The honey has wanted to stop into Kaia's since we noticed a new Tiki Bar had opened in the East Bay and this last weekend we finally did! Food wise, I ordered the garlic shrimp rice bowl and the spring rolls as well as a Painless and a Dole Whip. The spring rolls were a bit on the doughy side and the bowl could have used more veggies and less rice (two scoops was too much) but both were very tasty, although I would have loved an option for all veggies (no shrimp). The Painless was flavor perfection although pricy for a mocktail, and the Dole Whip with fruit was delicious but a heavy pour that would perhaps be too much for one person. Additionally, the service was prompt and friendly, the restaurant has two all gender restrooms, and quite a bit of outside seating. All that being said, we loved our meal and definitely plan to return! read more

Met a friend for lunch on a Tuesday in January after all the holiday hoopla to catch up. Been wanting to try this place. My friend loves Hawaii, so I thought this would be a good fit for lunch. We met at 12 and had no problem grabbing a table. The server was very attentive with menus, water, drink orders... We asked for his recommendations since it being our first time, and one was the fish tacos, another the shrimp bowl(which my friend ordered). I did have a choice for a side of potato salad, veggies(?) or fries... duh FRIES!!! The fish tacos came with a pineapple/onion and avocado sauce. (I just realized I totally missed out on the limes!) They were delicious, but I couldn't finish them so filling. Took one home to my husband as a snack. My friend really enjoyed her Shrimp and rice bowl. They had salads that sound good too. The place has the island vibe inside, and I'm sure in the summer when it's warm and they open the place up it's hoppin'! Kaia's brings a bit of much needed Aloha to the downtown Danville dining scene. It's the new, Hawaiian-fusion sit down restaurant and Tiki Bar next door to Bridges, with its own parking lot and plenty of patio seating. We had an enjoyable dinner and found the diverse menu to have something for everyone. Be sure to save room for cocktails and a dessert. Remember, it's 1/3 the calories if you split three ways. We ordered: Chicken Karaage: Japanese fried boneless chicken is a great apo, and their version os on the smaller side but very crispy and juicy. Toddler approved too. Fish Tacos with Fries: Decent dish, and you get the grilled pineapple salsa to keep up with the theme. Their fries were thin cut, crispy, and well seasoned. Miso Salmon: I found the fish a bit too over-sauced with that salty red miso and wound have liked a lighter touch. The he salmon itself was moist, and they had excellent sides of Forbidden Quinoa and mixed stir-fry veggies including thin-sliced sprouts. Kid's Teriyaki Chicken: Excellent chicken - perfectly cooked and right amount of sauce. Our 5yo son did not care for the stir-fried veggies but he loved the Togarashi Rice. Kaia's is a welcome new addition to the Danville food scene, bringing some island flavor to the area with its Hawaiian-inspired menu. It's something refreshingly different for locals who are used to the usual dining options. The food overall is decent. The chicken katsu had great flavor and crunch bordering being overcooked oil too hot, though the portion size was smaller than expected compared to other Hawaiian spots. The shrimp tacos were a hit--light, flavorful, and well-seasoned. The chicken salad was also tasty and satisfying. Don't skip the hula pie--it's generously portioned and perfect for sharing. Service is kind and welcoming, adding to the laid-back island vibe, but the food does take a while to come out--even during early lunch hours when the restaurant isn't too busy. The spam musubi was more like a thick spam sushi roll with a bit of rice around it. What a beautiful Hawaiian setting! With the weather today, it felt like I was in Hawaii sitting outside in their patio. Service was fabulous. Lucy was our server and she was training James. Both of them were professional and gracious. We asked for recommendations and Lucy gave us some great options. We ordered: Garlic Shrimp Rice Bowl - beautiful bowl of huge shrimp on top of veggies. We came literally when it was open two weeks out , not bad considering they were still working on the kinks but we had fabulous food & service from the very nice bartenders Kristen & Leila & two weeks later we had a very nice server ( Haley or Holly ) who we kept quite busy w/ yummy cocktails she was very much on top of it & she was very attentive & efficient. There was only one snafu w/ a cocktail but it was resolved . The place has a Tiki Bar vibe & is fairly new & clean . At the time we went they were only at dinner from 4-9 pm. I do believe they are currently open for lunch & dinner. We arrived