    Bibimbap, soybean soup; tofu stew
    Austin K.

Service was really nice and the music is low, which is great because I can actually talk to people. I was desperate for Korean food so I came here - normally I wait until I'm in Flushing or Fort Lee. Honestly, it's a 3 and I could give it another star because it's in Astoria. I will say I would order the bibimbap again, lots of veggies although the spicy pork was cold. The soybean soup was salty and devoid of the deep flavor, but the tofu stew was passable. Cash will allow you to bypass tax.

Go for the lunch special! It's so nice to have bubbling hot soup this time of year. I actually took home leftovers of my bulgogi and japchae rice bowl since I got full quickly.

coming here filled me with regret as ive been frequenting this area for the past 3 years and been missing out on this place that whole time. its easy to miss walking down the street and when i stopped by it was empty so expectations were low, but every part of my experience here was comforting and made me feel appreciated. the service was amazing and I was offered refills on banchan twice which i took up. i got the army stew and they give you the ramen on the side so it wont overcook if thats not your preference. dont expect a fancy meal here but everything tasted like a comforting home cooked meal.

5/5 kimchi jeon ($17) : Never had it w/ cheese on top. So good! 3/5 Tofu stew ($18) : Asked for very mild, but still way too spicy. Good otherwise. Wuda liked more variety of seafood tho like mussels & clams. 3/5 Grilled mackerel ($18)- decent Banchan: 4/5 Kimchi - crispy, not too fermented 5/5 radish- mild, very good 3/5 potato- good 3/5 bean sprouts- standard 1/5 broccoli- so bland

Small and quaint place, staff is so attentive. They moved us so we wouldn't feel the draft from the door and food is very affordable. It is definitely worth a try

Ate here today for lunch and dinner by myself on a frigid and icy Tuesday afternoon after work as a substitute paraprofessional at P.S. 234 Q. I had brought both the kimchi seafood pancake and grilled short ribs dish that it had tasted really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive and pleasant. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time.

(4.5/5) Second time back at KAL and I am not disappointed!! The interior was as cozy as last time I came and the banchan was just as delicious too (perfect amounts of salty, sour, and spicy). This time I got the Samgyetang which is a chicken broth served with a whole small bird stuffed with jujube dates, ginseng, rice, and other hearty ingredients served in a hot stone bowl. My only qualm was that the chicken tasted a little bit dry. It was the perfect meal for a winter day and I also had leftovers to take home. The service was great too -- they let me go out to an ATM to get cash and then return! Highly recommend KAL if you're in Astoria.

Hmm 3.5? Well, 5/5 for the staff that was working that day but 3/5 for the food. My friend and I came here on a Thursday night for dinner. We were greeted by a very friendly staff and seated right away. I ordered a bulgogi omu rice and my friend ordered army stew. We were both underwhelmed by the food, which we were very surprised about because of all the raving reviews, also we traveled all the way from Brooklyn just for this. We both thought that the dishes we had were not flavorful, very bland. But because of all the good reviews, I am wondering if it's just an off day (different cook?), who knows. The staff member that was working that night though, he's super friendly and attentive, and we love his big smile. He paid attention to every customer, although it's a small place, it's actually not easy to do. He always appeared when we needed something and we did not have to wait around or look for him. Once customers leave he immediately sprays and wipes down the tables.

Is banchan included when ordering an entree for delivery or takeout?

Any plans to add Korean cold noodles to the menu?

They have glass noodles but not as a side dish, it's only featured in some dishes. However they made me a special dish where they infused the glass noodles into my teriyaki chicken for $3 more dollars and it was GREAT 😊 upon request though.

    Any vegetarian options?

Yes, We have some vegetarian options.

    Do they have outdoor seating?

    Yes!

Do you have gluten free options on your menu?

We have only grilled salmon and grilled mackerel

You get your choice of pho: vegan, beef, or chicken and half a sandwich of your choice. We both got the round steak pho and one traditional banh mi and one chicken banh mi. Honestly, having a half sandwich and a small bowl of pho really hit the spot and was surprisingly filling. Traditional Banh Mi: (4/5) sandwich was tasty and had the cold cuts with the pickled carrots. If they toasted the bread then I think it would make it even better. Chicken Banh Mi: (3/5) chicken had a nice lemongrass flavor but overall was just okay. The traditional one was much better. Round Steak Pho: (4/5) the broth was nice and lighter than my usual beef pho but still tasty. I like my pho with a wedge of lime, fresh basil and bean sprouts. So if they forget to give it to you, just ask for it. Although the restaurant may seem narrow but it's long and has plenty of tables in the back. The music is a little loud and club like but otherwise, I had a great experience here. So if you're in Astoria, I would highly suggest this place for their great lunch deal. Can't be beat!

For example, the chicaroon appetizer is a regular sized link that you would get in a typical Colombian bandeja paisa or the size you would get at a colombian bakery (the one that comes with a boiled potato). It came with two mini fried arepa cakes. Overall this item was fatty and the skin was not as crispy as expected. The tostoncitos with steak was 3 pieces for $20. This appetizer tasted great. Guacamole was smooth, and the steak pieces were well seasoned and cooked. Service was mediocre. The waitress came to take our order/provide water but that was pretty much it so 18% mandatory gratuity is a disappointment as there was nothing that warranted that during our visit. It looks like a potential spot for a date/pre-game night as they serve alcohol including mixed drinks for $16 and bottle service type drinks for table (ie: patron reposado for $200, aquardiente azul $200, and buchanans $200, etc). They do have a lunch menu Monday to Friday from 12-330pm that comes with 3 sides and an entree for $15. It seems promising, but I'm not sure I will be back. They also have Happy hour specials everyday, but we were not told of any when we sat down. Overall, I will probably not come back again. The portions/prices and service weren't amazing/spectacular enough to justify the mandatory tip %.

I noticed some of the items on the display were frozen (red head shrimp) was one of the items. While they do not weight the seafood in front of you. The list the prices up front, so that was somewhat awkward process?? I ask for octopus, scallops, smelts, and a red snapper . The octopus was the most expensive item, it was marked $45 a pound.. We were then sent to 2nd floor for seating. Since we needed a table for 2, we got a very small table near the stairs. The table was so small, we knew right away that it be an issue given the amount of food we ordered. Our waitress came by and we added grilled eggplant, lemon potatoes and the beat salad. The brought us a small basket of pita like bread, hot, fluffy and delicious. So we had all the appetizers but the food took 30 mins and from the looks, it dis not seemed busy. In my opinion, the side dishes should be brought out with main courses but i guess thats NOT what they do here. I recalled asking at the counter for light seasoning on the red snapper. When the fish came to the table, it had some type of breadcrumbs and oil or butter. Which in my opinion is not bad but i appreciate the unique texture and flavor red snapper has all on its own. The octopus was good but i never had it sliced looking like bacon strips. Tasty but different, scallops had a little paprika, cooled perfectly. The smelts were fried just perfectly, like good french fries. I assume this restaurant is a mix of middle-Mediterranean cooking style. Food was tasty, style of service was definitely different. I will come back and try the lunch specials during the week. As a side note, accessing the restrooms was very confusing, they have 2 restrooms, there was a line to get into the restrooms. Very clean bathrooms for sure.
