Live band playing a combination of music from artists such as Selena, Carol G, Carlos Santana, even Gloria Gaynor! The hostess, Lex was very kind and explained it may be a bit of a wait but it was well worth it. Her front desk appeal showed she loves her job and was very friendly. I spoke in depth with my server, Karen about the food. Although Kalaveras is "Americanized," the food quality is excellent! She and I know our way around Mexican food and our conversation about the regions of Mexico and food was amazing. My choice was the Wet Burrito with Carne Asada. What attracted to me was it has peruvian beans. I'd never had them. When it arrived to my table, it was huge! It tasted great too! The place is super cute and trendy and conveniently located near the mall. We came for happy hour and the service at first was fast and friendly. Food is really good BUT it's very over the top. For example first we got nachos but it was overloaded with different cremas and toppings not explained on the menu. Pickled onions in my opinion don't really go with nachos. Then we got the carne asada fries and asked specifically what was included- again when it came to the table it had a bunch of cremas, buffalo sauce... made it a little much to enjoy so we has that removed from the bill. Everyone was really nice but (and to no fault of their own) as it got busier and the parties got larger we were forgotten. Perhaps for happy hour and dinner time we can have more staff on hand. Drinks I'm sure are what they are known for, GOOD but again a little over the top. For example most of the happy hour drinks there's so much SPICE/Tajin and little pieces of mango it made the drink overpowering. Long Island Ice teas were fabulous!!! The service felt a bit rushed. We were asked to order before we were ready, which threw off the whole experience from the start. The food had its highlights though. I tried the carne asada tacos and they were pretty good. The nachos were definitely the star with perfectly gooey cheese and great seasoning on the chips that made all the difference. This location seems like it's just starting out and still getting a feel for how things should run. I think they can turn it up a notch, and I'm willing to give them another shot to see how they improve. My main confusion is about the value for what you're getting. I can't tell if this is supposed to be a Mexican restaurant focused on great food or more of a place to celebrate birthdays and special occasions. It gives me Tokyo Delves vibes if anyone gets that reference. The identity feels a bit unclear right now. We ordered drinks and they took almost 15 minutes to arrive. Then we ordered our food and that took some time to get to the table, but they did bring chips and salsa to hold us down for a bit haha. The food was good, nothing great though, which was a little disappointing. I really wanted to love this place. We asked for some waters, and then that took so long to get to the table again. Food: thought this was a Mexican cuisine but the menu had a dragon roll sushi--pretty good actually. They also had a Lomo Saltado as a main dish--not good at all. You can't call a lomo saltado without the fries. The dish tasted more like a fajita plate with all the peppers overpowering the taste. Maybe they forgot the add the fries, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Also ordered the tacos governador...it was okay, nothing special...cheese and shrimp in a fried tortilla shell. The sauces were basic. The plate was forgettable. My sister got the tacos and she liked them, they looked like fancier tacos. Drinks: margaritas were good but you'll probably need to ask to add another shot of tequila if you want it stronger. Service: my sister called for reservations for 9 people and when we got there, it was never taken down by whoever answered the phone. There were a lot of people already waiting outside. Luckily the manager was there and put as on top of the list and we were seated within 10-15 minutes. Service provided by our waitress was overall good. However, when we order appetizers, we expect them to come out first. Our nachos came out last and another entree came out about 30 minutes after our first dish came out. Our guacamole NEVER made it out at all. My poor brother was eating his order by himself since we all finished ours by the time he got his. We asked several times what's happening to our other orders and our waitress did check on it and we kept hearing "it's coming right out". The kitchen was definitely short in help. Ambiance: the place is clean. The bathroom was dirty though. Music is loud. Right now since it's brand new, service both in front and back of the house needs fine tuning. We were excited to try this new, massive restaurant that just opened this month. The space is impressive and huge, with a great vibe. We started with a Mai Tai, which was unfortunately too sweet for our liking, lacking the complex balance you'd hope for. For our mains, my husband had the burritos. His feedback was that while it was tasty, the portion and quality didn't justify the high price point. I ordered a trio of tacos (asada, carnitas, chicharron). The major issue was the tortillas, they were incredibly brittle. My order had just been delivered less than a minute ago, and the tortillas were already cracking and breaking apart, making them very difficult to eat. The experience that felt most sales-pitchy was the photo. An employee approached us to take our picture, which we assumed was a complimentary service. After taking the photos, they returned and asked if we wanted to purchase them. The entire exchange was awkward and put us on the spot. We felt misled; had we known it was a sales pitch, we would have politely declined and saved everyone the time and "film." Kalaveras has such great service. They were so sweet to my baby girl. They have an area that the music is very loud but also an area with music that is not too loud. There is a lady that walks around and takes pictures. She prints out the picture with the restaurants theme which is free but there is also picture she prints out with a nicer frame. Those were $15 each. For fun, if fit $60, you get 4 shots and servers coming out with smoke machine and playing music for you. It's very web entertaining.
