Located right near the Hyatt Centric hotel and open pretty late, Kai Poke Waikiki was a pleasant surprise through its poke bowl that hit the spot after a long evening of activities. Service was pleasant and efficient in this bright, clean storefront. Ordering was easy for a custom poke bowl, and is basically choosing 1,2 or 3 scoops of poke, with the sides being preset and included seaweed salad, edamame, and sliced cucumbers. We also got the free optional fried garlic chips. The spicy ahi poke was creamy and tender, and the shoyu poke was well-seasoned with shoyu, ogo, onion, and sesame oil. There are a variety of other preset poke combination bowls, as well as sashimi and sushi choices. The size of the poke bowl was moderate for the price point, but overall, it was a good experience and Kai Poke fills a particular niche. read more

Food (4/5): The poke bowl is solid and I like how you can add a bunch of veggies unlike other Hawaiian places which is mostly just the rice and fish. The seasoning on the fish wasn't my favorite but still good. Service (5/5): No issues with the service and the lady did a good job of quickly making our poke bowl. I needed my poke fix while in Hawaii. This place was across the street from my stay, so it was so convenient. I ordered the small portion of Hawaiian and shoyu flavor, I think. For the price and the quality of the poke, it was underwhelming. The poke is expensive, yet the portions are small (one tiny scoop!), fish isn't as marinated as other poke shops, and I suspect the fish isn't fresh :( ... I got a small poke bowl ($16.99) which comes with two poke styles of your choice. Base choice of sushi rice, brown rice, and green salad. I chose the Hawaiian Ahi and California Ahi with sushi rice. You also get choices for a free side: I chose seaweed salad and crab mayo (paid additional $1.50 for this crab mayo). They also give you a free sauce on the side. Service is good and ambiance of the shop is cute. The fish here was just disappointing and doesn't compare to other poke shops. read more

We were waiting outside for our Bus to take up back to our cruise ship there was a handicapped lady sitting in one of his chairs ( I understand it was for his customers) but... he all but dumped the lady out of the chair and yelled for sitting in his chair. Oh and there was not one person in his restaurant!! I would not eat here if there was no more food on earth just plain RUDE!!! read more

Do you like a premium-quality poke bowl? Look no further. Service is amazing, food is tasty, my favorite poke place in Waikiki! My favorite is their spicy salmon, personally, I find it better than the spicy tuna as it is a bit fattier while the tuna feels a bit mushier. I typically add on avocado, crab mayo, tobiko, and cucumber. Kai, meaning ocean, really fits the theme for the poke bar with ocean waves decor. Gives it a very touristy feel but nonetheless a very beautiful interior design. Staff are very friendly and give decent portion sizes. My bf and I walked from our hotel (Hilton village) to here one night because we were craving poke and didn't want to drive out. They have pretty good fish for the poke and they also offer a variety of inari (rice with toppings wrapped in sweet tofu skin). The inari were pretty good, I didn't get the combo, I just got salmon and eel.. the poke bowl was good too. Overall was decent but it is pricey as it's right in Waikiki. read more

Looking for something grab & go but is actually filling, healthy and most of all fresh?! Then this is it. Conveniently located besides Ross, there's plenty street parking as well as a parking structure shared with other businesses. Kai Poke offers a "create your own" poke bowl with plenty of choices and they give you the right amount of servings. They also offer açaí bowls and "Kai Chef Specials" if you aren't sure of what to choose. Since I don't eat raw (I know I know Boo!) I was able to "create my own bowl" by choosing Kai Rice, Garlic Shrimp, Ginger, Crab Mayo and Miso Soup! I can't get enough of their Kai Rice, I'm not sure if its the garlic or the sesame oil but it just really elevated the flavors of my bowl although I only have a few toppings. DO NOT forget to get their Pineapple Iced Tea! It comes with pineapple chunks (that I will surely copy at home). They also sell some resin/epoxy wave ocean artworks that is the same as their table. (Talk about those instagram food photos)--- and those table costs $800 each. Thank you so much for the efficient staff that keeps the line going. The chef came out and greeted us as well. I don't think I've encountered a bad poke place in Hawaii. Kai poke is no exception. I got a poke bowl with salmon as my fish. Delicious - I could eat poke bowls like Kai's for the rest of my life without getting tired of it. To add a cherry on top, Junbi matcha is downstairs if you need a drink to go with your poke bowl. read more

