On the day of my event, Joy and her assistant, Ling, paid attention to little details and checked in with me regularly to ensure a memorable experience. So delicious!! We ordered takeout online and our food was ready by the time my husband picked it up. He told me he was impressed with how clean the restaurant is, and how pleasant the staff was. I have been wanting to try this place. They are geared towards Sichuan cuisine so their spicy dishes are good. This time, I came here with my mom and we chose stir fried cabbage ($12.95), stir fried green beans ($12.95), Scallion beef ($16.95) and Chef's fried rice ($13.95). The vegetables dishes were seasoned nicely and not overly salty. The scallion beef was tender. The fried rice was good. My mom wanted to try their hot and sour soup ($6.95) and it was not good, it did not taste like hot and sour soup. The staff was nice and attentive and the place is nicely decorated. What a pleasant surprise! Pretty legit Chinese food in Claremont?? Ambiance: very classy, clean, matching plates and silverware. Not too busy for Friday lunch, quick and kind service. Food: We got dry pot and eggplants to share for 2. Left us feeling pretty full with some left overs. Pricing was very fair for today's inflation! I'm bummed to write this review. I really wanted to like this place. The waitress was lovely, the restaurant clean and attractive. But, honestly, the food was just not good. The egg drop & hot & sour soup tasted terrible. One spoonful and we were done. The chef's special fried rice with sausage had a flavor I hope to never have again. Yum yum Sichuan style Chinese food! A hidden jewel in Claremont. I came here today to try out their daily buffet (11am-2pm). All dishes were excellent. Home style cooking with very fresh ingredients. Cold garlic cucumber salad was chilled with balanced garlic sauce, cucumber was special pressed and marinated to ensure it's crisp and crunchiness. Egg plant dish was tender and not oily. Salt and pepper shrimp was very crunchy and fresh; Kung Pao chicken was one of the best I tasted. The sweet and sourness developed from very traditional Chengdu style cooking; I can taste the special vinegar used in the cooking. The popcorn chicken was a combination of 10 two in Taiwanese style with fresh quantity meat. Black and pepper beef and green bell pepper stirfry it was special because you can taste each ingredients' freshness, and yet they came together with unique very pepper taste. I think this is something with people from Chengdu can appreciate! The tomato and egg stir fry was also delicious! They also have the regular fried rice, chow mein, dumplings, and eggrolls. I honestly don't know where all the good reviews are coming from. If anything, the emptiness of the restaurant speaks for itself when it comes to the quality of the food. When we pulled up to pick up our order, the Chinese restaurant next door was packed, while Ginkgo was completely empty--red flag right there. The takeout packaging looked nice, but the lids didn't seal properly, and the sauce spilled everywhere. We tried two dishes, including the sweet and sour ribs that were recommended on Uber Eats. It was by far the worst dish I've ever had at a Chinese restaurant. The ribs were cold, the sauce had a strange color, and the meat was tough, dry, and lacked any real substance--like it was leftover from the night before. The sliced beef and tripe dish wasn't much better--only a few pieces of beef and tripe and mostly scallions. The sauce had an odd taste as well. Totally disappointing. I'm not even comparing this place to SGV restaurants. This was just a complete letdown from start to finish. read more

I've only ever ordered take-out, so I can't attest to their service besides the few phone calls I had. They pride themselves for making authentic Chinese food, and they're pretty good. The first time I had their Kung Pao chicken and the second time, I ordered their sweet and sour pork and sweet and sour ribs (they're sweet and sour in English but actually are different flavors). Overall, I feel like they didn't really add a lot of meat -- they're just super small pieces of meat, so I couldn't really get the satisfaction of chewing into the meat. I also feel like they emphasized a bit too heavily on the sweet for both of their sweet and sour dishes. I think I will come back again, especially when I'm craving Chinese food, but probably won't order any of their sweet and sour dishes. read more

Service was good and very friendly. Restaurant was clean, restrooms very well maintained, furnished, and clean. We wanted to try their selection for the buffet around lunchtime. The selection changes per their discretion daily. We enjoyed the food, but it would be nice if they could print and label each of the dishes, Including allergens and ingredients for the day, as last weeks vegetarian dish can have meat in it the next week. Nothing is labeled, not even the name of the dish, so you have to open the warming plate for each dish to check. If they could label the dishes and keep it more consistent day to day, I'd give a higher recommendation. read more

