You simply can't beat Kalaveras for Taco Tuesday. I've gone there for many consecutive weeks after golfing and the carnitas tacos are simply amazing--hot, fresh tortillas, delicious pork and the taco bar provides all the fixings. Excellent chips and their homemade salsa are complimentary. The people who work there are personable and professional, especially the manager CAESAR and my regular waitress JOVANA. I've been to Kalaveras a handful of times since they first opened in Northridge. My first visit was for lunch shortly after opening, and more recently I've been meeting friends there for happy hour. It's a fairly large restaurant with a fun atmosphere, making it a great place to gather with friends and enjoy some food and drinks. The food has been good, and the spacious layout makes it easy for groups to relax and socialize without feeling crowded. It's become one of our go-to spots when we want a casual place to catch up. The service could use a little work. When we go for Happy Hour, we always seem to have to flag our waiter down or ask another if they can get them. I guess that they think once we have ordered food that we won't be ordering more drinks? The one area that could use some attention is the women's restroom. During my last three visits, the toilet seat in one of the stalls has been loose and shifts around when you sit down. On my most recent visit, I also noticed that the stall walls were quite dirty. These are relatively small maintenance issues, but addressing them would definitely improve the overall guest experience. Overall, Kalaveras is a fun spot with good food, a lively atmosphere, and plenty of space for groups. I'll continue meeting friends here and hope to see a little more attention given to restroom maintenance in the future. read more

I have been to several other locations and this one is "hands down" the worst one I ever stepped into! And what I can't quite figure out is why it's so packed and why people keep coming here... I ordered their Hibiscus margarita which I love at the other locations ...but here it tasted like Koolaid with a splash of tequila. My Queso birria had thick pieces of shredded beef that were tough and fatty...not good. Inside is quite dark with bad acoustics and the temp is a little chilly... They had mentioned to me when I called that they only have two servers and just sat two big parties and I was okay with that we didn't Mind waiting because it's usually a good vibe and good food, but we had got there and they sat us immediately the part that was disappointing and made us get up and walk out was that we were never spoken to no waiter came up to our table to tell us it would be a couple minutes, while the servers where chatting in the front we waited about 15 minutes with no water no chips no communication before we decided to leave. read more

I really wanted to like this place... Have been here a few times and the result is always the same. The check ain't ever right. I order tequila soda with a splash of lime and get an up charge for the lime juice... Add this to the fact thag my drinks either weren't delivered or weren't made correctly at certain points. Great crowd vibes and staff are friendly but the bill being incorrect and the up-charges and poor delivery of ordered items is tragic. Would like to recommend this spot but can't. Kalaveras has one of my favorite happy hours in Los Angeles, and this place continued the trend for me when I came in last Friday. The energy was electric, as there was a Mexico soccer game on for the World Cup. We ordered some asada fries and birria tacos, and both were super tasty. The asada fries in particular were a generous portion and you felt like you got your money's worth (a challenge in this economy). The vibe inside is very chill and the lights are down low. I loved the trees inside and always appreciate the color the painted skulls add to the space. A couple small things...first, we didn't get the food for a long while after we ordered. Probably around 35 minutes, and happy hour finished in the in-between, so it was too late to add to our order if we had wanted to. Second, I noticed that sometimes the silverware is not 100% clean (this has happened to me at 2 locations), so i make sure to check that I'm not getting anything dirty and mention it to the servers. They always promptly replace it, but it'd be nice if that was not happening in general. Anyway...love the deals here, the flavors are on point, and the atmosphere is fun. the vibes in here were pretty fun. it was taco tuesday so there was live music playing. we came kinda late but we were sat pretty quickly, service was very fast throughout the night so props from me. we got the guac as our appetizer, it was kinda cold tbh, but still good. i got the birria tacos and they were VERY good. served with a little bowl of the broth so you can dip them in. i devoured that thing 10/10. for the drinks, we of course tried the soft serve margs. i felt like the menu was a little deceiving because the only margs that came in soft serve were pineapple and watermelon. the pineapple one was super good, definitely strong. my only problem was that they melted rather fast and you just have to kinda start slurping it bc they don't come with a straw read more

