It's a small, casual place and was pretty wide open when we visited. Ordering is done through an iPad, which makes the experience as quick or as leisurely as you want it to be. The menu had a lot of interesting options, and everything looked tempting. I ended up going with the pork ramen to satisfy the craving, along with an order of gyoza. Both hit the spot and left me wanting to come back to explore more of the menu. Overall, a really easy and enjoyable experience. I've been going to Kai Ramen for at least three years and keep coming back because it's that good. The owner is super attentive and kind, and you can tell he genuinely cares about what he's making. I stick with the ramen every time. The broth is incredible, with this rich depth that you notice right away. I asked the owner why it was so good, and he told me he cooks it for over 20 hours. That dedication shows in every bite. The whole bowl is solid: tender pork, a perfectly cooked soft-boiled egg, good noodles, and fresh toppings. Everything works. Solid ramen spot and a very clean environment. This location was a self order dining so there was no rush to place your order. Although the staff were friendly, the service was a bit spotty. They would only fill your water glass under 3/4 and never paid attention to when it was time to refill. Aside from that, the ramen was decent. I had the Spicy Chicken Ramen, and Spicy Fried chicken and Crispy Chicken Gyoza as appetizers. The fried chicken wasn't spicy or traditionally fried. It only had a light crisp to it. The flavors were all there so that's why truly mattered. The Gyoza was the highlight and star of the night. I'm not sure what all was inside of it, but it tasted amazing. Close by Otis College of Design and lots of other food places nearby. There is street parking and a small lot next door for the other business but they were closed on a Sunday when we went. Very clean and spacious inside and even with only one server available, the service was friendly and efficient for our party of 4. He made great recommendations for the ramen and two bowls were enough for 2 kids and 2 adults. Really enjoyed the Bomb Ramen good flavor but even with no spice was a bit spicy for the kids. The kids ramen was regular size bowl just with less ingredients, perfect for younger kids who can be picky with food. The sushi rolls and the poke salad were all great too. Was looking for a "soup" lunch on Yelp and came across this nearby restaurant that is too easy to pass by (as, I have!) and too good to pass up (because it was REALLY good!)... Kai Ramen is located on a strip of retail on the east side of Lincoln Blvd between a shopping center with Starbucks and a corner with a gas station. It's three storefronts off of the corner. On first appearance, street parking is available, if you can get it...but if you dig a little deeper and you can walk around the corner, there's a few parking spaces located in the back alley! Being a bit later than traditional lunch time, we walked into the empty restaurant, but very shortly after, two other people came in. We were seated at a table, while the others ate at the low bar. Each table had a kiosk for ordering that made it easy to customize your ramen order. For this visit, we stuck strictly to the soup, but most of the other menu items looked absolutely incredible! We both ordered a customized version of the Chicken ramen - mine with corn (hold the broccoli and green onions - add tofu) and my companion's with pork and red ginger added. The chicken broth was thick and rich - it had a depth that I'm not use to with basic broth. The chicken pieces were dense but moist - easily fell apart. The tofu was medium hard, so it held its cube shape nicely, and did not feel like pudding while eating it. And to be honest, this was my first ramen experience, so I wasn't sure about what to expect from the egg - but it was SOOOO delicious! Just the right level of hard boiled. Overall, we both really enjoyed our soup lunch. The owner was lovely and the location was clean. I have two personal reasons for less than five stars: the first is price. Without any customization additions or beverages, soup for two for lunch would have been $40 before tip. Adding the items to our soup bumped one up to $20 and the other up to $30. Yes, decisions were knowingly made, but it would have been terrific to have lunch time or happy hour specials. My second reason is because this was my first visit. I would hope the wonderful experience to be consistent, but until my next visit, I'm just not willing to give the top marks. But again, definitely a place worth trying if you have a hankering for soup and a flexible wallet! read more

This is one of two Ramen locations on Lincoln having a standoff right near LMU. After looking at both of them for so long and wondering how they might both exist directly across from each other, I finally decided to come in and try it (I'm already familiar with the other spot from a different location). I came in during the summer, so there were significantly less people because most of the students have gone home. There was only one person taking and making all of the orders for myself, a few other customers, and food delivery. While I initially worried about how long this might take with just one person, I shouldn't have because it did not take long. He brought out the crispy, vegan spring rolls and my vegan Ramen very quickly. The spring rolls had a delicious crisp and the middle was piping hot, and I loved the dipping sauce for a little extra zip of flavor! The Ramen bowl had a lot of fun textures, and flavors that came together nicely and were a lot of fun to eat and very tasty! The host/cook/server was quick and kind! The ambiance was slightly fancier than I expected although the digital screen I had at my spot at the counter didn't work. My only complaint was that I chose to come to this restaurant because I really also wanted to try the inari sushi they have displayed on the front window but then I didn't see it on the menu. Best Ramen noodles I've ever had. They tasted really homemade and I enjoyed every bite. I got the bomb Ramen. We also ordered a spicy tuna crispy rice and it was crispy, delicious, and not too spicy. Came here after a doctor's appointment and it was completely empty. I saw after I sat down that they are "closed" between 3-5pm via Yelp but the door was open and they told me to have a seat. They must've remembered that they "close" during that time because I was given the check before I was even half way done with my food and then the server/owner, who was nice, kept sitting closer to me as if to say "hurry up". I found it rude, so that alone will keep me from returning. I ordered the red tonkotsu at medium level. Wasn't spicy really so I could've definitely ordered hot.
