I've been enjoying this location since they first opened. I usually call in for pickup to enjoy at home. This evening I had time and dined in, ordered once I arrived going with the 2 Cajun grilled fish combo. The girl at register asks my name and I said Stuart and she says like Rod Stewart, I was like o.k.-that was awkward, sit down and 20 min later out comes my food. My husband & I had lunch for the 1st time at the California Fish Grill, Laurel Canyon, North Hollywood. They offer a 10% Senior discount only at the cashier counter. We had three pieces of battered fried fish with squash & fries, a garlic buttered shrimp skewer, & a large bowl of clam chowder soup. You can get small containers of tartar sauce & cocktail sauce added more flavor to the fish. The portions were large & tasty. I wish that I could get their recipe for the clam chowder soup. You select your own table after ordering, & then pick up your tray of food in about 10 minutes. The staff were kind & attentive. I gave this place another chance but unfortunately still really unimpressed. I got their protein bowl for "free" in the app (really $6 cus I had to buy a drink), and it was 80% rice. I wish there was an option so sub the rice for salad at least because there is SO. MUCH. RICE. And it was not very flavourful. I ordered this bowl twice just to give them a really solid second chance but both times, I just ate the protein and left the rice alone. This place desparatelt needs an option to sub rice for. First of all, this is the slowest location that Ive ever been to. Its enough employees standing around but always only 1 cashier to take your order. I use to go to this location to get 3 pieces of fish and chips . Today I went and it took for ever to order and when I got home and opened my bag, I was extremely Disappointed . The staff was super friendly and the wait time from ordering to getting our food seemed to be on par for any restarant that cooks meals such as this to order. From observing a table next to us even the small ones were digging in and I love that so much not the typical chicken nuggets and mac n cheese but a healthy variety that they enjoyed as well. The bathrooms are very clean & spacious. The tables were very clean and great seating inside and outside wherever you wish to sit. There is a clean up area where you take your tray and leave your plate. When you order you can order on the huge tablet it's a bit tricky but gets the job done to get your order in or you can just order with the person that there as well. I have always LOVED this place, however, lately, the last few orders I got were really bad. I don't know if they changed their supplier or something but the quality in their chicken is near inedible. I always get the Avocado bowl with Chicken and sometimes I would eat it 2-3 times a week because the chicken was so delicious. But lately when I order it, the season is non existent and the quality of the chicken is just awful. It's chewy, dry, and it fees like I'm biting into chunky squishy ball like pieces. I don't know how to explain it. Super disappointing because I really did love this place. My meal today was just so bad. Luckily Grubhub was able to refund me. Hope they get things back to normal. It has grilled salmon, mixed greens, miso slaw, sliced avocado, quinoa-edamame rice, red & green onion, diced tomato, and black sesame seeds. The salmon was cooked perfectly; juicy still yet crispy on the edges. Sauce was added generously, which kept the plate blending perfectly together. My only concern is that there was no indication on the menu that this plate would be so spicy!! I couldn't eat through half of it without my mouth burning from the heat. Just something to note. Next time I'm curious on ordering something new, I'll ask the staff if it is spicy or not. Since we were in the area we wanted to shop, we gave CFG a chance. I had no idea it was so good and had healthy and tasty items. Service was fast and our orders were correct. The establishment was very clean and had some good tunes playing. I opted for their swai and salmon combo with tomato/feta salad and asparagus. I mean regular fast food doesn't offer asparagus....CFG is in a league all its own. My picky son wasn't hungry but I couldn't just let him sit and watch his dad and I feed our faces...so I got him fries. They were so good! Plenty of options at a great price are available.
