Am really glad I chose this tray for breakfast today. I was craving a simple crepe (lemon and powdered sugar) and most places have all the fancy crepes. I was happy to find that they have both simple crepes (Paris) AND the fancy ones! I also ordered the veggie omelette and was happy to see it came with a delicious salad too! I saw Cotton Candy Lemonade and had to try it. It was unique and refreshing. The ambiance is fun and inviting, the staff is friendly and helpful ...even giving me recommendations based on what I was looking for. The young woman who helped me came out to tell me that the avocados they had that day (for the veggie omelette) weren't good enough to serve, she offered me more of any other vegetables they had. I appreciated the integrity and care not to let a customer eat subpar avocados! There is seating inside and outside(covered) and the friendly staff delivers your food to the table. My only personal critique is that the food is served in to go containers and plastic utensils are given. If I'm eating AT a restaurant, I prefer plates and non-plastic utensils. After striking out at 2 other Kailua breakfast places on a Tues morning we ended up at Le Crepe Cafe. Nice decor with tables both inside and out. They were about 1/2 full. There were only 2 other people in front of us, but it took 10 minutes for them to take our order. Maybe they were understaffed but the guy in front (the owner?) was trying to juggle making drinks, taking orders, and clearing tables. Not an impressive start. We order a chicken mushroom crepe, a breakfast of champions, and a bacon and BBQ omelet. The 2 crepes were served but no omelet. Finally, after about 15 minutes I asked about the omelet. They had clearly forgotten it as they quickly cooked it. Serving it, he apologized for being so late and gave us a treat of Nutella which was very nice. The salad with the omelet was very tasty. The water is self-serve with cups that looked like they came from a dentist's office. Maybe 4oz? The smallest water cups I've ever seen in a restaurant and annoying because we had to keep refilling. I really was hoping to like this place. I love crepes. However it's rather disappointing because their crepe was so thick almost like a sweet tortilla.... Crepes supposed to be thin and chewy, and it's opposite of that here. I understand if their crepes don't taste good because it's not their specialty, but there's a certain expectation from the customer when the name of the establishment contains the word crepe. The savory one had good toppings at least, given that the crepe was like tortilla, I just treated it like a quesadilla. However, their mango crepe was not pleasant to have. Aside from the tortilla-like crepe, the mangoes were not sweet and were cut into large chunks where I had to use my knife to cut them into smaller cubes. I just ate it not to waste food and money. Their menu pricing didn't make sense either. A close to plain crepe, with just whipped cream, syrup and the basic stuff, cost $13.99. How to justify that? My friend and I got there around 8:45am and waited 50 minutes after ordering for the food to come out. I think a big group had just gotten there but that's still a bit too long in my opinion for a crepe. We had visited the spot when the old crepe place was here (table service), but the new set up is to order at the counter and they'll bring the food to your table. Browsing one Sunday afternoon and saw this place right next to the brewery. A lot of people were sitting outside and the food looked good so I walked in and was pleasantly surprised. It's pretty small but lots of outdoor seating and you can get it to go. The crepes were huge. I got the chicken mushroom crepe and their pesto is to die for! I was in heaven. I could've eaten it by the spoonful. The balsamic glaze they had with it was delicious too. It was the perfect addition to the crepes. God I love a good crepe! Especially when you're told that it's the "best" crepe on the island. My idea of what's the "best " or what is considered the best by someone who thinks Taco Bell has great Mexican food has given me a rude awakening about the taste buds of many people here on Oahu. I don't think I could stand to watch the girls puppy dog eyes practically begging us to change our mind and leave or the young cook who rolled his eyes at us several times. So TO GO it was. My crepe had a doughy texture. Most likely from putting a hot crepe into a cardboard container, causing it to steam up and overcook the crepe. My banana slices were under ripened, my hazelnut spread melted and leaked all over the cardboard container and there was no point to having whipped cream on my crepe unless I purposely wanted some sweet milk. My whipped cream had melted back to its original liquid form. Remember when I said my daughter ordered savory? Big mistake, really big mistake. WHY MUST THE ONLY BACON BE TURKEY BACON? 4 letters, 1 word, YUCK. I HATE TURKEY BACON.. My daughter said it was under cooked and couldn't eat it. It looked cooked to me, but what do I know? The person behind the register (bald gentleman) was not welcoming or pleasant at all, quite stoic if you ask me. He did not greet anyone that entered their cafe, when taking your order doesn't repeat your order back to you to confirm nor does he thank you for your patronage! Very disappointing! In fact, along the lines of service the other 2 employees were also not exuding characteristics of even wanting to be there working, no one looking up at customers from behind their protective shield, no acknowledging of customers presence, nothing! Very disappointing. $50 for two crepes and 2 coffees (cappuccino and latte) for breakfast. I got a veggie and my husband got a bonjour. The bonjour was better than the veggie. My veggie was so oily from the pesto. I don't know if they made it poorly or if this is their standard but it had an excessive amount of oil from the pesto which made the crepe soggy and wet. Also