I don't really know where to begin.... Me and my girls came here on a Friday for happy hour. We were first sat somewhere kinda cold, so we moved. We got a server, her name was Karen...she def lived up to the name. She had an attitude, was kinda rude, and made the vibes no longer fun. My friends got the taquitos and the quesa birria....they said it lacked flavor and wasn't that good. Unfortunately, we were hoping it was an amazing time but turned into a HUGE let down. Kalaveras is a Mexican restaurant chain with a significant footprint in California. My first visit was to its outpost in Simi Valley and I was impressed with the different accent on food, music, decor and overall ambiance. The menu is eclectic with both Mexican and Latin influences and there is a good variety of dishes. Therefore, by accident I learned that it has been only 3 months and they are herein Northridge, in the vibrant culinary environment of the SFV. I came here for a late lunch, and chose the Huevos Rancheros. Having the crema and cheese on the side is good for me. The rancheros sauce was not too overwhelming, even though it almost camouflaged the taste of my over easy eggs. The dish is supposed to come with Mexican potatoes, but they were just fried small wedges. The corn tortillas were disappointing (from a bag) and served dry and rubbery. I could not eat them. Why not make them fresh? The complimentary chips and salsas were good. I also asked for the habanero, which was excellent. It was a rainy day and cold, but they refused to heat up the place. Service was mixed, a hit or miss. They also have a Sunday Buffet (9 am - 2 pm), that is totally disorganized. For one they are understaffed and therefore cannot keep up. Second, selections were running empty and the servers were ignoring, until told. Third, the lighting by the food was bad, what is in that tray? Fourth, there were absolutely no labels for the food. What is in that taquito or that enchilada? The mini huevos rancheros were stacked with so much cheese that I thought it was a tostada, until I saw an egg peek out of one. A lot of the dishes were drying out. Including the liquid chocolate tower. The taco station was good. Mariscos, not bad. They need to update their signs. Be more innovative. It is nice to finally have a Sunday Mexican buffet in town. But here at Kalaveras, they still have a lot of work to do. read more

Came here an hour before closing. My friend any I only ordered appetizers and drinks, we also got waters. The reason for the stars being deducted was for the service. When we came in, no one was on the front. The waitress did not come to check on us, or refill our waters. When we asked for that, we got a bit of an attitude. Vibes are great the atmosphere here gives like turn up vibes lol, which we enjoy. I ordered the pepino con chile margarita which I liked a lot, wasn't too strong so I was able to enjoy it. Service was great waiter checked on me many time during my visit. The food was out quick! I appreciated the flavors and everything about the food and ingredients were fresh and had a great quality! The prices are reasonable and you will leave satisfied. They have a bar area and cocktails are between $14-$15! Only downside a large section of fat was inside my carnitas taco which was a bit underwhelming but the flavors and tenderness of the pork to die for! Kalveras is now in the valley. It's located in Guitar Center Plaza, where the old LA Buffet once occupied and they just recently opened last week. I've been too other Kalveras locations, glad they finally opened one in Northridge which is close to home. We came on Friday night and it was super busy; the average wait time was 30-40 minutes. When we finally got seated, I was surprised to see a lot of open tables available. My guess is that they're probably short on staff. They kept most of the floor plans from previous occupants. However, there's now a huge bar with TVs and private section in back for large parties. Night club vibe is present like all Kalveras locations - blue neon lights, colorful décor and day of the dead wall art. We started off with a couple of Margaritas, La Kalavera and Guavarita. Both were tasty, but not strong and had too much ice. Enjoyed their complimentary chips and salsa. For appetizers (platitos), chicken taquitos and queso fundido were delicious. Good size appetizers and so filling, especially queso fundido. The melted cheese dish was thick and gooey. It comes with tortillas making it a meal in itself. We were already starting to get full...lol! We ordered quesabirria tacos, which is 3 crispy cheese tacos filled with barbacoa meat and comes with consume chili beef broth for dipping slices of avocado and few accoutrements (cilantro, onions and green chile). Tacos were spot on delicious. Consume had good flavor and kick. Though it doesn't come with any rice or beans, 3 tacos is more than enough. We were stuffed and satisfied. Our only complaint is the slow service. It took forever to get refills on our chips and someone to take our order. Never given any water or small plates for our appetizers. Saw a few female waitresses chit chatting/talking for long time with their friends, who were also customers. Not a good first impression. So 3.5 Stars. Though Kalveras was good, I've been to better locations. Since it's new, needs time to iron out kinks and improve its service. Will come back, but not anytime soon. read more

