My new favorite coffee place in Waikiki! I go to the original Kai Coffee in the Hyatt Regency Waikiki at least once a week so I was really excited to learn that they were opening a new location just down the street in the 'Alohilani Resort. They have the same great coffee, tea, and sandwiches as their old location, plus they have a crepe station. I recently tried the Nutella, banana, and strawberry crepe and loved it! Also worth noting is the great view at this location. It's located right on Waikiki beach so you can see the ocean right from your table. Can't wait to visit again! read more

They have delicious cold brew and a huge selection of specialty milks. Oat milk anyone? Yes, oat. It is delicious Macadamia nut milk? Almond milk? Soy milk? They have them all!! I love coffee and this place did not disappoint. The staff are very friendly. The atmosphere is very modern and comfortable. Oh and they have an ultra modern espresso machine. I had to look it up. 2015-2017 official barista championship espresso machine. There is just something about my espresso coming out of a $25,000 espresso machine. Mmmmm. I came here twice. The latte was delicious and pretty looking. When I had a black coffee, they poured generous amount of milk as I requested. I also got to talk to the roaster for advice - as I was looking for packed coffee beans for gift. He explained extensively so that I could make the right decision which one to buy. It was my first time having macadamian nut in my Latte, and I have to say if they had the exact Macadamian Nut used at Kai Coffee on the mainland I'd be having it all the time, because I do not like the Macadamian Nut flavors we have in California. This coffee was burnt. I ordered a small vanilla iced latte and my boyfriend ordered a large white mocha. They burnt our espresso beans that were in our latte. I could tell because I have worked at a coffee shop before and it's not that hard to tell what burnt espresso tastes like. My latte tasted mildly burnt and the milk was not filled up all the way at all, while his tasted completely burnt and was honestly disgusting. We debated whether or not we should ask them or remake it and decided to. When we asked them to, they said they said that it would taste the exact same since they made it "perfectly". That is not true. Basically they were trying to shoo us away and that they didn't have enough time to fix their drink that they did not make right the first time. They also offered a refund, but if we're going to drink coffee, wouldn't we want to enjoy it? Why would you want a refund when you want a coffee? The workers were very rude and we decided that we didn't even want them to remake the coffee due to the workers throwing a fit, so we just left. I understand it can be a little crazy working in a coffee shop, but throwing fits at customers because you didn't make a drink right isn't okay. I've been there, I've worked it, and if you don't make a coffee right, you just remake it. End of story. A friend of ours also got the iced matcha latte and they said it tasted more like milk than actual matcha. It is not just the espresso lattes that need work here. No thanks! read more

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked their signature latte which is the macadamia nut latte. I like my lattes sweet and creamy, and this was definitely it. I asked the barista how they make it because I wanted to see if it was something I could make at home. He said it's just a latte with their macadamia nut syrup. I also tried their crepes and breakfast sandwich, and they were just okay. The crepe tasted like it wasn't quite done yet, and I didn't eat the breakfast sandwich right away, so the bread became rock hard. This was my second experience with Kai Coffee. This time we visited 'post' COVID-19 (ish). I chose against pastries mostly because the pastries were all displayed without prices and that always invites overpricing. Oh well, we came for coffee anyways. I chose the pour over kona peaberry. My wife noted that it almost appeared as if the barista was trying to dissuade us from the pour over suggesting that it would take longer in a tone that suggested we might not have known that or that he didn't want to put in the extra effort. She might have read too much into it, but it was enough to make her comment to me. The pour over tasted fine; very rich in flavor and it didn't actually take too long. I also tried their chocolate chip cookie and loved that it had big chunks of chocolate in it. Service was excellent too! At Kai Coffee, once you place your order and walking your ways around the shop, your order is ready in minutes. Layout is very simple and minimal, which I liked. There are some seating when you walk in, place your order, walking round the counter while browsing the roasting room and items to purchase, then meeting the barista at the other side of the counter to get your drink. Kai Coffee was my daily morning stop during my stay at the A'lohilani hotel. It was steps away to get my Iced Kai Latte (Macadamia Nut) and steps away from the Waikiki beach.