at 4 both times because this little Tiki Bar gets full fast . They all did a phenomenal job & we will definitely be back . I hated the last few years of The Vine due to consistently atrocious service, and was excited to see it replaced with a tiki bar. The owner is the same- but I was optimistic that the business model may have been corrected (no). Kaia's is kitsch, but it's endearing and the retro Hawaiian theme is not like anything else you'd find in downtown Danville. We sat at the bar and were greeted, given waters.... And then the staff forgot about us for over 15 minutes. I was getting PTSD from my experiences at The Vine, but wanted to give Kaia's a shot. Eventually I was able to flag someone down and place our order- the drinks took another 10 minutes to arrive. For a mild weekday, this was looking like very rough turnaround time for service in such a well staffed restaurant. We ordered the sampler platter, and it isn't worth a reorder. Many of the items were lukewarm or bland, and for the price tag it wasn't worth the money spent. My observation- like The Vine, service is disorganized and there seems to be consistent breakdowns in zoning/communication that quickly cause service issues. With the kitschy theme, it feels that the customer experience is supposed to be created by the environment instead of the quality of the service... when you're spending $20 for a drink, I don't think that business model pans out. When you walk into Kaia's, it feels like you've been transported to a mini Hawaiian Mecca in the middle of downtown Danville. We arrived at an odd hour so we only had to wait like 20 minutes for our party to be seated which was great because the first time that we tried to come in without reservations there was a two hour wait. Heads up, they are a new restaurant so be prepared because The service is super slow. The Maui salad was a little bland. The salad dressing tasted like it was paying homage to Brianna's poppyseed dressing, which would've been great if it wasn't too sweet. The sampler platter was too greasy. I didn't know a fancy Loco Moco could exist, but it does here and they pull it off so well, it's delicious and has a bit of ritzyness without abandoning the spirit of the Loco Moco. 1 Star (Would Be 0 if Possible) I visited on November 1, 2025, around 1:00 PM for a late lunch. The restaurant was not busy, with about 15 guests dining, but the service was extremely slow. I ordered the loco moco and waited over an hour for my food to arrive. I immediately cleared my bill as well because I didn't not want to wait another eternity just to leave. During my visit, I noticed other guests also waiting a long time for their food. One table mentioned waiting nearly 20 minutes for syrup, and unfortunately, the manager did not offer an apology. I overheard the manager making unprofessional remarks about guests behind their back near the kitchen area, which was disappointing to witness. My server was doing his best under difficult circumstances. I saw him advocate for a guest with a food allergy, but the kitchen still got the order wrong multiple times. It was clear the staff were struggling due to poor management and lack of coordination. Not a good sign seeing multiple dishes get sent back and/or delivering wrong orders. Overall, it was an uncomfortable dining experience. The food, once it finally arrived, could not make up for the long wait and unprofessional atmosphere. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves operations for both the staff and future customers. read more

My hubby and I were so excited for a Hawaiian kitchen and tiki bar to open in Danville! We frequently go to strong water in Anaheim, which is always amazing. Tiki drinks are some of my favorites so we had a somewhat high bar. Pros: - everything we had tasted really good. All the food and all the drinks - drink menu had a good variety and they are going to be adding more soon. - service was good, everyone was very friendly - restaurant is very cute - love how family friendly it is. Nice to be able to take our kids and enjoy a family night out while still getting good food and drinks - kids meals come with dole whip which the kids loved - drinks were solid. Hardest part of tiki drinks is potentially being too much like fruit juice. These were not like that. Cons: - kids teriyaki grilled chicken. while my husband and I loved the dish, it is too sophisticated for a child. The veggies were not simple enough for kids and there was no sauce, we had to ask for a side of teriyaki sauce. - my medium burger was more like medium rare. We went on 11/2 which was a beautiful warm Sunday day around 1pm We checked yelp pics and it appeared they had a lovely outdoor patio which I was eager to enjoy. The fun Hawaiian music played softly in the back ground, I was so excited for this place! Both inside and out are set up nicely to have a good time. BUT, the food was very disappointing and no where near good enough to have us return. 