

Whenever I'm in the neighborhood I always stop in this bakery. As a Baker myself I love fresh baked goods. This place is very nice and clean, but I was very upset with how 1 of the counter servers treated me. I went in for a Lox sandwich. I showed him the picture on their new menus and asked him how much would it be since they charge by item. He said $6.10. He said pick out your bread. I picked a fresh sesame roll. He toasted it and preceded to smear salmon cream cheese and topped it with tomatoes and onions. I said, hold on that's not what I ordered. I showed him the picture again, he acted as if he couldn't see or understand what I'm saying. He said for the salmon pieces it would be more. I said, how much would it be? He said $7.30. So for $1.20 you changed my order. Do you think I can't afford it because I asked how much it would be? This really pisses me off. I like coming here but for that nonsense I will not spend my $ there again. As a Black woman I didn't want to make a scene in this Jewish bakery, so I took it and paid for it. But that's horrible that someone would judge me and change my order after I specifically showed you what I wanted. Kaff, your workers need to do better. That's unacceptable behavior. Would you want to be treated that way? Never again. I will go somewhere else where they will make what I ask for and pay for. read more

This is a kosher Bake shop... I love their salads... Fresh, crunchy, savory... And good pricing... I had a tuna broccoli salad... With savory dressing... Cut red peppers, cucumbers, squash and green leaf lettuce... It was beyond delicious... You can find the salads in the "dairy kitchen" section of the shop. There is a wide variety of other bake goods... Clearly fresh and boxed and wrapped... Again the prices are very competitive given the fresh ingredients... This is a place I will always return to either after a long bike ride... Or a walk in the neighborhood... I live in south slope... But this place is worth the walk... Past by this bakery on a number of occasions, finally decided to try it last week. The place is pretty clean, and well lit. There were racks of donuts on the side and the main staple are their loaf breads. I decided to taste their caramel filled donut, and a chocolate Bavarian cream. Got to the register, and was about to pay when I noticed more desserts on the display. So, I got the mocha cream chocolate sponge cake. The cake tasted good, with a hint of lemon in the inner layers. $10 minimum for credit card! Didn't get to eat breakfast before lecture and then lecture was cancelled, so stopped by here before going to clinic. There are so many goodies I want to try, but need to keep my weight in check. Haha! ORDER Apple cinnamon danish: BIGGER than the size of my palm. Flaky pastry with gooey apply filling. Cinnamon rolled into pastry dough. If I had time, I would have microwaved it a bit, but I was in a rush. They have blueberry, strawberry, and cream cheese danishes as well. Many other pastries as well like cookies, rugelach, cakes, cupcakes, bread rolls, and coffee. They sell egg sandwhiches as well, but the cook doesn't come until 10am as I was told. Lintzer tarts are my favourite, so I tried their apricot and raspberry one - they were fine, very low on the jam, and the cookie was good, but very little powder. I wasn't impressed, but am glad I tried it out. I also had the chocolate dipped almond horn which was tasty and reminded me of Germany, but it was too almondy for my liking. read more

A co-worker brough in these little rolls from there place, and, while they looked good enough to try, I could not explain how they tasted. I mean, maybe my expectations were just low, but wow, they were like out of my gentile world. They now how to bake up some great breakfast roll-thingies, and some breakfast-potato-thingys (I think it was potato), and some great cheese-danish-breakfast-roll-thingies. Really good challah bread perfect for French toast on a Sunday morning. The cookies are so yummy as well as the roll-up cakes covered in sprinkles. It's right of the train station at Fort Hamilton Parkway (D train), so I stop in there on the way to work sometimes. 90 cent coffee plus a black n' white cookie or a cheesey pastry makes for a great walk to work, especially with such warm greetings from the lady that works there int he mornings. read more

I went there this afternoon to finally knock this place off my To Try list. I walked in and the smell alone would bring me back any day of the week. It was so wonderfully sweet and bready and delicious, I actually couldn't concentrate for a minute or two. The woman I spoke to was polite, and my gushing about the smell and asking questions warmed her up and she wound up suggesting some sort of spinach-filled pastry that was pretty yummy. What I got: a single challah roll and the spinach pastry thing. What I thought: While both were good, I feel like both could have been better - from this place. I liked the spinach thing more than the challah - though I think I'm spoiled by the challah I used to get on the UWS from Silver Moon Bakery. I'm going to try and go back in the morning, when things are fresh out of the oven - I think both items will be vastly improved by a little heat. Overall: I plan on going back here a few more times to really round out my review - and there was nothing from my first visit to lead me to believe that I won't get as good or better food next time! read more

I remember my grandmother lived in borough park and used to get the cheese danishes from here. I live in chicago now so when I found out that I'd be in NYC and had some time to kill, I search all over Yelp to find the place and I found it, the best cheese danishes I have ever had in my life, cheese in every single bite! Only down draw was they seemed a little unorganized. Someone bought a danish right before me and paid $1.75, since I miss them and swore to my family if I found them that I would bring them. So long story short, I went to check out 11 of the danishes and the cashier acted like he wasn't sure of the price and then the owner asked how many and told him to charge me $2 each, I was kinda upset but willing to pay anything for those sweet cheese filled goodness danishes. read more

The tastes are ok, and prices are very cheap, but how about the sanitation? Got diarrhea twice from eating baked foods here. Their breads with sesame constantly has a mouldy smell. And the do not have letter grading, very suspicious. read more

This is such a wonderful find. We found it by accident and came home on a dark wintry evening with a bag full of bread, rolls and desserts for prices unthinkable were we in Manhattan. The ruggelach are wonderful and the lace cookies took me back to my childhood. This is the type of bakery that was ubiquitous when I was a child, but that I thought had disappeared. read more
