Great place to get dinner with a friend and it wasn't packed on a weeknight. The chef was also serving us and he was so friendly and welcoming. The mango salad was good - very fresh, a good balance of fish-based sauce, and a huge portion. I also tried my friend's duck curry, which had a crispy skin and was a well balanced curry. The drinks here are fun too. I had the pandan cream cocktail and it was incredibly flavorful and I could tell they used real pandan. Service was a bit slow though. I was waiting for the bar next-door to open because I forgot my cell phone there. I stumbled into Kalabaw by accident.. I was just window shopping on what type of Thai food they had. I walked in and decided to give them a shot. Try something easy ..I got the wonton soup with egg noodles.. the broth was umami and garlicky, and warmed up my soul. The wontons were nice and tender, flavored with shrimp and pork. It was like a warm hug. Hit the spot! Second, I ordered the crispy spicy fish. It was an extraordinary presentation even my Chef friend was delighted to see the culinary expertise of the Chef. And it was also very reasonably priced. The service was excellent. We walked over from Pike Place Market and were warmly greeted and seated by Chef Supanot, who immediately made us feel welcome. He offered great menu suggestions and shared the story behind the restaurant--his brother designed the space, and he built it with the help of friends, which made the experience feel even more special. The menu is Thai-forward with a few standout dishes from other Asian cuisines mixed in thoughtfully. The décor is gorgeous--an elevated, glamorous tribute to the water buffalo that feels bold yet refined. We ordered the Miang Kham, Crying Tiger, and Mango Salad. I always order Miang Kham when I see it since it's such a rare find, and this one was excellent. The Crying Tiger was tasty but came out more well done than the medium-rare we ordered. That said, we still finished it because the dipping sauce was fantastic and the purple-and-white sticky rice was delicious. Sufficient for the 5 of us. The roasted duck curry was a big hit in our table. We also cleaned up the plate of Crying tiger, angus ribeye. The soft shell crab was crunchy. Hidden gem alert! Caught the last 10 minutes of happy hour on Monday just enough time to grab a Bellini, a glass of white wine, and a few quick bites. We started with the ginger truffle fries, lumpia rolls, and papaya salad. Wow! A Thai restaurant designed for discriminating clientele willing to spend for good experience. It was not traditionally decorated. Instead, there is a full bar, all the American cocktails on the menu, a modernistic prominent logo, and western-style seatings. We tried the lunch menu a traditional pad thai and a "banh canh soup". They were excellently made. Pad Thai was perfectly al dente, not usual for Thai restaurant, perfectly flavored even with tofu as the protein choice. Banh Canh soup has udon-like thick noodles, generous portion of shrimp, and rich and complex broth. Lunch specials came with Thai Ice Tea which was made as a cocktail and topped with whipped cream. We ordered a soup called tom saap gai- it was a sour chicken soup that was soothing. Another favorite dish was the Kalabaw noodles - it had a lot of flavor and umami from the mushrooms. A must try in Seattle! "Asian fusion" does not do this place justice. Much more adventurous than your average asian fusion. We walked in and the restaurant was empty, which was a bit foreboding, but everything was amazing! The restaurant is huge with tvs on the walls and lighting on the baseboards. The service was great. The menu was very thorough with southeast Asian fare. All the items on the menu have pictures and small icons of flags for the country the dishes originate from, which was a cool detail! We had lettuce cups, gyoza, turmeric curry and sautéed green beans. Everything was super flavorful and divine. We loved the turmeric curry, which was a bit spicy but really different and so delicious. I wish we had stayed for desert! We wanted to meet the chef but he wasn't there. What an awesome restaurant, complete with great service, delicious (but expensive) food and cool ambience! I came here under the recommendation of a friend in my group after attending a day rave over at the Space Needle. This was on a Saturday night around 10:30pm, and we got seated at the bar very quickly as there weren't many people eating inside. The first thing I noticed was that the inside is fancy; I felt like I was fine dining the whole time. They also had