1 apperizer, 2 plate lunches = $70 including the 20% tip for subpar service...didn't even order drinks, waters only, yikes! We were seated right away at a table outside . The prestacked water glasses at our and other tables looked to be used/poorly washed. The waiter came to our table to fill the glasses with water, i had to stop him as i was not going to drink from it. He went to grab another glass from the tabe next to us and I commented that all the tables had the same dingy sticky look to them. He did go iinside to try to find us clean glasses which I appericated but, all the other table were left with those same dirty glasses for other customers use. APPETIZER: We ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer, it came with a pineapple coleslaw and a warery spicy dipping sauce which did not have a good flavor, it didn't seem to pair well with coconut shrimp. Something more traditional like the thicker sweet and spicy sauce you usually get with coconut shrimp would have been more appropriate. The shrimp themselves, qty of 5 were good. LUNCH: I ordered the Plate Lunch. I was craving, teriyaki chicken but it was not listed as one of the available protein options oddly but, they do offer it for other lunch dishes. I asked if I could order it with the plate lunch plate and our waiter said yes. I inquired about the Hawaiian potato salad as one of the sides you get as Ive never heard or seen a Hawaiian restaurant having potato salad. I asked, "Is this really just Mac salad"? He responded, "Yes". I was thinking this simply had to be a play on words, no way a Hawaiian restaurant serves potato and not macaroni salad with a plate lunch. I was wrong and so was he. Our food arrived fairly quickly. I got a dry, chewy, cold and tasteless chicken breast with some teriyaki sauce on it with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of warm potato salad (eewwww). My husband ordered chicken katsu, it was also a chicken breast, was a bit more tender than mine but lacked any flavor at all. He ordered his with the sautéed veggies which were drenched in another watery sauce and veggies we soggy/way over cooked. We have zero desire to return. Food was horrible and waiter barley checked on us. I find L&L or Ohana BBQ to be 100% more desirable and closer to a Hawaiian style food tasting type of restaurant. This place is too over priced for tasteless, dry, chewy and non authentic Hawaiian food that didn't even serve mac salad with the plate lunch (nor was it on the menu to order as a side). Really pretty and tropical patio to sit out on a hot day. My aunt is hypoglycemic and really needed to get food in her system. She told our nice waiter this and once we ordered, the appetizer came out in like 2 minutes. I know it's not the restaurant's responsibility but he really did offer good customer service. Superb in one word. Don't say that often. Bonus to score a spot in their parking lot! Down to business as the outdoor seating was amazing. They are chill and not once did our group feel rushed. Service was outstanding (don't write that often). Menu was hard to choose. But hands down one of the best salmon dishes I've had in years with the quinoa (not fond of it but their version is fantastic). You will want to return as the selections are tantalizing. We keep coming back to Kaia's, and it has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants. It reminds me of Islands in Southern California, but with better food and higher quality. Everything we've ordered has been consistently good, especially the Loco Moco. In fact, it might even be better than some of the versions I've had in Hawaii. The burgers are juicy, the tacos are excellent, and every meal has been a great experience. We also love the tropical island atmosphere. It's casual, fun, and feels like a mini getaway without leaving town. So far we've only been for dinner, but we're looking forward to bringing the family back to try their brunch menu. My family and I went to KAIA's on a Thursday night and happened to get there right before happy hour -- perfect timing! We had such a lovely experience from start to finish. I ordered the Saturn cocktail, a gin-based drink, and asked for it not to be too sweet. It came out perfectly balanced -- tart, refreshing, and with just the right punch. I'd definitely order it again. For appetizers, we shared the coconut shrimp, which was absolutely amazing -- crispy, flavorful, and a definite 5/5. I had the fresh fish tacos, made with small cubes of grilled fish. The coleslaw and sauce complemented the fish really well. Overall, a solid 4.5/5 for flavor and freshness. My husband ordered the Katsu chicken plate, which is