The tiki decor is fabulous. I want to like this spot more but after a handful of visits, the food and drink are just ok. The food menu has a good variety and is well presented but is a bit pricey and just ok. There's a big list of traditional and house tiki cocktails but they don't even use crushed ice, the hallmark of tiki cocktails. They prefer payment in cash but include a 3% service fee on the bill to cover the credit card fee. It's nominal but when paying cash, need to take that into consideration because it's incorporated into the total. Love the decor and wish I could feel the same about everything else. read more

Long overdue review (last summer!) but my friends and I were reminiscing about this place. We had wanted a special night out that evening. I had been dealing with some medical problems and needed to cancel a planned cruise so we thought -- TIKI, TROPICAL!! And this place fits the bill in terms of decor and vibe -- perfect. I don't drink but my friends do and they very much enjoyed their cocktails. And the service was attentive and lovely. So why one star? THE FOOD IS JUST AWFUL. We ordered sushi -- inedible, low-quality fish. Lots of fried foods. Nothing really special or inventive in our minds, sorry to say. Not high quality. The fried dishes were fine I guess, but deeply fried, almost a little TOO fried. Just a miss on the food in every way. While this is a great idea and I love the decor and the people who work here, this place was a total miss for me food-wise. We came during Happy Hour. Poutine was undercooked aenemic french fries with really cheap melted cheese all over that hardened in such a plasticized way that it was really hard to remove pieces to eat after it cooled. Flavor was almost non-existent outside of the meat. Sweet Potato Tater Tots were more of a potato ball and tasted like licking an over-tinsled christmas tree. WAY too much of the spices and a really really weird very thick and hard breading. Idk how this made it on the menu, but it needs to be seriously re-evaluated. The Philadelphia sushi roll was on par with grocery store sushi. The fish on a stick options we got - cow, shrimp, octopus & spam - were served with raw pineapple (the best part). The octopus was inedibly rubbery, the shrimp were overcooked, the cow was tasteless and overcooked, the spam was edible. We also ordered drinks, but both were insanely sweet and not very balanced or strong flavors. Our server was a sweetheart. I'm sure the lighting and the decor really come alive when there is live music going or a performance happening. I used to be a Kahuna Tiki NoHo person, but finally have made it over here after that location closed. There is actually parking available, which is a huge plus! The decor is so fun and on brand. I felt like I was transported to a tropical tiki spot in a faraway land. There was even a live band there to bring up the vibes. My friend and I sat in the bar and were pleased to see a familiar face as our server!!! The drink menu is INSANE and SO GOOD! I need to come back with more friends for more drinks. I ordered the tempura avo, the aloha pizza, and a spicy tuna roll. My friend got the Oahu roll. All of it was delicious! So perfectly prepared and flavorful. The environment is wonderful! It's the perfect place to hang out with friends over one (or two!) of their AMAZING selection of drinks. I had their smoked salmon sushi roll and it was so delicious, with salmon that had the perfect texture and a beautiful presentation. The divers suit in the center and the Easter Island Head really brings the ambiance to the tiki bar. To best describe this place - imagine a big time tiki collector wants to share all his prized tiki memorabilia. So come and enjoy this magnificent collection. The drinks are well made with my favorite being the Elvis. The food was delicious the chicken sandwich was one of the most flavorful ones I've had. The spices are different than your typical fried chicken sandos. The sushi was beautifully presented and not heavy on the rice. The locals only roll is a must have for the spam lovers. The service is friendly but can sometimes be slow due to having only 2 servers going around all the tables. We ate here last night for the first time - some friends of ours love this place and wanted to share it with us. We were not disappointed! Walking in, you can't help but love the quirky, eccentric, overstuffed Tiki vibe. I recommend taking a few minutes just to look around and enjoy the decor. It was Wednesday, so they had a live jazz band. Megan, our server, was happy and bubbly and took great care of us throughout the evening. The drinks were amazing (I recommend the Majestic Mai Tai). The food was good...not great...but suited the vibe perfectly. Everything we tried was tasty and fresh. At some point during the evening, every employee came over to say hello and welcome us! Some other reviewers have mentioned the slow/poor service. To them, I say go to your corporate restaurant where they try to turn tables as quickly as possible! Absolutely LOVE this place! I was fortunate to bring a small group to Kahuna Tiki Tu for my birthday and I was so happy I did. There plenty of seating in the many different dining areas. Additionally the bar(s) on the left side of the restaurant provide great options for those looking