    Kaimuki Shopping Center.

I grew up coming to this shopping center all the time..... Through the years, a few businesses have come & gone, but the two main anchor stores - Times Super Market & Longs Drugs have remained steadfast at this small shopping center. Not a whole lot of shops at the Kaimuki Shopping Center, but it has what I need, and the convenience factor is great for me. A few shops that are located at this small shopping center - 1. Long's Drugs 2. Times Super Market 3. Cookie Corner 4. Fantastic Sams 5. American Savings Bank 6. Hawaii State Federal Credit Union 7. Hibiscus Korean BBQ 8. J Hara Store (Gun, Ammo, Fishing Store) 9. Fairwood Drive Inn / Hi Yip Restaurant 10. Makoto Sushi & Roll They also have some doctors and dentist offices in the upper floors (sorry, don't know how many offices are there) Parking can be tight sometimes, as both upper & lower level parking can fill up quickly during prime time hours. There are a few free street parking spaces on 5th Ave., (by the back side of Sacred Hearts Academy). Overall, a nice small shopping center serving the Kaimuki/ Kapahulu neighborhood area.

#smalltownliving #hometown I've grown up in Kaimuki and still live in the area. Been around this place all my life and it always will be. Home is where the heart is, as they say, and the Kaimuki Shopping Center is certainly apart of it. I usually don't come here very often, but if you need an alternative place to do your shopping and dining, the Kaimuki shopping center can be the one to check out on any day of the week. It's definitely a place to hang out if you don't have any other place to be. Whether you love to shop or eat, this shopping center has a small, but limited variety of shops and eateries to quench your thirst. While 75% of the businesses here are offices on the 3rd floor, Times supermarket on the 1st, and of course, Longs Drug store on the 2nd, you can always find something you'd like here. Well, most of the time - at least. I've been coming to the Kaimuki Shopping Center ever since I was a little kid back in the 1980's. Very little has changed here, while there's usually very little business turnover here, you can always bet that Times Supermarket and Longs Drug store anchors this shopping center throughout the decades. It's a commercial hub of Kaimuki town for sure, that's been here over over 25 years and still here standing. The overall experience after many visits over my lifetime have been good. From small kid time to an adult, there have been subtle changes over the years, but it's always usually the same. Just got around to writing a review for it on yelp. Kaimuki Shopping Center is a small vestige of the commercial hub that binds Kaimuki town together, along with Market City shopping center just down the road. Kaimuki shopping center is located at 3221 Waialae Avenue in the heart of Kaimuki town, with McDonald's Palolo and the entrance to Palolo Valley nearby. Traffic in and out of this corridor can be frightful at times, but at least it's controlled and not that bad. Just try not to come during peak times and you should be alright. Most merchants here accept credit cards, which is always a good thing. Not sure about the businesses on the third floor, but I'd imagine so. If you are like me, public transit can be the answer to your traffic woes. Bus routes 1, 1L, 9, 14, come through here and stops off right in front of the shopping center on Waialae Avenue. I always lived for the Yummy's Korean Barbeque place back in the 1990's growing up, but I know they have redone the entire thing. Still there under a new name and management, I think. Also a favorite is the Cookie Corner, one of the mainstays at Kaimuki shopping center. Longs Drug Store is a daily favorite for those who need their fix here as well as getting their pharmaceutical needs filled here as well. Usually, for me, Kahala mall is the alternative mall, but Kaimuki shopping center is almost as far from home as Kahala Mall. Only thing about Kaimuki shopping center is that they don't have indoor theaters for feature films. For those of y'all who love to shop, Times Supermarket is your one stop shop here for your grocery needs. Plenty of parking underground though, as well as on the 2nd level too. 4 stars. From my childhood then to nostalgia, and just everyday needs recently, there's something for everyone here at the Kaimuki shopping center. There's American Savings Bank too on the second level. :) Support local! B

Attended their luau here that was booked thru booking.com during my recent Waikīkī stay. While the performers did a great job, I gave it 3 out of 5 stars simply due to the rain that had shortened much of the hula dancing, and I expected more for the price. Disappointed since if they know it frequently rains in Hawaii, they should've been more prepared & already had the canopies set up over our tables. Several dining options at this mall made me smile! I wish I had a much longer vacation to explore more of the eateries here, lol. The food court was decent, offering everything from Hawaiian malasadas at Penny's Waikiki Malasadas to popular spots like L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, Raising Cane's, Panda Express, and more.

L & L Hawaiian Barbecue is a tried and true place for plate lunches and it did not disappoint. The food was fresh and hot - and as a former resident of Oahu, mac salad and rice is a treat. For a burger rush, we ate the Mahaloha burger - certified Angus beef and again, it was hot and delicious. Their fries were great as well. My brother-in-law asked about a malasadas and told him that it is more or less a doughnut but was brought to Hawaii by the Portuguese who came to work the fields back a hundred or so years ago. It's sold all over the islands now. When I lived here in the '70's, a food truck parked itself in a parking lot and people lined up to buy it. When they ran out, that was it until the next time and it was not everyday. Penny's malasadas was good and delicious. It was hot and sooo ono, as we say it in the islands! There's a price to pay for the delicious food though - and it's not cheap! So go try, yeah!

A major renovation in 2016 transformed the IMP into a contemporary shopping and dining destination while still respecitng its Hawaiian heritage. The banyan tree in the shopping center is really impressive. A banyan can reach a height up to 100 feet and spreads laterally indefinitely. Aerial roots that develop from its branches descend and take root in the soil to become new trunks. It's really a highlight of this mall to walk around this enormous tree. There are a huge number of well known stores here with something for everyone. We enjoyed the shopping but did not stay to eat here although there are a lot of options.

High end stores, high end restaurants and other great things like art exhibits. Now that I live in California, I do visit Oahu every two years. At the time when we came here in 2019, we went to a photography exhibit by National Geographic. Now this is something I enjoy. I think tourists could enjoy it too and bring in the modernized look for Waikiki. I have been on the fence about the traditional vendors over these overpriced high end stores. I look at it in a business perspective. Hawaii drives its economy through tourism. We are in the United States of America and you got major cities like New York, Miami, Los Angeles and such. It's competing for more tourists to come to Hawaii. I hate to say this but Hawaii versus Miami? You got people with money that spend at high end stores. People now look at Waikiki like you're shopping on Rodeo Drive. Well if this is what attracts tourists - so be it to help the economy. It is a shame that it has to be this way to survive in this economy. The workers in Waikiki have pride in their job and make an honest living in an expensive state. I do miss the old International Marketplace. It was nice seeing vendors sell things.

There was this poor lady in front of me that tied up her dog on the poles (but in eye distance). It's so hot out right now and the risk of overheating or even kidnapped is a possibility. I could never do that and leave my dog tied up even if its 10 steps away because it could just take seconds for my sweet simba to be stolen. However, they don't seem to mind if you carry them or have them contained in something like a bag tho, but i think thats a little unfair for people who have larger dogs and can't do this. I also did not realize that the park across with the bridge also doesnt allow dogs on the grass, but it seemed like it just recently happened when the newer park re-opened. I think maybe a good solution is to add more trash cans around and maybe doggy bags like other communities that allow pets instead of hiring security to enforce pet owners to stay off the grass. Please don't punish the pet owners that are responsible but come up with a solution that there can be at least a happy medium for everyone.