This place is good. Dining area is spacious, clean, and has the "new" feel to it. Kid friendly as they were able to provide my kids plastic plate ware. I highly recommend the spicy hot pot - it's like a pot of gold - goodness in every bite! My kids loved the orange chicken. The cold noodles was refreshing with a good kick to it! When I heard they had a buffet for $14.99 plus a 10% discount this past weekend. I jumped at the opportunity to visit the buffet was nothing fancy they had the basics. Everything was self serve including water. The egg drop soup was delicious and I enjoyed the tawainese chicken as well as the fried wontons and eggrolls. The chow mein and fried rice were good too as well as the eggplant and mapo tofu. But they were slow restocking food. Plates were not cleared from the table at all. First, the decor--it is simple, with an understated elegance that was welcoming and relaxing, using tones of gray and brown. It seems like considerable thought was given to the design. Both tables and booths are available. The chairs we sat in were roomy and comfortable with flat wooden armrests that made the easy to maneuver. The server who attended us was gracious and helpful. She brought a carafe of chilled water and glasses right away, and a basket of light-as-air shrimp crisps, which were addicting and delicious. She answered our questions clearly and helped us make good choices. What a kind, welcoming demeanor she has! There were cloth napkins at each place setting the each enclosed a set of "Gingko"-labeled chopsticks and long-handled gold-colored fork and spoon. This restaurant really pays attention to details. Our food order was simple: one noodles with vegetables, and a lunch special kungpao chicken, which included rice and egg roll. Our orders came quickly and were delicious and well-prepared. We also ordered the orange chicken and the mapo tofu. Orange chicken had yummy orange peels and the mapo tofu had a wonderful flavor profile. Not too spicy but definitely flavorful. Best mapo tofu around Claremont. Service is quick and attentive. There is a lot of space in the restaurant and it's been redone since taking over from the old Darvish restaurant that used to be here. We've tried their food --on and off-- since they opened...alas, no matter what we've ordered, food consistently bland and overcooked.

Was trying to go to the restaurant next door and so my friend and I decided to stop by here since it was new and had just opened the week before. I was immediately impressed by the table setting and the decoration choices of the restaurant owner in trying to set the right tone and atmosphere for the restaurant. The waitress sold us on trying the dumplings even though we don't eat spicy food, since she claimed they were up till midnight in making it all from scratch. The effort definitely showed in the flavor and texture (and they weren't too spicy, just at the limit of what I can enjoy and still taste all the flavors of the dish. We also ordered the moo goo gai pan to have something light. The dish was tasty, although perhaps the flavors were a bit too subtle. I really did enjoy the tomato and egg dish. I haven't had this in a restaurant in a while and was glad they had it. Overall the experience was nice and I enjoyed the food and will come back. Why the 4 starts? I would have appreciated a few cold dishes for hot days and more dishes that took advantage of seasonal ingredients a bit more if they're going through all the effort that they are clearly making. This is our third time back in two weeks. I think about the spicy wonton soup a lot and I am enjoying it right now. The chef cooks broccoli and carrots to perfection. The seafood plate is generous with shrimp, scallops and a wonderful rare seaweed. The chef and his beautiful wife have brought fine dining to Claremont. Go! People! Eat this food! I don't know when God smiled on Claremont and sent us delicious, authentic, fresh Chinese food, but I'm so glad that it's happening. Ginkgo is definitely a gem, the mala beef and tripe (a chilled dish) was a wild ride, spicy as heck and gave me the face-tingles. The ginger'ey eggplant was an absolute hit, I'll be back for that dish alone. This is about 75% more authentic a Chinese restaurant than the rest of the city, so this wouldn't be your ideal spot for NYC-style to-go grub.The people who were running the restaurant were so kind, it was just a home run all around. Second day of business! Ordered to-go. Staff was polite and provided good description of the dishes. They also have LUNCH SPECIALS, which are fairly reasonable $13. Got the minced chicken with preserved veggies and kung pao chicken. The minced chicken was medium spicy with a lot of bell peppers, but it was punchy in flavor. Kung pao in comparison was actually quite subtle but good rich flavor. Ironically Kung pao might be the milder of all the dishes on the menu. They have lots of numbing spice dishes, which is great for people who like floral and aromatic spice. read more
