So. Damn. Good. The chicken broth is to die for. Bursting with flavor & a velvety texture. I haven't had ramen that I actually enjoyed until here. Their ramen noodles are quality noodles, their toppings are fresh and delicious. If ordering chicken, make sure it isn't burned or overcooked- it's happened before & that texture isn't enjoyable in ramen, but they have no problem revising. Last minute decision to drop by here after picking up our AX badges and we had to return one of our roomies back to his house before the big con weekend. Of course we had to get Japanese food. I was okay with the other location, but since many things were going to close soon (weekday evening), we decided to stop by. Even for a weekday night, restaurant was decently busy with a good number of customers at the tables and at the bar counter area. Service was a bit slower because of this and we reached the last call of the night, but overall it was decent. We got the: 1) Hai Five Gyoza: -5 pieces of their original pork fried dumplings. -It's okay. Standard gyoza dumplings you can get anywhere. Really wish they did the pan sear that other Japanese places do and you get that extra crispy flaky skin that comes with it, but alas. Some of the edges where the gyoza was folded was a bit tougher to chew. I'd put it on the same par as gyoza you may pay a bit too much for at festival. 2) Kotsu Flame: -It does have a kick at the start and a slow burn throughout eating the bowl of ramen, which is a plus since there's a lot of ramen places where you can order it spicy and it is barely even that. -You choice your protein topping and I got their pork chashu. Decent, smaller slice of chashu (you only get 1 unless you order more). Wish there was a tad more meat, but maybe I'm just spoiled by Ramen Nagi if anything. -Other toppings include soft boiled egg, diced green onion, ground pork, black garlic oil. -It's a thicker much heavier, oilier ramen with thin noodles. Wow!! I'm still full and I tried this place weeks ago!! On a cold moist day the vibe was absolutely a warm bowl of ramen. A quick search we found Kotsu and could have been happier. When we got in it was slow only a couple or two. By the time we left 75 percent of the space was full. This is a walk up and order then seat yourself type place. I really wanted to love this place, but almost everything that could go wrong with a carry-out order did. I placed my order online, and it took nearly an hour to be ready. When I finally sat down to eat, I opened the container and was greeted by a clump of mushy, fused-together noodles. Not exactly a great start. To make things worse, I wasn't given chopsticks for my ramen--just a flimsy plastic fork that actually broke mid-bite. I'm a big fan of ramen, and this was the first time I've ever had to eat it with a fork. Not exactly a milestone I was hoping to hit. As for napkins, they included a couple of those rough, brown, tri-fold paper towels you usually grab in a public restroom. It really added a certain... atmosphere to the whole experience. The food itself wasn't terrible--I've definitely had better, but it wasn't the main issue. This is our usual go-to delivery spot for ramen in the area. The ramen itself is very good but the new sushi options have much to be desired. I ordered a side of shrimp tempura and california roll along with our ramen orders. The shrimp tempure was missing from the order which Grubhub refunded but the california roll had a very mayo heavy crab salad and the hardest avocado I've ever tried to eat. I ordered the CA roll with no cucumber but the avocado inside was so hard and unripe I literally thought they forgot the no cucumber note. A chopstick couldn't puncture the avocado slices and I couldn't get a bite through them. The ramen is great, highly recommend adding a side of tofu to any order but avoid the sushi altogether. Sure there's some level of quality decline in ordering for delivery but if you can't do a CA roll right that's pretty bad. read more

The egg was soft with a hint sweetness. The chicken karrage was delicious, crispy and had paird nice with the Lemmon and brown sauce that comes with it. The hai five gyoza was temp hot so be careful let them cool down a Lil but the flavor was nice with a hint of garlic well done. The OG tori was good too the chicken was nicely charred around the edges and delicious along with the broth and everything that comes in it. Overall the food, service and ambiance were great. I have been going here prior to management change. History: Kotsu ramen had great quality under prior management with delicious rich broth, tender pork and noodles, and a good quantity of food. As time progressed, the food quality and service dipped and kept dropping until it's closure. So now I have returned when it came under new management. The interior has been redecorated slightly retaining the bright interior but with a slightly more stylized design. There's a few TV screens up listing pictures from their Instagram but the ambience is generally the same. Service was okay, you order at the counter as usual and wait for the food at your table. There was a wait but not terribly bad. The food has returned to quality. The broth was silky and rich with a nice kick from the flame seasoning. The noodles were tender with a nice snap. The pork is slightly worst than peak, but still tender and flavorful. This is the opportune ramen restaurant in the area in my opinion and worth a visit if you never experienced Kotsu ramen before. read more

Terrible customer service. We arrived hungry and were seated while waiting for our food. Shortly after, a party of 12 arrived behind us. As we were sitting and waiting, Alma approached us and asked if we could move to the bar because she needed to accommodate the larger party that had just arrived after us. After being forced to move, we decided we no longer wanted to eat there and asked for a refund. When I requested the refund, she accidentally charged my card a second time instead of refunding it. When I approached her to correct the mistake, she tried to make me wait until after the party of 12 placed their order before helping me. Another couple next to us in the middle of their dinner were also asked to move to the bar in order to seat the party of 12! Awful! Completely unacceptable.