their happy hour menu until close, which gave me more options on what to choose from. My friend highly recommended their pad thai, and my other friends in the group got that, though I got a taste of it and he wasn't kidding; it's so flavorful and the noodles just feel great in your mouth! Instead I got their kanom-jean-nam-prik, which is a noodle dish that comes with a mung bean curry sauce with a nice peanut taste, along with vermicelli noodles of two different colors and some veggies (string beans, cabbage and sauerkraut). I did notice that the menu says there's a hard-boiled egg as part of the dish, and I did not see any when I got my dish. Even so, this dish was also really good in its own way! I chose to add chicken as protein for this dish, and that made it all the more tasty; everything combined was really flavorful, and I didn't even taste the sauerkraut, which I normally don't like. The only thing I'd say is that the portion was pretty small, and I felt like it didn't justify the $25 price tag. Pad thai was $18 per plate and I also felt the portions of that plate weren't too big either. For dessert, I got their halo halo, which came in a wine cup and was the perfect sweet treat. Eating this, I mostly noticed the ube bits and peanuts after the vanilla ice cream, and the tapioca pearls were my favorite part. Again, it was pretty small, and this was $12 before tax. Presentation and taste are both on point though. Service here is top-notch; my servers were happy to answer some of my questions and also grab utensils, napkins and water, and they really lightened up the mood for me and my group by striking conversations with us. Looking past the hefty prices and my missing hard-boiled egg, this is a really great place! My friends and I have one more place to consider for dinner whenever we hit up the Belltown area. A southeastern Asian restaurant to try with many options! I had multiple dishes and my most favorite with their clam dish ($24). The clams were mixed with this savory and tasty sauce that went wonderfully with rice. There was a decent amount of clams as well. The unfortunate part was that it didn't come with a side of rice, so it was another $3 for it. My next favorite were the truffle fries ($10 during happy hour). The fries were pretty crispy and fresh. really liked the sauce that it came with. The wings were good. I liked how crispy and tender it was and it came with 6 pieces for $12 during happy hour. Finally, I had their Pad Kee Mao ($19) which was my least favorite. As you can see in the picture, portioning wasn't great. On top of that, I ordered it with chicken and there was little chicken in the dish. The noodles tasted good and the chicken had decent flavoring. The biggest problem was the portioning of this dish. I really liked the ambiance of the restaurant. It definitely gave a fancy atmosphere with how things are decorated, the space, and the lightning. A date night would be nice here. It's pretty organized and there are plenty of seating. The service was good. The server was nice and helpful and answered any questions we had. The service can be a bit slow. One of the dishes took some time to make, and I think it was 10 mins later after all the other food got delivered to the table. I've been waiting for a multi cuisine restaurant that can do justice to Singaporean, Malaysian, Burmese, Thai and Indonesian cuisines to open up and this one came as close to perfect as one can expect. We ordered the lumpiang rolls (spring rolls from the Philippines); papaya salad (green papaya with green beans, tomatoes, carrots, peanuts and salad - from Thailand); larb isarn salad (with ground chicken - from Laos); Kalabaw curry bowl with beef and rice - a Malaysian curry); soft shell crab with dried curry - from Thailand. On a heat level of 1 to 5 we chose 3 and it was great, flavorful but not overwhelming. A very nice level that was used well in the dishes. (Next time I go --- and there will be a next time --- I'll order a 4 level.) The dishes were delicious and authentic in taste. Very cute restaurant with a robust, eclectic menu! The lights are dim, and the atmosphere is giving fine dining without fine dining prices. The staff were all kind and accommodating, and I thought it was cool that the head chef/ owner was the person at the front seating folks. That lets me know they care about the business and service! I didn't love the sauces, though. One was a plum sauce, the other a sweet green sauce, both a little underwhelming and too sweet. However, they have a great spice rack with a jalapeno vinegar