they serve the crepes in tiny takeout containers even if you're eating there which makes it hard to eat it . I like go here once in a while whenever I'm craving crepes. A few days ago, I went back for the first time in a few months and the prices increased and the portion size decreased! I opted for the avocado toast which I paid $18 for, for it to come with ONE piece of toast (small piece of ciabatta) which I found to be ridiculous. I knew it wasn't right because I ordered the avocado toast before, and it use come with two decent size pieces of ciabatta. I asked one of the workers if it comes with only one piece of toast, and they said something about it being their owners new procedure for all of their toast options. We tried this crepe place on Sunday morning (10/2) and were slightly underwhelmed by the food and by the prices. At this restaurant you order at the counter first and find an open table if you're dining in. There is quite a bit of indoor and outdoor seating but unfortunately because no one is regularly bussing the tables, all the open ones had food crumbs and coffee drops from previous patrons. Not a huge deal, just something to note. You'll probably have to clean your own table before sitting down. We ordered the Ono crepe (savory breakfast) and one of their fall specials, the apple pie crepe (sweet fruit). Both were on the small side (see photos) and were also both pricey for their size, ranging between $15-17. The Apple pie crepe was very good but the chicken in the Ono crepe was over cooked and they also forgot the egg in that one. But I think that's where it stops as your employee, Manager, Kolby definitely did not display ANY ALOHA spirt to me or my Aunty when we came in tonight. We were attending the Fall Festival in Kailua and decided to walk around the block (outside of the festival) when I mentioned to her that I have always wanted to eat crepes from your restaurant. She said lets go! We walked in, chatted with the two kids who were working, ordered, paid $18+ for ONE crepe and got a couple glasses of water and sat down. There was another couple in front of us that one of the employees walked over to them to tell them he was going to put their crepe in a to go container. I stopped him as he was walking back behind the counter and said "I do not want mine in a to go container you don't close for another 25 minutes". Having worked in Kailua for all my teenage years, I know I always wanted to leave right when my shift was over, but was always taught that the customers come first...a few minutes later this same employee who I asked not to give me our crepe in a to go container, brought it to me in a to go container. As I started to eat my crepe, I saw another couple walk in and they seem to know this employee behind the counter. They ordered, sat down, then got their food in a much larger container. While I was up refilling my water cup I asked this employee why did my crepe come in the smaller container (see photo) vs what his friends got (see photo), and his response was "they are sharing". I responded asking, "well didn't they get the same thing as me, one crepe" and he said, "shut the fuck up you bitch, you fucking cunt!" I said, "excuse me, I didn't hear you, did you just call me a bitch and a cunt?" He said "yes", then told me I had to leave. I said, "may I get your name?" and he said "Kolby like the cheese", I didn't hear him so I repeated it but said, "Kolby like the chiefs?" I said, "may I get your Managers name" and before I knew it, he was next to me, slamming your business card on the table where I was getting water. He told me to leave or he would have to call security, and I asked him to please call security. As I was packing up my food and purse, I turned my camera on on my phone, told him he was being recorded and asked him to repeat himself. He denied calling me a bitch and a cunt, however my Aunt was there and heard everything. As I was walking out of the restaurant I asked the couple (his friends) if they heard him call me a bitch and a cunt and the girl said yes. When I asked her for her name she didn't want to give it to me, at which time I told her I understand, but know that I will be going to the owner and you both witness what he called me. We went outside and as we were chatting the security guard walked by, we told him what happened and he walked in an out of your restaurant in less than 10 seconds, apparently Kolby told him everything was ok. I am absolutely appalled at the language that came out of Kolby's mouth, and more appalled that he would call a woman who is old enough to be his mother those names, and in front of my Aunty who is 70! In Kailua, we respect one another, we support one another and we love one another, THAT is the ALOHA SPRIRT. No matter if you're having a good day or bad day, when you work with the public, you NEVER call a woman ( or anyone out of their name). This town is small, and I remined Kolby of that. Reviews and talking story go a long way. You never know who knows someone that knows someone.......your reputation could be demolished in minutes. You never know who your serving, or sitting next to! **The owner responded that, "Colby is indeed going through a lot personaly and physically and is planned to get vacations soon and also for health issue but that does in no point make it right to disrespect anyone".... Sorry but if you know your employee maybe unstable, you should talk to him/her before it escalates to something like this. I do not have the time or energy to meet with the owner to hear about what Colby is going through. My Uncles own restaurants in Kailua and town and I know everyone is struggling for help, but everyone I have told have all said the same thing "COLBY SHOULD BE FIRED ON THE SPOT"....Maybe that's his "vacation"....I just hope Colby doesn't slip up and call another woman out her name b/c you never know if someone will be as calm as me and just walk away........... read more