for drinks only. I did see the side room on the right being utilized but it looked like a dedicated space for larger groups. There also seemed to be some outdoor seating too facing the pool of the hotel. The food was a perfect compliment to the drinks were ordered. The fried rice packed plenty of flavor and the couple of rolls we had were awesome too. Based on the vibes the menu items are really conducive to sharing in a group. The Brainkiller and the mai tai were the drinks of choice for me. Great balance of tropical flavors and not watered down. I spotted a Tiki Market Place event going off and that's what led me to this gem. They hold a marketplace once a month. So after my perusing the outside vendors we headed inside to partake in some libations. We sat in the bar area and let me you the vibe was vibing! It was full on Tiki decor and I was there for it. They offer both food and drinks but I was there for a couple of Painkillers and they did not disappoint! Their drinks are yummy, potent and perfectly executed! My husband had a few appetizers and he enjoyed them. Next time I go I'm going to make sure I have an appetite. The staff deserve their own paragraph. It's a family run business and they are all just lovely. There's not just one person waiting on you. They all check in on you but they don't do it in a pushy way...like they want you to keep adding to the bill or are rushing you out. If you haven't been you must. Unfortunately, the smell of the restaurant when we first arrived was off putting. It smelled kind of stale, moldy, like a bar from the 1970's. The decor is kind of tacky and definitely dusty. The food was not tasty at all, the various dishes that we had, chicken, beef, macaroni salad, etc., was just smothered with sweet sauces, not a hint of it tasting Hawaiian at all. The prices were exorbitant in comparison to the portion sizes, you only got a handful of each item. Lastly, we ordered Pina Colada's for almost $15.00 each and they were so watered down, not a remote taste of alcohol and the cream tasted like it was borderline expired. There is no parking attached to the restaurant. You're going to have to drive around for a while to find street parking. We just can't find a single good thing to say about the food or drinks. However, the waitress was very friendly and the food and drinks were served fast, but that's because it was practically empty. The live entertainment was really fun, it was a Cabaret act. It's not the worst restaurant, my friends and I did have a great time just being together. We all really wanted to love this place because we love theme restaurants, but with the prices being so high, the portions so tiny and the food being so sweet and practically inedible, we just can't recommend to anyone. read more

The bar side looks great, the décor is fun, and it has all the vibes you'd hope for. Honestly, the bar area feels much nicer than the dining side, so I'd recommend sticking to drinks if you visit. Unfortunately, the service was the biggest disappointment, especially since this was our first time there. We called ahead to check if we needed a reservation and were told we didn't. When we arrived, there was no one at the hostess stand. After waiting a few minutes, another couple walked in and a man, who we later realized was the owner, seated us, but simply pointed to a table. We didn't mind heading over ourselves, but it set the tone for the night. His wife, who seemed to be the main waitress, wiped down the table but didn't leave menus. After waiting more than five minutes, we had to flag her down just to get the menu. The moment she handed them to us, she immediately asked, "You're ready to order?" We had literally received the menus one second earlier. When I said we needed a moment, she sighed with an "aww" and acted annoyed, as if we were the ones taking too long. She also overshared quite a bit, more than we needed to know as first-time visitors, and it made the experience awkward. The rain caused her other restaurant to close etc, all within the first few minutes of interaction. I only ordered one roll, and the food was about 2/5. Not terrible, but definitely nothing I'd come back for. Most importantly: be aware of the 3% credit card fee. We paid cash, but still noticed we were charged the 3%. When I asked about it, she made an excuse about someone else giving us the change, even though she was the one who handed it to us. She eventually said, "I'll give you back the 85 cents," but it's not about the 85 cents. It's the principle, and customers should not be charged a credit card fee when paying with cash. After I asked about the 3% charge, she made excuses about needing to pay credit card fees, even though we paid cash and should not have been charged anything extra. On top of all that, she spoke extremely loudly, which completely threw off the relaxed tiki vibe. It was such a bizarre experience from start to finish. Another truly bizarre thing was when she took our cash and immediately asked, "How much should I bring back?" I'm used to giving the payment, receiving the change, and then deciding the tip privately, not being asked out loud, in front of other guests and nearby tables. It was uncomfortable and very unprofessional. Another note: After she handed back the 85 cents (she returned a dollar), she