sauce, and a chili fish sauce- I added those to the pork sauces, and that brightened them up a ton! Definitely ask for the spice rack. For drinks, I had the mule, sub tequila, which was very good! And my friend got the reclining Buddha, which she said was good as well. I definitely recommend this restaurant for a date night or intimate dinner with friends. They have such an extensive menu, plus a mid day and late HH through Saturday, and all day Sunday. One of the newer restaurants in Belltown, this one stands out as a hot and new restaurant in my books. I went here around 10:30pm for late night, which is good since they have happy hour daily from 10pm to close, on top of 4-6pm (except Sunday which is all day). There is currently a promotion in June for pride, so we opted to get charged regular pricing of items from the HH menu, since the promotion is buy 2 appetizers OR 1 entree and get a free drink (including cocktails on that list, which ranges $16-18), and happy hour is only a few dollars off the regular price. So effectively, you just "pay" $5-6 for a cocktail which is a good price. For cocktails, we got: - The ABG - apple, blueberry, gin. Sweet and intoxicating just like the real deal. - Singapore Sling - tropical vibes from the pineapple, fairly strong - Chiang Mai Shuffle - blue drink, very herby For food, we got: - Kalabaw Wings - fried wings garnished with lemongrass, my favorite herb, served with coconut galangal sauce. I love that this place serves galangal since it is not that widely found around here. - Chives Cake - love the chewiness to this dish, along with the chili sweet ginger soy sauce - Ginger Truffle Fries - nothing special but still delicious, good to fill up a meal - Papaya Salad - also nothing out of the ordinary but prepared freshly and still very delicious - Chicken Kalabaw Noodles - lots of mushrooms with chicken in the noodles, and the noodles are cooked fairly al dente and soaks up the soy sauce. Also, the host was willing to accommodate us in the dining room table adjacent to the bar, since they initially said to sit at the bar since dining room is closed at that hour, but the bar was full. Okay, but no dishes were mindblowing, and several were underwhelming. The space is bright and sterile, and the service was very slow and curt. The Phnom Penh octopus was overcooked and way smaller and less appealing than the menu photo. The Tom Yom soup was non-traditional, in that it was over spiced. The Kalabaw noodles were good, nothing exceptional, but tasty and the chicken on the noodles was tender and well-prepared. I asked for a 3 spice level, but the dish came out not spicy at all. The chicken lettuce wraps were good. We were most impressed with the pad Thai -- again, a slightly untraditional flavour, sweeter than I'm used to, but a good balance of the umami flavour and the sweetness. The crab fried rice was good. It took over and hour to get our food, and several appetizers came out later than the mains. I stumbled upon this place as my first choice "sushi" wasn't open. I had just arrived from a late flight at SeaTac and I was heading up to Everett. This place is open till midnight. Asian food is always one of my choices. The ambiance very good, spacious with sophisticated look, the menu reminded me of Cheesecake Factory the Thai cheesecake factory'! I ordered the lettuce wrap as an appetizer and a pad Thai with shrimp. The medium spice was on point , a little to the spice side for me. But I asked for it. The food was tasty. Large portions. Attended this new restaurant in Belltown for their grand opening. We enjoyed happy hour items along with a couple of things from the main menu. Of all the items we ordered, the standouts for me were the turmeric golden cauliflower and the Hung Lae Curry with flavorful, fork tender pork belly, which comes with either jasmine rice or roti. We opted for the roti since we were also ordering the crab fried rice. Because I'm developing my spice level, we ordered everything 3 stars. Either I'm tolerating more heat or it didn't taste 3 star spicy to me. We topped off our meal with the mango sticky rice. We were given cute and tiny spoons to enjoy our dessert, but it was not conducive to eating the mango pieces nor did it prevent us from finishing our dessert. Must order the Kalabaw wings!! They were amazing, also ordered the Pad See Ew and chicken fried rice. The fried rice was underwhelming but the Pad See was phenomenal. I would definitely come back here, it was pretty empty on a Sunday evening which meant our food came out super fast and super hot.
