This condo is within walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops and grocery stores.

Now the bad: There are a group of people (we found out later that they own units here) who are not nice. They hang out at the pool daily, sit on the steps and talk very loudly. Then they complain to the workers if you play music near them. Our music was not loud at all and even the worker told us so and he felt bad. The workers say they play music by the pool too and it's only this group of owners who complain a lot. Oh and they give you dirty looks too. The unit was pretty well appointed but the owners must be quite tall. The toilet is really high and my feet dangled several inches off the floor while using it. The jetted tub was hard to get into and the bed was rather high too. If you are petite like me and get this unit, you will have to contact Aston to get a change, the front desk can't help you. Maybe we should have done that, but we arrived after Aston was closed for they day and once unpacked we didn't want to move the next day. Our unit did not have many electrical outlets and no USB ports. Luckily we brought along an extension cord and USB power adapters. The unit was equipped with standard plates, glasses, utensils, blender, toaster, coffee maker, stove, microwave, refrigerator with ice dispenser, and dishwasher. Kleenex, paper towels, dish soap, dishwasher soap, one package of laundry soap and plenty of bathroom towels. The grounds are well maintained, gardeners were trimming and sweeping most of the day. The lobby has hot coffee urns in the morning and delicious pineapple iced tea in the afternoons. The location is fantastic, steps away from the beach, next door to Whalers Village for shopping, right along the beach walk. We didn't use the pool but sat by it once chairs became available in the late afternoon (there were lots of chairs but even more chair hogs.) My husband did use the hot tub and reported it was quite hot. The pool area has coffee in the mornings and iced tea in the afternoons. I used the fitness center a couple of times. There were dumbbells of many weights and other great strength training equipment. There were also treadmills, ellipticals, and exercise bicycles. Water and towels were provided. Overall, we feel we made a great choice in booking The Whaler.

The kitchen was well stocked with everything including: Keurig coffee maker, Expresso maker, pots & pans, rice cooker, and stemware for every beverage imaginable! The beds were so comfortable and had the most luscious sheets to slip into after a shower in the modern bathroom. One thing I truly appreciated was that everything (and I mean everything LOL) was labeled making it so easy to put things away after using them. The views from the Livingroom and lanai were breathtaking. We spent every morning sipping coffee on the lanai and watching for whales and ended each day with a beverage on the Lanai watching the sunset. There is plenty to do on the property from swimming, having a BBQ, reading in the quiet lobby, and even fishing right on the shore in front of the house! Denise is the most genuine hostess. From the first contact until the day we left, she was very responsive and provided so much valuable information. I loved all the information she shared about local transportation, businesses, restaurants, customs, and places to visit. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, Luana Moana is the place to go! Funny tidbit- we are late night people and never go to be before midnight but, we were so relaxed and slept so good not one night out of 10 were we able to stay awake past 9:30 pm! It is situated in the middle of the island on a dead end road with a secluded beech at the end. Walking distance from marina, beech and aquarium. Ten minutes from OGG airport. The unit features two bedrooms ( King sized beds) two bathrooms and ever possible luxury amenity you could think of. The host is very informative and all furnishings are clean and new with a tastefully Hawaiian decor. My favorite activity was my morning cup of French Pressed coffee sitting on the Lanai watching the sunrise over Haleakala listening to the waves crashing against the sea wall. Watching the turtles surface; the whales breaching and the birds singing... Can't wait to return...

Biggest annoyance tho, was that our unit hadn't been properly cleaned. Some personal items left behind from a former occupant, and most of the dishes and glassware had to be washed before they were suitable for use. While there are plenty of fans, there's no air conditioning, which is a huge miss for a tourist resort catering to folks not necessarily used to this heat. Unlikely to return here. Lots of choices nearby, will go somewhere else next time.

Kahana is pretty close to Kaanapali but if you want to spend time in Kihei or further south then it's kinda a trek (about an hour each way). That was the only downside. We also got a text from the property manager a day into our trip making sure everything was ok which was appreciated. We would definitely stay again!

The CURRENT managers here are HANDS DOWN, the BEST. RYAN AND MALEA. Since they took over, everything has been excellent. The condos have ALWAYS been spectacular. All ocean facing, beautiful grounds, so SERENE and very well kept. Before Malea and Ryan there were issues with accountability when something went wrong in a unit. My last 5 visits, they took care of ANY issue, often when it wasn't their jobs. So- management is STELLAR These condos are ON MAALEAA BAY. The whales BREACH right there. The outrigger club paddles by every morning. Egrets chase the gardeners around. It's seriously paradise. If you like water slides, lots of people- this is not your place. The most people you will see is at sunset when the condo owners all bring there conch shells down to blow for the sunset. It IS a killer location tho. Close to all the Kihei stuff, not far from Lahaina or Paia. 2 pools, 2 groups of condos surrounding each pool. Beach is public but the only people you see are people walking by- otherwise it's quiet. Don't be an idiot, this place is AMAZING. JUST GO. Just not when I want to, DAMMIT!!