a larger portion than the happy hour version. He really enjoyed it, though mentioned it was a touch on the crunchy side -- still a great dish and a 4/5 overall. Our daughter had the kids' chicken teriyaki plate, and she loved it! The chicken was nicely marinated and tender, and the sautéed veggies were a great touch -- 5/5 from her. To top it off, the kids' meal comes with a Dole Whip cone for dessert -- she chose strawberry and gave it another 5/5. The ambience is exactly what you'd expect from a Hawaiian tiki-style restaurant -- fun, tropical, and full of aloha vibes. First, YUM! My sister and I came here since we were having Hawaiian food cravings. The food was really good. Some of the recipes were family recipes so it was a nice change of the typical Hawaiian fare you would normally come across. Our server Charlotte was so sweet and such a fun personality! So we have only tried Kaia's Teriyaki chicken with steamed rice & Hawaiian potato salad Lunch plate. So this review is for only that dish. For the life of me I just don't understand why places here on the mainland cannot make authentic Hawaiian BBQ. Even the Japanese places can't get it right out here. I mean I don't want some dry piece of chicken breast with some sauce squirted on it. You need to use chicken thighs, and you need to marinate it for a few hours. I just don't get it. The rice was ok but I prefer sushi grade rice. The Hawaiian Potato salad was pretty good but true authentic has eggs in it too, this did not. We were seated immediately and since it was a nice day, we opted to sit outside on their patio. It was a really beautiful space and I can see how this would be a great hangout with friends on a warm summer night. What we ordered: - Kalua pork hash ($17): it was okay to me. I expected more potato, but instead there was more cabbage than I thought there'd be. The kalua pork was also not as flavorful as I hoped. - hamburger loco moco ($19): I liked this one more. The gravy was pretty good and it was a sizable portion. Lots of rice. - Painless ($10): a solid N.A. version of a painkiller Overall a very cool new restaurant to enjoy some island faves in Danville. Well, on Father's Day I thought this will be the day to surprise the hubz and our girls. I wish we went somewhere else. We were seated in the corner of the restaurant and sure enough we were forgotten for quite awhile twice. The server was very inattentive to our table. My co worker told me that since I'm from Hawai'i that I might not like many items on the menu compared to how it's really done Hawaiian style. I still kept an open mind with Kaia's; but, I should have taken her "heads up". The poke chips was way below average. It was six taro chips with three to four (on a couple) extremely tiny pieces of ahi on it. I was hoping the poke would be "broke da mouth". It tasted very bland and the color was off too. I could immediately tell it wasn't fresh. I was hoping that their loco moco would be okay. I wasn't expecting great at this point. Uhhh, I make way better at home. The hamburger was not homemade ie freshly made. It was tough, thin, and chewy. I gave my husband a large piece for his opinion. I wanted to be sure I wasn't being biased (which I know I wasn't; but, know how these reviewers can seem especially to those who really haven't had true local cuisine). He only tried a little and said "Nope. Yours is way better." He ordered the kalbi and that was probably the best dish we had on our table. My oldest daughter's burger was dry and my youngest daughter barely touched her pancakes and she loves pancakes. We decided to not order the hula pie and my husband said let's get ice cream at Meadowlark for dessert instead. My husband couldn't understand the "raving reviews"; but, I really was disappointed. Kaia's is a Hawaiian food inspired restaurant. You need to keep in mind that Kaia's dishes are Hawaiian based with an American fusion twist. The service was very good. Our server Diego was friendly and helpful. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance and decor is Hawaiian, with local music playing throughout. Coconut shrimp - 3/5 The breading had a very hard crunch, and the coconut flavor was faint. The shrimp was unfortunately hard. The results most likely due to being overcooked. That being said, the coconut shrimp was not perfect, but still tasted ok. Garlic shrimp Rice Bowl - 4/5 If you are expecting this dish to be like the Shrimp plate you got at Giovanni's Shrimp Truck in Kahuku on Oahu, do not order this selection. Kaia's garlic shrimp is different. This dish is Kaia's version of "garlic shrimp". It consists of shrimp, coated in karaage flour that has seasonings like soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and spices. Then deep fried placed over a bed of rice with veggies such as bell