If you're eating here, the Dan Dan Noodles are quite tasty. When the server approached us, he encouraged us to order with the QR code. I have to be real...I don't love this type of set-up. I don't mind ordering in person at the counter or even on a screen kiosk (although ordering from a person is definitely the most preferred) but the QR code situation is my least favorite. My mom and brother wanted to treat me out to lunch for my birthday. My mom also wanted to try this spot because it's new. Parking: They're located in Downtown Claremont. There's free street parking and a free parking structure. Usually during the weekends, it's harder to find a parking spot. Even during the week day, it was somewhat busy. If you're ordering to-go, then you'd order from the register. If you're dining, then choose an open table. I forgot our server's name, but she was courteous. She checked on us a couple times. We were directed to scan the QR code and place our orders through the system. Throughput was also quick after ordering. Foods: 1) Dan Dan Noodles - I ordered this dish. Their version of dan dan noodles is different compared to other dan dan noodles I've had. I'm used to peanut-buttery sauce, some spice, and less pork. Their version contains a generous amount of ground pork, couple pieces of broccoli and carrots, and egg. The noodles were thick and cooked well. Idk what exactly was in the sauce, but I thought it was okay. 2) Mini Soup Bun - My mom ordered this. The soup buns came out steaming. Careful when you bite into it because the soup will spill out lol. There was pork inside. It was cooked well, and the soup was good. 3) Scallion Pancake - My brother ordered this for the table. Can't go wrong with a classic Chinese appetizer. It simply contains flour and green onions. These were delicious. 4) Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup - My brother also ordered this. It contains beef, flour, and broccoli. My brother really enjoyed this. The soup looks intimidating, but it isn't spicy at all. The noodles were also thick and cooked well. The beef slices tasted as expected. 5) Beef Roll Pancake - My mom ordered this for the table. I prefer the outside to be a bit more crispy with a golden brown finish. The filling was good though. Great spot with a variety of noodle and fried rice dishes. Went with two Latin friends who eat everything I introduce. We ordered fried rice, two noodle dishes, cucumber salad, and fried tofu to share. They loved everything but. . . It wasn't spicy enough! My friend even asked for chili oil but the oil tasted just like the spice on the noodle dish she added it to. I know Claremont has a variety of ethnicities, especially being a college town. The ambience inside is very casual, really good for lunch breaks, family outings, and date night. We ordered so much food with my family. Xiao long bao - I never seen it comes with odd numbers for Xiao long bao. The meat seasoning wasn't enough and the dough was thick for Xiao long bao. Also, I could taste the flour. Noodology - A Delicious Surprise in Claremont Village Square Robin and I headed over to the Claremont Village Square (west of Indian Hill and North of First Street) with visions of gazpacho dancing in our heads, ready to settle in at Le Pain Quotidien. But as luck would have it, their kitchen was backed up for about 30 minutes. So, we wandered, looked around the plaza, and noticed a brand-new addition - Noodology, which had literally just opened the day before. We walked in and were immediately greeted with warmth and seated right away. As we skimmed the menu, we mentioned to our server that we were thinking about the mini soup buns (xiaolongbao). Without missing a beat, she smiled and said she'd get those started first since they take time - a tiny detail that already felt thoughtful and appreciated. We also ordered the scallion pancake and lemonade. The lemonade was bubbly, lightly sparkling and refreshing without being overly sweet. Now, this was our first scallion pancake experience. (We've heard Food Network hosts talk about them for years.) And wow -- crispy, golden edges with a soft, beautifully layered center. Lightly oniony, comforting, and even better when dipped in the sauce that came with the soup buns. And those mini soup buns, yum. Delicate, thin wrappers holding seasoned pork and a warm, savory broth that somehow tastes like comfort, craft, and joy all at once. The black vinegar and ginger dipping sauce added just the right zing. We savored every bite. The space itself is clean, bright, and welcoming -- modern without trying too hard. Let me give you a real review, not some lame 1-star complaint on service -- which wasn't even bad btw. O.m.g. the food is a 10/10. Imagine having your Taiwanese grandma in the kitchen making you the homiest, heartiest, tastiest Taiwanese noodle or rice dish, for such a realistic price, and in more than enough portions. Noodology is a recently opened restaurant in the village (where I like pie used to be) that captures many authentic Taiwanese and other Chinese cuisine. Here