Dined here on a Saturday afternoon, no crowd, no wait was seated right away. Everyone was friendly and pleasant. I loved the lighting, decor and overall ambiance. The bar area is cute and yes they have TV's. The drinks were good... I was hoping they had the "Tama-lindo" (Tamarindo margarita) like they do at the Marina Del Rey location ...but they didn't so I opted for a classic margarita. The food was decent. I ordered the carne asada. It comes with rice, beans, guac and tortillas. They forgot to bring out my flour tortillas (in which I like to eat with the carne asada). I had to wait for them to turn on the tortilla warmer before they can prepare the tortillas and bring them out. We also ordered tacos (salmon, pollo and carne asada). Our server was Nate. He was fantastic and checked on our table often. He had such a friendly and positive attitude and was very attentive. Not my thing, but it may be your's. Basic Mexican restaurant fare is just what you'd expect, nothing more, but also nothing less. It's the enormous room that bothered me. It feels like I'm waiting at a bus station, in a large, but oddly dimly lit space. Although the place had several customers, I felt very alone. Intimate, it's not. Perhaps it's used for concerts or dancing. The servers need to be educated in how to wait tables. They consist mostly of pretty young, personable but clueless women. Even basic menu questions were confusing to mine, but she was a sweetheart, she just need to learn more about her job. The bar is very attractive and well-stocked. Nonetheless, my order of a Tanqueray martini, up with a twist, was met with a blank stare. She had never heard of a martini!? That's what she said. She sent over another gal, who also had no idea. Finally the manager came over and took my order. By this time, I was feeling embarrassed and worried I was being thought of as a difficult customer. This was hardly the end of the world ( and let's face it, the epitome of first-world problems ), but it didn't give me a feeling of confidence about the fare at this place. BTW, the martini when it finally arrived, was excellent. Well, I'm not their demographic. This is a place that I'm sure gets much livelier later in the evening ( I was there at 5:30 ). The crowd is mostly 20-something Latinos who only drink margaritas and beer. The bar has a wide variety of both, with several tequilas at all price points. I liked their salsa, but I'll stick to small Mexican places that specialize in interesting takes on various local cuisines--Tex-Mex, Vera Cruz, et al. read more

Visited Kalaveras in Northridge on May 25, 2026, and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. We were seated and then completely ignored for over 10 minutes. No server came to greet us, take our drink orders, or even acknowledge us. What made it worse was that the staff and manager walked by multiple times without checking on us. After waiting with no service at all, we decided to leave. Very poor customer service and definitely not the experience we expected. Adding an important note: Before exiting the restaurant, I asked to speak to the manager to report the situation at the front. He said he was the manager. I explained the situation, and all he said was, "I'm sorry to hear that." He never offered to fix the situation and just let us walk out. So unprofessional. read more

I stopped by for a quick solo meal and was pleasantly surprised! The place is super cute inside with fun lighting, lots of seating and a great vibe. Katie was my server and she was so attentive and friendly. My food came out fast, which I appreciated. I grabbed the Happy Hour queso birria tacos and buffalo wings. The birria was seasoned perfectly and crispy on the outside. The wings weren't the typical spicy buffalo flavor, but still tasty and cooked well. First time here. Walked in on a Tuesday night (Taco Tuesday) and the vibe was electric! Live band playing a combination of music from artists such as Selena, Carol G, Carlos Santana, even Gloria Gaynor! The hostess, Lex was very kind and explained it may be a bit of a wait but it was well worth it. Her front desk appeal showed she loves her job and was very friendly. I spoke in depth with my server, Karen about the food. Although Kalaveras is "Americanized," the food quality is excellent! She and I know our way around Mexican food and our conversation about the regions of Mexico and food was amazing. My choice was the Wet Burrito with Carne Asada. What attracted to me was it has peruvian beans. I'd never had them. When it arrived to my table, it was huge! It tasted great too! The place is super cute and trendy and conveniently located near the mall. We came for happy hour and the service at first was fast and friendly. Food is really good BUT it's very over the top. For example first we got nachos but it was overloaded with different cremas and toppings not explained on the menu. Pickled onions in my opinion don't really go with nachos. Then we got the carne asada fries and asked specifically what was included- again when it came to the table it had a bunch of cremas, buffalo sauce... made it a little much to enjoy so we has that removed from the bill. Everyone was really nice but (and to no fault of their own) as it got busier and the parties got larger we were forgotten. Perhaps for happy hour and dinner time we can have more staff on hand. Drinks I'm sure are what they are known for, GOOD but again a little over the top. For example most of the happy hour drinks there's so much SPICE/Tajin and little pieces of mango it made the drink overpowering. Long Island Ice teas were fabulous!!!