added, "I know you haven't had the greatest experience," and then went on to explain that she doesn't pay herself and relies on tips, as if we should feel sorry for her or adjust our tip out of pity, despite everything that had happened. It felt inappropriate and added even more discomfort to an already awkward situation. To make things even stranger, the couple seated behind us received three sushi orders after I had already finished my roll, that's like 8 pieces of sushi even though they ordered at least 20 minutes before me. The whole flow of service felt completely off. Such a bizarre experience! Overall, great ambiance, but the service and transparency need major improvement. I'd come back for the atmosphere and maybe a drink at the bar, but not for dinner and definitely not for the service, definitely not the wife waitress. She should let others be the server. read more

Though the ambiance and entertainment were great, I will not come back here. Service was extremely poor. I'm very confused why the owner is working as a server. Also, they have no bussers and definitely not enough waiters. We sat at our table for over 25 minutes without waters and our drinks took about 35 minutes to arrive. I had to flag down the waitress and she and the other staff promptly threw bartenders under the bus. But nanoseconds after I checked on our drinks, they were on the table. Our meal took forever. We were starving by the time it came. The food was just fine. Not bad, not amazing. I think if this place doesn't adjust its approach to service, it will shut down. read more

My family and I were staying in the hotel next to the restaurant. We are from Hawaii and we just wanted a few drinks that were close. It made sense to go to the bar right next to our hotel especially since it was Hawaii themed. When we first entered it was dark and filled with "Hawaii" themed decorations which was great because it really gave a tourists point of view of Hawaii. We sat at the bar with a large group because we wanted to drink. We ordered one round of shots and were checked out. We tipped 20% which was standard but continued to order drinks and kept the tab open. The bartender (Blake) was amazing and we drank close to 6-7 rounds of shots with him and he was extremely friendly and helpful. We were about to check out but wanted to come back. While he left to get our check the manager (Her name started with an M) came up to us and asked if everything was alright. We said yes everything is amazing and she said "oh ok well I usually check on tables that leave low tips" in which she was referring to our first closed check ($112) but our current tab was ($400). I understand asking us about how everything is going....but to say it's based off how we tipped before we closed our next check and in the rude tone she asked was very unprofessional. It's almost like she's trying to pressure us to leave a bigger tip. Myself and my other cousins worked in industry before and understand the hustle but this was out of pocket. Especially since we planned to tip Blake a generous tip because of his amazing work and service with our group. Not to say 20% on our first check was a low tip.... But that was not low. She was very unprofessional and it ruined our groups experience. Luckily Blake brought us back after we closed our second check and we ended up spending another $500 in drinks and food he convinced us to try which was all great. Our group had a good time and want to shoutout Blake for his help and outstanding service. The manager...needs to do better. If you don't work in industry you shouldn't be managing people in it. It's really kills a business to out the wrong people in charge. Thank you to Blake for his patience and outstanding service. We had our doubts about the restaurant but Blake made it all the better. I went to Kahuna Tiki on Sunday for dinner and a show . I travel to Hawaii often and have to say, this place did not disappoint in comparison . The dancers were beautiful and their show was very entertaining and authentic. They had traditional and modern numbers in their performance and I was not expecting that kind of quality at this place. I was even called up to dance. Such great and inviting energy ! The fire at the end was my favorite part. What a memorable night! I will definitely bring friends and come back on another show night. I thought The poke I got was a bit too pricy at first, but changed my mind once I tried it. It was So flavorful, I found myself rating it higher than a lot of the top competitor's Poke at the festival in Kauai I attended this year. The service was impressive since I noticed only one gal covering all of the tables . Please give her a raise! I love how every part of Kahuna Tiki Tu makes for a nice photo op ! We had an amazing time celebrating my mom's birthday at Kahuna Tiki Tu last night. The restaurant decor is super fun and spans from tiki room, haunted mansion and pirates of the Caribbean. We ordered the shrimp cocktail, surf burger, Hawaiian fried rice, kahuna salad and fried chicken sandwich. We'll be back to try the sweet potato tater tots since they ran out. The server was very kind and when there was a slight mistake with our order, she quickly remedied the issue. Would love to come back for the live entertainment or marketplace events.