is my review as a Taiwanese person (potential bias). Ambiance: the restaurant was very clean, modern, and had a discernable aesthetic of being a trendy Asian food spot situated square in the Claremont village. The tables, chairs, decor, and general interior /exterior were very clean and both my SO and I were comfortable. Tableware is semi-self serve, servers will bring you forks and chopsticks (spoon depends on your dish) as well as napkin in a cup, which you can place on the table on your own. The restaurant is brightly lit, and decently quiet as it's off the street/facing the interior square. Service was fantastic! Granted we were the only ones in the restaurant when we visited, but the servers patiently answered questions, was very kind, and kept a rapt attention to our waters. I believe the owner herself came by to ask how the food was and we felt taken care of in our experience. This isn't a restaurant with family vibes though, it's the type of service where the owners/staff are professional and attentive as opposed to very friendly and talkative. Overall, the staff were very kind and read the vibe of me and my SO well, giving as ample space while still being attentive to our needs. Food was . I'm Taiwanese, and the beef roll, noodle soup, and popcorn chicken genuinely reminded me of the same foods I had in Taiwan. These were the star of our night. Beef roll was packed with beef and herbs like cilantro and green onion, and pickled veg. Even though we are both sensitive to cilantro, we somehow found we were able to enjoy these dishes?! Only complaint is that it was a bit dry and needs more sauce. This was a major surprise as usually cilantro is unbearable, but by some magic we loved these dishes with cilantro! The beef noodle soup has the authentic heat and warmth of Taiwanese beef noodles, and they use the right cut of beef for it. My only complaint was the noodles, which are more ramen -type noodles as opposed to the flatter chewy types you'd find around Taiwan. Overall though this is a mild complaint, and the portions of noodle and beef were excellent. Popcorn chicken was fragrant, crunchy, and juicy. We also ordered XLB which was okay, and gua bao which was lowest on our list. Typically gua bao comes with more filling that add a lot of flavor/texture, but these are just the steamed bun with a braised beef slice between them, so it was kind of basic / one note. $-wise, we paid 80$ (with tip) for our 5 or so dishes, and we had an excellent time. The portions were more than enough, and I felt like the meat portions were reasonable for the price. The cucumber salad was what you can expect, good and refreshing. The scallion pancake beef rolls were my favorite, definitely recommend! Soup dumplings were served with a sauce, my friend found the soup in the dumplings to be on the sweet side but the sauce balanced it out. The server was friendly and attentive even though he technically wasn't officially taking my order. He even knew a lot about the business as a whole as opposed to just this specific location. So you know there's an investment in where he works. Overall, food was great. Dan Dan noodles had a nice spice to it and cucumbers were nice and crisp. Decided to try this place for lunch since it's fairly new and replaced the old french bistro cafe that was here. I was there around lunchtime and there was plenty of seating (granted this is over winter when the local colleges are out), the decorations are well sparse you are here to just eat and it's clearly has a modern restaurant vibe. The waiter was fairly on top of things and even brought out menus for me and my colleague so good on him for being able to read the room and decided using the QR code menu might not work us. Once we ordered the food came out fairly fast, although not in the order I was expecting, I was hoping for the dumplings to come out before our main dishes. I guess that's on us for not requesting that. The food though, was nothing to write home about. The shumai we felt was mainly a rice filling. The broccoli shrimp dish my colleague tried since she was trying to eat healthy was a bit of a disappointment. Steamed broccoli, cooked shrimp, and some white rice. There was a sauce since I could clearly see garlic pieces, but it was sort of bland, we had to resort to asking for oyster sauce or something to be able to dip her food to give it some flavor. I wound up doing the same for the shumai. The tomato noodle dish was ok. Soup base had a nice flavor, the meat bits were tender, and the noodles had a nice snap when I bit into them. They were good, but just good, I can see room for improvement here. I'm willing to stick to my 3 stars and am looking forward to coming back to try some of the other more popular dishes to see if they can make up for this lackluster meal. They offered us water right away, were helpful, and the restaurant itself was clean and comfortable. The food was good, but we'd love to see a few more menu options added in the future, especially some simpler choices like a plain fried rice or more customizable items.