peppers, mushroom, carrots, cilantro, and asparagus bits. Kaia's iteration isn't bad, but just different. Worth a try, but don't expect Giovanni's version. Ahi Poke Bowl - 3.5/5 Don't expect a poke bowl where everything is mixed together with your choice of rice, or greens. Kaia's version is the ahi is cut into very small pieces, unlike what you would expect when you purchase a poke bowl where the fish is cut into larger cubes. The ahi poke could have added more poke sauce to kick the flavor up a notch or two. I did taste the sauce, but it was lighter than I would have expected. There was an abundant amount of edamame, pineapple-tomato salsa, avocado, and a single scoop of rice with Furikaki sprinkled on top. All arranged separately, NOT mixed together. The presentation was excellent. Again, Kaia's version of poke bowl with an American fusion twist. Hula pie - 4/5 We were looking forward to having Hula Pie for dessert. The Duke's hula pie in Hawaii is the standard to compare with. So a fair comparison to Duke's versions is fair since Kaia's version has the same name. Kaia's version Hula pie, is NOT as large as Duke's. Kaia's version is 2/3 size of Duke's version. Kaia's version uses vanilla ice cream with chocolate swirls. Duke's version uses Mac nut ice cream. Kaia's version has bits of Mac nut and coconut flakes sprinkled over the whipped cream, with chocolate syrup drizzled over the top and over the vanilla ice cream on to the plate. I am not sure of what type of cookie Kaia's uses for their crust, but it is not the chocolate Oreo-like cookie that Duke's uses. That being said, the Kaia's cookie crust was not bad, just different. All in all, Kaia's version of Hula Pie wasn't bad. There is enough to share for two. Duke's hula pie can be shared by 2-4 people. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Kaia's. The service was good, and Kaia's version of the Hawaiian local dishes with an American fusion was good. Just keep in mind that Kaia's version is a their version of Hawaiian local dishes with an American fusion twist. With some slight adjustments, Kaia's version of Hawaiian local dishes could satisfy the locals from Hawaii. Give Kaia's try, and let them know how you feel about their American fusion twist on Hawaiian local foods. read more

This was our second visit in 2 weeks and it was a much better experience. Service was prompt and efficient. We ate inside this time and the decor and vibe were very appealing. The pork sandwich was outstanding and highly recommended. Poke bowl and nachos were really good. The drinks took a little bit of time since the restaurant was packed but the food came out very fast. We added our name to the waitlist with a quoted 2-hour wait time. About 90 minutes later, we received a text that our table was ready. Since we had already eaten dinner elsewhere during the wait, we decided to come back just for drinks. The experience was mixed - two of our cocktails were well-made, while the other two missed the mark. Despite this, the restaurant was full still so they're doing plenty right. Tried again. Drinks were amazing and that's about where it stopped. I had the Kimos Bowl, and most of the steak was fat - jello like fat. Completely inedible. Server didn't seem to care. On of the best Hawaiian Tiki Bars in the Bay Area... the new spot in Danville is worth the drive and stop. Everything was outstanding and if your into the tiki vibe you will not be disappointed. It's like walking into an old sailor bar with the amazing service and food this is a go to spot for sure. read more

Our first time here. Small menu, my wife had the poke nachos, which was 5 taro chips with a bit of poke on them. Not worth $18!! I asked, since they have Spam on the menu, if I could get Spam loco moco. I was told NO. Used to be the waiters liked to ask the chefs if they could alter a dish?? I instead got the Spam musubi. It was surprisingly good! Listed under apitizers it was a meal for me! My sister had the Kahlúa pork nachos, she said there was plenty of meat. read more

Excellent atmosphere, great food and awesome cocktails. Danville needed a decent Tiki style restaurant/bar and they have really done a great job with it. Mai Tai was spot on awesome! Locomoco was pretty darn authentic too! Can't wait to try it out again. read more

I wanted to try a place I had my eye on for a while, Kaia's Island Kitchen on Hartz Avenue. I had the Chicken Katsu Plate Lunch and a Maui Blonde Lager. The chicken was dry, and the potato / mac salad had more potato than mac in it along with spaghetti (a first for me, never saw that in the islands). It could have been better seasoned as well. Good Hawaiian vibe, but the music was kind of loud, and the food was kind of meh. Oh well. Service was good, and I can see this place hopping in the evening at their Tiki bar. read more