This was a great place near my hotel (Outrigger Beachcomber Waikīkī -- that gets five stars, too! -- that I happened to find because the Ross Dress For Less was my tour pick-up spot and Kai Poke is right next-door, LOL. The girl behind the counter was very nice and I got a three-fish (octopus, Hawaiian ahi, spicy salmon) bowl to go. Seaweed salad is my jam, so I asked her to add a little bit more, which she was happy to do. The whole thing including tip was $24.50, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a seafood meal that fresh and good at that price anywhere else in Waikīkī! The next time I'm back, I will definitely hit up Kai Poke more often! read more

I ordered the Lemon Salmon, Hawaiian salmon, and Hawaiian Ahi mix Poke and it tasted so good! Super fresh fish and seasoning to the point. I also enjoy that you put on any type of toppings free. The staff was very hospitable, and open kitchen was immaculate, this fact made me have more confidence in the establishment. Kai Poke is a fantastic spot to enjoy fresh and flavorful poke bowls. They offer a Mini Poke for $12.99, which comes with one protein--my favorite being the lemon shoyu salmon. The combination of zesty lemon and savory shoyu with the fresh salmon is simply delightful but they don't have scallop or crab!!! I like the other poke place more in the Alomoana mall but, the location is conveniently close to all the action, making it a great choice for a quick and satisfying meal. Highly recommend giving it a try if you need a small bite to keep you going. read more

This poke spot is in downtown Waikiki on a boring side street but offers a healthy option for a fair price. There's a little bit of seating inside but I took it back to the hotel. The service is friendly and there are lots of options for bowls. I do prefer the poke at other spots in Honolulu but this is the best, low cost option in Waikiki. read more

This spot is quick and conveniently located close to where I work. I usually come here once a week. I love that they make your poke bowl right in front of you ( it's similar to like subway/pieology). They have a great selection of pokes to choose from as well as additional toppings. I always get spicy tuna over sushi rice with wakame salad, crab mayo, and a couple slices of avocado. Sometimes the sushi rice is a little bit on the warm side, probably because it was made fresh. I prefer my sushi rice not to be warm. Other than that, I would say to check this place out! read more

The menu has a huge variety of poke, which is great, although it was a little overwhelming deciding what to order. Ordering itself is quick and straightforward. I ordered a regular bowl ($18) with the tako limu, spicy salmon, and shoyu tuna. The biggest thing to consider here is the value. At $18 for a regular bowl, I expected both exceptional quality and bold flavors. While the fish quality was excellent, the seasoning didn't quite match the price point for me. Shoyu Tuna - Unfortunately my least favorite of the three. It lacked seasoning and tasted fairly plain. They do provide soy sauce packets, but I personally don't expect to have to season poke myself at this price point. Madako Limu - Easily the standout. The octopus was cut into generous chunks, giving it a great texture, and it had the most balanced, flavorful seasoning of the three selections. Spicy Salmon - The salmon itself was fresh and buttery, and I liked that it included masago for added texture. However, despite the name, it wasn't spicy and the overall flavor was pretty mild. One thing I can't criticize is the quality of the fish. Everything tasted very fresh, with buttery texture and no sinew or chewy pieces, which speaks to the quality of the seafood. Overall, I can understand why people come here for the freshness of the fish. If you prefer lightly seasoned poke that lets the seafood shine, this may be your style. Personally, I was hoping for more flavor to justify the price, so while I'm glad I tried it, there are other poke spots I'd choose first.

See musubi and onigiri have humble origins as a quickly made homespun snack or on the go lunch, and when you spot them in the convenience environment they're often a giant ball of rice with a tinge of protein or seasoning for flavor. At Iyasume, these are culinary adventures, stacked with ingredients, all in handheld form, and the variety they offer is IMPRESSIVE! Of course musubi starts with the classic, SPAM. I had to order the kimchi + spam, shiso + spam, and unagi + tamago + spam, all of which were awesome (even the next day!). Onigiri here are actually layered with ingredients, so you get them in every bite, unlike the convenience store versions! They have a HUGE menu, and I went with spicy mentaiko and salmon, spicy mentaiko and ikura, ikura and salmon, and tuna mayo curry, all of which were great. I LOVE that they make these to order.
