Legit. I came in for lunch and had the chirashi bowl. Comes with miso soup and salad, which were both delicious and authentic. The chirashi bowl looks a little small, but I was wrong. Plenty of high quality tuna, yellowtail, whitefish, salmon. Also has shrimp, surf clam, tamago, and masago. Rice seasoned perfectly with a slightly sweet, salty and vinegary taste , as sushi rice should be. There seemed to be a catered lunch going on and the proprietress gave me a free watermelon agar dessert. This is an authentic and reasonably priced sushi restaurant. Our favorite local sushi restaurant, we've been coming here since it was formerly Hayato Sushi. The new owner and head chef, Joel, is always so friendly and welcoming! The worst: Pre-ordering was their suggestion, so I followed their advice and placed my order 24 hours in advance for a 5:30 PM pickup. I arrived right on time, only to find they hadn't even started it. To make matters worse, they had already sold out of the items I asked them to hold. This is 100% their miss. I've now been waiting over 45 minutes, with no water offered and no sense of urgency. What's the point of pre-ordering -- especially at their recommendation -- if they can't manage it? The worst service I've ever received. We came at 6:15 and were sat and we ordered food right away. They were nice at first but they kept asking us if we were still waiting for food and we were. The people around us all seemed to get their food just fine, we got our pieces one little piece at a time It took an hour and 15 minutes to get 8 pieces of sushi and 2 carpaccio and the second time the carpaccio came different, first time with lemon, second time without, no consistency. Then I finally just cancelled the last order and the guy came and dropped it off and I said "I just cancelled it" he immediately grabbed it and just said "I'll take it off" No apologies for their terrible service, no explanation, nothing. One of our favorite sushi restaurants! We've eaten at this restaurant three times now, and never had a bad meal. I will describe our first time which was omakase at the sushi bar. Below are just some of what we were served. -Assorted fresh sushi of the day, including uni and toro -Toro hand-roll, so delicious -Salmon belly with special sauce, melt in your mouth good -Squid with salmon roe and cucumber and seaweed salad -Octopus with lemon The fish was super fresh and absolutely delicious. We enjoyed everything that was served to us, which doesn't happen often, even in restaurants with Michelin stars. The restaurant itself is small and ordinary, and located the the corner of a non-descript strip mall. Service was so-so during all three visits, and on the second and third visits, we waited a long time (more than half hour) before getting any food. The reason for 5 stars is purely for the good food. I'm so happy that FINALLY we have found our sushi spot. My wife and I have been searching for our go to sushi restaurant for quite a while now without much success, and typically can only find spots like this closer to LA. All of the places around here tend to have mid level quality fish and poor execution that they try to cover up with insanely large menus littered with elaborate and ridiculous roll combinations. Sometimes we will find a place that has one or two things on their menu that we like, but most of the time we are left disappointed. Well I'm happy to say that those days are over now that we found Kisetsu! This place is a gem. For true sushi lovers. Simple menu with wonderful fish quality and beautiful execution. No bells and whistles, no ridiculous rolls, just absolutely wonderful sushi. Another bonus for me is that they also have Sea Bream, my favorite fish, which no one around here seems to have on their menu. We just finished our dinner that we ordered to go and we were so impressed that I had to write this review right after we finished. I never EVER write reviews, but I had to for this place. The yellowtail roll was divine and simple and clean. The spicy tuna (typically my sushi litmus test) was wonderful and just spicy enough. The Bluefin Tuna, Salmon, and Sea Bream sushi were cut wonderfully and absolutely delightful. The Negi Toro hand roll however was the star of the show, just fantastic, buttery and melted in my mouth. The sushi was not bad, with large pieces of fish. My friend didn't enjoy her katsu-don as much, but the portion was quite big and she had leftovers, which was nice. As other have mentioned, service and ambiance left a little to be desired - when we were given place settings, one of our napkins was visibly used and our server took our orders standing behind a divider (weird). What a great find! A friend invited me for dinner and highly recommended this place, then I went back with my husband one week later! I'm not a raw fish person (I know, I know), so the first time I went for a bento with grilled salmon and California roll and it was good. Even the side salad and dressing was amazing. The service was exceptional. Fun and friendly staff who were attentive yet gave you privacy to enjoy a meal uninterrupted. One piece of uni nigiri for $14 is high even for a much nicer ambiance. Yellowtail was mid with stringy tendon in my piece. Chicken teriyaki and shishamo were super dry and overcooked. Their website advertised "$3 off Salmon Collar" but they didn't honor it saying, "Oh we forgot to update the website." Won't be back. There are much better options. read more

It's not the best sushi we've ever had, but the fish is pretty fresh and they're very generous with the cuts. There were some pieces that I was not a fan of ( the salmon felt very off & personal preference for the Saba over the aji) but now that we know, we'll probably just order the things that we know we like!
